Kim Dong-wook, Seo Hyun-jin
A new drama has been lined up for tvN called You Are My Spring and casting has been confirmed for Seo Hyun-jin (Black Dog), Kim Dong-wook (Find Me in Your Memory), Yoon Park (Birthcare Center), and Nam Gyuri (Kairos).
The story is about a group of adults who are each still struggling with their inner child and trying to navigate the grown-up world around them. By happenstance, they all end up living in the same building together and the seeds for romance are sown. But their lives are thrown for a loop when a murder suddenly takes place in the building.
Seo Hyun-jin takes on the role of Kang Da-jung. She doesn’t remember a lot about her childhood, but she once stayed at a little motel by the sea and her memories there became forever cherished in her heart. When she became older, she entered the industry of hospitality and now works as a hotel concierge manager. In order to make a fresh start in her life, she moves into a new building. But is forced to confront her past when the murder incident unfolds and she becomes acquainted with downstairs neighbor, Kim Dong-wook.
Kim’s character is psychiatrist Joo Young-do, who became a doctor to help save lives. And he chose psychiatry to help those who don’t want to live or those who struggle with living a life worth living. With sharp intellect and deductive reasoning, he seems cool when he quickly analyzes different situations. However, in reality, he feels like big dork on the inside and he hides emotional scars from his past that remain unresolved.
Yoon Park plays Chae Joon, the CEO of an investment company. His personality runs in both directions, sometimes being warm-hearted and sweet, and sometimes colder than ice. He mysteriously appears in Seo Hyun-jin’s life one day and makes his romantic interest clear. What’s even stranger is that he always seems to know the right thing to say or do, as if he read a manual that was written all about Seo Hyun-jin.
Nam Gyuri plays the part of an actress named Ahn Ga-young, who is a bundle of contradictions. She is a person you both love and hate, at times lovely and at times annoying. And although she seems pitiful, she is also well-grounded and someone you can depend on. Her last boyfriend had also been her manager, but he manipulated her and left her traumatized after their relationship ended badly. Due to this experience, she is now fearful of falling in love again.
Written by Lee Mina (Bubblegum) and directed by PD Jung Ji-hyun (The King: Eternal Monarch, Search Query: WWW), tvN’s upcoming You Are My Spring is currently being planned to air in the early half of 2021.

Love both leads. Not keen on the psychiatry part because dramas never really get this right. But love both leads. Did I say that?

I saw that too, and was like, it wouldn’t be a fluffy rom-com without an unsolved murder or suicide! 🤦🏻♀️

I don't know why end of year awards don't have 'Best Serial Killer in a Rom Com' because Korea taught me that was A Thing.

I guess Seo Hyun-jin isn't doing the law school drama? This one sounds okay. I like the cast. I don't mind the murder angle.

I'm confused lol too. She confirmed her SBS Drama by stating how excited she was to do it. I guess she's going to be doing 2 dramas this year. This comes out prob. in th first Half of 2021, and the law drama prob. Fall 2021.

Kim Dong Wook is an interesting leading man. He's a character actor whose been given leading roles since The Guest (TV wise). He scared/creeped me out in The Concubine. My eyes were scared from the graphic scenes there. His role here sounds like his FMIYM one lol.
The original choice for the ML sounded good too, but ultimately he dropped out due to 'schedule conflicts' which I always feel is a funny term in K-drama land. As actors say that, and then choose another project right after lol. Seo Hyun Jin is great though! She's amazing actress. Maybe, it'll end up surprising even though it sounds meh?

Dunno about the writer, but omg THE OTP. ♥ I'm in!!
Don't mind the murder mystery either. I just hope it and the romance are both compelling.

I am utterly disappointed that Yoon Kye-sang turned down the ML role as he would be such a great match to SHJ acting- and visual-wise. This was among my most anticipated dramas earlier ... too bad it’s not happening.

I share your sentiment. However, I think that if he indeed plays the role of the psychiatrist here it might be similar with the role of a doctor he played in Chocolate. The stories involve good childhood memories near the sea too.

Right? He has a better suited visual for the role/good age to SHJ too. The fact they gave KDW the role as soon as YKS turned it down due to schedule conflicts was suspicious lol. For SHJ, she's going to be a busy actress with 2 dramas this yr!

I get the visual part, we all have different tastes but, about the age, KDW is just 2 years older than SHJ, which is common.
Also, from what I've seen, being offered a role after someone else turned down a role does not really have an additional meaning. For ex, KimHyeSoo in Hyena was offered the role after someone else declined it as well, which did not matter coz she was great. They just offer the role to someone who suits the role just as much as the first person did.

Oh yeah, I'm glad he's older than her. I like KDW a lot lol. He surprised me in FMINYM as a romantic lead. I remember him as the annoying guy in Coffee Prince, so seeing him in his film roles where it's a 180 from that role shocked me. He's also a really quiet and shy guy in real life too. He has this character actor look to him, but he also can be quite sexy when he wants to be. I think these 2 actors seem like a fresh pairing. Plot could be overly sappy, but I hope the romance will be good.

I get that he may not be your style visually, coz everyone has different tastes (just like I was more excited with his casting news more than Yoon kye sang's, while I was excited for him as well). But about his acting, and this is not just my opinion but from what I've read in all articles, he has never failed to create chemistry with his co-stars. And w/ Seo hyunjin who is the queen of creating chemistry, it will still be a good drama regardless.

Kim Dong-Wook is no joke. He may be not your cup of tea but unlike Yoon Kye-Sang he is critically acclaimed actor.

I love this cast!! All 4 of them.. they are such wonderful actors. Also, in some initial descriptions of Seo Hyunjin's character, they mention that she is someone with terrible taste in men, so I'm assuming based on Yoon Park's character description, he is that initial terrible "taste in men". Seohyunjin and Kim Dongwook have never disappointed with their choices, so expecting this one..

I'm liking the synopsis and I'm just glad that, even though it makes me iffy, the murder is there in the plot synopsis. Nothing makes me roll my eyes faster than a mystery angle shoehorned in romcoms. Also I heard some beanies say that Bubblegum had really well written characters so I'm holding out hope on that end. I'm excited to see more of Kim Dong Wook.

Childhood trauma, possible childhood connection, cold CEO, and a murder. Well, I think I've already seen this drama, but it's Seo Hyun Jin, I can't say no to her.

Whenever I read about characters who live in the same building and then a murder happening, I instantly think of Harvest Villa (anyone else remember this old gem?). Doubt this show will be as weird, but the leads are definitely charming and both are phenomenal actors.

"Characters who live in the same building" always reminds me the Jdrama Love Shuffle. But I guess Koreans won't adapt this one :p

The premise on its own sounds super interesting without the need for a murder angle. Maybe the writer/PD didn’t feel enough interest could be generated without it?
Either way, all of these character descriptions sound so good. My heart especially tugged at Nam Gyuri’s. Yoon Park sounds like a first-class creep here (shivers) and I just know Kim Dong Wook is going to make me teary at a certain point.
