Island: Episodes 3-4

A distressing case tugs at our heroine’s compassionate heartstrings, compelling her to extend a helping hand to someone in need. But the attacks against her run deeper than she expects, and she finds herself plunging headfirst into danger yet again.

EPISODES 3-4 WEECAP

“Island

Ban begins his career as Mi-ho’s bodyguard, and as expected, it’s hilariously awkward. Not only does he completely disregard the social etiquette befitting a chaebol employee, but he also lacks the modern skills that most regular people would have. Cue: a miffed Mi-ho driving her own car, while Ban — sans driving license — relaxes in the backseat. HAHAHA.

Mi-ho’s used to bossing people around, while Ban certainly isn’t used to being bossed around, resulting in a very entertaining dynamic in which it’s questionable who’s the actual employer here. Still, Mi-ho doesn’t have much time to waste bickering with Ban. It’s her first day at work, and she already has her hands full trying to get her unruly students to settle down.

“Island

This is where our drama suddenly takes a dark turn, blindsiding us with an abrupt tonal shift that veers us into serious territory. (I know, the drama is literally about demons, but so far it’s always had a tongue-in-cheek absurdity to it!)

One of Mi-ho’s students, LEE SOO-RYUN (Jung Soo-bin), hasn’t been showing up to class. Her best friend, BU YEOM-JI (Heo Jung-hee), is concerned enough that she walks straight out of class (in front of an affronted Mi-ho) in order to pay Soo-ryun a visit.

“Island

Soo-ryun is curled up in bed, frightened and shaking and sporting a whole array of bruises. Her despicable garbage can of a boyfriend, MOON KYUNG-JOON (Yoo Yi-joon), is a violent abuser. Not only does he brutalize her with a karaoke mic, but he also blackmails her with explicit photos.

Going to the police isn’t an option, and the media scrutiny on Mi-ho means she has to be on her best behavior and stay out of trouble. With no one on their side, Yeom-ji does the only thing she can think of to comfort Soo-ryun — she relays the myth of Benjulle, a divine spirit that resides on the mountain and exacts revenge at a price.

“Island “Island

At her wits’ end, Soo-ryun grasps desperately onto this last ray of hope. She makes her way up the mountain, praying desperately on Benjulle’s altar. But the next thing we see is a huge, gaping hole, with countless lust demon leeches crawling out of it. That’s certainly an ominous sign…

Meanwhile, back at the estate, Butler Jang introduces his “nephew” Yo-han. Initially bewildered, Mi-ho quickly warms up to Yo-han’s amusingly impertinent attitude, and before long they’re drunk and giggling like a pair of troublemakers. Butler Jang is certainly going to have his hands full reining both of them in, HAHA.

“Island

Now that they’re acquainted, Mi-ho and Yo-han end up working together when Yeom-ji approaches them for help. For all that Mi-ho may be a rich, spoiled brat, she’s also deeply empathetic. Resonating with Yeom-ji’s desperation for someone to believe her, Mi-ho decides to check on Soo-ryun just in case, and she enlists Yo-han’s assistance.

Except the two have no idea what they’re walking into. What starts out as an exorcism quickly escalates when the walls of Soo-ryun’s room begin morphing into a forest, as a possessed Yeom-ji cackles that Mi-ho has fallen into the trap. They’re in Benjulle’s realm now.

“Island

Thankfully, Ban has also been following danger’s trail. He makes it to Benjulle’s forest, where a vengeance-driven Soo-ryun sits atop the colossal tree being Benjulle. Backed by his epic soundtrack once again, Ban saves Mi-ho from being pierced by one of Benjulle’s branches.

Still, Benjulle is much too strong. Before long, all three of our heroes are incapacitated, and for a moment it seems like there’s no way out — until Ban slips into demon mode and decimates his bonds. With the aid of his demon capabilities, Ban single-handedly defeats Benjulle, saving them all.

“Island

In the aftermath, Ban explains that Benjulle was contaminated by lust devils. It was all done to target Mi-ho, which naturally adds to Mi-ho’s feelings of guilt. (She points out that this is where Ban ought to reassure her that it’s not her fault, but Ban remains silent as usual, LOL.)

Now that Yo-han’s fighting prowess has been exposed, the cat’s out of the bag. Yo-han admits to Mi-ho that he’s here to investigate the strange occurrences around her, and to her credit, she barely bats an eye. At least there’s one more person on her side now, right?

