Kim Ro-woon is a swoony noona-killer Sunbae, Don’t Put On That Lipstick teaser

JTBC released a new teaser for its upcoming drama, Sunbae, Don’t Put on That Lipstick. Adapted from a popular webtoon, it stars Won Jin-ah (Melting Me Softly) and Kim Ro-woon (Extraordinary You).

Won Jin-ah plays an experienced marketing associate for a makeup brand, and Kim Ro-woon plays a first-year rookie that joins her team. They just so happen to have some history together, and Won’s aversion to dating younger men is tested by his clear romantic interest in her.

The teaser places Won Jin-ah at Kim Ro-woon’s college, recruiting students for her company. Kim Ro-woon hesitates in the hallway in front of the room where she’s holding her recruitment counseling sessions, but eventually decides to leave. He hears the door open, and unable to pass by her expectant face, he enters the room.

They sit across from each other, stealing looks at each other. He starts to leave, but turns around and drops a huge, heart-pounding statement: “Sunbae, date me.” He shyly smiles and looks down, and she begins to smile back. In the last narration, the actors state the drama title and scheduled airing days.

Kyaaah~! I didn’t realize how much of a heartthrob Kim Ro-woon was until this teaser. I’m decidedly less excited about his co-star, Won Jin-ah, but that may be because my only reference point for her is the Drama-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named (*cough*Melting Me Softly*cough*). Hopefully, this will be the drama to change my mind.

Lee Dong-yoon (20th Century Boy and Girl) will direct, with Chae Yoon penning the scripts. JTBC Monday-Tuesday drama Sunbae, Don’t Put on That Lipstick will begin airing in January 2021.

For now, it looks very beautiful and romantic. I really liked the poster with the light.

Rowoon looks swoony on this teaser.

Plot sounds uninspired and totally generic.

PD did Queen's Classroom (excellent, btw) but otherwise he and the leads haven't done anything that I especially liked.

Writer doesn't even have an entry in Asianwiki.

Unless the reviews are terrific -- wake me when it's over.

Just Between Lovers could technically be seen as generic, but I loved it.

As long as this is well-detailed in its writing (and the poster is doing a good job of setting tone) then I have high hopes for Won Jinah. I liked they tall guy in Extraordinary but I wouldn’t say he’s strong as a stand-alone; she’s stronger than he is as an actor. It really will all depend on their chemistry.

You should check out JUST BETWEEN LOVERS @tineybeanie. Won Jin-ah won the audition for her part and did really well. Her chemistry with Jun-ho was 😍.

Thankfully I haven’t watched the drama that shall not be named... maybe serious dramas seem to suit her better than comedy?

JBL is one of my favourite dramas ever, although my love for WJA began with Life. That's the drama that lead me to JBL.

I really liked Won Jin-ah in JBL, but it was a melancholy sort of role in a melancholy drama. I've never seen her in anything lighter/happier.

Toki, JBL is another one of those well received dramas I would like to catch up on. The only Won Jin-ah drama I have seen is LIFE (with the Ye brothers) which I enjoyed. I enjoyed Junho in WOK but I really enjoyed his performance in CONFESSION (2019) which I caught up on this year.
If I skip SUNBAE the next opportunity to catch Won Jin-ah might be in HELL:

@marcusnyc20
Regarding JBL: I found the last few episodes slow-going, but overall it is a thoughtful and incredibly well-done drama, more on the subdued and melancholic side as noted by @lindag. It is set in Busan, with a refreshing change of scenery, and has a talented supporting cast that includes Kang Hanna, Yoon Se-ah, Ahn Nae-sang and Na Moon-hee, among others.

Lol, I don't think I am willing to follow Won Jin-ah to HELL. That sounds scary!

But Won Jin Ah was great in Rain or Shine/ Just Between Lovers with 2PM Junho. One of my recommended dramas.

I didn't watch Melting me softly though so not sure how she is in that drama.

I would say that in melting me softly, she did do her best but the drama itself was something that was bound to fail even if everyone in the drama gave it a 500% effort because the script itself was terrible despite a promising premise.

I love a noona romance, I always give them a chance... I have already overcome the disaster of Pretty noona, and the bigger disaster of Do do sol sol la la sol😒
I am even watching now "Flower boy Ramyum shop" when I know the story in advance for I read the recaps....
So, yes please... I will tune in again 😅

Since this webtoon has been over for a while, I'm assuming that they will go ahead with the exact same plot, which is - guy likes girl, girl is dating someone else, that someone happens to be cheating on her, guy tells girl about the cheat, girl wants revenge, fake dating begins, girl ends up falling for the guy, happily ever after. It is quite an obvious plot and the only thing different about this is the occupations of the leads.
But despite this, there are ways to make this unique on its own, but most of that will depend heavily on the performance of the cast, cinematography and music. This year's Find me in your memory also had a very obvious plot, but because of the factors that I mentioned, the drama was, for me personally, an excellent romance drama and one i consider to be very high on my all-time favourites list. So I am hoping that this drama does end up setting itself different from others because the dream-like feel the poster and teaser gave definitely caught my attention.

I like the PD, cast, but don't really familiar with the writer, the fact that they give viewers the kissing scenes for the first ever drama poster, is so tempting to watch, and I'm so looking forward to this drama, since it's rowoon come back drama after extraordinary you, that makes me stan him as an idol and actor 😊

Speaking of the kissing scene on the poster, did you see how high her heels had to be for her to be tall enough for that scene?

I wish people's watching this drama, even for a cooling down from watching another heavy plots drama out there, or simply looking for a good ride drama.

I haven't watched a good noona romance in a while.
Maybe this one will deliver. *_*

Love Noona romances, HATE this premise. So much.
Workplace romances between superiors and subordinates is just gross, Korea. Stop it!

And yet, it is so believable! I mean, that since you spend so much time at work, then you fall in love with someone at work, of course.... noona or not...
The drama "Boyfriend" had exactly this premise, and the girlfriend was nothing more and nothing less than the divorced lady CEO, I think 7 years older than gorgeous Park Bo gum, but I think worked. Many of us enjoyed that story, and believed the couple.

The plot is ordinary but I have so much hope to PD and casts. 20th Century Boy and Girls had ordinary plot too but somehow it gives me warm when watching the drama

and Rowoon, his eyes said it all, with his deep voice too. His sunbae definitely can't resist him :))

20th century boy and girl was super amazing, among the "ordinary" of its plot. 😍😍😍😍😍
It deserves a rewatch....

At that teaser, there are three blue water bottles (seemingly empty I think)... I think either Kim Ro-woon and Won Jin-ah never ever drink these three. Even the two brown coffee mugs did included.

BTW, I love the fancy clothes of Kim Ro-woon and Won Jin-ah.

In Extraordinary You, wasn't he the wooden supposed-to-be-male lead? Unless he meant to be that stiff and awkward, I reserve judgment on his acting chops. As far as I can tell so far, he's just another pretty face.

Well I'm not defending his acting ( no matter how much I love that face) but I guess he was supposed to be that way because his character was an extra in a manhwa who did now even have a name.

Exactly! He was kind of a second lead in "where the stars land", and I think he was ok. For a second lead....
But it's been a while, maybe now he delivers....

Omg I just cracked up at 'Swoony Noona-Killer'. Honesty, I havent watched noona romances so idk how they go but I'm a but optimistic. Also the PD of 20th Century Boy and Girl gives me hope. That drama was pleasant and warm
