Drama viewership ratings for the week of October 9-15, 2023

There’s a new kid in town kicking ass and taking names, and that’s Strong Girl Nam-soon, which more than doubled its ratings in its second week, nearly hitting double digits *already*!

Meanwhile, Arthdal Chronicles lags, and the return of My Dearest adds even more complexity to a busy weekend drama lineup. Similarly, ENA’s entrance into the Saturday-Sunday running with Evilive does not fare well.

Looking at Twinkling Watermelon’s drop last week I am guessing people are not liking the changes in the female lead’s personality. Let’s hope this week’s confirmation re her being a time traveller to helps bring the numbers back up as I was hoping to see 5.0 this week.

I seem to be the only one who prefers this Seol In-ah!

Keeping up my pattern of liking all the female characters everyone else dislikes 🫣

I like her too.
Or more, I feel for her (character she plays), because I think she is actually very sad and shaking things up in her attempt to change things for the better (future)...

Exactly! Give me a sad/depressed female lead trying to change her life and I am all over it.

Oh no, @mindy, as @dorotka said, you are not alone--the show really picked up for me these last two episodes because of the new Seol In-ah and the additional complexity she adds to the story.

As someone that was more invested in the real Se Kyeong's life, I feel this. Hahaha.

I think if they focus a little bit more in Eun Gyeol and his parents and we see Se Kyeong's daughter by herself (trying to change her destiny), that would help.

They revealed about the personality change in Ep 7 and that gave a better understanding about her, but I am not moved by her backstory. I am still invested in OG Se Kyung and the parents story, especially Chung Ah.

Episode 7 only made me feel worse about OG Se Kyeong.

If she was the one enjoying her last year of youth with Eun Gyeol, Cheong Ha and Yi Chan, maybe... Aigoo, maybe her life would've been different.

Or it might have been Choi hyun wook supposed cigarette butt scandal. Sk can be butt hurt for lots of reasons and littering is actually a sane one.

I had not heard of that incident as I try to separate the character I watch and enjoy in the drama from the actors real lives where they are going to be human and make mistakes..

Wow, Strong Girl Nam-soon surpassed Strong Woman Do Bong-soon's highest ratings in four episodes.

Evilive, ouch. 😰

Is Evilive still only available to us outside of Korea via "the ways of which we do not speak?" Anyone?

It was okay. I watched it while waiting for Viki to drop Ep 7 of LYOL

It had the “I am in debt so I am willing to do X for cash” trope 😓
Some revenge killing going on 😲
Not sure if they were going for dark comedy at the end of Ep 2 .🤔

It’s on K-Plus for those in some Southeast Asian countries (Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia I think?), which is where the subs are from on the 🏴‍☠️ sites.

It's really weird to see KBS weekender's ratings so low.

The timing (Asian Games and just starting) and personal tragedy together. But it's picking up.

OMG I like a show that has almost double-digit ratings in SK. What's wrong with me? What's wrong with everyone else? What, in every real sense, is wrong with Secretary Kim?

I really liked this week's SWKNS.

STRONG GIRL NAM-SOON is really well done and deserves the ratings.

LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE has largely concluded its introductory phase and we will see the replacement actor for the character of the Chairman/Tae-hee and 2ML's father/ML's uncle starting in episode 8 so the distaste which viewers may have had for watching a recently deceased actor should fade very quickly. Three weeks of a single episode per week probably did not help ratings either.

MY DEAREST did not seem to suffer from the fact that people had to wait for a while for the second part to begin.

It's, so far, a well done weekender. It should get its ratings back (right?).

Next week will be crucial.

Strong Woman, wow, going strong.

Really hope LYOL does well next week, now that broadcast and cast issues are resolved.

I really like your last sentence about SWKNS going 💪.

While it is obviously riding on the coat-tails of SWDBS (which is perhaps reflective of the ratings), SWKNS by itself too is able to stand on its own legs and will probably be able to run soon.

The international fame and love that SWDBS received after the initial telecast is being upheld by its successor, a rare feat indeed

I think I dropped SWDBS and I am watching SWKNS as a completely independent show and I like it on its own tbh

Totally agree. Initial interest was because of SWDBS, but ultimately SWKNS has to be viewed as an independent show.

Why do I like Arthdal so much? Don't know but I am loving watching it. Lee Jun-ki is killing it in his double role as the twins even with that awful wig he has to wear. Not fond of all the killing but as it is a war, it happens and I think the Manchurians were that brutal so------.

JTBC is killing it this year. Did they get a new CEO or something? I'm happy for my favorite TV station, but the shows I like usually don't have high ratings.

7 Escape having such good ratings is making me curious about it, yay to The Kidnapping Day and I am surprised Nice Day to be a Dog has lower ratings than I expected, though looking how I myself was planning to skip it cuz of premise, maybe many middle aged people felt like me, lol

I wasn't expecting a lot for The Dog Show but it's always a little sad when the drama you're enjoying rakes in only a little ratings-wise. I'm not sure if the one-ep per week format is going to further harm its ratings or improve it, I'm guessing it might be the former 😢

Another recent addition to the long history of me saying I'm not going to watch a drama and then watching it - I was going to binge SWGNS but then I watched this weeks episodes because I was a bit bored and liked them a lot more than ep 1 & 2 - so I see where the ratings are coming from and for once I'm on the same page as the SK audience???

I am happy that Strong Girl Nam Soon is doing great in ratings. I enjoyed the show more this week.

LYOL and Kidnapping Day are also doing better.

I hope My Dearest will hit double digits soon!

With the way it's going I think we have to start worrying about considering the possibility of STRONG WOMAN3 and more... Never thought this premise had this much of franchise potential, but reality is weirder than any fiction indeed, SK general audience's preferences included.