“Island “Island

Having witnessed Ban’s momentary demon transformation during the fight, Yo-han decides a test is imperative. Engaging Ban in a sword fight and cornering him with pre-laid traps, he commands Ban to reveal his demon name. Yo-han’s exorcism method triggers Ban’s demon side to take over, but it’s more than either of them can handle.

His eyes glowing red, Ban breaks free of his bonds and grabs Yo-han’s sword with his bare hand, strangling Yo-han with the other. That’s the exact scene that Mi-ho chances upon, on her way to offer Ban some snacks. Pure instinct taking over, Ban dashes towards Mi-ho, dagger raised — and then he stabs her the exact same way he once stabbed Won-jung.

Oh nooooo. I was bracing myself for it to happen, given the prophecy and all, but it still felt like a punch to the gut. Ban’s regret has been weighing on him all these years, and I dread the damage it’ll do to his psyche once he finds out he’s hurt Won-jung yet again.

“Island

This development also ties into Butler Jang’s backstory, which explains why he knows so much about Won-jung/Mi-ho and Ban. Back when Butler Jang was a young priest, he witnessed Ban killing a lust demon right before his very eyes. As such, he’s wary of Ban’s non-human nature.

However, wise neighborhood granny GEUM BAEK-JOO (Go Du-shim) advises Butler Jang to trust Ban’s guilt — in other words, Ban’s desire to atone for hurting Won-jung means that he’ll protect her rather than hurt her again. Of course, as we’ve just seen, human emotions don’t seem to hold much weight when one’s demon nature has usurped control.

Interestingly, Ban remembers Butler Jang too, making our central relationships even more richly complex. Despite Ban’s reminder that he warned him to run away, Butler Jang insists that he has something he must protect. Oh dear, I hope that’s not a death flag…

“Island

It seems like we may be getting a case-of-the-week format while the overarching mystery slowly unravels, and while I’m sometimes wary of such a setup, I actually like what it did for our characters this week. Through Mi-ho’s righteous anger towards Kyung-joon and her complete lack of hesitation in trading a business asset for the resources to take him down, we see her compassionate and selfless nature.

Similarly, Ban displays that he does indeed have a heart, despite what he’s led Mi-ho to believe. Trekking back to the forest, Ban conveys Soo-ryun’s heartfelt letter to Benjulle, now that the divine spirit has been cleansed of its corruption. Thanks to Ban, Benjulle exacts revenge on Soo-ryun’s behalf, and the next morning, Kyung-joon is discovered dead.

“Island

Last but certainly not least, we finally get our first proper glimpse of Goong-tan (Sung Joon), white mane of glory and all! Needless to say, he’s the mastermind that orchestrated the Benjulle attack. Goong-tan has his sights on Ban, but interestingly, he hasn’t directly shown malice towards him thus far. (Only to poor Mi-ho, via the lust demons).

In fact, when Ban is in the forest, Goong-tan approaches him under the cover of a force field that keeps him invisible. He has the opportunity to strike, but he doesn’t take it — which makes me curious as to his motive. Is he baiting Ban? Testing him? Taking revenge over a grudge he holds from the past? I don’t know yet, but I’m eager to find out.

I haven’t seen these episodes yet (as I just started episode 2), but these screenshots make me think that CEW is little more than a beagle bounding along following his two masters. It’s kind of adorable. 😆

Thanks for the recap!

I was happy that ep 3 & 4 had a bit more excitement especially since ep 1-2 were a lot of setup. The action scenes are fun! I really appreciated the fight between Van and Yohan at the end of ep 4. Looking forward to next week.

So far, the best thing about this show is the action scenes involving our two male leads. The basic story is moving slowly and has yet to be fully explained to the audience. It’s a bit frustrating not knowing why things are happening the way they are.
I have to admit the humorous quips are starting to fall flat for me. They’re trying to inject lighthearted comedy during scenes that should be serious/scary. I’m not a fan.
I’ll watch until the end because of KNG and CEW . I was hoping we’d get through one of Cha Eun Woo’s shows without his good looks being pointed out so directly. Why can’t the poor guy play a character that isn’t told how handsome he is?
I’m not impressed all that much with LDH, she’s still constantly brushing her hair off her face. She’s giving me the vibe of a model who walked off the street into a kdrama. I’ll have to watch another production of hers to make a fair assessment.
I so much wanted to love this show-the trailers made it look amazing. My fear now is that we got all the best bits in the trailers because the non-action scenes are awkward and slow-paced. I’m still enjoying the show overall and will continue to watch, I’m just dismayed that so much potential seems to be wasted by uneven storytelling and pacing issues.

