News bites: September 21, 2022

  • Colorful new posters have been released for tvN’s The Queen’s Umbrella, featuring our heroine Kim Hye-soo (Hyena) alongside the powerful ladies of the palace: Kim Hae-sook (Tomorrow), Ok Ja-yeon (Big Mouth), and Kim Ga-eun (Kiss Sixth Sense). We finally get a look at some of our princes as well, including: Moon Sang-min (My Name), Yoo Sun-ho (The Great Shaman: Ga Doo-shim), and Yoon Sang-hyun. The sageuk premieres next month on October 15. [Newsis]
  • Lee Sang-yub (Eve) is in talks for a new sports romance called Sincere Boxer (roughly translated). Based on an award-winning novel by Choo Jong-nam titled Sincere Boxer Lee Kwon-sook, the story is about a world class female boxer who suddenly quit and disappeared. She is then re-discovered by a sports agent one day, who makes her an enticing offer to return the ring. [News1]

Lee Kim Joo-hun, Park Jin-ju

  • Kim Joo-hun (Big Mouth) has been added to the cast of Ask the Stars, playing a fellow astronaut with Gong Hyo-jin (When the Camellia Blooms), and second fiddle (or something!) to Lee Min-ho’s leading role. The sci-fi rom-com has also secured Park Jin-ju (Critical X) in a special guest appearance as a favor to both the drama’s PD and writer: Park Shin-woo (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay) and Sung Sook-hyang (Greasy Melo) respectively. • Coming to our screens this Saturday is KBS’s new weekender Three Brave Siblings, headlined by Lee Hana (Voice 4) and Im Joo-hwan (The Spies Who Loved). The newest teaser certainly promises plenty of family and romance shenanigans, and I propose we start a prayer circle for this one because our boy Im Joo-hwan deserves all the wins. [MBC]

  • Over on MBC, a new poster has dropped for their upcoming May I Help You. Starring Hyeri (Moonshine) and Lee Jun-young (Let Me Be Your Knight) as a wish-fulfilling duo for their living — and deceased — clients, the fantasy-romance is slated to air on October 19 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot. [MBC]
  • More stills have been released of our Love is For Suckers (previously translated as Icy Cold Romance) couple Lee Da-hee (L.U.C.A.: The Beginning) and Choi Siwon (Work Later, Drink Now). We also get our first look at Lee’s blue-haired frenemy Jo Soo-hyang (Love All Play). The rom-com will be launching on October 5, airing Wednesdays and Thursdays on ENA. [News1, Newsen]

  • Now that the promo gates are open for Curtain Call, KBS has been dishing out more character stills of leads, Kang Haneul (Insider) and Ha Ji-won (Chocolate) – on top of our first photos of the elegant Go Du-shim (Our Blues). Directed by PD Yoon Sang-ho with writing by Jo Sung-keol, the drama will be following The Law Cafe in the Monday-Tuesday slot this October. [News1 (1), (2)]

(6) Is that really Lee Da-hee?!? I'm struggling to recognize her. What happened? The show sounds super fun, though.

Other than the fact that she's not as made-up as in some other roles I don't think she looks any different?

Gorgeous as always of course.

Yes, she looks great as always. Sometimes when people say Lee Da-hee, my mind changes it to Lee Da-hae who looks completely different and I have this moment of confusion too. (Not sure if OP has the same thing though.)

I'm not confused. 😁 But I've seen her in a couple of dramas and I happen to be watching Search: WWW right now, and to me the posters and stills don't resemble the versions of her I've seen onscreen - not worse or anything, just different. It may well be the lighting, makeup, and photo manipulation. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this show - and I covet their flowered slippers!

It's going to be eye jerking seeing Kim Hye-soo in a hanbok. She seems displaced, and I can't wait to see her pull comedic tirades after seeing all her serious faces in dramas🤭😅😅. The stills here alone especially the red hanbok one is evoking laughter as I type. The Queen's Umbrella will be fun. Serious Kim Hye-soo in comedy - the thought alone is inducing laughter.

Park Jin-joo special appearance. I got too excited before reading it all through.

Finally Three Siblings Bravery is here.

Love is For Suckers😅😅. Let's see you fall hard in love people.

1. I could not be more excited for a show. Sageuk + Kim Hye-soo, what’s not to be hyped about? This has easily shot up to my most anticipated future drama release.

2. The female lead role seems practically made for Lee Shi-young.

3. What is it with Ask the Stars casting supporting male actors who are far more interesting than the male lead? I’m still a little disappointed Oh Jung-se isn’t the ML instead of Lee Min-ho (no offense to his fans) because I think him and Gong Hyo-jin would be lovely together. And once again, it’s a damn shame that the enormously talented Park Jin-joo is still stuck in supporting/cameo roles.

4. Wishing for it to reach the stratospheric ~40% weekend drama ratings because Im Joo-hwan deserves the success! I love that we’re collectively rooting for him.

5. While I’m not particularly looking forward to this show, this is a nice poster.

6. Much, MUCH preferred the original title, why did change a perfectly nice-sounding name to… whatever uninspired mess this is? I like Joo Soo-hyang’s dark blue hair, it’s a unique look.

7. Ooh, the chemistry is already jumping out even from the stills. I’m excited for the mess (good, angsty television) this fauxcest-y pairing brings. Go Du-shim looks stunning.

Love is for Suckers, very excited for this one.

I may try The Queen's Umbrella.

The rest I care very little about.

Getting excited for The Queen’s Umbrella. The two posters are nice and effective~ :)

Possibly interested in Curtain Call... Didn't catch Kang Haneul's previous drama. >.<;;

@tccolb thanks for this. It must be really hard to make these promo posts interesting when the companies release limited info in order to peak our interest.

The genre mix I never expected to see has been released so I may be forced to do the four episode test to see if it works: sci-fi rom-com😳.

My favourite line in the post: I propose we start a prayer circle for this one because our boy Im Joo-hwan deserves all the wins.

I don’t normally watch family weekender live because you can ff when needing to with a complete drama. But we should support Im Joo-Hwan as best as we can. And the teaser looks pretty fine with many familiar and favorite veteran actors.

I thought Curtain Call was closer to its premiere date than it actually is, so I'm a little disappointed about that. That said, Love In Contract has started, and Three Brave Siblings will start this week. Excited to watch both!
