Drama viewership ratings for the week of August 7-13, 2023

Durian’s Affair ends with a nice 8% peak this week, and Behind Your Touch fills the King the Land slot with a strong premiere, as expected. But it’s the weekday ENA slots that are of interest this week: both Longing for You and Not Others are seeing steady increases, and continuing to do well against bigger networks. Maybe they’re getting their mojo back?

Could it be the KTL crowd? No other rom-coms on the weekend.

I’m hoping some Durian watchers migrate to My Dearest. And at least one of the two people in Korea still watching Heartbeat migrate to My Lovely Liar when the former ends.

(I am going to be stoic about Heartbeat’s numbers. Umm, nope. Still 💔)

"one of the two people in Korea still watching Heartbeat" -- funny and tragic all at once!

I am really hoping that My lovely liar can break 3.0 and stay above it this time so from this week onwards it can climb it deserves to be doing better.

Finished Durian's Affair last night and hope DB has a review...one of my favorite dramas...time travel, historical and towards the end, craziness of a family drama!

I have to admit that the name is quite off-putting.

I loved Durian's Affair, slow and stately start to crazed, choppy ending. It's one of my favorites this year, for many reasons, and I am going to give it all my beans cause no one else will.

Really? First episode was so boring to me and kind of confusing, so I dropped, but maybe I should have watched more eps

The ratings of MLL and Heartbeat are beyond me. I’m at lack of words.

HEARTBEAT and MY LOVELY LIAR both deserve far more love than they are getting.

Not really ratings related but for me HEARTBEAT started to drag around episode 11 and with tighter writing could have been a 12 episode drama or certainly 14 episodes. Once the flashback/repeating of dialogue starts for me that is not a good sign.
One thing I am grateful for is that in this vampire drama there was no use of religious iconography (except in the animation opening).
Kudos to Bae Seo-hoo for chewing up the scenery with his portrayal of Man-hwi.

Given that Heartbeat is on public network like KBS and only getting 2 percent, I assume it is doing even worse than MLL

How did JTBC break their rating curse? I remember just a year ago and in 2021 they are in a rating slump.
Did their executives hire a new shaman? Got a new sacrificial victim? I want that shaman too, by the way.

They did have their moment, briefly, at the time of The Veil - Red Sleeve - Tracer - Big Mouth (2021-2022). Sadly after that, their ratings went downhill again.

I wish TVN got their mojos back, after Crash Course in Romance they seemed very struggling ... for a mysterious reason.
And ENA never recovered post- Attorney Woo high.

Prediction- the ratings for BEHIND YOUR TOUCH will go higher in future weeks.

The ratings for THE REAL HAS COME will not. This show is like the Gallipoli Campaign in World War I: Fabulously good idea but awful execution. I am watching now mostly just out of curiosity.

It will be interesting to see if the butt-centric novelty of Behind Your Touch will wear off over time. I certainly tuned in just out of curiosity. While I enjoyed the Twenty Five Twenty One parody (just like Baek Ye-Jin on Na Hee-Do, I've lost all objectivity on 25-21) - the remainder of the humor kinda fell flat for me and the drama part felt uninteresting. I may give it a few more episodes, but I'm leaning towards dropping. Just too many other good things on right now like My Lovely Liar and Moving as well as some old stragglers I'm trying to get caught up on.

I honestly tuned for Behind your touch because of Lee Min Ki, the premise was too absurd to me to watch it otherwise

I know numbers don't define value or worth but all the same, I'm putting all my energy into hoping My Dearest and My Lovely Liar climb higher on the ratings ladder!

We are seeing more dramas showing the behind the scenes of drama making so we can see how much the team depend on ratings and the impact they have on the type of shows made and how it effects the careers of the various roles e.g. writers and PD.

Infairness to Behind your touch, the drama is unserious, wacky, funny and entertaining. It been a long time since I laught that hard lol. Maybe I am just a shallow person, I don't know but han ji min and lee min ki is a good tandem. Just like tom and jerry lol

Well, when she handed him the flyers saying that cows are really healthy in that area, I did chuckle, other than that I don’t think it was that funny, plus as a daughter of veterinary doctors from the village I was annoyed she was so against of treating cattle, I mean in the villages people mostly need veterinarian to treat the livestock, as it is the main source of income, it is not treating lovely cats and dogs, very difficult job btw

Are you familiar with All Creatures Great and Small ?

Wonderful tv series based on the books of the British veterinary surgeon Alf Wight, who wrote under the pseudonym James Herriot.

The books are wonderful , as is the drama, which ran for 90 episodes from 1978-1990 ( They have done a remake of the series which I have not seen) . There is a film as well (1975)

Jtbc dramas were more my type like several years ago before I went on break, because they were slice of life or procedurals that were kind of mundane, unlike TVN, that loved everything flashy, glamorous and loud, but now I don’t really know as currently I don’t even know which drama is on which channel, so can’t tell anymore
