Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

missvictrix

Currently covering: Forecasting Love and Weather, Crazy Love

Twenty Five Twenty One: Justice for Na Hee-do! And then justice for Fake Penpal of Dramaland, Nam Joo-hyuk!

Business Proposal: This show continues to be everything I want and need. The level of ridiculous is perfect, and I love that they just won’t let a joke die. Tae-mu finding himself aflutter around Hari/Geum-hee is so much fun — I love them together. And any Bringing Up Baby fans out there? No one will be able to convince me that the ripped dress scene wasn’t a nod to this greatness.

Currently covering: Business Proposal

Twenty Five Twenty One: Ugh! Seeing Hee-do’s backstory with her father dang near killed me, especially after Yoo-rim tainted Hee-do’s gold medal win during their interview. I can empathize with Yoo-rim, but I’m finding it harder and harder to like her despite all the misfortunes she’s going through. It’s even more frustrating that she cannot practice the advice that she preaches to Hee-do via her online identity. Speaking of which, I’m not looking forward to the upcoming misunderstandings. I hope, at the very least, Yi-jin admits he isn’t her online penpal even if he doesn’t give up Yoo-rim’s secret.

Through the Darkness: After taking an extra week off to load up on light and fluffy drama content, I was ready to dive back into the darkness. It’s such a good drama with amazing acting, but it can zap the happiness out of you. But it’s a feeling that’s being mirrored in the plot of the show as Ha-young continues to delve deeper into the psyche of the killers he hunts.

While You Were Sleeping: Yoo-bum is a massive scumbag. I know he’s the main antagonist, but I’m so over him.

Currently covering: Through the Darkness, Grid

Business Proposal: Ahhh! This show is so swoony and cheesy and I LOVE IT. I never expected myself to enjoy a drama that’s so trope-filled, but this show is so self-aware and heartfelt in its execution that I’m fully onboard for the ride. It’s not afraid to fully lean into its tropes with unabashed abandon, yet it makes sure to be progressive instead of dated, which makes it such a fresh and magical watch. And squee! Tae-mu’s slowly falling for Hari! I love that you can see how he grows progressively more endeared by her. I mean, who wouldn’t love someone as sincere and earnest as Hari? Also, I’m absolutely loving the budding romance between Young-seo and Sung-hoon — too cute! That cockroach scene had me in stitches, heh.

CRICKET - interesting world cup matches going on but isn't getting much attention. google doodle that's it.
Last week i talked about how there was no promotion done for such a big tournament. Female world cup has no buzz on social media either.
Self-image buildup is routine now with announcements of investment as well as adding more countries. The current world cup is ignored but as soon as see some camera lofty words to speeches are ready.
Still, situation of female cricket looks better compared to football. Except cricket, tennis and badminton are the only sports where female participation generates some enthusiasm. And all 3 demand lot or resources. Sports of elites.

Korea - nothing much to talk about.

Chinese - dump the market strategy worked - not a single korean romance worth time. Chinese dramas are better return on investment now. Those garbage shows deserve no mention.

Kdrama writers always self-insert in heroine - Every 3rd heroine is struggling or aspiring middle class doing jobs still having hopes to achieve the dream of being a known writer. And in real life such ludicrous shows are getting investment and then broadcast. Surely there are many stories that are ignored and garbage of 2005 is right in the face. Name and networking -

Solar flare - i like the writer's shows - 10 episodes. 45 minutes. 1 episode per week are +ve points. 1st 4 episodes are stretched a bit but i like this progress - next 3 episodes have to decide the tone as well as the level - Time girl is now doing action to show hero is a real hero. Heroine is quite a good one.

Is this cricket really a sport that is broadcasted and do you really watch it this often??
I am asking just curious because I always read your headline, but never read what you comment about because I know nothing about cricket and if it was a drama about it, possibly I wouldn't watch it either 😅😅😅
But, if it is a sport thing, like watching football or baseball or tennis, I humbly respect that choice. If it is interesting for you, then good for you 😅🙋😊

BUSINESS PROPOSAL (Ep 3-4) Ha-Ri and YS are having an expressive good time with their characters. I like the idea of grandfather warming up to Ha-Ri almost immediately. (I think he sees through the awkwardness to know his grandson is scamming him with a “fake” relationship). I also liked Ha-Ri using Tae Moo’s own business principles against him in going forward with a fake relationship when a real one would have better long term results. Ahn Hyo Seop’s acting or lack thereof is still troublesome for me. The second lead double bump coincidence is over-the-top but expected for this drama’s tone.

However, the OTP humor seems to get muted when the story line romances start to turn serious. The secondary characters have made up some of that comedy loss. It is still a good show and rocketing up viewers attention as being this year’s hidden gem.

THIRTY, NINE (Hiatus/BTS scenes): After reading a week of reviews and comments, the consensus is that the show so far is not what most people expected or wanted it to be. Critics claim to much attention to SYJ character because of her fame/popularity,; the drama’s first main controversy was over romanticizing extramarital affairs; and some people even think that the Thirty Nine’s script is not worthy of such a quality cast. But with more BTS of the show’s filming, there appears to be more and more actor/director script changes that get put into the show. The uneven flow of the episodes could partially be result of the on-the-fly line changes.

I get that in friend circles you can have the alpha friend (Mijo), the beta friend (CY) and the other, quiet friend (JH). But the show was sold as three girlfriends TOGETHER dealing with the perils and events of reaching age 39. I also understand some comments that it is OK to have one character be the narrator of the story to give it some context, but Mijo puts the main story line out of balance and more focus on her alone. If the pivotal moment in their lives is CY’s cancer, then CY should have been the narrator. If not, then JH could have been the one to try to keep the other two from become unglued by emotions since she sees the world through innocent eyes.

The main question for most viewers is it worth watching the second half? Many think they are being manipulated by so many emotional scenes without a solid story foundation to support them. Many think the side stories are dull or distracting. A few thought how can Mijo think of a new romance when her best friend is dying? Is that why there is no real chemistry? It is hard to imagine a huge story turnaround to land a realistic or satisfying finish, but there is some hope since the cast is well liked and respected. Going forward with lower expectations, how bad can it get?

Filter Note: There have been comments about the over-use of camera filters. The last promo video, speed quiz with the cast, had a filter that made the actors into 2D ghosts and their clothes into pastel colors. It was very...

Twenty Five Twenty One: The aftermath of the gold medal match was heartbreaking. The grandpa’s recognizing and congratulating Hee-do was a beautiful moment.

Forecasting Love and Weather: I’d really hate to work with this foursome. So much tiresome drama. I hope things work out for Oh Myung-Joo and her family. I like her.

Business Proposal: I still love Grandpa, but I don’t care about the romance and a lot of the comedy doesn’t land for me. I’m glad the ML found out the truth because for a supposed genius, he was slow on the uptake.

