[K-drama Treasure Hunt] Falling book rescue moments

Welcome to the K-drama treasure hunt, where we all go looking for K-drama treasure in the form of tiny drama details that we know and love. Sometimes these details take the shape of well-worn tropes (oppa Band-Aiding) or storytelling devices (Top Secret Deadly Allergy), but other times it’s just details we know we’ve seen in other dramas, but need help putting all the clues together.

Each week we’ll put you on the hunt for a piece of K-drama treasure, and you can report your findings in the comments.

There’s no umpire in this game, so if you find the detail we’re looking for, drop the drama title (or even better, drama title + episode number) in the comments, and we’ll all take your word for it. Or, we’ll go binge watch just to see it play out.

And remember, we’re here to map our way to the treasures not to the plot twists! We know how exciting as it can be to have all the hard-earned details stashed in your head, but let’s try to keep the spoilers out of the comments.

This week’s treasure:

Falling book rescue moments.

Your mission:

Find all those fast-reflex moments where a stack of books is about to topple down on a girl’s head and a guy swoops in to take the hit — or maybe even catch the books. Sometimes she’s trying to edge a volume out of a tall pile (a la this week’s installment of Twinkling Watermelon) and other times the whole shelf is coming down. If there’s a falling-book rescue involved, it counts.

Reference drama:

Twinkling Watermelon (Episode 3)

The list for this is so long but my memory is failing me, both saguek and modern. Save for one...

Falling book moment in Monthly Magazine Home. The bookshelf is coming down on Na Young-won and Yoo Ja-sung swoops in to the rescue, using his entire build as a shield to break the fall.

The Red Sleeve Cuff. I don't know the situation anymore but I'm sure this had such moments.

OK. Got one--sort of. Numbers, episode 7, at around the 56 minute mark. I know the timestamp because I had the real desire to go and find it to ensure that it hit the mark close enough here. No, it's not books that fall, it's a few records boxes, but it is in an accounting library. Close enough?

I remembered it because of the jokes we were having in the comments section about the fact that our "OTP" was drinking beer in the library just prior to this "accident" where Ho-woo does indeed protect Yeon-ah's head from what could--frankly--have been heavy documentation. There'll be no drinking in our chain of accounting libraries, will there, @hacja ? It's an occupational safety hazard...plain and simple.

It's famous trope but surprisly I didn't remember many dramas 😅

In The Interest of Love (ep. 6), he searched a file and she helped him to find it because she was the one who classed it.

In The King's Affection (ep. 5), she had a nighmare and she tried to choke our poor ML. Then, she regained her sense but leaned on the bookcase .He protected her from a vase and not a book.

In True Beauty (ep. 4), he saved from mangas but it wasn't a big scene, it was very casual as they continued to talk about make-up :p

But for me, they were the hottest library scenes in KDrama world. I really liked One Spring Night's one when he helped to class the book or the When the Weather is Fine's one when she said she wanted to sleep with him 😁

Deserving of the Name. Does it count if the girl isn't the main lead?

Twinkling Watermelon this past week! The would-be dad saves the would-be mom from falling books in the bookstore that was the future music store portal to the past. She falls in love and he just is happy he caught a book that he thinks will change the course of his life. 😂 Now, if you’re confused, it just means you should watch this gem of a show!

Well, it is not a book but scrolls. And it was the guy who got save by the lady 😬

This is none other than Mudeok catched from Danggu fell off's scroll with perfect dancing😁. Definitely season 1 Alchemy of Soul, but cannot remember which episode

In Cheat on me, if you can, the writer FL Cho Yeo Jung is in her basement. She tries to take a book from a shelf, and it starts to fall. The whole shelf collapses on her assistant Kim Young Dae's back.

In The red sleeves, Lee Se Young starts to fall backward and the King Lee Jun Ho pushes her energically back up the ladder.

In <b<Go back couple jang Nara falls from the ladder directly into Jang Ki Yong's arms.

in one of the early episodes of "flower of evil" lee jun gi swoops in to protect moon chae won, his wife, from a bookshelf full of tools. it's real angsty/intense though, bc she is chasing him but doesn't know he's her husband and he can't let her see his face...

Oh wow this seems rarer than I thought, I can't recall any. The closest would be 100 Days My Prince ep 6 where the ML shields the FL from falling... wait for it... beans!

I’m not sure it happened, but for drama titled ‘Romance is a Bonus book’, such a scene should be a pre- requisite? No?

In "Our Beloved Summer' there is a scene in the den where Yeon Su riffles through some books and a book falls? I just can't recall now. I think she finds the school drawing at that time.

Ha! In See You in My 19th life she deliberately makes the book fall on him to hit him on the head.. (and makes it seem like an accident) It's still falling-book, but the opposite of rescue...
