From The I Did Not Think It Was Needed Department:
I really do not know how well this will be taken by workers. In March 2021, a Korean ministry designated the last Wednesday of every month as "A Good Day to Wear Hanbok," but a new scheme is more detailed and makes traditional attire part of the dress code for some jobs.
The new initiative, part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's basic plan for promoting traditional cultural industries, was announced during Thursday's ministerial meeting on social affairs that it aims to build a sustainable environment in which the traditional cultural sector can grow without losing its essence and adapting modern concepts.
Under the plan, the government will designate Hanbok as the official dress code for national holidays such as the March 1 Independence Movement Day, Liberation Day, which falls on Aug. 15, Hangeul Day, which falls on Oct. 9 and the Oct. 3 National Foundation Day, as well as 57 other commemorative days to recommend people wear Hanbok.
Also, the government will introduce Hanbok as work wear next year starting with fields where employees frequently interact with visitors or the public. These include museums, art galleries, overseas Korean cultural centers and public institutions.
Second, it never occurred to me that this happens: Surfing while under the influence of alcohol will be legally banned in Korea starting June 2025. According to the Korean Coast Guard, the revised law of water-related leisure activities will come into force on June 21 next year to prohibit drunk people from riding water leisure crafts such as a surfboard or a kayak. Currently, only motorized ones like jet skis are banned.
Under the new rule, a person who is found to have ridden a surfboard while drunk — a blood alcohol content of 0.03 percent or higher — will be subject to a fine of up to 1 million won ($685). Those who refuse a sobriety test can also be fined 1 million won.

ONe thing is if you work in, say, the reception of a museum or in a tourist information.
But to have to go to field work in naything but simply the most practical attire, or if I should, as we say in Danish, "lide for skønheden", suffer for beauty, it should be what I would find beautiful, not some reactionary tourist-brownnoser - it would make me hate that government so much.

Yes, "funny" how they claim to be up against North Korea but really no one in South Korea is more North-Korea-ish than they.
I guess when they say they are against North Korea they mean they are their competition. Really, they seem to see North Korean rule as an ideal, only that they themselves want to have Kim Jong-un's spot.

Yes, that normal people should pretend that South Koreans wear hanbok in their everyday work - who would they even think they'd be fooling?
A Danish Theatre and Music troupe, some of whom I know, went to North Korea for cultural exchange. As part of their tour in the country they visited a place for young children, and the children were playing different kinds of normal games, roleplaying at being grown-ups, and drawing in some of the guests to be part of the game.
Problem is, on the walls were pictures from earlier visits, with prominent guests being assigned the exact same roles by the "playing" children. And the Danish visitors could feel the nervous glances of the children ... were they performing well enough? Were they charming enough? Did they look innocent and spontaneous enough?
Thinking of this controlled "play" just gives me the chills and makes my heart ache for North Koreans every time.
(And sometimes it reminds me of the expectations for K-artist, be they musicians or actors. But that's for another day).

ahhh
ok after some days off - went to Viljandi, lit some candles - the cemetery was so full of them. I feel bad for the environment but it is still very pretty. and I think they collect the containers and press them into sandboxes, buckets and such. then, for 2 days nothing much to do, it was really quiet. But we have no snow and it is both weird and worrysome because pests stay alive.
back at work but still lazy
watching Rented in Finland. ah Lee Je Hoon, you are so frustrating but now even Kwak Dong Yeon has a weakness? He cannot touch earthworms.
It must be nice for them, nobody follows them around they can eat pancakes in peace.
I hope they catch some fish next time
also watching When the phone rings, it is nonsensical and kinda conveniently jumps over the natural logic of things but still watchable because the acting has a lot of soul
I think the reporter is somehow involved, or then someone from presidential office. perhaps not a guy.

Im so angry, like why cant they just lose all the ocean fishing licenses for the environmental and economic damage they have done? 160 dead dolphins in Black sea :-( No ocean fishing would be a big blow, might cause a huge uproar (around 4 million jobs, heavily reliant on the food source etc).

Do you mean that he is personally simply a kind, but dirty and messy person, or do you mean that he has an old-fashioned wokeness, like, what would be considered progressive more than a decade ago?

