Thanks for this reminder that we don’t show our appreciation often enough for @tccolb who has the arduous task of mining the entertainment news for info to keep us anticipating the next batch of dramas.

🫘Beansprout🌱 awarded to @tccolb for keeping us in the loop and always starting any news about Disney drops by naming the platform so we know not to read any more to avoid getting annoyed at having FOMO yet again!

While I'm in for Lee Jae-wook, I do hope Lee Jun-young's character is not too negative and we get a bromance. 😂

Yup, here for Lee Jae-wook!🙋‍♀️

That's my hope, too. I like Lee Jun-young, but I've only seen him in a couple of things, because it seems like he mostly does scary villain characters, and I can't handle that 😅

He was so sweet in May I Help You! The show went off the rails hard in the last few episodes, but that wasn’t his fault. I found him and his FL totally charming.

@jls943 I skip that last storyline on my rewatches, and it is such a lovely show.

The movie Brave Citizen has scarred me so deeply that I'm hoping upon hoping for him to take on a super sweet role to cure me of that nightmare!!

I love the revenge, bromance and the corporate scheming here. Not watching anything new except for Impossible Heir in February.

Jungnyun has been calling my name from the first time I heard about it. I am looking forward to it finally dropping onto our screens it feels like it has been a long wait.
Eye shopping sounds like it could be an interesting watch, it sounds like a drama version of the film Broker which was quite bleak. I haven’t read the webtoon so not sure of the tone.

Should I be hopeful for the next weekender? It is from the writer-actor duo of previous hit weekender - which I did not like. It had double amnesia and some other crazy shenanigans. I do like my makjangs but double amnesia is where I draw my line.

Yes...another Kim Tae-ri drama. I loved her work in previous two dramas. Awaiting for a hat-trick.

If a hat-trick is three consecutive wins, then Kim Tae-ri has already achieved it with Mr. Sunshine, Twenty-Five Twenty-One, and Revenant. She has not had one unsuccessful drama.

O/T. In cdramaland we have Youku’s JUDGE DEE’S MYSTERY airing episode one (of 32) this Tuesday, February 6. It will be great if Youku makes this drama available for free subbed on Youtube like it did for THE HOPE.
(I broke down and subscribed to Youku’s international app so I should be available to watch one way or the other.) There is a nice subbed teaser available so I am assuming JUDGE DEE will be available subbed. This drama is based on the Robert van Gulik Judge Dee novels which I read years ago so I am really looking forward to this. I loved A JOURNEY TO LOVE and THE HOPE so I hope my luck continues.

I think Youku eventually uploads many of their shows fully subbed on YT for free after milking everything they can from those during VIP broadcast. They didn't even have a desktop version of their international app prior to TTEOTM's explosion last year (before people had to watch everything on their phones or do some technical mumbo-jumbo synchronizing devices), so YT is a valuable exposure platform for them who are still quite behind Tencent and iQiyi in terms of viewership/number of subscribers.

The next big step Youku could make would be to become available on Roku which is where I watch iQIYI, Viki, Netflix etc. with the proviso that not all of iQIYI dramas are available subbed (the recent A SOLDIER’S STORY being one).

A Tencent subbing complaint. While finishing up watching Youku’s THE HOPE (no subs problems) on Youtube I watched also on Youtube Tencent’s crime/mystery THE LONG SEASON (2023) (12 eps). The english subs were not good.I mean terrible. Cops/crime is a favorite genre of mine and the story and performances were so good that I persevered to the end (filling in the blanks the best I could). I hope Tencent ups their english subbing game. Then again it is the only Tencent drama I have watched on Youtube so maybe I am painting too broad a brush.

I like iQiyi's content and site, but they are rather stingy with freebies, even have a truly uncool habit of suddenly locking behind the paywall previously free stuff without any warning. Guess that's how they made themselves more profitable lately)))

For Tencent it varies from show to show, I've seen both pretty decent and really bad ones from them. Big budget idol stuff is more likely to get a proper human-made translation, while cheaper ones sometimes look like they weren't even EDITED by anyone aside AI. Idk about modern crime shows, I've yet to properly venture into that genre (must admit a certain bias against possible heavy propaganda), but the reason may be that it's just not the type of drama heavily in demand internationally, so they simply don't bother much.

Interesting developments:
No 3. I think I will stick with the title (tvN’s) JEONG NYEON (1950s period). I have had it in my list for ages now and MDL reports 16 episodes with an airing date in October so I guess it will be stay tuned for awhile.
No 4. EYE SHOPPING/ I SHOPPING. “i Shopping” is a Kakao webtoon so I am assuming that Kakao entertainment will be doing the production. Perhaps not. I have seen it referred to as action/thriller. Someone also in the cast as a lead that caught my eye is the young actor Ahn Ji-ho who at age 20 already has already given some beautiful performances (such as the young high schooler in the great NOBODY KNOWS (2020)). I will definitely keep an ‘eye’ out for this drama.
No. 5. Netflix’s MY NAME IS LOH KIWAN. I will be there on March 1.

4. Have you watched Night Has Come? Ahn Ji-ho stretches his acting range in this drama and gives one of the most amazing performances.

I love the 1st season of Squid Game, but let's hope that it does not the disappointment train that is the "Netflix 2nd season curse" that plagues both Sweet Home and D.P. To say "high expectation" for SG2 is an understatement; it probably has the highest high expectation of any 2nd season ever.

"Jeong Nyeon" has a fantastic cast and I'm not even talking about Kim Tae-Ri yet; any casting director that could pull off Shin Ye-Eun, Jung Eun-Chae, Moon So-Ri, and Ra Mi-Ran together DESERVE a raise.

I'm secretly hoping Lee Jae-wook plays a villain role someday because he has both the looks and the acting to nail it; just like Lee Jong-Suk or Im Si-Wan - but probably not in this drama. (I'm setting my expectations low: it might be just another chaebol revenge drama combined with teenaged angst. Yes surprise me, drama!)

Hi, Beanies.

Has anyone read the webtoon, Jung-yeon?

I read a little something about the female character and wonder if the drama will be faithful to that aspect of the story.

Also, can we expect to hear our leads singing? That would be great.

I haven't read the webtoon, but if you're referring to the lesbian romance, I have more faith in tvN being faithful to this aspect of the story than conservative MBC.

Also if it wasnt for Gong Yoo, I would not be interested in SG2. I would most likely watch the clips in YT instead

Definitely Squid Game 2. Just speculation of course, but I'm crossing my fingers that this season will be the revenge take-down of the game and the people behind it. There are two returning characters that could give us the satisfying payback viewers would like to see for the masochists behind it all. If so, it's definitely a good idea for people that haven't seen Season One to watch it before the new one, otherwise you won't enjoy the bloodbath as much.
