My Lovely Liar: Episodes 1-2
by mistyisles
It’s here! It’s fun, it’s mysterious, it’s oh so pretty — My Lovely Liar is off to a strong start with instantly likeable characters and an intriguing story about a human lie detector and a man harboring a dark secret. Deftly balancing humor and heart, these first couple of hours just seem to fly by.
EPISODES 1-2
When we first meet our heroine, MOK SOL-HEE (Kim So-hyun), she’s in the early days of her career as the “Liar Hunter”: a human lie detector for hire. As such, she sniffs out the traitor among a gang boss’s henchmen — and it’s not one of the guys he’s got dangling over the side of an abandoned building. Sol-hee convinces the boss to at least spare the traitor’s life, so naturally said traitor comes after her for revenge.
Sol-hee flees and hops on the next bus to Seoul, which is inconveniently delayed by a disruption involving another passenger who’s accused of cheating on his ex-girlfriend who has gone missing. He insists he didn’t, and Sol-hee stands up for him — she knows he’s telling the truth, and anyway she needs the bus to move now so she can escape.
Then we jump ahead five years to the present day. Sol-hee has expanded her practice and her wealth. She now runs a “Tarot Café” with a couple of employees. It’s the same kind of lie-hunting work, but involves an even bigger paycheck and often a bit of acting. Like posing as a wealthy woman’s cousin to ascertain whether her young lover is honest or a gold digger (he’s cheating with the maid, and it’s a fabulously entertaining cameo by Kim Sun-young and Lee Tae-sun that also demonstrates how people can confuse Sol-hee’s powers by lying through omission).
Officially, Sol-hee claims she got her powers via a shamanistic ritual. In actuality, her mother prayed to every deity she could think of while pregnant, and presumably at least one of them answered. But whatever the source, hearing someone lie sets off literal alarm bells in Sol-hee’s eardrums. Small wonder she avoids having much of a social life.
As for the guy from the bus, he’s now known as award-winning composer KIM DO-HA (Hwang Min-hyun), but his name and music are pretty much all people know about him. He never leaves the house without a mask, never makes public appearances, and only communicates with a select few individuals. As a result, there are wild speculations about a double life (and now I’m going to need a show with Min-hyun as an actual secret agent, please and thank you).
Do-ha’s only friends are singer SHA-ON (Lee Si-woo), who’d like to be much more than friends, and JO DEUK-CHAN (Yoon Ji-on), CEO of the entertainment company Sha-on is signed to. Troubles arise for the trio when Sha-on is photographed outside Do-ha’s apartment complex. She was there to drop off his Best Composer trophy, but it’s instantly spun into a dating scandal. Deuk-chan provides Do-ha with an out of the way vacation home to crash in for a while, not-so-secretly hoping the fresh air and privacy will coax Do-ha out of his shell.
The thing is, Do-ha has good reason for his reclusive habits. The ex-girlfriend who disappeared has never been found, and Do-ha was arrested on murder charges, which ultimately fell through for lack of evidence — but not before Do-ha was thoroughly traumatized by the experience and stabbed in the back by the missing girl’s brother. We don’t know exactly what happened that fateful day on the beach, but Do-ha still suffers blood-soaked nightmares about it, and even his mother seems to harbor doubts about his innocence.