Love (ft. Marriage & Divorce): Out of all of the characters, Lee Si-eun deserves to find happiness, but I wish her love interest wasn’t a creepy robot. I don’t find the “You were nice to me forty years ago, and I’ve basically been in love with you ever since” endearing. Ghost Gramps possessing the robot to hit on his wife was the sort of ridiculousness that I’ve come to expect from this drama.

Military Prosecutor Doberman: Making your kid hold a grenade to teach him a lesson is a whole nother level of horrible parenting. There were a couple of things that made me uncomfortable this week, but overall, I find it entertaining enough. The plot is utterly predictable but the actors and OST are good.

Kill Heel: I prefer female friendships to rivalries, but I’ll give it a couple more episodes. Kim Mo-ran is an interesting character. Woo-hyun’s kind of frustrating, but I felt for her regarding her marital issues and especially felt for her daughter. Slap count is at two. I expect it to go much higher as it feels like it will lean toward the makjang.

Young Lady and Gentleman: Finally, Young-guk gets his memory back and Se-ra is exposed. Unfortunately, I sense another short bout of noble idiocy coming. Se-ra better lose the baby because making her Dan Dan’s aunt would be too much. I’m so ready for this drama to end. This might have been the most repetitive and frustrating weekend drama I’ve sat through.

Weather - I like... the dialogues and how they show that the different history of the characters influences their different points of view. I also liked that this time Hakyung calls directly Donghan when she can't reach the meeting. Btw, Donghan and Shiwoo thinking how smartly they solved their homeless problems... 😄😄 And cranky Shiwoo... that's me in my PMS mode 😆🙈

Business Proposal - I like... that the main couple has a natural connection (over food). Though I'm mainly here for Kim Sejong and Haraboji 😁💕 and I love that the show makes me constantly grin 🙂 (the archaeopteryx hoovering above the phone never gets old 😂 )

If BP is warm and fluffy then Crazy Love is black and... crazy 😆 Some of the humour works for me (sprinkles 😂), some less... but I like... the overall craziness and I will definitely check next week episodes to see where we are heading to.

Thai F4 - I like... how they use a classic shoujo manga to make social commentaries. This version is much less fluff and much more stuff for thinking than usual (punitive or restorative justice?).
And then... then I see Kavin and Kanning together talking about flower patterns... and I swoon 💕 Yes, they should get more screen time 😍 ...and yet I'm amazed that even with so little of them we still see progress in their relationship.

25-21 - I didn't like... episode 7. It frustrated me enormously and not only I found the whole medal fiasco unfair to Heedo, but I just couldn't believe that all adults were so unprofessional!! The coaches, the press... everyone. The girls are just 17!! So yes, at one point it even got me a bit out of the story, because I just couldn't believe this could happen in reality.
Episode 8 was better for my nerves and I laughed when the ahjummas brought back the failed job interview 😄 (and when Yijin joked about how teenagers cannot spell 😂) I also like how the growing is accompanied by the growing feelings and awareness... And how can a moment be at the same time funny and *butterflying*? I'm getting back into my 17... 😊

I think it's interesting that you found the hubbub around the gold medal and the coach's/public's reaction to it unrealistic. After watching the Russian coaches at the 2022 Winter Olympics handle Kamila Valieva's poor final skate and the armchair Olympians criticizing Simone Biles for sitting out some gymnastics events last summer, this seems really realistic to me. Nations feel like they own their national athletes, and we especially love young, attractive athletes.

For me it was HOW the press conference was organised... and how Heedo was just thrown there... not that the sentiment was against her (even though my blood was boiling)... But I also fully admit that I'm not following sports (and I also didn't follow Olympics).

ONGOING
A Business Proposal - Love Lee Deok-hwa. He should play the Grandpa in all shows from now on. Totally thought of Bringing Up Baby in that scene too by the way!

Rookie Cops - Well that escalated quickly. I hadn't quite processed that this was the penultimate week so the sudden deluge of PLOT, from Tak dropping out of school to Daeil's accident, was a bit much.

Thirty-nine - Did not miss it.

Grid - The Ghost deciding to suddenly enter Sae-ha's domain voluntarily. Why? Ah the wait 😅.

Through the Darkness - Waiting to watch the finale today and believe me I'm on TENTERHOOKS!

Forecasting Love and Weather - I like the senior forecasters - their family lives are far more interesting.

Twenty-five Twenty-one - Ep. 8 was probably the weakest of the show so far for me. I hope the identity mix-up doesn't last long.

STARTED
Crazy Love - Very aptly named show. Liked Ep. 2 a lot. I'm in.

C-DRAMAS
Dropped The Autumn Ballad. Still watching Royal Feast.

Grid (Episode 4) - Mood: C
It took the intel team head so long before she even considered about the small boy who witnessed it all? At least, I’ve a feeling that she’s chasing the Ghost for the right reasons despite being shady, unlike the male director she talked with?

Business Proposal (Episode 3-4) - Mood: C-
How in the world does Tae Moo not recognise Ha Ri in the elevator or the promotional video? And she’s way too clumsy with her stuff: first it was her handbag, next her phone, then her wallet? Writer, besides learning that this is quite a lazy way of doing an identity reveal, please also know that childhood trauma is outdated, or that we shouldn’t have the 2nd female lead as a damsel in distress for the 2nd male lead to save, or that Min Woo having feelings for Ha Ri would be a really bad development? But I won’t deny that the contract relationship was fun to watch? And the preview looks good!

Twenty Five Twenty One (Episode 7-8) - Mood: D+
The show’s doing the age-old trick of villainising its 2nd female lead so that the female lead has her moment of growth amidst a period of turmoil. And is it really her’s when it came from the male lead who got the interview on a platter? I’m still not seeing any intention to develop Ji Woong and Seung Wan beyond guy with crush and moral support girl but it’s more frustrating to see scenes like the first love cliffhanger, the flying arm exerciser, Yu Rim’s family having debt again, or worst of all the Start Up 2.0 switcheroo? And there’s still the foreshadowing of the reporter-athlete conflict?

Crazy Love (Episode 1-2) - Mood: D
On one hand, it’ll be way too obvious if Mr. Nice Guy turned out to be the villain, but on the other hand, there must be a reason why he’s a lead. Maybe a love triangle? But honestly, it would be really cliche if such a male lead was endgame, even though that’s never stopped a mediocre writer. It’s interesting they showed the culprit but I’m guessing a fakeout?

Forecasting Love and Weather (Episode 7-8) - Mood: D-
What’s the writer thinking by making Ki Jun the centre of all the major developments: the meet-up at Ha Kyung’s home, the childish fight between him and Si Woo and his discovery of their relationship? And the preview is about his delusion and attempt to sow some discord? Dong Han: how will ever get closer with your family if you won’t even communicate?

