Crazy Love: Episode 2 Open Thread

Things escalate quickly when our secretary finds out she’s short on time and full of vengeance for the boss that brought her to the breaking point. But rather than a straightforward act of revenge, our secretary and CEO find their lives, fates, and futures all in a giant tangle. Already.

Editor’s note: Coverage of this drama will continue with weecaps.

EPISODE 2 WEECAP

I can’t help but compare this drama to Business Proposal. Even though they’re tonally quite different, both shows lean into their tropes with abandon — Business Proposal with the cheesy hilarity, and Crazy Love with the weirdness, over-the-top theatrics, and tongue-in-cheek comedy. Both shows are super fun in their own way, and hooray, because I love fun shows that just go full steam ahead.

And full steam ahead is where we pick up in Episode 2: Shin-ah is back on the park bench processing her diagnosis and we’re treated to a hilarious-but-sad montage of all the grief Go-jin has given her over the past year. She (understandably) takes out all her terminally ill ire against him, but rather than the murderous intent we’re led to expect, she has something else in mind entirely. For instance, the ominous body bag is actually filled with onions, which she sets loose in Go-jin’s living room as if they were grenades. Instead of harming him with the hammer, she slaps him silly. Everything about this scene is so over-the-top hysterical, with its mock-seriousness.

And it just keeps going! Go-jin is furious with her and also flabbergasted, because when he yells, she now yells back at him louder, and even has hilarious lines such as, “You aren’t the only one that can throw things!”

Eventually Shin-ah tries to make a run for it back to her car, but the fight only escalates as Go-jin chases her through sprinklers (omg the music!) and back to her getaway car. They even have a scuffle in the car, which knocks off the black box (which will be important later). For some reason this fight isn’t hateful — the comedy rules the scene — whether it’s Shin-ah driving into every streetlamp or pole on her way off his property, or the fact that when she’s driving away she picks up his phone call and they fight some more on the phone as she flees the scene.

It’s important that she’s on the phone with him, though, because she catches the sound of what is an actual murder attempt of Go-jin. And, because she’s actually a nice and non-murderous person, she drives back to the scene and essentially saves his life.

In fact, it’s as if Shin-ah forgets entirely that she’s enraged at this man; she’s smeared with blood and mascara from crying like a fool over him, and waits anxiously for news of his successful surgery outcome. If she’s forgotten her anger against him, she’s also forgotten about her current health status — until a later phone call from the hospital reminds her that she has to admit herself for treatment.

While Go-jin is unconscious in his post-surgery coma and Shin-ah is at his bedside nursing him, we meet a new player: BAEK SOO-YOUNG (Yoo In-young). She’s drop-dead gorgeous, and has just returned to Korea to lead her family’s education company to greatness (and, I’m guessing, will be a direct threat to GoTop’s #1 spot).

But this isn’t the first time we’ve seen her… before Shin-ah turned up at Go-jin’s house with a hammer and a bag of onions, he was enjoying a glass of wine, stargazing, and imagining Soo-young curled up next to him. This definitely seems like a lost first love type situation. He leans over to kiss her, but because it’s all in his imagination, he tumbles off his chaise onto the floor. I love how this drama (and the entire cast!) just go all in for this comedy.

And another hooray: I actually really like Soo-young! She doesn’t seem like she’ll be the typical sophisticated second lead female antagonist. In fact, her first accidental encounter with Shin-ah is positively sweet. She accidentally spills coffee on Shin-ah, and then takes her up to her suite and gives her an expensive dress to borrow.

The two share a very sweet exchange, but as the camera goes back and forth between the two, suddenly the visual similarities between the women starts to crystallize. They both have the same shade of hair, the same waves, and now, Shin-ah is walking around wearing the beloved blue dress that Soo-young received from her first love. Uh oh!

As expected, the police are sure that Shin-ah is responsible for the hit and run, and rightly so, because all her actions, however innocent, don’t look that way on the black box footage, or when she tries to explain herself.

To add a further wrinkle, Go-jin finally wakes up, but Shin-ah is warned that there’s a situation. Go-jin has had a very uncommon reaction to the anesthesia, and though he’s awake, he now has… amnesia! “Like happens all the time in dramas?!” she asks, incredulous. To make it even more hilarious, Shin-ah is more upset that he won’t remember her night of revenge than she is about looking like a murderer. LOL!

As the episode ends, Shin-ah not only looks like the culprit, but does not have Go-jin’s memory to back her up with the truth. So what’s a girl to do? Shin-ah has a moment of inspiration and then announces to the doctor, her friend, and the cops, and whoever is around, that they’re engaged. She is Go-jin’s fiancée.