I enjoyed these two episodes so much. Our trio is hilarious!

The only thing that bothered me was Mi Ho as a teacher. Even if she's a fake teacher, after hearing that a girl is being abused she didn't care at all? If she wasn't going to do anything at least she should've looked for someone that could help the girl. She didn't even called her mother to see how the girl was doing and if the mom was aware of the situation. She just acted like that was nothing. She's supposed to be their teacher, she's an adult, wtf was that.
Thanks god she had a wake up call with Su Jin's case. She needs to understand that those kids are her responsibility too. I would recommend her to watch School 2013 and learn from Jang Na Ra how to be a good teacher.

Well, besides that I really enjoyed the dynamics between the leads and the fantasy. Btw, was I the only one that for a second thought Giovanni's sword was a Star Wars laser? LOL. The first time it looked like that, and I just couldn't imagine to see a priest with have magical objects (isn't magic supposed to be bad? From the devil or witches or something?), so it was a shock to see that shiny sword.

I wonder how Mi Ho will react to Van's identity. Till now she has acted like a girl with a crush, so I'm curious if that's going to change.

I don't think Yohan/Giovanni's lightsword has anything to do with magic in its traditional sense - it seems to be the physical manifestation of his holy powers. Like how physical remnants of saints are considered having some divine, miracle-creating aura/power to them. Only that he's so gifted that he can extend his inner holiness to objects outside of his own body to make weapons for convenience. Notice how he repeatedly answers that he's armed with his faith to Miho? He's NOT joking.

Why is johan’s character there? he is meaningless.
you can not have the trappings of Christianity but not the substance; either you fully acknowledge its claims, and Christianity has absolute power over all demons, absolutely, or you do not have it in your mythology. You can deny it, but then why acknowledge it even in part, and why have it in there in a virtuos scope at all. you can not half acknowledge it, half ass it, or half remove it of its power, it does not work. It is not a worldview you can be luke warm about, even in fiction and fantasy. either it does something, and that something works, fully, completely, or there is no point in having it in your tv show.

the Van character is not much better. the power of Objective Evil, as we call it, as these demons are, can not be used to fight Objective Evil, can not be used to fight itself; this is illogical, and inherently spiritually unsound. you can not state an Objective Evil exists, and then declare that it is Relative in how it is used. To do so is an irrationality.

do not tell me that it doesn’t matter because it is fantasy, that is quite certainly not true, and it is not how good world building works.
This show is dumb,,.

You do know that contrary to what you may have witnessed in movies or some church service etc sometimes it takes time to fully cast out demons and cleanse the land of evil. it is not always a few minutes of just pleading the blood of JESUS and it's done. It is a fantasy drama and van is used to fight evil as he has some demon blood.....supposed buddhist belief, but if you watched properly priest Yohan senses it immediately after meeting van and lures him into a fight so he can cast it out. Did he succeed immediately? .......not yet but the drama is not complete.
Perhaps reserve your judgements until the drama is over.

lastly how are you making a case for christianity but do not know that evil forces have powers and sometimes non christian cultures have used sacrifices in form of blood ,rituals, animals festivals etc etc to pacify them.
van has demon blood of the main demon therefore he is able to subdue the lesser demons.

Religiosity is a human need but that doesn't make it a fact. All spirituality is per se a work of fiction entirely created by the human mind.

Stories involving creatures with super-human powers feeding on the human dark sides have been told long before the concepts of christianity were written down. It's no wonder those same stories have made it into the Bible as the only way to convert the masses of the validity of the new religion was to pillage previously existing beliefs. Christianity has only absolute power over all demons in a christian-only tale. Yet you do not need to build a christian storytelling to take inspiration from some of its tales. Tapping into elements of christianity is exactly the same as being inspired by any other work of fiction, from Star Wars to Ariel the little Mermaid.

In short, I am telling you that it doesn't matter because it is indeed fantasy, all of it, including christianity.