Rookie Cops (Episode 13-14) - Mood: D-
I knew the writer wouldn’t be brave enough to kill off Seung Hyun because it’s always the nice guy who gets killed! Dae Il getting flowers for Han Na was the foreshadowing that prepared me in advance as I watched, because I realised that the other couple would face a roadblock as Tak withdraws from school. There’s still the finale but I doubt it’ll be better.

You know, I watched Imitation this week and it gave me a whole new perspective on BTS--I actually started feeling sorry for them! The whole grooming and exploitation by the agencies--the virtual indentured servitude until you make it big just seemed really oppressive. And as Imitation pointed out, that there are so few groups like BTS with the talent to really break through, and the fact all k-pop wannabees feel compelled to start so young, which for the girls, especially, makes them vulnerable to sexual exploitation--that part is really disturbing.

Anyway, I know well that in the history U.S. pop music there were plenty of exploitative agents/producers/record companies, so its not just k-pop, but its kind of depressing to contemplate, since I do enjoy the music.

Yes, I agree that there are lots of problems in kpop industry. There are stories about abusive contracts and companies witholding payment to artists. And most artists start at a really young age , where they are vulnerable to all sorts of pressures. And then, there's the scrutiny they are under, the stupid lookism weighing them down, the objectification, and the really slim chances these kids have of making it big and receiving compensation for their huge effort and sacrifices. As a fan I try to call out the stuff I find unacceptable and support the artists, but, yes, probably the whole system is wrong.
Still, I understand the necessity of starting training at a young age, very much like classical ballet dancers or athletes (I don't agree with making 14 year olds debut, though, but the fandom is starting to push back against that).

Actually, I see a lot of similarities between kpop industry and the sports world, where people go through strenuous training and get propelled into huge fame at a very young age. And I get it that what makes performances so great us the whole machine behind the artists - the producers and choreographers, costume and stage designers, and a long list of other professionals. Unfortunately, this means a small number of big companies are bound to dominate the field, a bit like a small number of football clubs dominate the sport - in the end, it's corporations sucking the air away from smaller entreprises.
Still, I love kpop. I never stop to be amazed by the high quality of the performances. I admire these kids' hard effort and earnestness, and, to be totally honest, I also love the delicious cheesiness of much of it 😋
About bts as individuals, there's no way of knowing wether they are happy with their astronomical success and by being Hybe's cash-cow. I guess it was never their dream to be flogging overpriced pyjamas and moodlamps to fans, but I hope they feel happy with all the recognition and love they receive from fans. I live in a small town in a timezone 8 hours away from SK, and people where cheering and sending love to a screen for over 2 hours

The standard Korean-artist agency model is a combination of the worst of Old Studio Hollywood servitude contracts and music industry charge back accounting schemes.

It is getting a little better. Most artists do not renew with their original agencies. They get a lawyer and a decent second contract elsewhere so they can actually make some money.

Exploitation is the name of the game for entertainment industries around the world. While I am sure there are still plenty of young people who are interested in entertainment careers in Korea, when a man on the street interview asked young Koreans if they wanted to try for a K-pop career, only one was tempted. Even though others thought they might have some talent, they realized even debuting is doubtful and then being successful even more a roll of the dice. I was actually amazed at how they realized this but there was a fear of wasting their youth on unrealized dreams.

So, no, for k-pop but a big yes for being You Tubers! That was their main interest.

I had the same reaction to Imitation, and I'm someone who is completely indifferent to kpop. But it's hard not to feel for these people who appear to have everything (fame, adoration, wealth, success) but who, in reality, may feel like they have nothing (no privacy, personal relationships beyond with bandmates, autonomy, creative license). If you're not successful, you're quickly disregarded, but even if you do hit it big, you have to watch out for predators and leeches.

Crazy Love So every terminated-ill woman in KDrama wants to take someone with her in her final journey.

Business Proposal It's fun. I still hear Haram and it's weird, but the girls are fire. When I watch the BTS or their interviews, the girls are doing all the work :p

Military Prosecutor Doberman I'm behind but the doberman is still the cutest in the BTS.

Thirty-Nine I didn't really miss it.

Through the Darkness I just realized there will be only 12 episodes 😭

Twenty Five Twenty One Yoo-Rim and Hee-Do are just teenagers and both are struggling in their own way. Neither of them deserve hate.

Forecasting Love and Weather The 4 leads are so immature and inappropriate in their job, it's frustrating to watch.

The Rookie Cops I don't think the title is right, they're not cop or acting as cop at all.

Grid It would be nice to have more answers, the story is so slow...

F4 Thailand The redemption arc was good.

I do I do (EP 3): The leads are hilarious together, the second lead seems cool. Show looks fun.

My Golden Life (EP 29): I skip a lot lol that's how I got this far.

The dudes in this show are so creepy and annoying. The FL has really bad luck with man, I would get a restriction order for both of them (ML and SL) tbh.

I really like maknaes and the newlyweds (I'm still watching because of them).

And Ji Soo's love for bread! she's literally me eating bread for the three meals of the day. I like her scenes with her master too (I don't like the master's subplot tho he's just another stalker trying to control his love interest just like the male leads).

I broke down and started watching the new shows that I was going to save, but the one my wife and I definitely don't regret starting is Business Proposal. As @missvictrix points out, its classic screwball comedy in kdrama format. Since I've seen everyone of those Hollywood films about 30 times, I'm really enjoying this one, although Kim Se-Jeong is a much better comic actor than Ahn Hyo-Seop. But that's okay--he just needs to be something of a straight man for her antics. I don't know how well the format will hold up over 16 episodes though--I hope the writers don't get sappy about family trauma.
The other one we started was 25-21. Of course I'm rooting for Na Hee-do, but I am kind of interested in the subtheme of male emasculation caused by the financial crisis, symbolized by the very funny peeing boy statue scene. I'm a little worried about what that is foreshadowing, though--pregnancy and then abandonment since there doesn't seem to be a Dad around in the present day? There are a lot of missing fathers in this one already!

Always amazed at the sheer amount of dialogue Kate had to spout in that entire film (btw - Baby is a pet jaguar). Kdrama writers could spin off many comedies by mining Katherine Hepburn's filmology.

Although I like all the Hepburn comedies one that I think would be perfect for Kdrama is Pat and Mike, where Hepburn plays the dominant female athlete and Spencer Tracy plays her agent. (I especially loved the ending.) It would fit so well because Korean women are so dominant on the world golf scene. Of course, Hepburn was a great athlete herself, and was able to be quite credible as an accomplished golfer and tennis player--its probably hard to find a current actress with those skills. But still, since there are so many kdramas that feature sports I'm surprised that this hasn't been done. (Maybe it has, though, and I just don't know it.)