Merry Christmas and Happy Last Friday of 2024, Beanies! 🎄
Ngl, I'm not sad this year is ending lol, but won't deny it was a productive one. Mainly for LYN, ofc, compared to him hardly anyone could sincerely call themselves busy))) Next week will be madness of content, so I'm glad to mostly focus on old stuff for now. Not that it stopped this crazy man from releasing a new song (was supposed 2, but one got postponed to tomorrow) in very last days of the year... Well, he did say he wants to carve himself a special place in industry if not by quality, than by sheer amount of content^^ I have no complaints about quality either, he's being too critical on himself here.
I mean, he made it to Top7 of most popular male stars on Tencent in their fresh yearly report – with only OSTs, variety shows and secondary roles in dramas that weren't even rating hits! And got 4 (!) more awards from China Music Group annual report: “All Media Recommended Artist Of The Year”, “
QuantityQuality OST Singer Of The Year”, “Most Loved OST Of The Year” (for YOLO movie – told ya it was a huge hit!) and “Top 100 Excellent Songs Of The Year”.Finally an official link for iQiyi Scream Night performance in great quality:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWVmiaajd-M
Today's new track – promotional song “Children of the sea” for sea environment protection (?) program of Hainan province. If you think about it, he gets many such regional advertisement gigs – general public loooves his voice as BGM for just about everything))) The song itself is actually more interesting than I thought it would be – those intro/outro chords are almost Joe Hisaishi's “One summer's day”-like (SPIRITED AWAY main theme). Rest of the track went into different, more predictable direction, but it was still surprising while it lasted. And he sang well as usual – in a very comfortable manner, so no additional straining to his already overworked voice, thankfully - but that's a given.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2y1r-4nHZE
It's time to complete Carnation 4.0 coverage, starting with cover of Paula Tsui's retro (released in 1981 apparently) Canto hit “Windy season”. And damn, what a bop! 80s music just hits differently – the best decade of music ever
fight me on this if you dare. His attempts at dancing along are borderline hystericalthe Goomba vibes intensified, but how can one not move when something like this plays?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7iYMJzCt1k
Next song I'd love to dedicate to 2024 as a whole called “Goodbye” from A-Yue^^ Thank heavens I didn't have to google to much to find the original version because you can only imagine the amount of songs with such title from different artists! Pretty cheerful sound-wise, which is nice:

Another playlist classic with “Boys don't cry” - yall should already know it by heart at this point. Still a nice song to listen to nevertheless. Doubt singing it regularly will make him less a crybaby tho^^ Funnily he had trouble with camera focusing on him through the whole thing (I strongly suspect that neon lime guitar was stealing the spotlight), so here he resorts to shamelessly eye-flirting with it... didn't help all that much, imo lol.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPAe2IPYHno
Next is a cover with very interesting title - “Modest/polite rejection” by Wang Jingwen. Couldn't find lyrics but with a name like that I can sort of image what it is about... Sounds pleasantly too, despite gloomy subject.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCqfCR7HceA
More of helpless camera focus struggle with his BURNING FLAMES OST “Born to die” in a brand new rock arrangement. So new that I didn't even recognize the track at first, whoa! Now this really sounds better with different instrumentals and added edge from his vocals *claps*
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7iqpE9ufTA
And the last song for tonight and 2024 with cover of Faye Wong's “The last blossom” (I'd love more clarity about what direct translation means because none of my sources helped make a sense of it – something about tea? and extravagance? wtf) – another banger he performs regularly. And thank him for that because because his voice sounds fantastic here! Awww, he looks super tired already...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RaSeYb4pGg
He also did yet another livestream last weekend, likely the last of the year, and it was the most chaotic one I've witnessed personally so far! Including bits like:
- whining about his upset stomach – flying makes him sick((( Btw, for someone who claims to dislike fans babying him ('cause he's a big man, duh), he's way into such childish TMI and channeling pathetic wet cat energy...
- raging at unnamed producers for throwing his name around in relation to random dramas just to make their actual MLs look better in comparison – I assume it's mostly about shows adapted from novels, because fans of those can be (and usually are) VERY nasty when casting doesn't perfectly fit the text, and we all know that he isn't the teen delicate flower boy most of them portray. Agree with him here – it's low and embarrassing, esp for actors that get casted instead, ewww. Love how he snapped and went like “do you REALLY think I'm worse than them?” - nice burn!
- suddenly decided to do his first ever mukbang ASMR with season-appropriate dumplings? Guess his stomach got better at that point... That was pretty cute though – he looks good with cheeks full of food and shyly trying to chew loudly into mic))) The actual footage so yall can enjoy this too:

- deciding he didn't expose himself enough yet and going on a whole confession booth rant with discussion of his Douyin recommendations feed. Which was once filled with racy videos of girls (ofc he had NOTHING to do with that aside of listing himself as male in profile! he always rejects those offers! and 200% did NOT watch anything that requires regular cache/browser history cleaning!.. sure, you innocent lamb, we believe you^^), but after he somehow decided to watch a few “thirst trap” clips of dudes stripping/posing sexily to “learn something useful from that” (huh? HUH?! also, when we'll we get to see the result of this “research” then?) he now only gets those, lamenting that algorithm probably made certain wrong conclusion about his preferences... After that section now MY stomach hurts – from all the laughing)))
- he filmed something “interesting” we'll get to see later. For a mini-spoiler part it apparently involved dressing in his Hao Du (TLB) old costume – where did he even found it, btw? It's been many years, I'm not even sure it will still fit.
Bonus: from another stream (in late November, I believe) -
reacting toroasting his own stage performances because he LOVES doing so! Ngl, I'm not the huge of fan of performative modesty he displays here, likely to leave haters with zero bones to chew on, but still, most of his complaints in those parts are objectively far-fetched at best and entirely made up at worst. Points for self-irony, I guess, but does he really need to go far with that? In case if you still doubt how he genuinely feels about his singing being mocked, try to point out any ACTUAL mistakes he made on stage and watch him throw an epic hissy fit, questioning fans loyalty and whatnot)))https://x.com/fandoestrans/status/1871861623511756958
He has a collab performance on HIT SONG2024 variety show (Tencent and some satellite TV, forgot which one) tonight, but I'll cover that next year, I guess^^ So for now watch his attached interview subbed, where he managed to utterly charm both host and photographer – former even
labeled him ”funny, gentle, TALL and dateable” on her sns later, I'm wheezing^^tried to flirt with him, which flew over his head entirely (or did it? then again, a bit of random situation to get heart eyes from ladies that were there to question him lolgirls, the line starts waaaay over there!):https://x.com/fandoestrans/status/1872317062296805876
Pretty photos from the same occasion:
https://x.com/fandoestrans/status/1872475372434125008
And a bit of dancing to meet the new year in festive mood – pls forgive his lack of skills, he's trying his best!

NOTES FROM 9TAILEDVIXEN'S CHRISTMAS WEEK:
(A) LIFE NOTES
Had a good time at Christmas Eve dinner catching up with a branch of the extended family. We all ate too much sugar and just had a really nice time.
I'm getting super antsy with the Aerial Yoga studio closed til 1 January 2025 but I've booked myself for the first class of the year on 2 January 2025 and I will be back challenging myself to reach upper intermediate level.
(B) THIS WEEK IN KOREAN WOMEN'S NEWS
(i) Almost 1 in 2 Koreans of child-bearing age are OK with not having a family, survey shows
Nearly half of Korean adults of child-bearing age believe it is acceptable to go through life without having children, according to a new report.
The findings revealed that the preference for a childless lifestyle was more prevalent among women, particularly those in their twenties, and non-regular workers with unstable employment.
The report was presented at the Population Forum held in Seoul on December 20, organised by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHASA). The survey, conducted by KIHASA, gathered responses from 4,000 men and women aged 19 to 79 nationwide between November 3 and December 6.
https://www.scmp.com/lifestyle/family-relationships/article/3291841/almost-1-2-koreans-child-bearing-age-are-ok-not-having-family-survey-shows
(b) Women at the forefront of South Korea's martial law protests
As protesters confronted armed soldiers outside South Korea's National Assembly on the night of December 3, it was immediately apparent that something unexpected was taking place.
Cameras panning across the protesting crowds gathering outside the parliament, the Constitutional Court where Yoon's case will be heard and the traditional protest location Gwanghwamun Square showed there were many women at the forefront.
Some media estimates suggest that as many as 40% of the demonstrators were women in the age group late teens to 40s. Analysts say this emerging generation of women may be ready to play a bigger part in setting the nation's agenda.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!
And an early happy New Year!
Last Friday I went to a water park with my friends and we did it all: relaxing in an outdoor jacuzzi in cold weather, followed by wild shrieking in the fast waterslides!😂We rewatched Moana on Saturday noon and then went to watch the sequel in the movie theater that same evening. It was nice to have popcorn again, but it has become so expensive.
Since I forgot dessert, I bought some last-minute snacks to enjoy on my solo Christmas party, but I miscalculated and forgot about leftovers and edible presents…now my secret snack stash might feed me another week instead of just one evening.😅
I am spending New Year’s Eve at my friend’s place again, but this time only one night instead of the whole weekend, and I am carpooling with another invited friend instead of traveling by train. I hope this means more time for me and less (stress with) packing.🧳