The idea that religiosity is a human need is a very first world idea. And very western. First, i doubt the majority of the world thinks religion isn't a fact. Not that numbers matter but it is very arrogant to assume that your western objective assessment of religion is truer than other cultures' own objective assessment of religion. You may have proof that religion and the spirit world do not exist but other people might very well have proof. Seeing is believing for them, just as not seeing is not believing for you. Just because you are a westerner doesn't mean you are always right. This leads to point two: South Korea has a mixture of muism, Christianity, and Buddhism. It's their culture. As a Christian i don't particularly like the way the culture is using Christianity but as a non-white westerner who has learned within a white majority culture that affirms and believes differently than I do, I have learned to respect cultures and syncretism. There are also various forms of Christianity so as a non-Catholic i am not going to argue about a faith i know nothing about. So, when you say things about another religion or denomination, it's best to be respectful and to fully know the religion before you make a wrong disdainful comment. Christianity in some of its form has pillaged or overrun other religions, but so has Buddhism, Islam, and even Confucianism and atheism. Gautama Buddha was Indian; how is it that Buddhism is in Korea, Japan, etc. Other religions existed in those places before. As every kdrama watcher knows, Buddhism, Confucianism, and muism had quite the bloody history and oppression back in the day. The Confucians were not particularly nice about spiritual beliefs. As for pillaging other spiritualities, there is a tao of belief that all religions share. The death of a sacrificed perfect atonement is very common in folklore and was common in early Judaism, Aztec, and other religions. If people choose to believe that an echo of their spiritual belief in Christianity is the TRUTH, that is their choice. Quit being so superior and let people be.

Religion is and remains a human-made concept, which is not a western first world idea but an anthological, philosophical and psychological idea.

I have not judged anybody having a belief, nor have I proclaimed I was better than them.
I simply state the fact that as religious tales are a human invention, they sit at the same table as any other fiction work. This does not affect the validity of anybody's beliefs. A belief is valid when it brings you the joy and comfort you seek, whether you believe in a divinity, in Santa, or in carrying a good luck talisman. Whether you call it religion, spirituality, shamanism, superstition, or even reading the horoscope, we all have beliefs we hang onto in life, and the fact they are not real doesn't change the comfort we get from them.

Yet, when it comes to arrogance, there is a form of arrogance in religiosity, which is to claim that individuals with non-compatible thinking patterns are being disrespectful. Religiosity often confuses obedience with respect. These are two different things. Why do you feel so threatened by my interpretation of spirituality that you need to defend all religious beliefs? Surely, that's the point of believing. Non-believers see religion as a work of fiction, believers see it as a holy thread. As much as I don't accuse individuals with a belief to be disrespectful of my understanding of the world, I would appreciate it if believers could show the same philosophical tolerance for non-believers. We should still be able to co-exist without getting at each other's throat, and appreciate a show for what it is: A fun fantasy story.

Of course all religions share: they all seek to meet the human needs for comfort and guidance in a complex world. People do tend to think and seek in the same way.
As Christianity has resorted to plagiarise previous beliefs (in Europe only, you can find tales of demonic exorcism in Ancient Greece, for example, long belong Christianity), it becomes pointless to define what Christian culture actually is, which in turn, makes it even more pointless to be offended by the way the show deals with the Christian culture.

You've spewed so much nonsense but this isn't the place for a conversation about religion and christianity.
You have no physical or spiritual proof that there is no GOD neither have you come up with any objective and rational explanation for the origins of human beings, the human psyche and creation as a whole. It is the height of foolish arrogance when you boldly proclaim there is no God ,transcendent values or spirituality.
I really want to laugh in your face.

There’s something off with this drama - the story has so much potential but the directing and the editing are off. Scene transitions aren’t smooth, motivation for the characters are not always shown properly. I wonder if they spent too much time and resources in the special effects that these vital aspects are getting second thought? Perhaps. But I like bam and yohan so far. Miho isn’t exactly a likeable character as of yet, I get no sympathy for her when she gets attack by demons but I feel that’s because of the directing, editing, issues with scene transitions and also somewhat on the writing of the character for the modern world. I will still watch it and hope these issues are tackled in the next episodes bettet.

for a show with only 12 episodes, you'd think that the storytelling would be tighter. instead the first few episodes feel draggy.

the best thing about it so far is the acting. the main trio have good chemistry. but apart from that most other things fall flat, especially the editing. I'm not even referring to the cgi (I don't expect much of Korean drama cgi effects) but even basic editing like scene cut during fights feel off.

