Killer smiles and demonic chaos in Revenant teaser
by Jenzy
Is there an easy way to tell someone that they’re being possessed by a demon? In Revenant’s second teaser, we get a look at how Oh Jung-se (Little Women) pursues the demon-possessed Kim Tae-ri (Twenty Five Twenty One) in an effort to exorcise the demon plaguing her.
The teaser opens on our lead Gu San-young (Kim Tae-ri), an aspiring civil servant who unknowingly gets tangled up in the evil spirit realm by way of her late father’s belongings. She’s approached by Yeom Hae-sang (Oh Jung-se), who, when she warily asks him how he knows her, responds calmly, “There’s a demon attached to you.”
You see, while Hae-sang may look like an ordinary literature professor, he actually has the ability to see demons. He recognizes San-young’s demon as the one who killed his mother when he was a child, but San-young isn’t interested in his spiel, rebuffing him with an annoyed, “I don’t believe in things like ghosts nor do I even have the time to bother with that stuff.”
However, the reality of San-young’s situation sets in when people begin mysteriously dying all around her, drawing the attention of violent crimes investigator Lee Hong-sae — played by Hong Kyung (Weak Hero Class 1) — who visits her house to interrogate her on why all the people around her have either died or disappeared.
We then see quick cuts of the chaos that unfolds around San-young: dead bodies, police cars, and supernatural pulling forces. In response, we see in one scene, she frantically tapes her door shut, while in another she yells for the demon to get out. Meanwhile, we also see scenes of Hae-sang, having seen this situation already with his mother, hunting San-young down while he worries in the voiceover, “If I don’t find her soon enough she might die.” By the end of the teaser, Hae-sang finally finds San-young, but when she turns to face him, it’s with a malevolent grin. Has he come too late?
Written by Kim Eun-hee (Kingdom) and directed by Lee Jung-rim (V.I.P), Revenant premieres on SBS’s Friday-Saturday slot on June 23.

I really hope I like this. I haven't been truly invested in a kdrama since The Glory, and My Liberation Notes before that.

Fortunately for you, its clear from the promos that the demon possessing Kim Tae-ri’s character was brutally bullied in Hades eons ago, and the literature professor is an alcoholic who is willing to worship Kim Tae-ri. I anticipate an emotionally gripping, slice of supernatural life revenge drama.

Well. In that case, this sounds right up my alley. Slice of supernatural life revenge drama seems a bit much, but I've got to come out of my kdrama slump somehow.

Based on this, I'm probably going to pass, unless I eventually find convincing, glowing comments after airing.
Kim Eun Hee's writing seems to have devolved into twisted darkness from the quality and cleverness in SIGNAL, which I highly recommend.
