Falling for Park Kyu-young’s puppylike charms in new teaser

The first teaser for MBC’s rom-com webtoon adaptation A Good Day to Be a Dog has dropped, giving us a look at the ever-adorable Park Kyu-young (Celebrity) and her attempts to win over Cha Eun-woo (Island).

Han Hae-na (Park Kyu-young) is no different from your average girl working your average high school teacher job, with the tiny difference that she is cursed to turn into a dog every night from the hours of 12AM – 6AM after her first kiss. Needless to say, this has stopped her from getting it on in the romance department for quite some time: 28 years in fact. But when a drunken kiss with her fellow teacher Jin Seo-won (Cha Eun-woo) activates her curse, she now has to figure out how to get Seo-won to kiss her in her dog form (the only way to break the curse) when he has a gigantic fear of dogs.

The teaser opens with a little introduction to Hae-na: she’s spunky, loves to grab drinks with her coworkers, and dogs are obsessed with her — like, coming to her in droves obsessed. But as lovable as she is, the only person immune to her charms is Seo-won, who responds to all of her advances with a glare and a quick exit. She is flabbergasted at how he could possibly not like her: “I’m kind of ridiculously cute.” To which we cut to his deadpan response, “Is that supposed to be a question?”

Thankfully for her, it looks like Seo-won feels more than what he lets on. After a close moment under an umbrella, he shares in the voiceover, “I’m not avoiding you because I don’t like you… please don’t misunderstand.” And there goes the green light for Hae-na to jump into her first relationship.

Oh no, but what’s that? Ominous music? We end the teaser on a drunken Cha Eun-woo searching the streets for Hae-na, only to find a white dog peeking at him from around the corner. In disbelief, he asks, “Hae-na?” Dog-form Hae-na looks back at him sheepishly. Yup, that’s her. Let the curse shenanigans begin.

Written by Baek In-ah and directed by Kim Dae-woong (Start Up The Engine), A Good Day to Be a Dog will premiere on October 11 on MBC.

The vibe looks really similar to the webcomic, so here's hoping this will just be a sweet, fluffy romcom!

Fingers crossed.

Problem arises only when drama writers think they can "improve" the original work.

I hope Park Kyuyoung will be a treat to watch but what do you think of Cha Eunwoo’s casting as Seowon? IIRC, you’ve read the story.
And, the dog looks like a CGI one in the last pic. I wish the manhwa had gone with a beagle. I just love them.

I've read it several times! Tbh I'm not thrilled about Cha Eun-woo's casting. I am worried he'll read too young next to PGY (this is not a noona romance), he's too close in real life age to Yul, who is supposed to be much younger, and I'm also worried won't bring nuance to Seo-won. I would have preferred someone who can emote a lot, like Yoon Hyun-min would have been perfect. I'm worried that the 2ML, who is a much more exuberant personality will outshine him and people will get 2ML syndrome at first.

I'm learning though that comic adaptations NEVER seem to cast actors for the male lead that I myself would choose. Like I also had reservations about ABY in 19th Life

Buuut I'm choosing to be cautiously optimistic. PGY seems to read a similar age to him in the trailer and a lot of people think his acting has greatly improved. If nothing else, he'll be pleasant to look at, 😂

Come on, man, I thought we're finally past "CEW playing extremely cold and reserved ML" era! Such typecast is his nemesis, he can be kinda fun in livelier roles, why regressing back to that again?

Oh, and the hairstyle/color of FLs needs to go. At least don't give it every second actress this year!

They really insist on keeping Lee Hye's female leads' hair color the same as the comic and idk why

Color alone is salvageable, but coupled with this hairstyle...

This color and hairstyle on FLs is going to be the thing that, looking back from the future, instantly tags any drama as being from circa 2023 in the same way that shaggy auburn perm on an ML dates a show to circa 2017. It will not wear well.

Heavens, those perms! *tries hard to unsee*

Ooh, that was me in 2022 watching JBL and falling for certain auburn-permed fella *despite* his haircut. Good lord if anything can make Junho look bad. 😂

8

Whatever babes ... I love me some Junho.

