Drama viewership ratings for the week of April 26-May 2, 2021

The month of May is off to a pretty good start, as we’re seeing steady ratings across the board. At the start of the week, Navillera ended its 12-episode run with 3.7 percent, its personal best. This time slot will be filled with some (hopefully good) romance dramas in the coming weeks, so I’m definitely looking forward to that.

Midweek, we had Sell Your Haunted House and Law School bring in decent numbers, the former even getting its highest number to date. Then, over the weekend, OCN drama Dark Hole premiered, while popular drama Vincenzo wrapped up. Vincenzo was a ridiculous but fun watch, so it was always nice seeing its high numbers.

I hope Vincenzo will be good rating during final episode! :)

But in the only bad news on rating this week: Oh! Master suffered its painful lowest rating. Ouch!

My wish is 15% for Vincenzo. 🤞

Oh! Master deserves its ratings, though. I'm actually wondering if it will go below 1% at this rate.

Vincenzo is this year's Crash Landing on You for me. Crash Landing's ratings were obviously higher, but both dramas were LOL comedies (rom-com vs. dark) with heartwarming makeshift families (ducklings, neighborhood ajummas, and Geumga tenants) and swoonworthy romances (my favorite is slow burn romance when the OTP gets together in the final episode). Both shows had edge-of-your-seat action (military vs. mafia), and both had tvN's (grossly unnecessary) movie-length episodes streamed on Netflix.

DARK HOLE is the fifth drama in OCN’s “Dramatic Cinema” project.
I was going to do a comparison of DARK HOLES first two episode ratings with the first two episodes of the first four Dramatic Cinema dramas: TRAP (2019), HELL IS OTHER PEOPLE (2019), TEAM BULLDOG (2020) and SEARCH (2020).

I have run into a problem. I am not sure if the above ratings for DARK HOLE are accurate. DARK HOLE’s DramaWiki ratings page shows ratings for the broadcast of episodes one and two on two networks: OCN and tvN. (Here I am assuming tvN is the cable network.) This is the first time I have seen this. You can see it here:
https://wiki.d-addicts.com/Dark_Hole/Episode_Ratings

Question. Should the two figures be combined?

If you look at DARK HOLE’s wiki page in addition to the ratings the number of viewers on each network for episode one is listed. See here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Hole
I have a feeling the overall ratings for episodes 1 and 2 should be higher.
Perhaps a math or statistics person can weigh in.

BOSSAM had a strong start!

The first episode of “Bossam: Steal the Fate,” which aired on May 1, garnered average nationwide ratings of 3.132 percent. This is the highest ratings ever recorded for the premiere episode of an MBN drama.

Yes Toki I saw that piece. Great! Like @oldawyer I have been waiting for the subs at Viki. At this point I have to give the subbers at Viki some slack because of late licensing and putting a team together.
On the other hand I will give kudos to the team subbing DARK HOLE at Viki. The first two episodes were subbed pdq. I watched both episodes last night!

Subtitles at VIKI are out! I've just watched Episodes 1-2 and had a blast. It's early stages but so far so good.

@wishfultoki,
I just watched episode one and loved it. Quick impression.
All the leads are fine. Lee Joon-hyuk (1972) is hamming it up! JIW better watch this guy. It is so nice to see Shin Hyun-Soo again. He was terrific in TWELVE NIGHTS (2018).

How is Yuri doing?

1

@kiara,
Yuri is giving a a fine performance. Episode one was geared more to the ‘guys’ but the ‘ladies’ had their moments.
There is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of episode one so I am sure episode two is where Yuri’s role as Princess Soo Kyung will take more of center stage.

@kiara
Just fine. I don't think she'll disappoint us. I was happy to see several sageuk veterans too. \^O^/

@wishfultoki, @marcusnyc20

That's good to hear :).
Thank you!

I had a very busy weekend so I haven't started yet. I figured the subs will be slow so I'll catch up soon.

Oh Master's ratings are so bad. It must rank amongst the worst for public broadcasting stations.

Is the Mon-Tue traditionally an (almost) empty slot? There was only one show and now it has ended and I noticed only 1 show is going to air next too.

REVOLUTIONAY SISTERS ticked up- now that it has abandoned the ridiculous "Murder" idea it can finally try to be a real weekender. I have this vision of the network having either quietly replaced the writer or at least slapping a ruler across the writer's knuckles.

So Vincenzo is over! Now there's a big hole in my weekend and the IPL isn't quite doing it for me. Well, Vincenzo WAS ridiculous but I enjoyed the ride. I thought the entire cast acted with huge talent and enthusiasm and there were a lot of very subtle and amusing incidents. I watched most of the episodes twice to make sure I didn't miss any of the funny bits. I really don't like gratuitous violence, but I felt the two most horrible deaths were so over-the-top they were fairly unalarming, and in an odd way I felt the actors themselves might have had a hand in choosing their own deaths and getting the writer to do them the favour of producing the script? No? The only death that moved me at all was completely unnecessary (stamps foot!) death (sobs loudly) of the absolutely adorable (sigh!) puppy-dog brother who finally found some bottle at the end. Really, REALLY REALLY did he have to die? Why why why? And I would have loved to see our beautiful leading lady, who got more attractive with each episode, setting off in a Bye Bye Balloon to Vincenzo's private island, the basket suitably filled with Ramyeon and Soju and spare pares of very high heeled shoes. And if there special awards, there should be one for the wardrobe men who created Vincenzo's suits, which always fitted perfectly ; he looked a dream in them. And a special award for the Leading Lady for her grace and balance whilst galloping in six-inch heels without losing her balance, and covering huge distances.

I also want to mention the part played by Taeceyon. I always thought he was sweet but just another singer, but he really turned into the personfication of evil as his character developed. Excellent acting.........if I ever ran into him in real life, I wouldn't ask for his autography, I'd probably hit him with my handbag!

I would suggest that the poor ratings of Oh! Master have a lot to do with the leading man's hair. It is extraordinary in shape and with the unusual bone-structure in his very handsome face he needs to have much less hair in his eyes. I can't take my eyes off it and am always expecting some cute little creature to pop out of it at any moment, and this fixation distracts from the dialogue so I'm always behind what's going on. Not all writers look peculiar! I'm open to going back and giving it another try if you can make our hero look more like a real man and less like a cartoon.