I'll stick on mainly for kim nam gil. I guess my review was expected since the full-on fantasy/demon hunter/tsundere male lead genres aren't my favourite, but I was low-key hoping island would change my mind. more looking forward to his next drama, song of the bandits.

Ep4 was the best one so far, but I'm not holding my breath to see this level of quality continuing until the end. Weak directing aside, weak writing should be pointed out too - I get that cramming long slowly developed story from comics into 12 (?) episodes is a hard task, but it feels like show's writer has no clue what to cut and what to keep, resulting in serious pacing issues and questionable characterization. Van, for example: he made sense in Ep1 and KNG's acting is usually faultless, but the way dude just keeps being all silent and grumpy even when others literally back him into a corner for some asap needed answers starts getting annoying. I get that he's supposed to be mysterious and revealing everything about his past at this stage will spoil the story, but it's ridiculous now. We're supposed to emphasize with him, remember? Well, it's naturally hard to do that since we know literal ZERO about his current life other than his, uhm, job occupation. What he wants from Miho? To remember him? Forgive him? Leave him alone forever? Finish her mission and purify him of his demon half (if that's possible)? Or just repay his past debt and end it all there? Because the way he behaves around her is the epitome of crazily mixed signals. Poor girl, as she didn't have it complicated already...

Miho herself is not written that good either - I also find her sudden change of heart toward abused girl's case pretty jarring. Oh well, let's contribute it to Yohan's positive influence. They make really cute sibling-like duo for sure, tho I doubt Miho should be considered the older one here)))

Yohan himself is so far the most well-rounded one among the trio. His goals are clear, his personality makes sense (as much as it's possible for a flirty kpop loving geeenius teen exorcist lol), his interactions with people don't leave you scratching your head in angry confusion, even the humor of his scenes is the best in the whole drama. Van and Miho having their divorced exes-like banter while he was being strangled by forest spirit and tried to catch their attention with his chocked pleads for help to no avail... Lmao. I also appreciated that he was smart enough to use tricks and traps in his fight with Van - action hero with common sense, wow.

CGI and backstory for Benjulle were great imo. Still too much slow-mo and cuts in action. And casual fantastic racism towards Van who's still part human and didn't ask for any of this is getting old.

The world building is weak. What are Van's powers? Yohan's ones, why he can do that as a human?

Yohan and Mi-ho are useless.

It doesn't make sense to attack Van when he saved so many lifes for so long jusz because he's hal demon and a prophecy, they weren't there, they don't know what happened. Yohan is not investigating but judging. Mi-ho would already be dead without Van...

The fights looked comic.

He did day he will jump into this. And why Yohan can do this, I guess you should wait for his backstory

Yeah, ignoring Miho's whereabouts was not the best part of his plan indeed. Was the food he gave her meant to distract her or something? Maybe those shrimp (?) balls were spiked with sleeping pills? It'll be funny if she passes out before demonVan manages to stab her properly)))

It seems like Yohan is overconfident. He may even be that strong, but having no practical experience with local korean spirits (and not realizing this as a potentially fatal flaw) does him a serious disservice.

How else does he test van's (demon's) reaction to miho without miho's presence?Isn't it better to do it in his presence where he can assess the situation and can try to help miho than for his fears to come true and van ends up hurting miho when no is not around to help her .
We need to save the judgements till we know what finally happens.

How will he know he is not that strong till he faces him? Th reason he wants to check is to ensure if Van goes crazy, he can still protect Miho from him.

I totally agree with you. The drama is stupid and the last scene wirh the attacking is even more stupid. What does make Yo-han think he can beat a demon? How he can control him? Our teenager exorcist thinks he can manage a lust demon hen he wast able to deal with Benjulle and the school girl?

I am having fun watching, but it does my mean the drama isn’t stupid.

Your simple minded assumptions and disjointed understanding of the drama seems to be the issue here.
1. Yohan lures van into a fight to confirm what he has sensed and what he saw in the woods that van is part demon,he isn't
trying to kill van.
2. Prophecy says van killed miho and if one of the reasons is to check if van can still hurt miho ,it makes sense that the exorcism is done with miho around .duh!!! how else would he be able to tell if van can hurt miho without miho's presence?
Their fight was great, one of the more exciting aspects of ep 4 and left us with a mouth watering cliff hanger.

