Drama viewership ratings for the week of December 4-10, 2023

It’s a super nice jump for our weekend dramas, with The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract, My Demon, Welcome to Samdal-ri, and The Goryeo-Khitan War all hitting nice numbers by their second episodes this week. Maestra: Strings of Truth also starts out strong, hitting 4.8% with its premiere. But perhaps the real party we should be having is for ENA’s Tell Me That You Love Me and its 2% mark.

You've traded your "salvation" for "hanbok"?

Yeah.
Salvation was Gu Won, and I don't like that guy anymore. Hehe.

Now the whole name it's just about Park.
She makes hanboks and she tried to pay the taxi fare with milk (I will never get over that).

@enriquequierecagar that was indeed memorable. I really appreciate your logic in the display names. A drama which can make you keep the display name during its entire run is worthy.

1

I hope Park is that drama. I really don't want to change the name again, I love this show so much!! 🥺

Eyy the domestic uptick for My Demon!! Let's break 5% with next week 🤞 And almost double digits for Park's Marriage Contract - surely 10 if not more for the next episodes?! 🤩 Why do both my favourite shows have to be in competing time slots though 😭

My Demon is still going strong with Netflix ratings though it seems - has been in the top 10 this past week in 63 countries (including mine yay!) and is in the global top 10 for non-english TV shows once again (that's two for two now). Same with Sweet Home 2, I don't think the numbers are impressive as season 1 sadly but was in the top 10 for 23 countries in the week that passed, as well as being in global top 10 for non-english TV shows (stats source for anyone interested: https://www.netflix.com/tudum/top10/tv-non-english)

Thank you for the Netflix ratings. They are actually fairly significant for these shows in economic terms.

Thanks for the Netflix's ratings. I wish SK releases OTT (Waave, TVING, Coupong etc., ) ratings like they do for TV.

The winners of the weekend are still the same, LYOL, TSPMC and Goryeo Khitan War. Its a huge jump for TSPMC too for its 6th episode! Yey!
Tae Ha's dimples probably helped bribe more audience to tune in on Saturday! 🤭

I'm pausing for later, but I'm happy for the ratings. The older viewers are the most loyal to daeha sageuks. It would have been higher if the quality was at the "Jeong Do-jeon" level.

Things can be higher or lower, but then don't forget when was Jeon Do Yeon was created and aired, in an era or time when there are few or limited choices for viewers.

While I agree with you, I believe "Jeong Do-jeon" appealed to the same viewers as GKW. K-viewers didn't watch it because there were limited choices. It was a high-quality daeha sageuk.
If the quality were better for GKW, I believe it would have more viewers no matter how many dramas to choose from.

It still has a way to go. I think it'll surpass "King of Tears" in ratings since it has more episodes and no controversies.

The ratings for GKW are going in the right direction.
KING OF TEARS hit 11.0% on episode 11. Let’s see if GKW can match or better that.

Glad to see so many weekend shows hitting their stride. And surprised that 4.8% of the Korean audience have joined this one Beanie in watching MMM-the makjangy melo Maestra!

And isn’t Matchmakers’ 4.3% pretty decent for a Mon-Tues show?

The appeal of PMC for me, is the comedy.

It's an easy watch, and it's entertaining. Lee Se-young is a good fit for this type of sageuk. She is not a sageuk newbie (big plus), and comedy is her comfort zone.

It's not attempting anything interesting, but is good at hitting most of the basics and in a fast-paced and easy to follow manner. Lee Se-young is being incredibly funny and charming. Bae In-hyuk is also good and has chemistry with her. Fun sidekicks that have their own developing and hilarious romance. Some emotional moments.
Also the corporate fight - boring as it is- gives our leads enough little wins, so you don't feel frustrated on their behalf for long.

I'm already rather worried because most Beanies seem to love Park's Marriage Contact and I usually have the opposite reaction to shows as most Beanies!!
I waited so long for this show! Please please be good to me!!

Just try out the first four episodes, and ask yourself whether you can tolerate the genre, the storyline and the cast. Cause in the end...it is you who will be watching it for yourself.

