Park Min-young resurrects in Please Marry My Husband

Park Min-young, Na In-woo, Lee Yi-kyung

Casting news is out for tvN’s upcoming revenge romance Please Marry My Husband, which features a resurrecting heroine out to ruin the lives of the people who betrayed her. Based on the serialized webtoon of the same name, the drama revolves around second chances, newfound love, and taking charge of one’s destiny.

Park Min-young (Love in Contract) stars as the down-on-her-luck heroine Kang Ji-won, who’s just witnessed her husband Park Min-hwan and her best friend Jung Soo-min having an affair. Played by Lee Yi-kyung (Secret Royal Inspector) and Song Ha-yoon (Oh! Young-shim) respectively, these adulterers lack a single shred of shame. In the ensuing tussle, Min-hwan winds up killing Ji-won — except Ji-won wakes up, and suddenly she’s transported ten years into the past.

Played for a fool by the people she loved most, Ji-won is determined to change her fate and take revenge. What better way to give Soo-min a taste of her own medicine, than to make her step into the shoes of Min-hwan’s wife? Once patient and forgiving, Ji-won has resolved to be a doormat no longer.

Luckily for her, she has someone in her corner. That’ll be the attractive and intelligent Yoo Ji-hyuk, played by Na In-woo (Longing for You). Despite being a high-flying achiever, there’s one area Ji-hyuk hasn’t found success in yet — he’s harboring a longtime crush on Ji-won, and he finds himself uncharacteristically clumsy and awkward in her presence. Aww. The odds are already in his favor, given that he’ll draw a sharp contrast against the selfish Min-hwan and the duplicitous Soo-min, so I’m sure we’re in for a healing romance.

Rounding out the supporting cast, we have Lee Ki-kwang (Circle) as Ji-won’s high-school classmate and current star chef Baek Eun-ho, as well as Gong Min-jung (One Dollar Lawyer) playing Ji-won’s colleague Yang Joo-ran. Not much has been revealed about their roles yet, but it’s good to know Ji-won has more people on her side — she’ll need all the help she can get to punish the cheating couple.

Directed by Park Won-guk (Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist) with scripts written by Shin Yoo-dam (Awaken), Please Marry My Husband is slated for a New Year’s Day premiere next year.

The theme of this year is time-slip revenge melodrama. So many of them

It's all the range in the webtoon world, so I'm not surprised it has made it's way into dramas, just as so many webtoons are being made into dramas now. Though the webtoons are often feature faux-medieval European settings that is almost impossible to adapt into a kdrama.

Time slip is my thing, so I’m not complaining one single bit.

My favorite time slip is when The Time itself becomes the most just and evil of the baddies.

Intriguing … any drama recommendations for that please.

1

@seeker I dont know if Tunnel and Signal are considered in this theme because they have limited romance and more thriller than melodrama. Tomorrow With You is probably more suited. But they are in which Time does counter attack when violated 😄. I just love it that way compare to if the otp go against just the antagonist.

4

Oh there is Nine with Lee Jin wook, Time is wicked there. Love it.

3

Thank you.
I like your perspective and you have suggested good dramas.
Time slips I feel are more suited for thrillers than romance.
I have heard good things about the otp in Tomorrow With You.
I really enjoyed Tunnel when I had watched it.

3

My favorite time slip is Queen In hyun’s man. The romance and chemistry has never been matched.

2

It depends. I've heard talks about REMARRIED EMPRESS drama adaptation for years now despite its not only "faux-medieval European setting", but also other tricky elements like bird shapeshifters, main antagonist being a liberated slave girl somewhat controversial premise and the fact that it takes AGES for FL to actually get divorced and remarried as title suggests. Ofc none of that yet came to a fruition (perhaps due to fanbase backlash?), but I think the original setting being adapted out was always part of the plan. If it ever happens, drama around the production alone would be worth all the popcorn^^

It sounds like it would be expensive to produce and will need a lot of investors, while not being able to rope in any Subway and Kahi stick PPLs.

It would be interesting to see if it can be successful, since that can open up a whole new genre of dramas since there are so many webtoons in that sort of setting.

Or maybe they will just do a loose adaptation like Bride of the Water God / Bride of Habaek. That gorgeous manhwa with the magical kingdom was just made into a bland modern fantasy-light rom-com.

Heavens, pls no! I don't even LIKE that IP, but the implications of such scheme proven to be successful even once... Yikes.

We have this and Sung Hoon's drama that looks similar on paper. Then Moon In the Day and Story of Park's Contract Marriage which falls into similar genre.

Durian Affair which has already aired also has the same theme. I think there are more. Unless you watch them yourself, you wouldn't know the difference

I hope Park Min-young gets some good revenge. I’m tired of her always being the goody two shoes.
I want a evil PMY ‼️

I love PMY and LYK(honestly he should be the main lead more often), but I wish they had cast someone other than NIW. He is missing a certain something for me, he isn't a bad actor, but hmmm.....

I just read the description for Perfect Marriage Revenge and I can’t see any daylight between the two.

I'm sorry @elinor, you just aren't reading carefully. In this one, she dates to take revenge, and in the other one, she enters into a contract marriage cto take revenge. Of course, there's a big difference between dating that leads to love and revenge and a contract marriage that leads to love and revenge. One has a contract! So its legal!

