Familiar faces in Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3 character posters

Upcoming SBS medical drama (now more of a saga, let’s be real) Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3 has recently dropped character posters, and they have taken the “no man left behind” approach. I’ve never seen this many character posters in my life. And yikes, I think I forgot how many characters were actually in this series! That’s good news, of course, because that means everyone is back from the ginormous success of Season 2.

Our first three character posters re-introduce us to our leading characters — played by Han Seok-kyu (Recipe for Farewell), Ahn Hyo-seop (Business Proposal), and Lee Sung-kyung (Call It Love) — our eponymous hero Dr. Kim (Han Seok-kyu), and his two misfit/fledgling doctors Seo Woo-jin (Ahn Hyo-seop) and Cha Eun-jae (Lee Sung-kyung). In the prior season these two young docs faced their demons and also became a couple. We’re promised more of their romance in Season 3, which is a bit of a curiosity to me — since it’s so rare that K-dramas tell stories of existing couples — but I’m game.

Speaking of romance — and really, this show makes it seem like every hospital OR is a hotbed of true love — next up is our doctor and nurse couple, comprised of So Joo-yeon (Seasons of Blossom) and Kim Min-jae (Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist). Can we pause for a squee? These two were the cutest, and I demand more. Dimples, quadruple!

Also returning are the hospital staff with more seniority: Jin Kyung (Love in Contract), Byun Woo-min (It’s Beautiful Now), Im Won-hee (Showtime Begins!), and Kim Joo-hun (A Model Family). These folks add to the hospital’s political and interpersonal struggles, but also bring gravitas to the story. And I can’t forget a special shoutout to Shin Dong-wook (Woori the Virgin), whose story I remember wanting more of last season.

But because this is dramaland, we’ll also need a new villainous creature who doesn’t like our eccentric Dr. Kim, and can’t just leave Doldam in peace — and that’s where the ubiquitous and ever-evil Lee Kyung-young (Queenmaker) comes in.

The last season was three long years ago back in 2020, so while the details are a bit foggy, I’m sure Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3 will not hesitate to remind us of everyone’s backstory and relationships. Nor to make us weep shamelessly again with its sentimental and heart-tugging stories. Seriously, if doctors were this loving and hospitals this warm and cozy in real life, things would be looking a lot better.

Writer and director duo Kang Eun-Kyung and Yoo In-shik (Extraordinary Attorney Woo) return behind the camera, and Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3 premieres on April 28 in SBS’s roaring Friday-Saturday slot.

But I don't see Mr. Goo 😞😭 Head nurse calling for him when things get messy was the best part of the first two seasons.

I read somewhere, may have been on MyDramaList, that this will be picked up by Disney plus. so.not.happy... I loved the feel good two seasons and was looking forward to this as a welcome distraction from, you know, real life, but I don't need another service to subscribe to!! 😩