The missing girl’s brother, on the other hand, has zero doubts. He’s spent the past five years impersonating police officers to get his hands on the case files, determined to hunt Do-ha down. His arrest finally gives us one tiny glimpse of Seo Ji-hoon as police officer LEE KANG-MIN, who’s sympathetic toward the brother’s grief, but firm about the limits of the law.
Do-ha’s new neighborhood comes with pros and cons. On the first night, Do-ha is mistaken for a local rapist because of his all-black outfit and late-night walks. Fortunately for him, though, this is Sol-hee’s neighborhood, and she quickly identifies the actual offender. Recognizing her catchphrase (“If I say it’s so, it is”), Do-ha realizes she’s the same girl who defended him on the bus.
Even better, it turns out they’re next-door neighbors here. They also happen to be superfans of rival soccer teams, leading to an adorable sequence where they’re both up at 3 a.m. alternating cheering and groaning on opposite sides of the wall, occasionally directing their voices at each other rather than their respective screens.
Not long after Do-ha moves, another composer uses Sha-on’s scandal to blackmail Deuk-chan into arranging a meeting between him and Do-ha. He’s convinced Do-ha plagiarized his song, so he hires Sol-hee to hide in an adjoining room and signal whether Do-ha tells the truth. To his fury, Do-ha doesn’t lie even once, and hasn’t even heard the song in question.
Sol-hee’s disgust with the composer skyrockets as he pressures Do-ha into drinking and it becomes clear that he’s the actual plagiarizer. The final straw is when he sprays Do-ha with soda as an excuse to sneak a photo of Do-ha’s face. Sol-hee quickly snaps a photo with her own phone so the sound will warn Do-ha of the composer’s true intentions.
Since she’s only ever seen him masked and casually dressed, Sol-hee doesn’t realize who Do-ha is until she comes home to find him drunk out of his wits outside their apartment building. Even though she’s just angrily watched someone else repeatedly violate Do-ha’s boundaries — not to mention kicked her own bodyguard out of the car for trying to follow Do-ha and lying about it — she can’t resist unmasking him, and he wakes up just as she does.
I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed with Sol-hee for removing Do-ha’s mask without his consent, but I loved pretty much everything else about this premiere. We’ve had lots of K-dramas about people with special abilities working as con artists to various degrees of moral grayness, and in some ways that’s what Sol-hee’s job feels like. But she’s actually more of an anti-con-artist, catching people in their lies and stopping them from taking advantage of others.
And then there’s Do-ha, who gives off “way too innocent for his own good” vibes, but has a lot more to him than meets the eye. I died laughing when the girl at the jazz bar took off his sunglasses and he immediately whipped out a backup pair. I don’t believe he murdered his ex, though I like that there’s just enough room for a smidgen of doubt. And while something awful definitely happened on that beach, I just want him to always be surrounded by good, caring people like Deuk-chan, that jazz bar drummer, and Sol-hee, who stands up for him when no one else will listen.
But if I weren’t already in love with the characters and the way their stories are becoming intertwined, I might just be hooked on this show for the visuals alone. And I don’t only mean the cast — the contrast of warm and cool colors is just gorgeous. If the rest of the show follows this week’s lead, I think we’re in for an enthralling good time.