Silly me, I still can't see the difference, possibly because my eyes glaze over a few words into the description of each show, which definitely interferes with reading carefully. Also, I have learned from kdramas that "contract dating" is a thing that exists and we don't yet know if that happens here, right? A fundamental problem is that promos have become so generic, vague, and misleading that we can have no idea of the true nature or genre of a show until the quantum superposition is resolved.

To the extent I can make out any distinguishing features, this one sounds like it has the potential to be marginally less dumb than the latest entry in the Perfect series, but it features Park Min-young and I am completely done with her. And "second chances, newfound love, and taking charge of one’s destiny" plus "healing romance" are the opposite of what I draw from this description. [Cue webtoon readers swooping in to assure me that I'm wrong AGAIN.]

I haven’t read this webtoon but the premise of cheating lovers kill FL who time slips for revenge is all the rage in Chinese web novels which I may or may not have read far too many. Nah ha … not admitting to anything!!

K-novels too. And webtoons. And novel based webtoons. It's like 99% of them all!

3

I'm sure it will show healing, if only how healing from plastic surgery makes you look 35 when you are only 39.

Plus because its based on a webtoon, as are 99% of kdramas are these days, you know it will combine imaginative fantasy, colorful imagery and a narrative that is not very satisfying unless you view the show while simultaneously scrolling through intricately drawn panels on your phone.

🤣 … i concede defeat. You have obviously watched far far more dramas than me!!

6

Ahem … based on my extensive legal experience (by watching far to many dramas) a contract for any “illegal” matter such as “contract marriage” is illegal whereas in case of dating or promise of marriage the reneging party can be sued for breach of contract. 😀

But, as you well know because of your kdrama expertise when the romantic contract involves revenge then it becomes a matter of justice which supercedes any contractual matters.

I will probably give this drama a try though..
Excited to see Lee Ki Kwang!

Can we see Doo Joon in a new drama too...

Gi-kwang!!! I really thought that he was excellent in Circle and thought he would have more roles after that—-it’s only been 6 years! And I harbor a soft spot for Na In-woo, so I’ll check this one out. I’m not super excited seeing Park Min-young and honestly can’t imagine the chemistry she’ll have with with the ML. I lasted all of 20 minutes with Song Kang and her in that weather show because I just thought she looked too mature next to him. I hope I don’t think the same here.

Gi-kwang! He was so good in Circle and he's the only reason this show is on my radar at all. It's been a long time since that show; I think his time away from acting was due to military service plus activities and recordings with his band.

I've never seen Na In-woo in anything. Will Ditto ever be released with English subs? 🥺

I would say that I agree with you about gi-kwang and yes, I know he has a solo album and a Highlight group full album and a mini album with the group too, but his bandmate came out with a show over a year ago. They were released from military about the same time. I guess it’s not a priority for him, but I hope he does more shows because he’s got some natural ability. Na In-woo reminds me of a bull in a China shop. He’s so tall and kind of bumbling, but way endearing.

One of my favorite Webtoon, now a Kdrama adaptation I'm so happy, I really love LYK seeing him as Minhwan is going to hurt me, but the novel and webtoon was actually good, I can't wait for the drama hope they don't disappoint me again

I wish Park Min-Young chose a drama that is not about romance... Forecasting Love and Weather was not really good, I dropped Love in Contract and I don't specially like Na In-Woo as an actor neither his choices of dramas...

I hope she will get a better end than in 49 Days, I'm still angry with this one >_<

I’d like to see PMY a take on a different role. Has she ever played a mother ? A evil doer ?

2

Required fields are marked *

Park Min-Young always looks like she has hidden depths and can initially appear to be very cold, but when she smiles, her whole face lights up and given the right pairing, her eyes do become much warmer. So it takes longer for her romances to heat up.

I loved Forecasting, Love in Contact, What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, Healer and Her Private Life, but I think her best role to date was in When the Weather Is Fine, where her moody looks are used fully to portray a character with deep wounds and a broken heart, a part that was possibly helped by all her personal problems around that time.

She is also beginning to look a little older now and really needs some meatier roles to take her further away from that first-love type genre. I hope she has the courage to make that shift.

I can see PMY as the FL,but I've not enjoyed NIW in any drama apart from Mr Queen and as someone who read the webtoon he doesn't have the physique of the webtoons male lead, but he may bulk up before the movie so I'll try to watch it before I judge it

Park Min-Young is fast becoming one of the K-Drama actresses that is a "green flag" for me - any shows that include are always, at the very least, watchable.

I'm looking forward to this series when it comes out. Revenge stories are always very satisfying if done well.

Well, the webtoon sure isn't lacking in makjang stunts pulled by Soo-min so the melodrama is sure to be pleasing to the Korean audience.

PMY is an excellent casting choice for a heroine that is smart, proactive and cunning. Not to mention knowledgable about people's personalities and previous choices in her earlier life.

Unfortunately, I had a big problem with the characters in the webtoon as I found them too cardboard cut, hence a pass for me.

it was a fun webtoon... or at least, it was fun seeing the heroine taking down the villains and the healing romance(s) were adorable, but don't expect a lot of depth. I just hope they include all the happy endings for the various characters... or don't just cut out all the supporting cast (where's the ML's sister?). Speaking of the ML, NIW doesn't seem like the right fit in terms of age or physique but let's see...
