Dominant Species (roughly translated), the latest project by Forest of Secrets writer Kim Soo-yeon (Grid), has finally announced its main lineup: Joo Ji-hoon (Jirisan), Han Hyo-joo (Happiness), Lee Hee-joon (Chimaera), Lee Moo-saeng (Cleaning Up), and Park Ji-yeon (A Model Family). Production for the sci-fi is set to begin this year. The director and broadcaster is still being discussed. [News1]

ENA released casting news, as well, with Jo Soo-hyang (Love All Play) now joining Lee Da-hee (L.U.C.A.: The Beginning) and Choi Siwon (Work Later, Drink Now) in Nonsensical Romance and Whatnot (a.k.a. Icy Cold Romance). Launching this October in the Wednesday-Thursday slot, PD Choi Kyu-shik (Hush, Let’s Eat 3) is at the helm with Kim Sol-ji (Pegasus Market) penning the scripts. [JTBC, News1]

Across the pond, it was announced that Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game) will be joining actors Jodie Turner-Smith and Amandla Stenberg in the Disney+ Star Wars series, The Acolyte. Although we don’t know much about Lee’s character, the story is said to be set long before the events of the live-action Star Wars films. Showrunning the series is Leslye Headland (Russian Doll). A new poster has dropped for TVING’s upcoming sci-fi Yonder, featuring grief-stricken hero Shin Ha-kyun (Unicorn). Co-starring Han Ji-min (Our Blues) as Shin’s late wife, filmmaker Lee Joon-ik (The Book of Fish) is the talent behind the camera. In early October, the drama will be showcased at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) before releasing to the wider audience through TVING and Paramount+ on October 14. [News1]

A action-noir webtoon adaptation called My Heart Is Beating is in the works, and Sung Hoon (Woori the Virgin) has been cast as the lead. With film director Jo Dong-oh (The Accidental Detective 2: In Action) taking the reins, production is still in the planning stages and is aiming to start filming before the year ends. [News1]
Another poster has come out for KBS’s Three Brave Siblings, featuring the weekender’s main OTP: Lee Hana (Voice 4) and Im Joo-hwan (The Spies Who Loved Me). Im’s character teaser was released this week as well, ahead of the drama’s premiere on September 24. [News1]

In their last round of promos, tvN’s upcoming Mental Coach Jegal has released more stills as well as a new video teaser. Along with our frustrated former athlete Jung Woo (A Model Family), we finally get a better look at his frenemy rival Kwon Yul (Dal-li and Gamjatang). The sports drama will be coming to our screens in just a few days on September 12, following Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist in the Monday-Tuesday slot. [News1]

Lee Da Hee and Siwon. This is a match I didn't know I was curious about. I love Lee Da Hee so will def try it for her.

The writer on PEGASUS MARKET will be penning the scripts for NONSENSICAL ROMANCE AND WHATNOT. This is a very high recommendation in and of itself. Although it may not deliver- the writer of the wonderful MARRIAGE NOT DATING went on to deliver the clunker known as SHY BOSS. The ML is Choi Siwon who shines in comic roles - he played the SML in SHE WAS PRETTY and was the lead in MY FELLOW CITIZENS. Lee Da-hee was absolutely splendid in Search: WWW. The casting for this show looks really promising. I will be watching unless this show gets locked up by Disney+.

The upcoming weekender THREE SIBLINGS BRAVELY looks promising.

1. Dominant Species - Pass. While I like Joo-ji-hoon, I have rarely liked a Korean sci-fi yet.
2. Nonsensical Romance and Whatnot - Choi Siwon and Lee Da Hee! I am in.
3. The Acolyte - Disney. Pass.
4. Yonder - Sci-fi. Pass.
5. My Heart Is Beating - Sung Hoon in an action noir? I am giving it a shot if it is available in my region. I always feel he should do more action (films and serials both). I would love to see him playing a cop.
6. Three Brave Siblings - (Is this not the secondary tile of "The liberation notes") Lee Hana and Im Joo-hwan (hopefully in a well deserving lead role)? I am game.
7. Mental Coach Jegal - still not sure. It is on Viki though so I might still give it a chance. (The issue with Korean sports drama is the focus on corruption and external factor rather than the stories of triumph over their own shortcoming and complexes, that whole winning against all the odds set by your own self is my kind of stories)
