Premiere Watch: Wonderful World

Time slot: Friday-Saturday
Broadcaster: MBC
Genre: Revenge, thriller, mystery, human
Episode count: 14
Global streamer: Disney+

Reasons to watch: Featuring a bereaved mother (Kim Nam-joo) and an angry young man (Cha Eun-woo) who come together in their despair, Wonderful World has the all makings of a moody, character-driven, and darkish tale where questions about revenge and healing are stirred up by our characters. But how much melo will we get? And how much thriller? Will this be a similar setup to The Glory, or will we have more of an inner journey a la Trolley on our plates? We’ll have to tune in to find out.

TL;DR: Kim Nam-joo and Cha Eun-woo grieve, seek vengeance, and heal together (we hope).

Kim Nam-joo does one drama every six years (My Husband Got a Family (2012); Misty (2018); Wonderful World (2024)), so if you miss this one, you'll have to wait until 2030.

I wonder what they do with themselves in between drama projects

She specifically has been staying home with her kids, and said at the press conference that they're now old enough to not need her so she's back to work lmao. (If you mean what do her fans do... Weep and find temporary replacement queens, I guess, lmao)

I love your comment on "what her fans do" ... applies for all our favorite artists I guess. ♥️👌

She does a fair bit commercials / brand ambassador type work which could be bigger earners than doing dramas.

I missed the part where Kim Kang Woo is also in this drama. Or maybe I didn’t miss it, just that it’s been overlooked by the news that this is Kim Nam Joo’s comeback drama—which, she deserves all the praise, she’s brilliant— and that every corner I turn to that mentions this drama, it’s all about Cha Eun Woo(d)

It is actually about the three of them, Kim Nam Joo, Cha Eun Woo and Kim Kang Woo. Just that well....CEW is a younger and more hyped actor. So, he is getting more attention than the senior or more established counterparts.

It wasn’t me who dubbed him that, but another Beanie. I’m just following suit 😂

I'm so excited for Wonderful World, even though I'm sure I'll be crying buckets every episode. Kim Namjoo is obviously a LEGEND, but I'm really excited to see her dynamic with not only Cha Eunwoo (whose situation onscreen may feel like it's cutting close to the chest for him offscreen), but also Kim Kangwoo and Im Semi (who was one of the best parts of True Beauty and SEVERELY underutilized in The Worst of Evil).

Oh, my gosh, the Worst of Evil... more like, the wort waste of an actress talent!I hope to see her shine in this role :)

Do you mean because of Moonbin’s tragic death and the grief for him or does CEW have a tragic backstory?

Yes, I am referring to Bin. This was the first role Eunwoo took after Bin's passing, and he rejected several other promising dramas at that time for it (including the Chicken Nugget one coming to Netflix soon), so I imagine he felt it resonated strongly.

I somehow haven't managed to see Kim Nam-joo's works in my many years of drama-watching, so my eyes are on this despite it not being my usual type of thing.

Try Misty - her character may well be among the strongest female character ever written. She plays it brilliantly.

I've watched the trailers they shared for Wonderful World, and it looks really intriguing. They say it's a revenge drama, but it seems to be heavily based on the human condition. Kim Namjoo looks incredible; I really love her acting style. And Cha Eunwoo's acting transformation is also another part of the drama I'm curious about. In some of the scenes they shared, he looks quite good, and I feel like I'm going to like this character. Kangwoo and Semi are also two strong actors, so I'm quite excited!

I'm really excited to see this drama, Kim Nam Joo's return promises much more if it's alongside one of the young actors that catches my attention the most. I am intrigued to see the chemistry on screen since in the conference and the trailers it seems very good. I think they are both an unexpected but magnificent combination. His knowledge of her and his growth as an actor with the subtle way in which he transmits his feelings seems to me to make this drama one of my favorites.

Hi @diary and thank you.
I sure hope it will be available on Hulu. I checked today (Thursday) and it does not appear. However, some dramas have a delayed release for some reason.
I do not want to miss Kim Nam-joo's newest drama.

I'm really glad that "The Impossible Heir" is on Hulu. Episodes dropped on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

As far as I know, dramas don’t usually show up on Hulu search until they are actively available to watch.

I am glad to see Kim Nam Joo once again. Not willing to forgo this drama, as it means I have to wait for another six years to watch her. I don't mind if Cha Eun Woo is acting in it. I realized that he is actually not bad, when he is acting alongside with established actors like Kim Rae Won (Decibel) and Kim Nam Gil (Island). Hope he be able to seize this opportunity and continue to develop his acting or facial expression. Also, my Friday nights have been empty since Knight Flower has ended. I am keen to have a heavy and dark psychological drama to watch during my weekends.

"She gets entangled with a young man ... and the two become involved" Ah! The synopsis is giving vibes which I'm sure are completely unintentional. 😳🤷‍♀️
And ... we have a 9.9 rating. 😮