I must be very simple minded because in the six years I've been speaking to @kurama I've never known her to be simple minded. I guess I'm too simple minded to recognise her simple mindedness. Maybe we should take a course in mind complexity.
As long as it's not too difficult of course.

I'm really enjoying this!

I'm not convinced Van actually stabbed Mi-ho at the end, all we actually got to see was the blood-spatter and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he had stabbed some part of himself as a way to absorb that impulse in a less harmful way. Still, if he did, that's going to be tough to get around later, so we'll have to see.

I'm really interested in Goong-tan, but I didn't get the impression that he was the one orchestrating the attack. Maybe I missed something? Certainly mysterious, certainly ambiguous, but at this point it feels like we don't have much to go on of him in the present, so I'm happy to wait and find out more.

The interactions between all three of our leads continue to be fun. Obviously Mi-ho and Van, but now she has a great rapport with Yohan too, and I loved the mutual distrust/disgust of Yohan and Van in all their interactions. I'm also really loving the old haenyeo and her relationship with Van - I laughed so hard when she tried to hit him with her purse and he danced just out of reach!

Well, I am watching and I am having fun, but the drama is a bit silly… I’m not asking it to be perfect but I would like it to be coherent at least.

The story building in weak, the way we were introduced Soo Tywin’s story was sloppy. For instance it would have made more sense if MiHo has met her before. But after all the whole high school setting is just stupid: MiHo leaving her Porsche in the middle of the road and not in the parking slot where all the other teachers would have their cars, she being in charge of a class to teach… what subject? Wasn’t she in charge of counseling? And what did he do when a student ask for counseling? Please, I know this is fantasy, but why don’t you make a little sense, chaka-nim?

Also, and regarding MiHo… someone please cut her bangs or give her hair pins. If I see once more LDH pulling her hair back, I will lose all interest in her character. Also, it seems there is a conspiracy among LDH’s enemies to dress her in those horrible costumes…

Regarding costumes… how many times a day does Yo-han puts in and off his cassock? Is he a priest or a rapper? And how many times does the change his earrings? Please? A priest? My foot!!!!

This drama is only 12 episodes and next week we’ll be the middle of the show and so far we’ve got 2 minutes of one of the leads.

Yes, it’s an easy watch. Yes, it’s entertaining. No, it’s not good.

Yay! Another fan who’s being driven nuts by LDH and her constant messing with those bangs she’s growing out. Because we’ve had so little background on why these ‘lust’ demons (why are they lust demons BTW? I see zero evidence of lust) are attacking our FL, I amuse myself by counting how many times she messes with her hair. I think in one episode I stopped counting at 7x.
I think a lot of the frustration echoed on this site shows that it takes more than 3 attractive stars to make a coherent series. The writing and pacing on this show is all over the place so we have no idea why the characters are doing what they’re doing. IMO, we’d have been better served learning about their current situation than watching those drawn out scenes of kids being literally tortured by priests. At least then we’d have a better understanding what the present day storyline is and what our 3 heroes are here to accomplish.

- parking on the road - because she is a spoiled chaebol used to being driven up to the front doors and not worrying where to park. I doubt she even bothered to know where the parking slot is. The principal even met her in front.

- class - i thought she could also be the homeroom teacher and that was homeroom period? I dont know if in SK, guidance counselors can also become homeroom teacher.

I usually don't read/watch much promo to let the drama surprise me so I totally forgot that Sung Joon was here till that glimpse! Was pleasantly surprise.

The CG of the house and some scenes sometimes throw me off but the action scenes are well shot. As for the story, it can be tighter, like around this episode, we should know what is the purpose of Wonjeong and that Mi-ho should've been awaken but hey, go Show, show what you've got.

Also, it's very interesting to see how Nam-gil's hair changed in a few scenes. Some were definitely shot during Through The Darkness and how I wish we had more of those scenes. Maybe it's time for a rewatch of TTD??

Yes about KNG hair. It thought about it. During his scene with halmoni he has his TTD hair. In fact in that scene he looked like a totally different character than in the rest of the episode, he was at ease, not as rigid. He’s always like that when he is with halmoni.

Yeah, during that scene. Halmonis always have that warmth and I love that KNG is able to portray the differences.

