Drama viewership ratings for the week of Aug. 31-Sep. 6, 2020
by SailorJumun
These new shows are really killing it! Forest of Secrets is still cruising around 6 percent, Alice is gradually rising — and now we have Do You Like Brahms joining the party. The music-themed drama premiered over on SBS to 5.3 percent. It’s a low rating, but considering the ratings for most Big 3 shows these days, it’s actually not too bad. There’s another music drama on the way, so I’m curious to see how that one performs in comparison.
For some dramas, it’s been a long ride, full of pre-emptions and disappointing numbers. This week, Men Are Men, Was it Love, and Graceful Friends finally aired their finales. Men Are Men performed as expected, around the 3 percent mark, and Was it Love actually performed worse than expected, landing on 1.6 percent. On the bright side, weekend drama Graceful Friends finished with its highest number of 5.1 percent. Yet another win for JTBC.

Disappointing end of Men Are Men but Do You Like Brahms got led during Monday-Tuesday overall dramas.
Another good job for Alice. Same as Graceful Friends as ends with higher one.
Once Again again led the overall drama ratings which means about to have enter the final episodes soon. Another bravo to Once Again!

I always wonder about the 25-35% of Korea watching one weekend drama. Where are they all the rest of the time, why aren’t they watching other shows? Does a third of the country really all watch one tv show on weekend nights? They seem to be a very captive audience.

A weekend family drama is really a different kind of show from the other dramas listed here- and only KBS still does them. So there sort of are a captive audience. It used to be that we had two weekenders to choose from.

Other than content, which is more family friendly and relatable to many viewers....I think timing also plays a role. A KBS weekender airs at 755pm KST which is dinner time. So maybe people watch dramas as they eat dinner? And since other channels have cancelled their weekender slots or put it on hold, the ratings are dominated by KBS.
DB ratings does not include daily drama ratings, daily dramas have high ratings too compared to primetime dramas. Daily dramas air at 8.30pm-9pm. For example current daily drama Brilliant Heritage has 20% ratings (https://asianwiki.com/Brilliant_Heritage), the previous dramas in the same slot has >20% ratings too.

Alice eps 3-4 were really solid. I have high hopes for what the multiverse hijinks can bring, as opposed to what TKEM did ahem..
I also think I know why they casted Kim Hee-sun now, so that she can pass off as a 32 year old AND a 22 year old.

And a 50-something-year-old. I was shocked to see how she could be made to look like the same person at very different ages.. 😱

I like Alice but Joo Woon’s performance though. I understand his character has to be emotionless but how come he looks dumb instead.

I'm glad that Lies of Lies wasn't listed yet on Dramabeans' "Drama viewership ratings for the week'' since I knew it was aired on Channel A, a smaller channel. I didn't find its Lies of Lies' ratings on Hancinema everywhere.