Well--maybe not Farewell Amanda. Its a pretty weak song. But as I recall that's played as a kind of joke as well. I haven't seen Adams Rib in a long time. The end scene where Spencer Tracy cries would certainly be no problem for any of the K-drama male actors!
One problem I could see for me in converting some of these screwball comedy movies is what you mention above--how much rapid-paced dialogue there is, which contains all sorts of word play and, as I recall in Adams Rib, a lot of double entendre. In K-rom coms I think I miss about half of the jokes, unless they are kindly pointed out by the subtitlers, which doesn't happen much with Netflix.

ADAM'S RIB is such a classic- really it would be great if it could be done as a kdrama.

2

I’d go for The Philadelphia Story, I think a chaebol divorced pair getting back together would be a cinch, esp w her nutty little sister and the playboy uncle. Plus the muckraking journalists after a scandal, it’s a natural! Of course, Cary Grant didn’t appear to come with his own mother to be the crazy MIL 😄

I thought a different scene in BP echoed Bringing Up Baby, too! The obnoxious male co-worker showing everyone his tiger boxers framed by his coat was visually similar. Watching that small clip made we want to squeeze in a BUB watch, soon. You can't beat classic Cary Grant.

Every week I wonder, should I start Grid now? Then I read all the comments about how it's hard to have only one episode a week and I just give up...6 more weeks of waiting it is then! xD
(Also who knows, maybe by then D+ will decide other regions can watch it too?!??!)

That aside, I'm watching 25-21 and I'm enjoying it a little more every week, though I'm still not quite as invested as many watchers are, it's just fine, for me. Which is great tbh, so the wait between episodes does not bother me too much! xD

I also started Someday or One Day this week and honestly I don't get the hype (..must be the trend this year for me? lol).
I found the first couple of episodes to be far too slow, then it picked up a little (I'm on ep 5 now), but I'm still not really fond of the constant switch between different timelines; it makes it harder to get invested..I guess it's not my thing.
But it's fine enough, I'm curious to see how it goes on, so I will not drop it.

Lastly, I gave Mad for Each Other a shot and it was nice!
Had some issues with it when I inadvertently skipped not just one, but two whole episodes and started to wonder why the writing became so much weaker suddenly lmao! xD Anyways!!
The last episode was kinda meh, but the overall show was good!

Side note..so, some time ago Netflix decided it would be a good idea to change the way they release shows for us poor Europeans (well, Italians at least) and I'm not happy!
They used to make dramas available in full a week after they'd end their run in Korea...while now they will release them weekly starting some time through the original airing period: for instance Business Proposal will start on April 4th, 2 eps a week (I'm assuming)...not cool, Netflix, I feel left out! :( ..better than nothing I guess!

I loved Someday or One Day, but am also excited to see how the kdrama re-interprets the original. My one main point of skepticism is AHS playing Greg Hsu's role. The latter was so, so good, it's hard for me to imagine anyone else playing that role, let alone AHS, who I liked in "Still 17" and even "Abyss," but who still seems very green even after years in the industry. I'm wondering if the tone of this re-make will be more comedic than its predecessor.

1

I started and stopped Someday or One Day a couple of times because I was underwhelmed in the face of all the hype. But, I will tell you, there came an episode several episodes in where I actually said out loud, "Oh! This is why everyone loves this show!" I takes a bit, but it really clicks and is well worth they hype as it comes together.

Stay firm on resisting Grid. Everytime WWW thread rolls in every Saturday, I forget I even watched Grid this week and it's only been 3 days. That's saying sth, the one episode a week format isn't helping this show at all. I'm hoping it will be fruitful somehow. 2 are also less. Netflix-esque format ofreleasing all episodes a day is what would've really benefited it. And I felt sth similar for SD1D too, while I struggled with the show, it does reach a point where the patience pays, however. You are still not there.

MILITARY PROSECUTOR DOBERMAN: Still watching, mostly for the FL and the adorable dog, but I was disappointed this week with the casual racism in the (unnecessary) NYC scene and overall, with the way the show is handling the aftermath of the gang rape. The latter is clearly just a plot device, but the fact that not only the villains (the chairman, his lawyer, and his mother) have zero concern or guilt over this horrendous act, but also our good guys (Do Bae Min for one, and his sidekick), is hard for me to square with the righteous sense of justice that's at the core of the show. The FL is the only one out there who seems cognizant of the horror of what the victim went through, but even she is focused mostly on how this situation can bring Do Bae Min to her side in seeking revenge for her father. To that end, I'm not sure repressed memories about who was responsible for his parents' death are enough to make me forget that DBM was excited to help a totally repulsive rich guy avoid justice for raping and filming someone.

BUSINESS PROPOSAL: What else is there to say other than that everyone involved is clearly having fun so I am, too? Even the ML's wooden acting isn't taking anything away from my enjoyment of these two--and their best friends--falling in love. I'm also glad he found out the truth so quickly. With only 12 episodes, I didn't want that misunderstanding to drag out.

CRAZY LOVE: As ridiculous as BP, with a little more angst thrown in thanks to the terminal illness plot (which, surprisingly, I don't mind in this context), yet just as fun. The deadpan humor complements the over-the-top plot, and I love that I have no idea how these two could possibly fall in love.

F4 THAILAND: Went back to this to catch up. I'm impressed with how they reckoned with Thyme and F4's dark past. What they did to their victims was awful, and it was good that the show didn't shy away from it. At the same time, they were able to slide right back into the lighthearted hijinks and romance right after without it feeling too jarring. Impressive.

FORECASTING L&W: I like the main romance because the leads are honest with each other, and I think they have believable chemistry, but I realized that my favorite scenes are those between PMY and YP. There's so much going on under the surface--especially from him--and I appreciate the way she puts him in his place without either humiliating him or herself. The drama is shaping up to be more about his growth than I was expecting, but I'm down for it.

This is a fair criticism of MPD. The mugging scene actually made me laugh cynically, because they would have just shot her in real life, so there is that. As for the rape, I have yet to see a drama that handles the aftermath of rape in a proper manner. I appreciate that they at least paid a little lip service to how it will affect her the rest of her life.

Crazy Love: I was half way through and looking at my phone, so I just let it go.

Business Proposal: This drama continues to be delightful. I am so glad he knows now though. It dispenses with the lie between the couple early. I really appreciate that.

Military Prosecutor Doberman: I love prosecutor Cha. I like that she had a plan from the beginning and didn't deviate. I appreciate that she was the smart one too. Go Jo Bo A, what a fun role for her.

Kill Heel: I love Kim Mo Ran. She is the best part of this drama.

Rookie Cops: This show went FAR left in the nth hour. Then my favorite died. That was awful. So two episodes left and I have no idea what is going to happen.

Through the Darkness:I am happy and sad that this is ending. What a wonderful drama. KNG nailed it.

Twenty Five Twenty One: I really really hope they clear up the misunderstanding early. That is all I have to say.