Thanks @mistyisles for this recap that captured the (for me) surprising appeal of these episodes. While the trauma exhibited by the ML borders on the irrational (driving a Maserati while wearing a black mask and black hoodie? Totally inconspicuous, especially when you switch the blue Maserati out for a black one! I almost lost him on my screen after that!)
However l love the musician composer angle, especially the jazz club appearance. And the matter of fact super powered female lead is very attractive as a character as well.
I like it that while there is no possibility the ML is guilty, enough signs point to him that the honest detective will be suspicious. Probably, given the fact that he is a policeman, he will be some sort of secondary love interest.
Anyway, a good start!

I was surprised too! I’ve not cared so much so quickly about a whole cast of characters in a really long time. Never mind a “four episode grace period,” I was hooked by about minute 5.

This was indeed unexpectedly zippy and fun. I like the pacing and the premise, the setup and our leads, esp. Sol-hee. I know folks are going to be upset she violated ML's privacy (and rightly so), but given her overall goodness, I'm going to let it pass as a momentary weakness for now. Next episodes, pls.
If I wasn't so exhausted by just spamming on the Heartbeat recaps, I'd say more. But I have a feeling fellow Beanies are going to be all over this one. Looking forward to the takes.

Thanks @mistyisles for the weecap. I am so happy this is not a dark drama as darkness has prevented me watching quite a few dramas this year. I am hopeful I can watch this to the end as it is quite entertaining. Let’s hope we don’t get any more boundaries crossed by the female lead as it did seem unnecessary for her to take advantage after all she had done to protect him prior to this event.
I think the male leads former girlfriend was self harming to convince him to stay with her and it went wrong. I am interested to see why he didn’t seek help at the time and if she actually died why her body wasn’t found. I really hope the final conclusion leads to the body or the sister being alive but in a mental state where she could not disclose her identity but the full story being told without any doubts. The brother could then get closure and therapy as he is currently over the edge to be literally banging his head due to his sheer frustration.
I like the main characters so far. I can’t believe they only way to show their level of wealth is to have them all drive Maserati cars as they are quite rare cars in most countries. I wonder whether the people in the market to buy a Maserati are likely to watch K dramas. At least when Mini, Audi or Hyundai show their top spec cars the range also has some affordable versions.

Kdramas these days have global audience due to streaming services. Maybe the luxury PPLs are to attract international audience than the local ones.

I agree the International market is huge so companies are latching on to the ‘free advertising’. Here in the UK the cheapest car in the range is nearly £60k that makes it exclusive and I assume people with that kind of spending money rarely watch tv as a pass time. I may of course be wrong. I don't have a tv any more and know a lot of people who have stopped watching tv. I only started watching shows again on my iPad because I needed distractions while rowing. I started on subtitled films Bollywood (I love musicals) then the epic multi season Chinese dramas popped up then Korean and the rest is history.

Yeah, people who do not depend on their monthly salary would prefer spending their time on more productive stuff. Even in Kdramas they rarely show rich people/chaebols watching TV, except for news. The only exception I can remember was the Harabeoji in "Business Proposal".

I am currently on an online Business Mastermind in the Canadian timezone and in the intro to one of the sessions they asked us to say something people would not know about us and I straight away said I am into K drama as I am always searching for my K drama family internationally.

The PPL for the Maserati is not so much, I don't think, with the expectation that the target audience of the drama will also be the target buying audience of the car, or even that it will *reach* the target buying audience, so much as it is advertisement for the brand itself.
It's not about selling Maseratis, it's about flagshipping the brand by sponsoring something that is going to get a lot of views.
There's advertisement with the intent to sell you something, and trying to get you, the average person to buy (The Almonds, for e.g. are closer to this), and there's advertisement that is shiny promotional material for a global brand. It's buying a place in your brain, in your thoughts; *that*, they can target everyone for, even more so than they target the people with the wallets and garages to buy a place in also.
It's propping up the brand image essentially. They don't actually expect and have never expected the average person to be the buyers of their top or near top of the line cars.

Maserati = how much he earns as a music writer/producer. He's loaded :p The conclusion is the ML is very talented in his job.
The result won't be the same if they showed us him driving a Mini or Hyundai. For the Audi, I guess it would depend on the model.

For ordinary people who aren't into cars, I'd say the name Maserati does ring a bell as one of the most expensive luxurious cars. Even with the top models of Audi or Mini wouldn't have the same effect.

I feel like you see Maserati (or other high end luxury cars) in Chinese dramas more often than in Korean dramas but maybe that’s just the particular dramas I’ve watched. But as @emsel said, maybe the luxury PPLs are for the global audience.

I agree luxury cars are front and centre with a lot of dramas but for me it is like they have an exclusivity clause that only their brand can be shown. I thought they usually have different characters driving different brands. Maybe I just didn’t notice brand exclusivity before because the cars are often debadged and have been within the group so they can showcase cars across the price range to highlight the status differences between the characters.