Given its dramatic limitations THE GORYEO-KHITAN WAR is probably doing about as well as could be expected.

Good for PARKS MARRIAGE CONTRACT- the numbers are well deserved.

I know that THE MATCHMAKERS are not in the best time slot, but these numbers are absurdly low for such a good show. I would have expected higher number for MY DEMON as well but given so much competition on the weekend something has to give.

Our Weekender languishes- perhaps it is because our characters do also. But we ended the week with a cliffhanger so perhaps things will perk up next week.

Many characters in Live Your Own Life don't seem to move forward. Female lead just goes through same ridiculousness of getting walked on every week, and her thieving, entitled mother needs a severe wake up call. FL's 2 younger brothers are copies of mom, while older brother is passive-aggressive. Some good actors, but plot needs to start moving forward!

The Hitler and Elvis segment .😵‍💫😓🤯
Is there no one at this company that checks the writer’s script ? No checks or balances? The story is all over the place. Hyo-shim’s mother , that character alone is enough to sabotage the show.
Can a show’s writer be fired mid drama ? How about the actress ? She is my 2023 Anti-crush. She needs to be crushed under a proverbial boulder .Aigoo ⁉️

Weekenders can afford to take time, but we're halfway through. It seems as if the story is still in "set-up" mode, when will we get a move on it.

Yes, we did indeed see significant movement on a number of fronts, including particularly the FL's Oppas. And, for all that Ruby may think she has her parents buffaloed in fact the ground has shifted and she knows it. Maybe her parents can announce that they are taking a second look at the potential of her younger brother?

We will not know until next week what is actually happened to the Chairman, but it looked as if he suffered a stroke. Even if it was not a stroke the position of Tae-min's parents is now massively changed from where they were: From now on they are dealing from a position of weakness, not strength. That is why the meeting between Hyo-shim and our Evil Aunt will be far different than what we are used to seeing in this situation. Perhaps this will be the point where Hyo-shim finally gets to start calling her own shots.

Ms. Choi vs Tae-min? Yes, this is now an adversarial relationship. While this time it was indeed caused by Tae-min it is Ms. Choi's mistake to fix. She can blame it on her dad all she wants but in fact she has made a major misstep. Does this writer have a plan for fixing that? Good thing we are only at the midpoint because whatever can be done is not going to be easy. One of my complaints about the writer is that we never see these two actually really talk to each other heart to heart- and that is simply stupid. This may be one of the single most frustrating match-ups in K-drama history: We have two people who are actually perfect for each other but do not know it because they do not take the time to learn about themselves and the other person as well. They are both simply too proud to acknowledge their mutual ignorance.

2

Thank you @oldlawyer for the detailed update. My LYOL watch has been a little lax given the packed weekend watch schedule. 😊 The actors and charm of the weekenders still bring me back. I really appreciate a weekender style of storytelling because they can take their time to tell an engaging story. If the writer is somehow able to weave all threads together. I would still applaude this drama.

Thank you for your kind words. This writer has written a weekender before so in theory should be able to weave the threads together. At least the external pressures which hopelessly warped the previous weekender beyond recognition do not seem to be present.

SAMDAL-RI is doing well. If I drop it (and I hope it doesn’t come to that) it will be because of the pervasive drinking. I can’t take 16 episodes of alcohol abuse as nice rom-com. Sorry. “Who are you?” “How did I get home?” Classic signs of at least problems with alcohol.

Is there somewhere we can see streaming ratings (not only netflix, kinda combined streamers)?

Required fields are marked *

Well, there isn't really any such thing as streaming ratings since they don't releases a lot of data (and even if they did it wouldn't track with how normal TV ratings work), but....
Flixpatrol has a lot of data, but a lot of it is behind the paywall. Probably most interesting free thing you can get is the top 10 lists for each streamer for that day. You can then use the dropdowns to pick a country, or the worldwide tab, which usually gives you the worldwide top 10 movies and TV shows on that streamer and a chart of countries with the #1 Movie and #1 TV show