Hooked on CRAZY LOVE, but only after episode 2. Loved the wink towards Matt Damon as cleaner/math genius Good Will Hunting and the other one towards Sandra Bullock as fake fiancée in Whilst You Were Sleeping. Throwing onions, the fight in the car, running, ghostly make up.... beautifully weird and crazy. Se-gi is of cause deeply suspicious!

Glad that Hari's real identity is now revealed in BUSINESS PROPOSAL, it was getting a bit repetitive with Hari's frankly not very convincing attempts to hid her face. Great fun watching this drama. Also DOBERMANN.

Hee-do's mother would not get the mother-of-the-year award from me. It is normal for teenagers to lack in communication abilities, but her mother should really have explained the moral dilemma, how difficult it was for her to say these things live on TV and explain why she thought it was necessary. A minor gripe about Hee-do, she is supposed to be 18/19 years old, but her behaviour is that of a much younger person, hopefully that will change, soon.

Love THROUGH THE DARKNESS, but also do not regret that the finale is this weekend. Enough of studying of what triggers serial killers.

Last word about SNOWDROP. After reading several articles about the recent Korean election I have have to take back my comment that the plot with the politicians wives and the shaman was far fetched and over the top. It looks now that this was the most realistic plot in the drama. I wonder, if the new Korean president's wife is really going to relocate the guest rooms in the Blue House as her shaman recommended. What can I say - life can be as strange as fiction after all.

I think Heedo is around 17 (Korean age is 1-2yrs more than the actual age). Even then I also often find her behaviour more corresponding to younger age... but then this is 1999... and she was only focused on her fencing... so maybe she is just a late bloomer...

Your comment on Snowdrop reminds me that I read a review of it a few weeks ago that named a specific, real-life incident and conspiracy theory around it that was the impetus for that shaman plot. So as you say, I guess it wasn't as far-fetched and silly as I first believed.

Re Snowdrop and the political realism. I'm continually gobsmacked at how many dramas reflect rl events both in politics, legal cases, controversies about the prosecution and the judiciary, and the business world (and I'm not even beginning when it comes to historical fiction). Real life in SK provides a deep well of dramatic happenings. Accusations of shamanistic influence on the wives of politicians provoke memories of the cultish influences on Park Geun-hye, an era no one wants to be repeated.

It's foundational. On top of that, apart from traditional religion, which has played a huge role in standing up to the dictatorships and the military regimes, there are numerous cults, some v dodgy indeed. The first outbreak of covid in the country was brought in by a cult. They would not or could not reveal their members and that made it almost impossible to trace contacts. Rich material for films and dramas. Too many to reference.

BUSINESS PROPOSAL is far better than I expected. We are loving this a lot. Making the second leads a second romance- even as they interact with and help to advance the story of our OTP- has been a stroke of genius: In addition to an OTP why not an STP? In fact, the second leads are a better fit for each other than our first leads- but of course they face hurdles starting with what the SFL did to the FML resulting in the SML is not giving the SFL the time of day even though she is: A. Beautiful, B. Sexy and C. totally smitten with him. This is what happens when you mess with someone’s ‘brother’. Meanwhile the ML has finally discovered who the FL really is- so this week we will get to have that fun trope known as ‘Chaebol getting his revenge against the young lady who has played him for a fool (even though he is already falling for her)’. Sure this has been done before- but so what? This show is remarkably well written. And, MissVictrix, I think that this show has captured the spirit of a 1930s Howard Hawks or Preston Sturges comedy and, indeed, that scene from BRINGING UP BABY was a classic.

FORECASTING LOVE & WEATHER is still one of our favorite shows. Instead of a romcom about how the couple gets together we have a drama about how and whether they can remain together. It is not your standard fare and that is good.

KING OF TEARS is still a very good show- we are now at the halfway point. Still written like a Shakespearean tragedy or history play.

My wife is a fan of Gumiho’s (really- we have pictures of foxes around our house). She enjoyed the short 6 episode Chinese costume drama THE FOX FAIRY and then decided to watch MY GIRLFRIEND IS A GUMIHO which is probably the most classic version of a gumiho story.

She and I are also enjoying the C-drama romcom LEGALLY ROMANCE. It is well worth watching.

The second amnesia has ended in YOUNG LADY AND GENTLEMAN. Jo Sara is toast. But now what? The writer made a real mess and now the question is how to clean it up? With only four episodes to go?

I have not told her yet. The rock is close to Tokyo so if the legend is true we may see some further developments... OK, it is just a story but still it is a fun one.

We have pictures of foxes around our home but only one representation of gumiho - or rather a kitsune, the Japanese version of a fox-spirit. It shows a kitsune sitting atop a ceremonial gate looking at Mount Fuji, with her tails spread out below her.

It should be noted that there are in fact thirteen kinds of kitsune in the Shinto folklore, and the most powerful are actually benevolent in nature, but there are evil ones as well. THE FOX FAIRY is actually based upon this idea- a fox spirit transforms into a beautiful woman in order to marry a man whom the heaven's wish to bless.

But good or bad, what makes the fox spirits fun is that they are always mischievous in nature.

A PIECE OF YOUR MIND: Having finished this drama, the things I loved were the warmth, the boarding house and the OST. The thing I did not love so much was the dwelling. Yes, this was a show about healing. But they really took the guilt trip on In-wook way out of line. He was not responsible for Ha-won's mothers death. As I ranted on this in last week's post, I'll not repeat myself. But instead, I would have liked to see the dealing of Seo-woo's trauma through the device. I felt the story lines were quite unconnected and this would have made a nice bridge between them. In the end, I felt she healed through empathizing too much with everybody else's trauma and this made me roll my eyes at her actions a lot through the final couple of episodes.

TRUE BEAUTY: Another show I managed to finish this week and it was so cute! It was far from perfect but it stayed interesting throughout and some of the characters will remain with me for some time. The OST was also among the best I've heard.

BUSINESS PROPOSAL: Dropped this for numerous reasons and started re-readingbut at least my persistent fantasy of Park Seo-joon as male lead led me to start ITAEWON CLASS as my new breakfast show. It's been on my watch list for some time so I'm happy this pushed me into hitting that play button.

SCHOLAR WHO WALKS THE NIGHT: I finished the first episode and although the cringe may be strong at some points, there is absolution in the fact of how insanely hot Lee Soo-hyuk is as a vampire.

F4 THAILAND: Holy smokes, this is great! During that rainy scene, when I was expecting that leaning hug and Thyme just threw away the umbrella and started fighting with Gorya, I knew I was gonna love this. The inclusion of social media in the school bullying was genius and showed great reflection of today's society. I tell you, I'm so fearful of the day my kids come asking for smartphones and start hanging around social media. I hope to be able to impart some good sense into them before that happens.