4

@seeker I might have claimed a greater right since I fell for him despite his hair in JBL, but after KTL, you can have him. 😜

5

Hee hee ... actually I fell for Junho in JBL ... was unable to finish KTL as my Netflix (helpfully) keeps reminding me from time to time. I also get notifications to watch JBL again 🤣

Yeah, it's also her hairstyle in the comic. They tried to keep the same aesthetic which... doesn't always work

Cha Eun-woo was fun in Hit the Top which was way back in 2017 and he was still a baby faced pimply 20 year old. I loved his pouty but cute character MJ. Yes, please let him play some fun character that let him smile.

That is the original hair color of FLs in both webtoons ... so that is that. Tricky color to pull off but the stylists have done a good job. Park Kyu-young has never looked cuter ... and I thought she could never look cuter than in Dali with another Hit the Top star - Kim Min-jae.

I first saw him in HIT THE TOP/THE BEST HIT too, and maybe this is the reason I don't hate his objectively limited acting as most people do. He was hilarious there parodying the hell out of his top idol persona and felt organic in a role that wasn't front and center of the main plot. ISLAND worked for me likely for the same reason - he wasn't ML and he was allowed to be funny/quirky. Is it too late to give him more expressive comedy scenes here?

PKY is pretty cute in general, but I still don't think this hairdo ever worked properly on any k-actress other than PBY in SWDBS. And even she looks way better without it...

oh they CGI'ed her dog form..........

Quite on the fence about it as I know working with real dogs is difficult and might extend their production time so I'm just hoping it wouldn't look too weird or campy :')

Aside from that I'm really looking forward to this drama! EEEEEEEEK

Since the dog is likely to have a romantic arc (!!) with CEW better to use a cgi version.
If they can click dragons then this should be a ball in the park ... literally did you see those bts videos with a tennis ball atop a green stick passing off as a dragon?

* Cgi dragons.

Also don't get me started on those mechanical bull type atrocities for Daenerys' flying on a dragon scenes.

Omg true! When I was watching the show I was like "why this girl is so stiff and awkward when she is riding these beautiful beasts tsk tsk tsk" then I saw the BTSs and I was like "wow how this girl can maintain a straight face and not laughing her head off with these ridiculous green balls on a stick"

To be fair Jon Snow may not know anything but at least he rode the dragons little better ... maybe live (on GOT) and learn.

Tbh I'm not a fan of CEW acting but even with zero experience and acting skill I really enjoyed "gangnam beauty" and his character, now he improved a lot (probably) so I think I can manage if the show is interesting enough,
And I like the FL from "celebrity" so I'm looking forward to see beanies take on this show
*yes I am a coward so I don't really start a show if everyone think it sucks I just start shows that have a good feedback especially in romcoms I don't start one in my own because it's not my favourite genre and I can't finish 70 percent of romcoms ppl think they are good*
And is it just me or this show gives "cheese in the trap" vibes? The color palate and lead characters....hummmm

"cheese in the trap" - was a @$#show. They definitely wronged our Park Hae-jin.

Source material for A Good Day seems promising... so fingers crossed.

Yes I was so in love with the show but it just got downward in a couple of last episodes and become so confusing, I don't even remember how it ended tbh
Looking forward to this one

I think it's fascinating that Cheese in the Trap essentially turned the 2ML into the ML and vice-versa. I would be SO mad if I had been a fan of the comic.

Oh yea. I really liked Gangnam beauty and he was fine there. I also liked him in Rookie historian. There were some scenes (talking to the king, his father) where he brought some emotional depth to that scene. He is not a great actor for sure but he is fine in certain roles. So I hope that’s the case here.

I don't know what it is but I can't root for Cha Eun Woo as the male lead in anything 😭. I can't even bring myself to watch anything he's the main character in. Which is a shame, because this looks okay enough to at least check out the first episode. And I love Park Kyu-young.
