I had an entire post planned but I’m too exahusted so here are some really good romantic chemistry in (not romance focused) KDrama
– Mo Mi and Chun Ae in MASK GIRL . Simply electric. every scene of them was so intense and you could feel they were meant for eachother. That dance scene! that use of the red string of fate!!
– the makeout scene in Gaus Electronics had NO BUSINESS being that steamy -while also being really, really funny. (shoutout to the secondary couple which I actually liked much more but like what was that office makeout)
– whatever Strangers from Hell had goin’ on with the male leads. though it’s like… evil romantic chemistry.
– Sweet Home (season ONE) had such mellow, subtle yet sweet romance subplots. charactrisation was done soooo well there in general.
– I count the Red Sleeve as historical drama so it gets an in. Yi San and Deok Im… my heart…
I confess to watching the clip of that Gaus scene from time to time because it’s just so good. Everything from the acting to the direction to the background music is perfection. Here’s the link if anyone wants to re-live it, but I don’t recommend watching if you’re planning to watch the whole drama (HIGHLY recommended, btw. #hiddengem).
There’s something delightful in presenting love and romance as humerous-not taking yourself too seriously but somehow making yourself more down to earth
It’s so relatable, that’s what I really loved about it. I wish more k-drama love stories were like this. Maybe because it was slipped into a workplace comedy they removed the stiffness of typical romcoms. Idk but I want more like this! 😀
musically inclined beanies, I need your help! What drama used that song that goes like “baby baby boy…. I love you” with the rap? it came up recentally and I’m going nuts trying to rememver it

I often see an actor/actress play a character I really love and then I discover that I don’t really care about any other projects but I’ll give some of em a try. opened me up to new genres and shows.
it’s strange to watch two Lee Bo-Young dramas at once (MINE and HIDE) but its cool to see how she acts out her characters differently despite being somewhat simmilar in premise.
-> the acting of the leading ladies is unmatched. They nail EVERY SCENE.
-> I need Ok Ja-Yeon in a horror/thriller drama. She’d kill it.
-> The focus on *the house* and the relations between family and staff makes it very akin to a historical palace drama, somewhat
-> Seo Hyun ‘s struggle with identity vs duty and reputation (which both her sexual orientation AND being the one person holding this family from imploding upon itself play into) is one of the most engahing storylines in the drama and I hope they’ll touch on it more.
-> I hope the “adoptive mother is just as much of a real mother as the biological one” message will stick. Hi Soo is a fantastic mother and its good to see a step mother being a GOOD mother.
-> The nun is still toting that Birkin and I go insane every time that thing is on screen. she is also a professional pot stirrer.
-> good perfect nice husband is actually a gaslighting cheater that watches underground fighting because being gaslighting cheater is not enough. KDrama husbands favourite degree is 180, i guess. I love scummy husbands so it’s a plus for me.
-> didn’t expect to learn about peacock anatomy from this show but here we go.
-> I would very much like for MIL and SIL to stop. yelling. I think you can pass the point of their insufferable behaviour without frying my earphones.
-> btw SIL, this drama partakes in the abhorrent phenomena of “domestic abuse is funny if the abuser is a woman and the victim is a man” and f*ck off with that.
-> there is this live story between the “young master” and the maid Yu Yeon that I do not care for. The power imbalance is very clear and a lot of the guy’s action would be recived by viewers annoying as hell (at best) and exploitative (at worst) if he wasn’t pretty. I understand this is a foil for other relationships in the show and also a reprive from all the messiness, but it’s hard to suspend my disbelief on that one.
-> also kind of pissed off that this story has nothing to do with the actual plot and Yu Yeon’s poverty is mainly used for… what? making the pair seem more impossible? Why did we need gangsters coming for her? losing a well paying job is enough of high stakes without one off thugs.
-> the clothes and sets are spot on. ESPECIALLY for the leading ladies.

