Yoo Seung-ho holds a friend hostage in The Deal

Would you sacrifice your friendship to obtain a cash cow? Upcoming 8-episode Wavve original The Deal features two down-on-their-luck protagonists who hatch a plan to kidnap their affluent college schoolmate — all in the name of a billion-won ransom.

Yoo Seung-ho (Moonshine) stars as Lee Joon-sung, an aspiring soccer player who lost his footing after his dreams went up in smoke. No longer able to run towards his goal, and no longer the star athlete at the center of attention, Joon-sung finds himself hopelessly adrift. Until one day, he finally has enough. Resolving to begin life anew, Joon-sung grits his teeth and musters his courage — and decides to kidnap his friend.

The idea didn’t materialize out of nowhere: Kim Dong-hwi (Missing: The Other Side 2) plays the main instigator Song Jae-hyo, who takes charge formulating their scheme. As a medical student, Jae-hyo thought he was set for life, but a crisis has him veering off his prestigious path. Desperate to crawl out of the trench he’s fallen into, Jae-hyo impulsively whips up a hostage conspiracy and recruits Joon-sung as his accomplice.

Their trussed-up hostage is Yoo Soo-bin (D.P. 2), playing the chaebol son Park Min-woo. As his family’s sole heir, he seems like the perfect sacrificial lamb for our kidnapper duo to earn a quick buck. However, Min-woo is far from a meek, hapless victim. Although Joon-sung and Jae-hyo take precautionary measures to cover their tracks, such as using a computer-generated voice to avoid recognition, Min-woo catches on quick. Calling out his buddies’ names, he confronts them directly — Min-woo’s not about to sit quietly by and let himself be exploited.

In addition, we’ll be treated to a special appearance by Lee Joo-young (Broker), who plays the aspiring police officer Cha Soo-ahn. For now, she seems unable to act in any official capacity, but perhaps this case will be just what she needs to prove her worth and secure her spot in the police force.

Helmed by PD Lee Jung-gon (Not Out) with scripts written by Hong Jong-sung, The Deal will be released via Wavve on October 6.

Special note to SML in The Lovely Liar - this is how you pain gaze. Look and learn.

I am all in on Waves THE DEAL. It is almost ready to air so VIKI US please pick this up as you have other recent Wavve dramas. An eight episode crime/mystery has to have tight writing and not much is known of the PD or writer. AsianWiki list the writer of the original webcomic Woo Nam 20 as writer of the drama series.
Credit to Yoo Seung-ho for choosing a part like this.

I was honestly expecting this to be a bit comedic from the premise but wow, it clearly is not AT ALL.

For Yoo Seung-ho’s sake I hope this is good!!!

Okay. This looks really, really good and I will probably check it out. Seems like there are no love triangles or squares, serial killers, people who see ghosts, or any other Trope we've been inundated with lately. It's just going to be good old, dark fun.

I stumbled on The Deal in Viki recently. It had slipped in under my radar, so I consider it a real find.

IMO the 8 episodes were well-paced and built on original (at least new to me) story lines. I became engaged with the 3 main characters early-on, together with various supporting characters.
Throughout the mostly unpredictable twists and turns of the story, the main characters stay consistent with personas built in our minds by the writer, director, and actors.

I recommend The Deal to those who like hard, edgy, sometimes grim, suspense dramas.