Thanks for the recap! I'm narratively okay with Sol-hee removing his mask (it's fine for characters to have flaws and it's interesting that we've already seen some mention that Sol-hee can't hear her own lies) but I wish they hadn't given it the romantic-cliffhanger treatment. The drama's just spent two episodes treating people trying to remove his mask as a violation. The sudden switch to romance coding just weirded me out. And with this much fuss over a face mask, I might have to assume this is a world where covid never happened lol
But that's all a minor complaint in my books. This ended up being lighter and funnier than I expected and I'm very much enjoying it. The soccer match bit was delightful— it was cute and funny and I also liked that it showed that Do-ha is more than his anxiety and trauma. I'm looking forward to seeing the leads cross paths more often

She verbally struggled with the decision whether or not to reveal “the man behind that black mask” quite effectively, I thought. She didn’t want to be super-lame giving into her curiosity, but in the end, couldn’t help it. It will be narratively important, both her ambivalence and her eventual action, I bet!

Yeah I think so too. It feels like it was the first time Sol-hee was actually curious about something and frankly I don't think she fully understands the concept of boundaries. She believes that she alone 'knows' what is right and wrong because she can hear lies so her actions to know the 'truth' or expose others can't be wrong.

It was very chaotic with the plot goind in all directions with the music world, her fantastic powers and a police investigation.
The ML's behavior makes things way more obvious than discret.
The FL needs to change her driver. He's a danger on the roads and he damaged a very expensive car just to take a picture... I wonder why she will do with her gold. She lives in an apartment.
I hope we will see more of Ji-Hoon in the next episodes!

I agree the role fits him quite well and to be honest we haven't really met Do-ha yet. The recluse side of him is an after-effect of his traumatic past but I have feeling original Do-ha (or whatever his real name is) would have been a bright, clumsy young boy who loves music and having friends and playing in a band and whatnot.

I agree with you.
He is pretty (as any other kdrama actor, not exceptionnal) and quite bland.
I do not remember who said that in this drama he looks like his AoS character lost in the modern world, but I totally agree. So far he has the same "very morally clean, uptight and timid" personna. That's fine, but lacking for a lead.

I didn’t love it as much as the others. I enjoyed parts of it.
I truly hated all the privacy violations. The lady in the bar removing his sunglasses, the senior music composer trying to remove his glass or take his picture and then our FL taking off his mask. Even the cutie body guard had to stalk the car.
I am hoping things settle down in the next two episodes.

I have mixed feelings re Min-Hyun. I only clicked on the show cos of @attiton's recommendation so I didn't know what I was getting into. And I thought, hey, it's that cute kid from AoS. No, really. Because he played this character quite close to the character in AoS. Is that just who he is?
That said, his memo probably was to play a quiet, introverted, repressed character. And that he did. Granted, there are deeper ways to play this, but it was fine. Let's see how he opens up to portray a greater range.

I didn't see any emotions on his face, also didn't help he had a mask or sunglass on most of the times. At times it felt like its just a photo moving on my frame. I get it not everyone has to have exaggerated expressions, but the scenes where it was just him felt very bland to me, like he couldn't own that scene. I will def give it another 2 episodes to see if things change as he becomes relaxed in his new environment. For a romcom to work (for me) I need to feel both the leads and see a working chemistry between the two.

I’m alright so far with the way he’s been playing the character. I think there’s a certain charm to his Kim Doha which will be enough to pull in some viewers, but I guess we’ll have to see if he can pull off the heavier scenes once they get into his past and his trauma.
I have actually watched some behind the scenes and interviews of this drama. Surprisingly, he’s an extrovert, albeit a calm one. From what they’ve released so far, apparently he’s the mood maker. So I guess that’s just how he’s been briefed to play the character so far, but I agree there are more ways he can go about portraying a reclusive and traumatized character. I think it shows his inexperience.

I enjoyed these 2 episodes. For WHYYYYY though is Seo Ji Hoon playing second fiddle again. The sunglasses and mask are in fact more conspicuous than inconspicuous, so weird plot point. However I really enjoy the fact that they have soccer in common, most kdramas don't offer commonality as a part of a foundation for a relationship, so I love that for them. It is actually better that they like opposing teams.
Also I assume the ex-girlfriend isn't dead because they haven't found the body. I bet she just ran away somewhere. Also I bet he thinks he killed her because he failed her somehow(rolls eyes). lol
I look forward to the rest of the drama though and more shenanigans.