I did not watch episode 2 but was waiting for the recap so plenty thanks for it.

It's actually a CRAZY LOVE indeed. Amnesia and Fiancee hijacking! Beautiful tropes we have here. I'm in for it though 😌

That resignation letter cheek slap was.... what a way to destress on a soul sapping boss. Then the balls of onions, icing on the top. Crazy Love is interesting, and I'm gonna enjoy the hijinks both business proposal and this has to offer. Too many angst emanating from the shows on my watchlist.

Why the hell didn't she recall the phonecall she was having with Noh Gojin. All I was screaming was 'remember the phone call' but then Mr Noh Manners fiance, ride on show!

We also have to remember that she was told she has a tumor on the brain. That could be a reason she didn't remember.

Those cops are morons for not even bothering to look up her phone records. That is policing 101. Idiots.

or actually notice there was no blood on her car, or enough damage from hitting a person.

True. The tumor

The comedy was at the top, I couldn't be bothered by the cops glaring stupid naivety.

I think this is also mocking how in some cop dramas, they literally just target someone as the culprit based on some surface level evidence. I mean just when she got to the police station to be questioned, a guy was handcuffed away and saying he is not guilty and that they had no evidence haha..

That fight scene, and even the scenes where he is berating her, could have gone alot worst because kdramas love having men just beat the crap out of women.

I believe Kim Jae wook had a hand in how these scenes play out because dude doesn't strike me as the kind of actor who don't play that.

But yeah, this episode was hilarious.

And no talk of the driver of the car being revealed immediately.

Se gi left his phone at the office for a reason and not because he was absent minded.

And yeah, Soo young looked cold the entire time she was on screen. The wardrobe department needs to be fired.

Really insightful. You're right, that scene could have gone many ways if not for some intervention. It ended up as comedic relief and satisfaction instead of comeuppance and satisfaction.

I have a theory that Se Gi (too nice so definitely sus) actually hired a hitman to kill Noh Go Jin that night but even before the hitman made it, all these crazy events happened lol. Perfect alibi for Se Gi too as he was in the states.

It was revealed later in the episode that the instructor he fired hit and run on him but it looked out of impulsive anger. ML has been receiving death threats for a while so def someone else involved.

My money is on VP Oh as well. Did he instigate the fired instructor? Cause clearly the dude is regretting his stunt.

Seriously, him just leaving his phone knowing he was leaving the country. Plausible deniability to the max.

I enjoyed this episode more than episode 1, I think because more happened (a lot happened).

Knowing from the show concept that she was going to lie about being his fiancée made everything going on beforehand extra funny because you know it will all back up the lie even though it wasn’t intended to - like her extreme emotions when he’s in hospital (particularly when the doctor’s like “he doesn’t remember anything” and she’s all “but he has to remember, it was the first time!” when she means getting her own back, but they’ve just been asking her why she was there so late at night 😅)

The slap with the resignation letter! The onions! Amnesia *and* a fake fiancee! This show is so fun, and in a totally different way than "Business Proposal," so I'm excited to watch them simultaneously.

It's impossible for me to imagine these two falling in love, but I like that: I can't wait to see how the writers convince me that's what can and should happen.

Thank you for the weecaps!! You got everything spot on, the essence of all the events in this drama.

The resignation scene, cursing at Noh Go Jin, even his squeal when she raised the hammer, onion throw, chase scene and pulling hair scenes were done sooo well and so hilarious.

I love how chaotic second episode was and so I believe it will get even more chaotic going forward. I know lots of cliche and tropes introduced already but I enjoy how they are playing it out and there's going to be some plot twist for each of them, as they are clearly mocking these tropes.

I realize some scenes might not seem significant at first but will actually help play out the scenarios in the next episodes. As mentioned in the weecaps, how she is now faking as his fiance and that's believable as she was crying her eyes out in the hospital, was at his vacation late her night, and when she said "this was the first time..." I'm sure now everyone's going think what they were doing in the car LOL. Love love love the build up.

All the employees may even find their fake relationship believable because she worked for him for one year and they both went on vacation at the same time hahaha which is surprising.

The ex secretaries were so funny too, trying to get Lee Shina to quit? Lol like why have they become so obsessive with Noh Go Jin.

Finally, I think he is actually faking amnesia. This is going to be so funny as they both fake their situation but have to play the part and one up each other.

I want him to fake it too so he can one up Shina. It would make their situation more chaotic.
But her wearing the dress he gave his ex also seems like a recipe for trouble. So i am okay with him not faking it. Hopefully the amnesia bit (if its real) will not last longer than 2 episodes.

I heard in the initial premise of this drama that he pretends to have amnesia to protect himself and asks her to be his fiancee. I don't know if that's changed or it's meant to be a secret.

