Junho pays to save the world as Netflix’s Cashero

Netflix announced that a new team of superheroes is on their way to dramaland, with Junho (King the Land) suiting up for a wacky fantasy-action as our titular character Cashero.

While we all understand that money means power, our ordinary and stalwart Cashero (Junho) – a.k.a. Kang Sang-woong – is ironically cursed blessed with a gift (and alias) that takes the adage very literally. You see, our hero can wield super strength, but the power level depends on the amount of money he holds in his hand – which then disappears after he uses that strength. It would have been quite nice if Sang-woong was a chaebol king. But alas, he’s not actually made of money and his bank account dwindles whenever the world needs saving.

Thankfully, though, Sang-woong has help from Kim Hye-joon (A Shop for Killers) playing his long-time girlfriend Kim Min-sook. Ever the pragmatist, Min-sook is particularly adept when it comes to numbers and instinctively started plugging the math when she’s first told about Sang-woong’s powers. But despite thinking that it’s not the most sensible idea – especially considering all the money it requires – Min-sook wholeheartedly encourages her boyfriend and will always be Cashero’s biggest supporter.

Already, there’s so much to unpack with social commentary in this short set-up. But it gets even better with the second lead roles. Kim Byung-chul’s (Doctor Cha) character is Byun Ho-in (meaning “lawyer” in Korean) who – surprise, surprise – is a super lawyer, but his abilities only activate when he’s drinking alcohol. As the self-designated head of Korea’s Superpower Association, Ho-in enlists Cashero to join the battle against our story’s ~mysterious~ criminal group.

Last but not least, the main foursome also includes Kim Hyang-gi (Secret Playlist) in the role of the fearless Bang Eun-mi. Her nickname is Bbang-mi (as in “bread”), which is similar enough to her name. But of course it’s also because bread is the fuel for our gruff and tough heroine’s fighting power, making her another worthy member of our oddball super team.

On the production side, Netflix’s Cashero has PD Lee Chang-min (Agency, Woohoo Waikiki) at the helm, with the Sisyphus duo, Lee Jae-in and Jeon Chan-ho, co-writing the scripts for this webtoon adaptation.

Lee Junho. Hmmmn. Damn. These 2PM guys are killing me, making me want to watch stuff that don't even sound interesting.

I won't poach. Promise ;-) I am pretty loyal that way.

Minnie...Gupta...Dramabeans! If you think your bias is anything close to a "secret," we need to have a serious vocabulary lesson and also some heart-to-heart talks about boundaries.😂 👩‍🏫😙

Noted Your Honour *Gives a sweeping bow Joseon style*

I promise to keep to my sikret lane. I don't see a veering in my near future so all lanes are safe 😃

Now, carpool is the way to go....for other lanes, of course...😈

"Moving" is the arguably the gold standard of superhero K-Dramas, despite my distate for violence and vulgarity on screen, the story was a tightly written, well acted and and an extremely faithful adaptation of its original source material.

This seems like it will take a more comedic approach ( im also assuming its an original script), Junho has earned my permanent goodwill for Chief Kim alone, i will try anything he stars in. With that being said Netflix is not exactly know for producing quality so ill be cautiously optimistic.

If it turns out to be wonky, I'll just watch for Junho and forget the rest of the story hehehe. He can make it watchable. He is very watchable. Junho come to me! hahaha! He's got my loyalty 100%!

Whenever a webtoon-based drama is announced I look at the first few episodes of the webtoon. I'm not a webtoon fan at all, and I usually don't like what I read, even if I later like the aforementioned drama.

Cashero was the first webtoon ever that I forced myself to stop reading as soon as I could because I was liking it too much! And I didn't want to watch the show with any preconceived impressions.

Of course I don't know at all how loyal this adaptation will be, but I prefer to leave it that way.

I think they are going to flesh out the characters when they make drama adaptions. Based on the initial character description, they have made quite significant changes to the webtoon. 3 characters out of 4 main leads are new. I don't mind if the changes were made for better presentation of drama.