Let’s have a jolly twisty-turny plot with lots of swoony misunderstandings, and a side of sports rivalry. Unlike BTLIOF, though, where our OTP shared the love of a single team, I am not sure how they writers will get over this soccer/football rivalry hurdle without, well, I guess, um…shenanigans. Well, to me Minhyun feels like he actually is a very quiet person, so I understand that some find him dull, but that’s what I like about him, quiet personality but still chose to be an idol, he does have certain vulnerability about him, which appeals to my motherly instincts or something, lol, I just clicked on the drama, had no idea what it was and then baaam, I see Minhyun, I was surprised and started watching, in general, I am not as obsessed with So Hyun as everyone seems to be, so I am actually the only one watching for Minhyun

This was such a great recap. I've been waiting for this drama since Kim so-hyun has been gone for far too long and the opening scenes were absolutely fabulous and utterly hilarious. Both episodes were superbly paced and introduced us to an eclectic community of characters we will both love and hate in various ways. Its so colorful and fun right off the bat and just plain fun. Every character caught my interest for different reasons and I'm here for the whole journey.
I especially loved Sol-hee not for the boss lady vibe she has going as she takes down every scheming liar (which is going to be an uphill task honestly) but for the quiet vulnerabilities under her tough demeanor (talking to the fish, waiting for a selca from her dad). Do-ha on the other hand seems quite, shy and withdrawn but I see an eccentric genius who's clumsy, loves music and performing for other people (and all the hiding behind masks/glasses must be heartbreaking for someone who enjoys being on stage). The two are both similar and different in many ways but their common love of football (albeit different teams but hey there's always the National Team to cheer for) and self-imposed solitude makes for an interesting story telling. One character I felt did not get enough time these episodes was Kang-min who I would like to see more of and how his and Sol-hee's relationship fell apart. The J-entertainment CEO is a hoot and hoping he'll stay the good guy till the end. Shaon intrigued me despite the obvious clingy second lead plot and I'm looking forward to her and the cute bodyguard having their own interactions next episode (talk about a successful fan).
The best scene for me was the one between Sol-hee and her mother. Wish we get more of that because the actresses had amazing chemistry. I could watch an entire spin-off with them bickering.
Overall, finally a drama to pull me out of my Kdrama slump even though I would watch anything and everything with Kim so-hyun but this was still an incredibly fun watch and I can't wait to see the romance blossom in full. The chemistry between Hwang min-hyun and Kim so-hyun already has me completely hooked.

I loved Sol-hee and mum's interaction as well. I want more. I loved the mum's backstory as well with all that praying. At first, I thought, how very feminist. Then, oh, she just wants a meal ticket. Ha. That did make me wonder tho how she let her daughter with such talent get away. I'm sure we're gonna get a good back story.

Betting there is an entire backstory about how her super power isolated her from everyone she cares about because even white lies must hurt for her. Honestly the whole liar detector premise is so interesting because its not like people can't always tell when someone is lying. Many a times we know they aren't being honest but as long as it isn't some major lie one just ignores all the fake niceties as being normal small talk. For Sol-hee she doesn't understand how this pretense is a normal part of social interaction since her ears keep ringing and the splitting headache she must have from all that ringing makes it hard for accept any kind of lie. Which makes it uncomfortable for the other person who needs to be honest in front of her all the time or walk on egg shells around her afraid of 'lying' by mistake. I'm really excited to know all her backstory because it is such an interesting concept.

