Perfect Marriage revenge really should not have worked on paper, the source material its based on is not exactly good but the drama adaptation is!!

The drama works and is wildly entertaining because its completely unpretentious, it never tries to pass itself off as deep or profound and its level of self awareness almost borders on parody. At only 12 episodes the pacing is lighting fast and it never overstays its welcome

Its a makjang drama that fully leans into every single trope associated with the genre but also manages to subvert some of them as well. A great heroine, a solid male lead and scene stealing villains and supporting characters, its worth giving the drama a shot if you havent.

Agreed. And also dialogue was mostly interesting, it's the quotable one-liners that tickle me intellectually, which were sometimes (unintentionally?) funny.

"God knows better than me what happens six feet under."
"The one who's more in love is always bound to sacrifice."
"The thing that people actually mean when they say "differences" during a divorce. That's something important to me." hehe

And many more quotable one-liners I'm forgetting. I think that what separated the regular makjang from THIS makjang is actually a clever dialogue sprinkled here and there.

Just watch the first two episodes--the set up, the tone, the plot, and the romance-- it's all in there. If you don't like it, bail then because the series continues like this and it's not for you. If you like or love it, strap in and enjoy the ride because it's best in class for this drive. Don't worry about the speed because you are in the hands of an expert driver who doesn't drive like a typical drama lead who just found out something urgent while driving; instead, Do Guk will be right beside you uttering sweet reassurances the whole time while you zoom along, Squee!

Perfect Marriage Revenge survived First Impressions and became full recap. That is no easy feat. Also, that is how worthwhile this drama is. Watch it cause it will be worth your while.

Turn your brain off, turn on your “OTT-enjoyment sensors,” and follow along on a fun narrative journey that makes enough sense – but not too much sense – to provide 12 hours of total delight! There is a character in here for everyone to love and also for everyone to hate, both with glee!

This is makjang light, mindfulness edition. Plot goes at breakneck speed, characters are acting ott, but everything happens with a grain of salt - this drama doesn't take itself too seriously, and writers and actors seemed to have a lot of fun in turning many things upside down. Chaebol family of the ML? Mainly consisting of three awesome women. Cheesy tropes that other dramas do? Are put down a notch by a witty one-liners here.
This is pure escapism and distraction, and it's not too badly made! The emphasis lies on living a good life and how to get there, not on revenge - although of course the half-bad and bad characters are served their just desserts, of course.
Mind you, the Korean title translates not to "Perfect Marriage Revenge", but to "The Essence of a Perfect Marriage", and that's where we're headed in the end. If you're in need for some light and speedy entertainment just lean back and let them do all the work while you're watching!

I think it's a decent adaptation of the webtoon. It hit all the important plot points and streamlined things in a good way.

The male lead's family, particularly the women, are kinda awesome. Actually, this is a pretty female driven show overall. Yeah, there's some drama with the male lead's character and his brother but most of the highlights come from the female characters.

The mothers were really casted well. They really do give off a rich and regal vibe. Now I'm wondering are updo hairstyles a class status thing and I never realized that?

The drama covers alot quickly with no real fillers. It's endless relevations and I think it could cause laughter with how ridiculous things are. It's an easy watch to decompress with especially after watching heavier dramas.

Perfect pass time without wrecking your brain or rolling your eyes. This is what it is - a feat that few aspiring dramas can achieve.

Save it for a rainy day or drama slump!

A warm makjang filled with love and laughter .
Prince Charming and Cinderella meet up and fate transports them back in time to change their destiny.
A quick paced chaebol succession story tempered with a wonderful OTP. A match formed by necessity blossoms into true love.
The woman really shine here, lots of snappy one liners, fashion is top notch
At 12 episodes the story flies by. 5 Stars

I tried this drama based on the exceedingly high bean count it got this year. And I have to say...personal taste is sure subjective. The purpose of a review is to help people who are looking for that kind of story to find it. So, if you are looking for extreme makjang, this is it. Other things it features: over the top, melodramatic acting, birth secrets, cheating spouses/sisters/wannabe partners, evil stepmothers, chaebols, bizarre 1960s beehive hairdos, heavy-lidded masculine male leads (no flower boys here!), revenge, poisoning attempts, arson, whoops-not-as-dead-as-we-were-led-to-believe characters, hysterics and fainting, etc.--then this may be for you. Plus points in that it is all wrapped up within 12 episodes.

I've spent a lot of time over the years trying to tell people that Kdramas are not soap operas, but this one turns all of that on its head. People who love soap operas seem to adore this, so I think it definitely has its audience. And if this is you, then enjoy! It can be cathartic to see the baddies meet karma. If you're curious about the makjang genre, this is a short one to truly get the gist of what it's about. On the other hand, if this is exactly the kind of storyline you can't stand, then perhaps check out some of the other highly rated dramas this year instead.

(I do give it plus points for a satisfyingly nice in-law family!)