Patiently waiting until 2025 when it will be released.

I would be more excited but the writers on this. Sisyphus was genuinely terrible, top to bottom. However, I miss Junho, I couldn't finish his last drama, so here is hoping I can finish this.

It’s quite bizarre. My initial reaction isn’t very positive. Will decide when there is some teaser, whenever that happens.

But of course I'll give it a try 😇

same. 5 10 is tall and gorgeous. 6 feet and you can't see the face for the sun shining in your eyes as you gaze ever upward. -_-

2

Required fields are marked *

We can't see their feet. 🧐 I always had the impression that Junho's not particularly short, he's just got lots of tall bandmates.

I know (and want to know) nothing about the webtoon, but I hope the show at least manages to poke fun at wealth accumulation and the mass-consumption-based economy more than it celebrates them. I expect lots of ever-so-humorous drinking scenes, though.

You also heard me saying Junho was short. This is totally fascinating.

Also, I'm with you on the hopes for the drama. I'll be watching every second because of the man who appreciates the shape of his own derrière (https://youtu.be/TPB6Od-iFuE?si=O7KMl_S071nTpoMO&t=332), but also remain truly interested in the plot.

😂 Nah, I was trying - ineptly and incompletely - to comment on context and the perception of height. If you'd asked me to say off the top of my head which of them is taller, I'd have picked KBC.

I'm going to assume that's another of your infamous NSFW links. And if this show has as much plot as the average 2PM music video, it will have more than Junho's last drama did.

NONONO. That link is totally safe for work, and you MUST watch. It's an interview and the link takes you to exactly the part where he discusses how proud he is of his, um, assets.

@midnight shared this link with me on her Fan Wall and I must say, I watched the whole darn thing even though I was only sent there to watch the section on "I'm Your Man." The whole "My House" conversation is hilarious.

4

@attiton OK, I know exactly which interview that is without even clicking. 🤣 I'm not on @midnight's level yet, but not for lack of trying.

That interview made me think over and over what a strange world these guys inhabit.

5

@attiton I'm glad you liked it!

The whole interview is hilarious!

Which to me was because one: Junho was so shy and embarrassed the whole way through, and two: because the interviewer Lee Eun-jae is so witty, so fast, and so respectful. I became a fan of hers after watching her 2PM interviews, and went on to watch many other ones of her.

5

@elinor

That interview made me think over and over what a strange world these guys inhabit.

I think about this after every single video of them that I watch. It's a weird world.

I have a strong suspicion that a lot of it real!

I mean if you can't appreciate all the time and energy you put into your ass as a Korean Idol, then I don't know what we get to do in life.

Yes! Especially these past 2 years when they kept mentioning that they have been doing this non-stop for half their lives... It really is eye-opening... Yes, you're right. Love and appreciate your own body as much as you want to, my boy!

“Cashero” is probably what late stage in crisis capitalism and the Earth deserves/needs. It’s a pity that he can’t derive his superpower from real estate. All he would’ve had to do was go around to the super expensive properties in Seoul, touch them and use the inflated values for weaponisation against the super rich class.

@dncingemma Of course you know from King the Land that Junho is the social theorist of actors and idols. It makes sense that his next project after that proletarian drama that celebrated hotel service workers! I look forward to this for its social commentary, and really hope that Junho looks appropriately hot, with a well shaped derriere.

I hope there is good social narrative in Cashero. KTL has social intentions but the script is horribly written that couldn't narrate that aspect properly. So end up apart from being a commercial hit, it just left viewers with impression of good visuals, chemistry between leads and massive shipping..

Plus: Junho (hopefully) out of a suit and NOT playing a guy wrapped super uptight (which is his specialty) and maybe showing some comic acting chops.
Negative: Superhero 2 Byun Ho-in, a boozer. My quotient for kdrama boozers is pretty much filled.
Negative: The JTBC SISYPHUS (2021) (Netflix) connection.
Plus: Netflix.
AsianWiki has CASHERO with an airing date of 2025 so early days. I will keep an eye out for this.