I like this so far. I am, however, a bit nervous because this writer also wrote Let Me Be Your Knight, a drama that I LOVED but let me down horribly in terms of the ending. I have never been more bitterly disappointed by a drama in my life. However, I am trying to be cautiously optimistic. Speaking of, this writer seems to love songwriters and sleep disorders.
I really like how this drama is showcasing the compatibility of the leads before they've even properly met. The soccer rivalry is especially adorable.

I really liked the first ep. nothing much to say about it personally but I had lots of fun. But here is what I sent my friends watching the second episode:
ep. 2: The opening animations are so cute. I like how she knocks on his world and they leave together, it's sweet. metaphor and all that. English teachers would be proud.
Bro what is going on with the walls in his new unit bro... Why is there an outline of a person on it?? did someone get raptured in this apartment....
this ajumma offered PPL to a wild woodland creature... also, nothing to do with the drama, but do elk have such sharp teeth IRL??? bro out here looking a four-footed vampire
They really left him to be mauled by a mutant elk then. huh.
idk if it's supposed to be, but I found it funny when that patron ripped off his sunglasses... And he turned back with a second pair of sunglasses. imagine if they make that a running gag, where ppl keep ripping off his sunglasses/mask, but it turns out he has an infinite number of them in his designer jackets...
Ok hear me out... Manager Hyung kinda cute. he looked like a self-satisfied cat holding the bags of almonds lmao
Also her dancing when her team won was also adorable. someone gif that.
I love how they blurred the match and the Liverpool logos but Manchester United logos are fine.
NOOOOO
HOW SHE COULD PULL OFF HIS MASK... He didn't consent... feels like a huge invasion of privacy somehow
I KNEW IT... The cop guy is gonna be her crush or ex or something. Love triangle time. I also knew the SFL would get paired with the driver... when she should be dating me instead.
I gotta wait another week for new episodes T-T

I was waiting for someone to mention the elk. That was so bizarre and hilarious. I googled it. It wasn't clear but it sounds like they can be dangerous. Tho that one looked rabid, zombiefied, or something. LOL. And yeah, they just left him with it! That's quite a punishment for attempted real estate fraud.

Elk is moose, right? But moose are very large. This one seems like a deer to me. Anyway, I found the way they made the moose open its mouth and roar to threaten that con man funny. It actually reminded me of the Boar in Bride of Habaek. (I wonder if @leetennant will be interested in this one by the mentioning of the Boar.) They are quite peaceful unless they are charged. Then, they are very dangerous.

It's a Water Deer as @captainlaika identified and a CGI one at that.
Them identifying it wrong was I think part of the point. (Or, I hope it was lmao.)
Moose are not Elk either, although they're sometimes called that in Europe for some reason.
And Elk and Moose are both still deer. 😂

It's interesting they went with elk, I'm pretty sure it's actually a water deer! They actually do have tusks and are a vulnerable species (which makes more sense with the greenbelt real estate fraud). They're not carnivorous but that particular one seemed pretty vindictive lol

Is it the same noisy, toothy deer that kept interrupting the leads in It's Okay to Not Be Okay? The conservationist in me wanted to yell at the ahjumma for offering it human food. The kdrama watcher in me rolled my eyes at the lengths to which this show will go for PPL.

Thanks for the weecap, @mistyisles!
I'd say this show brought back so many good feelings I had when I watch older Kdramas. There is something about his one that struck a cord with me. The cameos were fun to watch, and we saw a lot of familiar faces whose characters we loved in other older dramas (e.g., FL's mother is Nurse Oh in Romantic Doctor, one man talking to the eco of the agency the ML is signed to is one of the managers in Romantic Doctor, the tarot reader whom FL works with is a funny character from Touch Your Heart). The opening sequence was intriguing to say the very least; even I who isn't into any thriller was completely hooked by how cool the FL was with the gang members. This show brings a bit of Sh**ting Stars feels to me, and I'm thrilled to see how it fares.
And yes to the colors used in the show! The FL wears lovely clothes (and the styling is chef's kiss) and the ML basic-color ones. Even with basic clothes and a face mask or sunglasses on, the ML stood out so much because of his good look and celebrity aura.
Excited for next week's eps!