Business Proposal remains the show I look forward to the most. I'm laughing and waiting for more every week. Kudos to the writing/acting/production teams. More screwball comedies, please!
Through the Darkness is riveting but necessary. In our twisted world there are people who glorify the predators and dismiss the victims. This drama presents the serial killers as the pathetic losers they are.
Enjoying the unpredictable OTP path in Forecasting W & L. As others have wisely observed it is more about staying together than getting together. The staying is the hardest part.
Clicked on a whim Love is Blind Japan and got hooked. Initially wanted to compare/contrast with the Korean Dating Inferno but it's a different "reality" show in a different culture. What unites the two is the Confucian patriarchy mores that flavors relationships with rigid male v female roles. Still madly addictive, though.

Twenty Five-Twenty One

I'm loving the interactions between the girls, even if its all negative. I honestly don't get the hype about Nam Joo Hyuk in this one, because being a clumsy idiot at your job isn't anything to brag about. Hee Do's mom is doing better at the job thing. Yi Jin should learn from her. I do love Nam Joo Hyuk in The Nurse Files. It hit me in all the right spots so don't fight me saying that I don't like him. I do. His characters in Nurse Files and Weightlifting Fairy was so perfect. The fight for the gold medal was childish but after all, the girls are children. They're pressured too much. Just like how the National Coach was preferring Yoo Rim to Hee Do, I felt like their school Coach preferred Hee Do to Yoo Rim. Or maybe it was just me. Anyhow, I still haven't watched today's episode.

Forecasting Love and Weather

In this too I don't understand the hype Song Kang gets. Is he just a pretty boy like Nam Joo Hyuk? But afterall, I haven't watched the Neverthless yet. I've only seen him in Love Alarm and I've decided that he's not my type. Meanwhile Park Min Young is one of my favorite actresses but I do have to say that they do have some intense chemistry. But why is Ki Jun still in the drama? He's annoying. Him and his wife. They should just leave the country or something.

Business Proposal

Now this is a drama that knows how cliche the scenes are but still goes full on. And it doesn't disappoint. The cockroach scene had me giggling like an idiot and I usually laugh at dark jokes. But the chemistry between all four characters are so amazing that even if I can predict most of the scenes, I just end up enjoying all of it. I just wanna close my mind and sit and enjoy. The laughs in this are real.

Batman

Okay, so not Korean, but I watched the latest Batman movie today and I'm blown. Not to give out any spoilers, but I watched this just after seeing the trailer once and I came back and watched the trailer like fifty more times. It was that enjoyable. The gritty, real and dark take on the classic DC hero is ten times worth watching because it's Robert Pattinson and only seeing him after his quite disappointing portrayal of a certain vampire, I'm completely impressed. And a little bit in love too. I can't stop talking about this movie. You have to watch it to understand why Batman had to be remade to fit a genre only that movie can be in. Ten out of ten, just for the action.

I'm surprised Business Proposal wasn't about you not understanding Ahn Hyo-seop's hype. Those three have varying degrees of acting abilities, but clearly all started out as actors because they're pretty.

Hee Do's mom is doing better at the job thing.

She should when she's been doing this for 20 years, while Yi-jin is a trainee. Hee-do's mom is good at her job but lacks compassion, while he's not good but has compassion -- it balances out. Still, I will always lament what a waste it is he became a reporter when he was studying aerospace engineering.

Ah yes, Ahn Hyo Seop's hype. I forgot to mention it because the drama was overall such a hoot to watch. I just let it play out because I have nothing to think about, nothing to analyze or scorch my braincells out, and maybe that's why I overlooked his pretty boy looks and the hype. But I have watched more of his dramas than Song Kang's and I do like how he acts. He usually gets romantic aspects, but I adored him in Still 17, as the main male lead's nephew. Plus he did a phenomenal job in Dr. Romantic 2.

Sure, Hee do's mom does lack compassion and sometimes empathy, but I do feel like she's doing all these to ensure that Hee Do has a safe and comfortable life. After watching the latest episode, it dawned on me that she was looking after Hee Do because she does love her. I also want to watch a segment where both Hee Do's mom and Baek Yi Jin are doing a joint something. Just anything. I think it will be amazing. And maybe watch her save him from any fire in his direction?

I do feel super bad that Yi Jin's abilities and studies to continue in the path he desired, which is aerospace engineering is completely wasted. While I don't see him getting back to it in the near future, it also looks like he's not that famous, because Hee Do's daughter doesn't exactly know him outside from her mother's diary, and her grandmother's nudging. But that might also be because she doesn't watch the news? I do feel bad about it. And after watching today's episode I realized why he was so hyped. His acting is quite amazing here. The way he can speak through his eyes is a very limited ability. But still I prefer his characters in Nurse Files and Weightlifting Fairy.

3. Through the darkness: Watched around 5 ep and I am loving it. I like how the main lead isnt like the normal police officer's portrayed in k-drama land with so much violence. He is calm, sensitive , introverted and just in his own world and his own style he solves it.

Twenty-five Twenty-one: I was watching this last weekend and my middle school daughter sat down to watch the fencing scenes with me. She’s hooked now and I am forbidden from watching further episodes without her. I love that this is a drama we can share. A direct quote after watching a scene with Nam Joo-hyuk, “He’s really good looking.” Out of the mouths of babes!
Through the Darkness: Watching the spiral of emotional fatigue last week was rough, but I am looking forward to seeing how it all concludes this week. This has been such a well acted show, and I’m going to miss it. I’d watched the Raincoat Killer doc and knew some about the killers profiled, but this show has sent me down quite a few gruesome Wikipedia rabbit holes.
Business Proposal: This is like the anti-Through the Darkness. It’s so bright and goofy! I’m loving it and all it’s tropey glory. The grandpa not playing the pat rich, evil elder is I think the thing I like the best. I’m so sick of rich, evil characters. I’m along for the zany ride and can’t wait for more of it on Monday. I’m glad they are moving forward with the big secret reveal this early in the show. I want to get it out of the way.
A Piece of Your Mind: My husband and I were reading about the movie After Yang and one of the articles mentioned that it was a rare story that blends slice-of-life with A.I. He looked at me and said that this seems like something Kdramas would do well. He’s not wrong. APOYM popped to mind instantly, so we decided to watch (for him) and rewatch (for me). It’s slow going at first, but It’s great for this cold season heading into spring.

Forecasting: I think I am liking this way more than most. This is actually an ensemble drama of messy people. I really like it. Usually dramas like this are all about the leads but I have a thing about fully realized secondary characters. All these couples have baggage. The conversation of the leads about the living together issue. The second couple about finding out more details of previous relationship and watching the insecurities grow. The older couple who can no longer communicate at all. The moment the daughter says, "Just get a divorce" and the look on mom's face. That realization that things are perhaps way worse than her being irked at a clueless husband ...and him being a totally clueless husband. They are all a mess and it makes for satisfying and, yes, frustrating storytelling.