Back to WEDDING IMPOSSIBLE and before the next episode will air let me just say I found the FL-SML friendship engaging – because it’s not perfect and absolutely harmonious, and the show does not shy away from this.
*spoilers. Duh*
Do Han (SML) asked his best friend of many years, A Jeong ( FL), to fake marry him for three years. Thing is, he’s gay and would rather not hurt and lie to a stranger, and he HAS to marry because his family is typical chebol drama family.
To this, the A Jeong initially refuses, and does not hide her discontent with the request. At some point, she says he should just TELL his family about his sexual orientation, and let it be “a family drama about a family accepting their son’s differences”; to that, Do Han says – “when has there ever been a family drama with a gay son?” which was the most cutting line of the show thus far, and part of an ongoing meta commentary. This effectively shuts A Jeong up, because she accepts her own ignorance on the subject: you can’t just tell someone “out yourself and it’ll all be fine :)”, it’s not that simple, ESPECIALLY if the family is conservative and hyper demanding environment like Do Han’s family is.
WITH THAT BEING SAID, Do Han shows ignorance of his own. Listen, asking someone to fake marry you is a LOT. even if it’s “”only”” for three years. A Jeong that while Do Han is weary about lying to someone else, he has no issue essentially asking his friend to lie and compromise her own happiness for him. Marrying him means compromising her ability to date and find romantic fulfilment (which even though we don’t know if it’s something she’s after currently, she might be, and Do Han asks her without bringing this into consideration). Marriage is a time commitment, and would also require her to change her lifestyle, where she lives, require her to lie to her OWN family and friends, etc. Not to mention the FAMILY he asks her to marry into, which she only recently discovered who they actually are (and AFTER he asks her to marry him, btw). Marrying into a high profile chebol family is A LOT. A Jeong frames it as the chairman would “come after her” but I’m more worried about the media which is a big issue seeing how she wants to work in show business. SPEAKING OF WHICH, it’s very pretentious to describe it as an “acting job” and “getting to do the acting she loves so much”. She doesn’t like acting because she gets to lie to everyone, dude. More than anything, Do Han sprung this whollleee thing on her without asking her for permission first. It started as an innocent joke, but Do Han seems to think she’s gonna go with it and had the nerve to be upset with her for telling the chairman she’ll “break up” with him. HELLO, she never agreed to this, and so fart the situation led to your weirdo jerk brother bothering her like, five times or so – and that’s a family member that actually LIKES you.
Now obviously by the end of ep 2 A Jeong is up to the plan (if only for SPITE, which is SO HER), and I suspect (hope!) we’ll get a resulution of Do Han coming out to his family and being accepted, but at first it’s just two friends not understanding the position the other is in, getting scolded for it, apologising for it, and ultimately overcoming this. It’s pretty rare to see male-female friendship in drama, and I’m glad we gotten one and I’m SUPER GLAD it’s not perfect but mature enough to grow from it’s hardship.
There is actually a Korean drama about a family going through the coming out and acceptance of their beloved successful doctor son who is gay. Life Is Beautiful (2010) – https://mydramalist.com/318-life-is-beautiful-2010
It’s a lovely weekend family which I adore to bits. No makjang but beautiful through and through about a multi-generation family in Jeju. My all time favourite family drama.
Oh no! Episodes 3-4 of IMPOSSIBLE HEIR are now down from HULU? I guess it WAS a mistake and someone caught up to them.. I’m barely a week on this platform and hulu turned out to be one of the most tumultuous and unclear streaming services, I am not even gonna START about WONDERFUL WORLD (not again, anyway)
Hulu is notorious famous for such early bird uploads which they then delete to be put back up on the correct / designated time. By then of course the dramas find their way on sites that have dramas that are cool.
It’s so ODD for me. Like, shouldn’t there be a program that uploads the episodes on the correct days? What is the source of this error?
Also, it’s a real mystery why shows that are supposed to upload would not but not-for-air episodes would. It’s so confusing! And I literally signed up to get on air dramas!
Lol, dramas that are cool in the refreshing shade of the dark side.
@seeker Perhaps it’s their newest strategy? Early upload, take down, correct upload. Maybe they think this can lure viewers in or create some kind of discussion. 😂
@seeker Prime did it with the final episode of Marry My Husband. But yeah, Hulu is notorious for this particular screw-up. It makes you wonder if someone’s getting an incentive from a shady place.
IMPOSSIBLE HEIR – a few of my favourite characters:
=> The Chairman’s shirt’s ungodly patterns. Every single day this man wakes up and chooses visual noise. He’s not like other Chairmen, he’s a cooolll chairman.
=> That one hacker dude Tae Oh pulled out of nowhere and does more to progress the plot han In Ha (SML) and Hye Won (FL) combined
=> The unrelenting, always presence at the corner of my eye hunch that it’s not In Ha who’s the true impossible heir, but but Tae Oh.
My \”favorite\” part of Disney aquiring new and exciting dramas is that I have ZERO idea where, when and if they\’ll turn up. Is WONDERFUL WORLD Coming to hulu??? Hu-knows!
My favorite part is guessing if this is the week I’ll cave in and get Hulu. Just discovered that my cable pkg includes fX and therefore I can see Shogun, so this weeks answer is No Hulu For Me!

=> The sister 🙂
=> That big, middle-finger esque KangOh building

Yes, yes, yes …. I’m all for Tae-oh as the “actual” heir. *high five*
Thank you for your delightful post. 😊👌

I mean… from what weve seen so far…. he is the one actively working towards it, so,,,

I mean it would be somewhat of a downer if the heir was In ha all along. 😂

I get it, the list of shows I want to see grows longer and longer. Impossible Heir almost made me push the button this week 😁