Glad someone mentioned the styling. I was wondering if it would be weird to comment about how much I loved all the outfits in this drama. The entire look she had in the last part of episode 2 (the pantsuit and lace blouse) was gorgeous and Kim so-hyun looked amazing in it. I even loved the outfit Cassandra was wearing in the chase scene in episode 1 (so pretty). Minhyun's entire look in the lift scene was so casual comfy and he looked so soft and cute. Great job by the style teams.

I was interested in this drama, but didn't have high expectations or ideas about the tone. It managed to be quite fun and funny. Colorful scenes, varied characters. And the premiere gave an adequate intro of the characters & story. Loved the funny cameos!
There were small, sometimes subtle moments and one-liners that cracked me up like the lady carrying her beer while out with everyone to chase after the neighborhood rapist. And Park Kyung Hye's framed photo on the wall. She acted the part of the mysterious tarot shopkeeper well. Glad to see her here.
The soccer sequence was fun. It was nice to see Do Ha showing other emotions like excitement! His personality is quiet and reserved. Thankfully, he's not giving cold, haughty producer vibes.
The only misstep was Sol Hee taking off his mask, violating his privacy. I thought she wouldn't do it even after chiding herself. I guess the curiosity got her. I hope they address this issue in the next episode and she shows some remorse.
Off-topic, random note: I like NU'EST and their songs a lot, but I was surprised at Min Hyun's deep voice. I admit I can't recognize his singing voice yet, but he doesn't sound that deep in their songs. XD
& the bodyguard is cute!

Yes! I noticed that lady taking her beer with her out when all of them were running at the cry of "Fire"! I thought he was gonna throw the beer to the fire to stop it. 🤣
And yes to Park Kyung-hye (thanks for giving me her name). She is very charismatic on screen. With her unique facial features, it's likely she would shine in any role in any drama. And yes, I love her portrait (and the fact that it gets the FL every time) on the wall. So funny.

It really feels like we're off to the races with these two episodes - they were a lot of fun, with more complex characters and plot set-up than I expected. I need a series-within-the-series of Do-ha's secret agent adventures, because that imagined fight sequence with him as an NIS agent was brilliant.
The mother/daughter scene was well-played in isolation but it kind of triggered me as it looks like Jin Kyung reprising her role as the FL’s scamming parasitical mother with expensive tastes from Love in Contract and I found that character exhausting. I hope she can bring something different to this fast so I don't have to FF all her scenes. And like everyone else, I didn't like Sol-hee removing Do-ha's mask, but it might be OK if if they play it as a reason for him to hold back on trusting her as much as he initially seemed inclined to do.
Monday, come faster!

I don't understand the "lie of omission" and how that confuses her ability. No lie detector would pick up on something not said. So because he didn't say "I'm cheating with a servant", that counts as confusing her powers?
All I can see is the invasions of privacy so I don't think this is a show for me. I don't find it cute that the singer lied her way into his house and led paparazzi to his place. Yeah, she didn't *know* she was being followed but she didn't need to go there in the first place. And then the "he likes me; he just doesn't know it" made me 🙄😒.
And I don't trust blackmailers in stories (or in general but I digress) so all I could think was that producer guy will still release the recording anyway because he's jerk (to put it nicely)
I think I'll just read the weecap of the final week to find out what happened with the ex girlfriend.