39: This is what happens when you have a trio girlfriend story but one of the actresses is a star. She gets all these impactful moments but it makes no sense in the storytelling. It's 12 episodes and I'm sticking with it because stuff does happen. I'm not bored and I'm actually interested in what the gal who quit her job is gonna do.

Business Proposal: It's cotton candy and every girl needs dessert now and again.

Through the Darkness: I was gonna drop because I've seen this genre done better and it is pretty tired but that actor is really good and it is only 12 episodes. I'd be done if it was 16.

25/21: I am stalled around episode 4. I don't know why but I'm not gonna force it.

Ghost Doctor: Still charmed. I was thinking that Rain and Lee Joon Gi are both handsome actors who can do self-deprecating and be funny and that made me wish LJG would do something more lighthearted but doesn't look like it is gonna be any time soon.

A Business Proposal - trying to keep myself from reading the webtoon. Almost feel bad for the cockroach, he was just falling in love. Except, you know... cockroach.

Royal Feast - its quite sad she's no longer in the cooking department. YYF just being grumpy is giving me SLS. 😍

F4 Thailand - the writing is darker than I excepted. Almost want some therapy PPL just to point out that maybe its better to talk to someone than violence. It was nice tho that the F4 did apologize.
Sometimes I also wish focus was given to the entire set. Its funny when they're supposed to be a bunch of angry guys but they're just standing around staring and doing nothing.

Forecasting Love and Weather: I like the drama portrays its characters beyond just the leads. The drama gives everyone more than surface-level emotions and makes them feel like real people who don't exist just for the leads. Even the cheating assholes. I was choked up seeing the whole ozone/taking complaints as part of the job part. The sister and Ha-kyung's coworker not-yet-budding romance is hilarious.

Twenty Five Twenty One (caught up!): Just so good!! UGH I'm so in love wih Baek Yi-jin who just handles everything with such grace. Na Hee-do is sort of unrelatable to me but she definitely makes me sympathize so hard and make me root for her. I'm rooting for the Na Hee-do and Yoorim friendship so hard.

Business Proposal: My weekly LOL. I'm torn between feeling bummed that Hari got found out because I like how she's able to pull one over the cocky smartypants CEO and relieved because those close calls were making me anxious. I am a little bummed that the secretary was not the lovey-dovey guy from the webtoon, but I think the way they have him now though gives the 2nd leads bigger roles in the drama.

Crazy Love: An okay start. I felt like it could have been better if the first week moved at 1.5 speed. I hope the female lead takes the utmost advantage of the amnesiac boss because he is just terrible. REVENGE!

It’s been ages since I watched anything currently airing, and here I am watching two - BUSINESS PROPOSAL which is nice and fun and light, long may that last; and CRAZY LOVE which was slow to get started but kicks off nicely in the second episode. I hope they can sort the pacing out because it should be zippy but was quite ploddy in parts in the first episode.

Because This Is My First Life🐌🏠🐈(12/16): This third quarter was filled with steps towards romance for our OTP. From solving the Bok-Nam misunderstanding through memorable in-law meetings with the legendary Ajumma pants, sealed with some real kissing and a sleepover request. Sang-Gu and Su-Ji are a lovely pair as well, but he has to respect her boundaries and she should learn to be a bit more open and vulnerable with him. As for Won-Seok and Ho-Rang, I actually liked the narrative of them breaking up because such occasions are part of life and I have not been able to root for them. I do know how that story is going to end, so I guess I’ll just endure their scenes from now on.🤔

F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers⭐(12/16): How am I able to summarize the last couple of episodes when the last one has so much good stuff to mention?! Lita lost my love for a bit with her Hana 2.0 attitude, especially since her original anime counterpart was anything but the evil second female lead. Then the scene with her parents happened, and I bet I was as touched as Thyme was. Speaking of Thyme, our boy did it! Kavin and Kaning got some serious development as well, and MJ continues to be the star of both his KFC spinoff and my heart!😘

Twenty-Five Twenty-One🤺(8/16): The four episode rule really is a thing, Beanies. It took all of my willpower to press play on the first quarter because of the episode length and how behind I was. All it took was two Sunday afternoon binges to not only get caught up but hooked as well! I do worry about how platonic or romantic I want our OTP to be. There should be more platonic relationships of that quality in both drama land and in real life. Then again, Nam Joo-Hyuk is magical as Baek Yi-Jin and I cannot help but read romance between the lines as a result. Somebody else who deserves praise is Bona. Her character Yu-Rim is not the most likeable at the moment, but this role is a lot meatier than what I have seen from her so far and I believe that is something the actress can be proud of.👍

A Business Proposal🦤(4/12): Roll up those sleeves and inject this trope fest right into my veins! I was prepared to lower my expectations in exchange for some well needed light entertainment, but do I actually have to go that far? The show is a trope fest and fully embracing this identity, which might actually work in its favor. Having Lee Deok-Hwa among the cast members does not hurt either. I started reading the manhwa and I must say that I prefer our main couple and the plotlines of the drama version. I hope our secondary couple will follow in their footsteps soon, because I do not like the noble idiocy of our cute secretary!😤

39. Not sure I will push through with this. It’s just sort of “there” for me.
Forecasting. As much as I love everything related to the main character, Weather, dropped. I can’t stand the OTP, as it turns out.

25-21. I love it, I like all the secondary characters except for the newscaster Mom. Ok, she can leave her heart and her ethics at the front door when she enters the TV station but I need some explanation as to why she’s so hard on her daughter.

Business Proposal. What the heck, so dumb and I actually dislike all but three characters yet this is the one I can’t wait to see more of. Love Grandpa and can’t wait to see when he learns that his future GIL (granddaughter-in-law) has walked right out of his favorite drama, chicken shop and all 😆 I’m starting to think that the stiffness and lack of personality of the ML is a deliberate acting/directing choice so that he has room to change as he falls in love and thaws out in later episodes 🤞🏼

39 is my new hate watch, or maybe annoyance watch. I fast forward like crazy since I only care slightly about 2 characters. It's not at all what I wanted.

You are so right with BP, grandpa is going to love her even more when he realises she is straight out of one of his dramas, and what a perfectly executed self referential trope that will be.

If he spends even one moment in the “this girl and her family aren’t good enough for my grandson” mode, I will be very disappointed 😬 Then again, her Mom is pretty hard to take!

Young Beanies, who may be trying to understand this fascination with black and white screwball comedies.
In the most depressing of times (the USA 1930's) these films provided the most essential human connection of shared laughter. We need shared laughter.
Secondly for me, these classic films were a link to my parents who grew up in the Great Depression of the 1920's and 30's.
My father, who was a man of very few words, would walk in while I was watching old B&W films. He could name every actor, even the minor players, and then would leave. How to get more father time?? Gee I need to watch more great old films.
In that moment my love for films/TV/plays was born. So when we old Beanies cite classic films like African Queen or Philadelphia Story or Rear Window - it comes from a place of love.
We have happily expanded our love of the art of film to include Kdrama.
I just last night watched Belfast which is nominated for an Oscar for best film. A family has to decide between raising children in a civil war or leaving everything they've ever known. It is in glorious black and white and is a wonderful film.
I bluffed my way into printing B&W in a professional photographic lab because I watched so many luminous early films that never needed color. Maybe writing and acting and filming are more important than CG or action sequences or color or ..., violence?
Just a suggestion - try it?