I noticed the hair too. i read that filming for TTD and Island overlapped, so it makes sense.

yes to the TTD rewatch. the song ha young visuals are unbeatable. I lowkey wonder if kim nam gil will eventually play another character who's even better looking than ha young... then again ha young's attractiveness also majorly stem from his personality.

Currently rewatches are postponed bcs life is getting in the way.

I’m sure KNG will outdone himself, not here though, maybe in another drama. However, Ha-young will always be a memorable character for me, KNG’s portrayal was 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

Thank you for the weecap @solstices!
Island is a drama that I was excited when it was first announced. I am still watching but I cannot say that I'm currently thrilled with the story or the characters. Hopefully, this will change.

I’m enjoying This drama and glad it’s on prime. But I thought mi-ho actually killed the Deann with her powers. Ban came up behind and was about to stab when she glowed.. or am I wrong

im enjoying this show!

I love that its fast pace (+ you dont even feel the time passing, there were multiple moments where I was shook that it was already mid way through) and it just gets to the point of the ep.

this weeks eps were really good! Im glad they finally brought CEW's character together with the main duo (instead of dragging it out) and their dynamic was so good. I was also SO excited when goong-tan finally made an appearance and I cant wait to see more of him.

Yohan please speak more Italian at Van and confuse the heck out of him! I'd love if you annoy him more and humanize him.

Curious and more curious
I have a question ❓
When Van met Butler Jang, he told Butler Jang that If Butler Jung had not interfered, MiHo would be already MinJoung ... About what incident he was speaking?
Also I am a little confused about about the grany. She is supposed to be the oldest habitat of Jeju. Did she reborn or is she immortal?

Also I am superad with that king ... He turned two boys into demon slayers by force yet he didn't acknowledged their value. And the granny witnessed this too ... 😡😡😡 Shouldn't you treat people, who protect your life, better?

I think Van meant that as Butler Jang is overprotecting MiHo, she hasn't awaken as MinJoung. As for granny, I believe she is inmortal.

I'm liking this. It's fun and the backstory promises to be Bulgasal-lite. Seems that way, anyway. I can see our two immortals having some love-hate relationship. Is Sung Joon's character his old friend who was also turned by the older shamans?
I'm not a fan of Yohan but i tend not to be a fan of intrusive pesky young-uns who walk around being superior to other folks. Plus the whole young hottie hip priest thing is getting old. I know I'll end up liking him after he's learned a lesson or two and gotten a bit more humbled. So i'll endure His Holy Cuteness. I do roll my eyes at some of the utterly wrong (in my opinion) Christian theology but eh, it's a drama so i'll go along with it.

I am not disappointed with this drama especially since I read the webtoon and the Manhwa before, If indeed we expect a fantasy drama or classic horror it seems offbeat and we will be disappointed.
But I think they really managed not to betray the comics from which it was adapted. I've seen manga adaptations that are really disappointing but not this one, the representation of the demons, the main characters, the fights reflect the webtoon well. For those who haven't seen the animated version just imagine you have the adaptation of "Demon Slayer" in drama, the fight scenes are a real treat.

While I'm almost enjoying how epically stupid this show is, I think I'm going to have to bow out.

My "favourite" part of what I saw was two complete strangers showing up to some woman's door and saying, "I'm a teacher from your daughter's school and this is a random priest, please let us go into your teenage daughter's room alone"... and she did.

Everything about this show is dumb but it's not dumb in any kind of consistent way. It's like bits of dumb from other things all together, a kind of dumb melange.

Aspects of Dumb.

I admit a kind of morbid curiosity and it may get the best of me at some point but for now adieu. I'm out.

Help, did you ever go back? Did it get better? Because the reaction of the parent had me get up and leave. I came back, but only made it to the scene were Van is actually shown to be susceptive to her calling him a coward (the emotional manipulation taunt of a kindergartener).

I don't find this drama all that hilarious or even funny. I do think Eun Woo is much better as a secondary character but it's interesting to me seeing him playing this brash kind of character. I feel like through this character he gets to show a part of his personality he typically doesn't get to (I could be wrong. It's not like I follow his career but isn't he usually humble or shy to play into the cute thing?).

For me the draw is Kim Nam Gil. He's the only reason I decided to check this out and I like his performance so far. The moments when he's deadpan or stoic is just as intetesting to me as him being menancing.