Oh, see, that our FL cannot perceive "lies of omission" was the comment of @mistyisles that made the greatest impression on me! I'm completely on board with this being not only key, but very, very insightful.
I should preface my comments by telling y'all that I am the absolute worst liar in the entire world. It's actually ridiculous how bad I am at it. My face, my voice, my body language, my sudden inability to form sentences properly, much less look you in the eye--I just can't do it. The people around me find it endearing. You can imagine why.
So with that said, I feel like I am super-aware of pretty much every bodily reaction to telling an untruth possible because I've felt them all as a conscious thing, and have been called out on pretty much each and every one them with a certain degree of delighted aggression. Yes, I'm telling you that sometimes I still try to tell fibs, even though I've had decades of failure and discomfort teaching me that I should not do it.
OK. What I'm getting as is, even when I am not actively saying something to convince someone else that I am being truthful when I am not--that is when I am telling a lie of omission--I feel maybe 45-55% of all the normal "IAMLYINGSTOPSTOPSTOP" feelings.
Our FL could sniff this out no problem if what she's sensing is my intent to mislead. What I think that @mistyisles has noted is that she's hearing something directly in the sounds of the words, not in the mind or body of the speaker. So, if they don't say it, she can't perceive it.
This would also jibe with the fact that her power doesn't work over the phone or the internet or whatevs.
This all said, I'm also ready for the rules of this universe to be silly and somewhat nonsensical. They needn't obey my own horrible experience of trying to say something I don't fully believe. Heavens. My face is flushed just thinking about doing it.

I didn't love it but I didn't hate it.
The FL is good and has that certain something but the ML seemed a bit flat and boring. I don't know if this is the actor or the character and his plot line so far.
I will watch the next two episodes to see.
Wearing a black hoodie/mask and wandering around the neighbourhood looking shifty is becoming repetitive. Something very similar was last seen a few months ago in Crash Course for Romance, Sun-Jae's (Min-gi from 19th Life) brother was a recluse in his room from the pressure of studying. He would go out wandering the neighbourhood dressed the same and we were made to think he was bad but all he did was feed the stray cats. No doubt this will be the same bait and switch.

It was a good start. Nicely paced, fun, and with great visuals. I was intrigued by the similarities of the leads. Both running from something, fraught mother relations, and a lonely existence with few personal connections. I´m wishing the show goes in the direction where the "lie gong" will not work with ML, forcing Sol-hee to navigate a relationship in a brand new (for her) dynamic.

I knew I would like this show the minute I saw one of the trailers. I’ve been missing shows like this for a while, so I hope it stays consistent until the end. *fingers crossed*
For me, episode 1 felt like they tried to include a lot of stuff to attract viewers so it was a bit rocky, but the 2nd episode was just lovely. The colors remind me of the rom coms I’ve come to love before, and the gags don’t feel forced and still makes sense in the context of the story. I also like the different relationship dynamics that they have shown so far. Specifically, I’m really looking forward to seeing more interaction between the ML and the jazz bar drummer. I hope they also dig into how ML and Syaon started in the industry. From the photograph they’ve shown I feel like this has an interesting story.
I expect the FML would have to make up a lot for that invasion of privacy. The ML is not confrontational (he’s been turning the other cheek a lot) so I don’t think we’ll see him get angry, but he’ll definitely avoid FML so I hope she realizes her mistake.

Nicely done! Very good first episodes. I had no interest and drama got me very much into the story in the first minutes, as any decent drama should do.
I'm surprised everybody was shocked she pulled his mask and think she is good. She seemed amoral, which would be incredibly interesting if explored, but drama wants to pretend she is kind and the character believes it too.
Many lies can be a kindness or even a necessity. What happens when she exposes that kind of lie?
Cheater boyfriend had his right of privacy and so had the pregnant girl. The FL doesn't seem to worry about the consequence of her actions.
This sort of introverted ML probably needed a better actor but maybe this guy can have more range in later eps.
I like the secondary characters and the shopkeepers.

I loved first (six) episodes. The story is interesting.
There are some of used tropes (Sha-on's character is something I feel like I have seen in a few shows). But Jazz ahjussi is cool!
For the supposedly talented ML the spoiler song was such a let down. I barely notice OST for any Korean serial but this I noticed for how uninspired it sounded. (And the female vocals were not so powerful that the ML made an exception for her because only she can sing his songs, it was pretty ordinary)