Well said 😁 Many of my favorite films are the old screwball comedies that bear the test of time. My parents thought I was goofy for watching movies that were old even to them but the films are just full of warmth and character development and, of course, the humor.
Another B&W oldie I recommend is “My Man Godfrey”, a hilarious rom com about a wealthy family and their mysterious new butler set in the Depression.

Getting this one out late, but at least I’m not missing the deadline entirely.

Business Proposal: I. Am. Obsessed. I keep rewatching the episodes whenever I have free time just because I literally cannot get this show out of my head. Like I said last week, it’s not very deep or meaningful, but my god it brings me such unadulterated joy and that’s hard to come by these days.

F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers: Well, colour me surprised. I genuinely didn’t expect this to deal head-on with the bullying and violence the F4 perpetrated pre-Gorya. That’s just not something the shows cared for. So imagine my shock when this adaptation actually does dedicate entire episodes to dealing with this - and handles the whole affair magnificently. There’s actual accountability from those power-tripping rich boys. That’s…incredible. God, this show keeps doing everything right. I’m so satisfied as a viewer and as someone who watched previous versions and was always left dissatisfied with how they brushed the violence of the F4 under the rug.

Grid: Lee So-yeon, please release more than one measly episode per week. Please, I’m begging you, it’s literally killing the momentum of the show. I like what I’m getting, but I want to get more.

Thirty-Nine: Sorry to all the actors, but this has become the show I watch if there’s nothing else to do. And since I’m exceptionally busy most of the time… Well I don’t think I’m missing much.

Through the Darkness: Kim Nam-gil, the man that you are. It’s draining to watch this show sometimes, but the writing and acting is so top-notch and perfect that missing it would be a shame. I don’t think I’ve seen a kdrama that handled procedure and profiling with such depth and precision ever before. A must watch from 2022, I’m already calling it.

Tracer: Still behind, but certainly not forgotten. Sorry Si-wan! I’m just very busy.

Twenty Five Twenty One: I know I rave about this show every chance I get, but for maybe the first time since episode 1, I’m kind of nervous. I don’t want any miscommunication to happen. Yi-jin should tell Hee-do that it isn’t him as soon as possible. The last thing I need is Nam Joo-hyuk to be in another romance under false pretences. Please don’t make me relive Start-Up *shudders*. Also I just want them to be twenty-one and twenty-five already.

Twenty Five, Twenty One: I was a little worried they were going to drag out the Injeolmi reveal for longer than it needed, but I need not have worried. This show knows what it’s doing and they mined it for just under half an episode and hit us with some feels. Their new dynamic was pretty fun and I’m looking forward to them being friends instead of enemies. Yi-Jins reaction when he thought they were acting was great. In fact the whole episode was a big relationship changer all around. New dynamics abound!

Crazy Love: I decided to check this one out despite the terminal illness trope and I liked how Krystal isn’t playing her usual type. I’m never really a fan of this kind of ML though. I know he’ll eventually become loveable (and in this case it’s going to be due to amnesia…sigh) but he treated his secretaries like absolute dirt and it’s hard to sympathize despite his pretty sad backstory. I’ll give this one a few more episodes, but it didn’t grab me and the tropes weren’t endearing like A Business Proposal has been.

I’m still watching other shows of course, but they’re mostly maintaining their quality without much fluctuation, for better or worse (Damnit Grid…your one episode a week is just torturing me).

Truth or Dare Funny fluffy light historical comedy with the adorable, gorgeous Li Geng Xi. I love her 😍

Yumi's Cell Too little has been said about it in my opinion. Beautiful and underrated.

Young Lady and a Gentleman No defects so far. It often makes me cry for joy.

*25-21*: my absolute favorite. I’m already calling it. Best drama of 2022! Good it didn’t drag the miscommunication.

*Business Proposal* - I didn’t expect to enjoy, but so far so good. Still it’s a good thing its just 12 eps.

*Though the Darkness* - a bit draining to watch but Kim Nam Gil is absolutely a virtuoso.

Probably my hate watches are *39* and *Forecasting*.

I find *39* stale, old fashioned and convoluted in logic. But Son Ye Jin is entertaining to watch

As for *Forecasting*, it has modern vibes and well paced. Alas, I wish I like Song Kang better. I just can’t get behind the OTP

The past few days have been so hectic with work and other engagements, that I did not get the energy and will to start any new show.

Twenty Five Twenty One: This was on my watchlist ever since it was announced on Netflix, so had to give it a try. So far it's quite entertaining and the characters are charming. Looking forward to watching more of it.

F4 Thailand: Who knew I would be addicted to a BOF series? So much so that I get super excited and fully charged up whenever Saturday comes after a long, exhausting week. It's been a while since I enjoyed a show this much. It's just so good! The highlights in the last two episodes were:
A satisfying redemption arc; F4 (mostly Thyme) taking accountability for their past misdeeds and making amends.
Lita being mean was frustrating to watch, although I could understand that she was coming from a place of hurt and anger. The scene where she was lying about why she did not like Thyme was heartbreaking. She seems to have good parents who actually care for her, so that's a relief.
Gorya and Thyme are finally a real couple! Yay!! Now that they are officially together with no external forces holding them back (well, except Thyme's mom), I can't wait for them to be lovey-dovey and more intimate.

After reading the manhwa of Business Proposal, I get lost in many titles afterward. Coming across "Cross the line", and I do like the story. Wondering if this may be turned into a drama.

Many people complaining about AHS's wooden acting in Business Proposal but has anybody realised this is the same guy who played Chan in 30 but 17? (Don't think, feel!!)
I think it is amazing he can portray two different characters so well that you find it hard to see it is the same person, even his voice is different in each drama.
Also, he is following the manwha description of his character in BS.
And, like @bbstl said, "the stiffness and lack of personality of the ML is a deliberate acting/directing choice so that he has room to change as he falls in love later". I haven't read the whole Manwha, but I agree. He has room for change.

Even if he doesn't change that much, he has a decent personality to begin with. How many dramas starts with toxic or bitter MLs and then have them change because of the clumsy but cheerful female lead??? Even bullies! Many male leads are practically a Lee Min ho in F4, and then change, but to me, the damage is done 😂😂😂
In business proposal, tae moo is simply a workaholic and aloof guy, but he is caring and well educated.

Anyway, I hope this drama keeps on being this good, because it makes me happy😀😀✌😊🙋
