Han Ji-min sees Behind Your Touch in JTBC fantasy

The first teaser has landed for JTBC’s new fantasy comedy Behind Your Touch, with a focus on our once-ordinary heroine Han Ji-min (Yonder) along with a far too short glimpse of Lee Min-ki (My Liberation Notes). I do expect, though, that the coming trailers will soon allow us more time with both Lee as well as Suho (Rich Man).

Meanwhile, we give our undivided attention to veterinarian Bong Ye-boon (Han Ji-min), who lives in a quiet little village in South Korea’s countryside. Taking us right inside her local animal clinic, the teaser begins with Ye-boon introducing herself.

She explains that her special ability just came to her one day, out of the blue, continuing, “Whether human or animal, I can see everything when I touch them. The only thing is, it has to be their… behind.” As we’re shown in the sequence, this allows Ye-boon to tap into the person or animal’s past.

For some reason, though, Ye-boon is determined to use her psychometry powers on police detective Moon Jang-yeol (Lee Min-ki). She vows that she’ll make it happen today and leaps forward as soon as opportunity strikes. But, just as quickly, Ye-boon’s plan becomes a painful fail as she didn’t anticipate Jang-yeol’s studded pocket.

Although I am scratching my head a bit at the wacky setup, this is the team who created The Light in Your Eyes – PD Kim Seok-yoon (My Liberation Notes) and writer Lee Nam-kyu (Awl, This Week My Wife Will Have an Affair) – so I’m willing to trust what they have planned for this story.

With the production also aided by PD Choi Bo-yoon, and writers Oh Bo-hyun and Kim Da-hee, JTBC’s Behind Your Touch premieres on August 12, following King the Land in the weekend slot.

The PD is one from My Liberation Notes. This is going to be weirdly fun.

So the TL;DR is that Han Ji-min is obsessed with touching Lee Min-ki's butt?

I'm aware that teasers can be incredibly misleading. I hope this one is.

Ahem, certain estrogen-dominant persons in my household are most certainly hoping it is not!

I want to know more about how she found out about her ability... One has to touch a number of behinds to build up those skills!

Two things, the touching animal butts can be hilarious, the touching people butts, hmmmm. Also that filter, Kdrama higher ups, it is okay that Ha Ji Min is aging, please remove the filter. Let us see her beautiful face without it. That being said this looks like it could be fun.

Anyone know if this will be a romance?

Soompi’s description of the show is “comedy investigative drama”, but I read before that there will be romance between HJM and LMK’s characters.

Now this could be vvveeerrrryyyyyy interesting given the ML's! Love them both. Maybe we'll get a notebook of how to go about touching touchees without dying in the process.

Is it me or is anyone else noticing that a fantasy filter and a change of gender and ridiculous human rights issues can become entertainment. I watched Dear X who doesn’t love me quite happily for the above reasons but when it was pointed out that a male lead behaving in the same way would be an issue I suddenly wondered how I came to ignore the violations. I couldn’t handle the age difference in Goblin because it was a proper man with a school age teen, even ignoring the extra 900 years it would be hard to accept the developmental stage differences. Her in college or working would be slightly different but someone in their twenties going out with a school girl raises issues let alone someone in their thirties.

I think touching someone’s bottom is massively invading personal space so the whole hand on the seat accident would be horrific if we switched gender. I watched a drama where a male could see things about a person if he touched them but I think it was something he had discovered by accident and people came to him wanting to know the information so it was less obtrusive.

I think it’s an interesting concept and I wonder how they will how they will make it ok and stretch it into a drama series.

Really good point/s you've brought up @reply1988, I totally agree!! I was reflecting on a tangential theme (the theme of 'how on earth is this considered okay to write and air?') in a super popular show that's aged quite poorly now but wasn't really critiqued at the time, which is the Aria & Ezra subplot in the Pretty Little Liars franchise. Aria, introduced as a 15/16 year old high school girl, has this long relationship arc in the show with Ezra who is her high school English teacher (that actually ends in a marriage can you believe). You can probably already tell with that statement alone just how horrible the plot was to seriously romanticise something that's quite frankly illegal but worse was the fact that there was a whole generation of young girls (including myself) who were fully on board the 'ship' and idolised the Aria/Ezra romance at the time. It's actually a plot in the books that the show was based on too, and super concerning just how much something like this was marketed as being 'couple goals' and 'star crossed lovers' to young, impressionable girls, without many eyebrows being raised at all.

Product of the time unfortunately because that wasn't the only teen show/book to feature illegal activities but pass it off as acts of love, but it does make me wonder still when we've supposedly come so far with awareness in media content but still have problematic elements, like in Dear X and the potential red flag with this plot point in Behind Your Touch

It is a worry how something suspect can be hidden in plain sight.

I watched the children’s film Mrs Doubtfire (1993) at the cinema. At the end the dad uses this character as children’s tv presenter. Mrs Donbtfire has a generalised Scottish accent but when asked where she came from she said England and the puppet character she was talking to asked if that was the place with Asian owned corner shops where they speak Pakistani. I used it in training for a while and most people even those who had seen the film before the training had not registered all that was wrong in that short sequence. No Scottish person would describe themselves as English, there is no language called Pakistani and is the implication that ALL corner shops have become Asian owned and if that is the message what is that?
The fact that the sequence made it through to the final shoot with no one querying it says a lot. I still remember that scene although most of the rest of the film has disappeared from my memory.

I’m not usually a fan of this kind of humor, but Han Ji-min rubbing her hands in anticipation had me cracking up. She is hilarious.

I have faith in the MLN PD, so hoping it will be good. But I’ll be watching it no matter what for my love of LMK. And also looking forward to watching HJM for the first time.
