Making your Heartbeat with black suits and blood drops

The newest batch of posters for KBS’s Heartbeat features the main cast looking dashing in black suits. Keeping in line with the vampire motif and campy atmosphere, the posters are framed in blood drops, and each of the characters show a bit of red on their person, representative of an important aspect to them.

At the helm is the latest, sexy K-vampire Seon Woo-hyul played by Taecyeon (Blind). A vampire who wishes to be human, Woo-hyul dreams of experiencing love one day, but his plans to obtain a beating heart are thwarted. Sporting a red pocket square over his chest, his tagline reads, “My heart has never beat before.”

Either the bane of our vampire’s existence or the love of his life is coldblooded human Joo In-hae played by Won Ji-ahn (If You Wish Upon Me). After inheriting an old house from her father, In-hae stumbles across Woo-hyul’s coffin and disturbs his 100-year slumber. In her poster, her pop of red is around her neck with the tagline: “Even if you bite me, you won’t get a single drop of blood from me.”

While there has been a lot of information released about the two leads, these latest character posters also give us a peek into the other members of this complicated quartet. Making his drama debut, Park Kang-hyun (West Side Story) plays real estate developer Shin Do-shik, and it seems he may be connected to not only In-hae but Woo-hyul, as well. His tagline says, “To escape this fate, I need to drink that blood.”

Completing the square is Yoon So-hee (Peng) playing silver spoon, property investor Na Hae-won. Beautiful and extravagant, Hae-won resembles someone from Woo-hyul’s past, and her tagline seems to hint at this, too: “Could it be her and I look alike?”

Directed by PD Lee Hyun-seok (Hello? It’s Me, The King’s Affection) and PD Lee Min-soo (The Stain) with scripts written by Kim Ha-na and Jung Seung-joo, KBS’s Heartbeart premieres on June 26 in the Monday-Tuesday slot following My Perfect Stranger.

This continues to look SO fun!! I want it to be campy and overly dramatic, but in a way that doesn't take itself too seriously.🧛‍♂️🍷

@lovepark: It is fun to see how clever and inventive dramas can get with Hangeul calligraphy. I was looking closely on the posters and noticed that in the gothic style in which ‘ 가슴이 뛴다 ‘ is written, ‘ㅁ‘ is aptly drawn as a little coffin! And, with the red lid having a heart monitor sign which is extended from ‘ㅏ‘. And, the three bats above!

A correction!: It is the ‘ㅇ‘ in ‘이’ which is the coffin! My bad but still ridiculously cute!

In case you are wondering: In Hangeul, ‘ㅇ‘ is silent before a vowel at the beginning of a syllable but at the end of a syllable has a ‘ng’ soft sound. ’ㅇ‘ can also be written in a vertical way as in ‘이’. Syllable blocks cannot begin with a vowel so ’ㅇ‘ always precedes any vowel at the beginning of a syllable block. ‘이’, btw, approximates an ‘ee’ sound as in ‘eat’.

Sorry for carrying on but in case you were also wondering, consonants can also precede vowels at the beginning of a syllable block such as in 한.

The colour palette and tone of the posters reminds me of The Vampire diaries!! I swear Elena had a penchant for wearing mostly red and black in the first season especially 😂

I CAN'T WAIT! Also looking forward to seeing Won Ji-ahn in action again, her character was frustrating in 'If You Wish Upon Me' but she was one of my favourites (go figure that logic 😆) in the show - something about her acting had me hooked.

I never watched TVD but loved BTVS before Joss Whedon’s toxic awfulness was revealed and poisoned the well of my good memories. I still like some bits and have problems with many others.
