Nam Ji-hyun leads new fantasy-thriller High Cookie
by tccolb
The first posters for U+ Mobile TV’s new fantasy-thriller High Cookie (previously Hi Cookie) are hot out of the oven, giving us our first look at Nam Ji-hyun (Little Women) and Jung Da-bin (Glitch), the two sisters at the heart of our story.
As LG’s debut drama for their streaming platform, we’re in for a poisonous tale about – you guessed it – mysterious cookies that have the power to fulfill your deepest desires. With their cheeky grins and home-baked aroma – not to mention the wishes granted – it doesn’t take long for a high school to get overtaken by a serious case of the munchies and the young Choi Min-young (Jung Da-bin) gets swallowed up in the dangerous chaos that ensues.
This then leads her sole guardian and older sister Choi Soo-young (Nam Ji-hyun) to embark on a rescue mission. From the young age of 18, Soo-young started working at a factory to become a breadwinner for their little family and she’s determined to protect Min-young at all costs – even if that price is her own life.
Although not yet featured, Choi Hyun-wook (Twinkling Watermelon) is still stuck in high school as fellow student Seo Ho-soo, who also comes from a struggling family. Although he studies hard and gets good grades, other students take advantage of his kindness and treat him like a pushover.
Rounding out our main foursome, we also have Kim Mu-yeol (Trolley) playing the school’s new admissions consultant Yoo Sung-pil. I’m not sure if he’s our cookie cutter villain, but he certainly smells fishy with his promise to students that he can ensure to make their dreams come true.
Directed by PD Song Min-yeop (Youth of May, Doctor Prisoner) with scripts by Kang Han, U+ Mobile TV’s High Cookie will be releasing next month on October 23.

No disrespect to NJH at all, but when did you start loving her? I’ve heard this sentiment from more than one Beanie, and I’d love to watch the thing that first made her catch your eye! I don’t have a lot of experience with her dramas.

Nam is one of many beloved child actors with whom some of us started our K-drama journey.
If you like sageuks, start with King Sejong the Great, Queen Seondeok, Warrior Baek Dong-soo, 100 Days My Prince, etc.
If sageuks is not your thing, start with Will It Snow for Christmas? Giant, Angel Eyes, What Happens to My Family? Etc.
She is one of the few child actors who transitioned well to an adult actor.

Oh, I've always liked her. I know there are some who don't, but I haven't seen her in drama where I haven't liked her.

As @kiara said, girl belongs to that one golden generation of child/teen actors we're really fond of to this very day, even despite all their struggles later in career. It's a sentimental thing more than anything, ok?
NJH in particular is also known for being good at creating romantic chemistry with her costars - something not many former child actors can pride themselves in. I'm not the huge fan of her adult works (many weird plots/weak dramas and she could've do more variety with her roles), but she's very shippable - still waiting for her reunion with PHS, in WHTMF weekender they shone brighter than winter sky stars together.

I'm also a fan because she's one of those child actresses I loved watching and watched her matured throughout the years. I think the drama that made me a big fan of her leading is Shopaholic Louis. However, I've watched almost 9 out of 10 of her dramas and I'd say she picks really good ones and is excellent in them.

Once again Choi Hyun Wook is stuck in high school. From racket boys to 25-21 to weak class hero to twinkling watermelon to this cookie show.
Graduate already.

😂 He's only 21, but he graduated from real-life HS four years ago. Compared to all those actors in their late 20s who are still getting cast as students, he's a mere pup.
The show sounds dark and weird, which is appealing, but we'll have to wait to see if it's available subbed on an accessible platform. I think U+ is only available in Korea or via VPN.

Lee yubi is playing a high school student in Rescue of the 7 and she's 32. He should play one for as long as he can.

I hope the cookies don’t become sentient. Just imagine the hallucinations on top of the munchies!

Expect to see Choi Hyun-wook in high school for years to come.
HIGH COOKIE will be a pass for me but I will get my CHW fix in the tvN’s upcoming TWINKLING WATERMELON (Viki US-Thanks Viki).
O/T. Poor Seo Young-joo at age 25 continues to be cast as a high school student. I am watching him play a high school student right now in SBS’s THE KILLING VOTE (Prime Video). In the age department he is beat in TKV by Kwon Ah-rheum who at age 27 is also playing a high school student.
(I am convinced there is a child labor law on the books in SK that prohibits real life high school kids from portraying high school kids in televised dramas.)

From what I know, it's not exactly prohibited per se, or we won't be seeing this many teen idols out there lol. But there are lots of strict regulations for such cases that don't work well with typical kdrama harsh filming schedule, making it simply more efficient for most productions to cast actors who already graduated at least.