My fave scene is that resignation letter slap! So satisfying to see!

This show is tropey in a good way. I like it.
The police in charge is ridiculous in accusing Shina with flimsy evidence to back it up. So what is a girl to do? Delve herself further in trouble that is.. 🤣

Segi is sus but so is the ex, Soo Young, though. Both of them have a lot to gain with NGJ out of the picture. The disgruntled former employee may just be a pawn of one or both of them.

Looking forward to the shenanigans and waiting for GoJin to regain his memory asap. Its better that he is aware and bickering with Shina all the way. Looking forward to what more trouble Shina can get herself into.

I never noticed how tall Yoo In Young was until now. Her legs looked killer. Soo Young was really kind. Actually, Se Gi was nice too. I wonder if these two will change. They're quite the contrast to Go Jin right now.

The premiere wasn't enough to hook me. The 2nd episode was needed to fill out the story some. It had more going on, but at the same time, it didn't feel like much. Still gonna watch it next week. I am curious about the weird plot and how Shin Ah will pull it off. Her onion storm was funny. I didn't recognize the first one she threw and thought it was something ordinary. XD

I swear the first 15 minutes of this episode was comedy GOLD!!!

I just loved seeing Kim Jae Wook getting down and dirty for this role. The whole cat fight/chasing scene was so funny I couldn't stop giggling.

I'm quite impressed by Krystal's performance as well. I think she suits this role quite well and its nice to see her play someone who is not an ice queen. Both KJW and Krystal have good bickering chemistry that it makes me curious to see how their relationship evolves over time.

Yess I know Kim Jae Wook always delivers but I was so surprised how Krystal was able to play this role so well. It's different from the roles she did before and this one really suit her. I love how they are clearly both enjoying shooting this drama.

Kim Jae Wook always makes his co-star feel comfortable so they can act freely and deliver the best to the audience.

Agreed. I watched a making where Krystal talked about kim jae wook responding to her acting positively allowing her to freely express which i think is what allows her to act well especially the envelope slapping scene.

During the press conference he talked about how he told her to hit him as she feels and funnily enough he said that it hurt like hell but to not make her feel bad he told her its alright it didn’t hurt; thus that great scene was created. You’re absolutely spot on there.

I did watch the preview and im dying of curiosity of how things are going to play out.

I fell asleep half way through Ep 1 and wasn’t motivated enough to try again. Perhaps I should give it a chance - even just for KJW for his first romcom lead role - with the Ep 2 feedback here.

I have no issue with tropes and good comedy but in this case, the mix of tropes of terminated-ill, amnesia and cold jerk don't really attracted me.

I will try the next episodes but I'm not convinced.

I’m hoping she will turn out to not be terminally ill because to me that doesn’t go with comedy, but we’ll see I guess.

I am hoping that there is some sort of mixup with the diagnosis as well. The ex-secretaries like to meddle to get her to quit. So its likely they may have messed something up again.

I don’t know if this is spoilers so don’t read if you don’t want to know.

I feel like the whole mix genre with all the good old kdrama tropes is played for laughs and satire purposes because in the initial plot for the drama it was said that No Go Jin fakes his amnesia i guess to protect himself as well as Shin Ah being misdiagnosed so she isn’t actually terminally ill. I may be wrong but i do hope the writers are going in that direction because then this drama will turn into a makjang.

It makes sense if it was used as a plot device to turn her personality around so she can finally stand up to her jerk boss and start her revenge. Same with no go jin. He may have watched a few makjang dramas here and there so his idea to fake his amnesia to protect his identity is a hilarious and smart move if it turns out to be so.

I see how many can be put off by these top 3 classic tropes, judging by how they already introduced all these in the first two episodes, I think they will make a fun spin or plot twist out of it. It's like parody of classic rom coms haha

I'm curious to know how this story will developed, but not that engaged to watch the episodes. even though it happened a lot of things in this ep 2, I still felt like it took too long to develop things? I dont know how to explain.

I agree with who said that the show looks like its making a satire of the makjang tropes so I dont think she's really terminally ill.

the extraness of this drama reminded a bit of vicenzo, especially some early episodes lol I would say vicenzo had more switch between genres and moods overall, but the over-the-top comedic parts here reminded me a lot of some directing decisions and moments they did with vicenzo. which is a good thing for me.

thanks for the weecap. I will probably follow this story here and maybe pick up an episode if things look interesting.

I'm sure everyone must have commented on their fight scenes. But that is hands down my favorite scene in the entire episode. The car scene reminded me of a pair of siblings bickering. I hope we get more such scenes in the coming episodes !!!