Some idol guy is under investigation for allegedly not fulfilling his military hours completely and if he's found guilty, he might be looking at reenlistment to make up those hours. Not only is he going down for this or under scrutiny but apparently others who supposedly helped him or made things easier for him (from what I understand).
The thing is the idol was eligible to be exempt (again, from what I understand) for mental health reasons but he still enlisted because of the criticism he was get for taking the exemption. It's been said that his mental health did suffer during his enlistment and that's at least part of the reason he was on sick leave.
Would it be right to say it's ironic to say he joined the military to avoid criticism about being exempted only to still get criticized for not fulfilling his time due to the mental health issues that qualified him for the exemption?
Obviously he couldn't know the future but I couldn't help but think he should've just taken the exemption in the first place.
Now this is probably gonna lead to more scrutiny and observation to make sure other idols doing office jobs aren't slacking off in the slightest.

I agree— Minho (Mino) should have taken the exemption in the first place. At least, if he’d taken it in the first place, I feel like any heat he’d get would blow over sooner or later and it would also be much more gentle. Now, he’s getting harsher and double the criticism and scrutiny despite his ongoing mental health struggles. Albeit, it’s also an extremely sensitive time in politics right now in S.Korea, so much of the harshness that people are instilling into their criticisms about him are probably stemming from that, too. There have been very beloved celebs whom have been exempted for a plethora of other reasons before that aren’t health and mental health related and there has never been a peep about them and their situation before—nor do I think outsiders should have the right to criticize in the first place (not saying you are here criticizing with your post, either 😅) —so I definitely think the political situation and climate right now has something to do with it. Korea is no stranger in making examples out of people—especially celebrities —to take the spotlight off of its politics

One of the things that sucks is people keep belittling mental health issues. They're like "how can he possibly have crippling anxiety or panic attacks when he's an idol who performs in front of crowds. So what he's bipolar, I'm bipolar too and I get along just fine".
And then when people defend him, they're use other idols as examples (ex: it was okay to go to the party on the weekend because this other idol went to a concert abroad on the weekend) which just tosses the other idols into the spotlight of criticism and observation.
I don't envy Korean celebrities
even a little because of the constantly scrutiny they're under. Even the "good" attention is annoying (to me) and overwhelming.

I agree.
Year after year, we hear of news or read/see articles of X celeb or idol taking breaks and hiatuses or sitting out of X performances or X leg of a tour “due to health reasons”, and yea, also news of actor X or actress Y or singer Z being very frank about their struggles with their health on variety shows, but then it all seems to go in one ear and out the other once it impedes on the celebs’ work and the celebs are extremely dismissed. Not only that, but the social services and actual help they can and will get is basically nonexistent.
The worst is when year after year, it keeps happening, lives keep being lost, but they—the industry and the fans—STILL don’t get the point and go back to normal ways once the articles and the grieving stops. As for the agencies, I don’t know if they’re at a loss of what there is to do or what can be done or if they’re like the public and just don’t care enough once the articles and the grieving stop. Definitely a vicious cycle that no one seems to be taking a step to break because of S.Korea’s society of “fitting in is a good thing and doing something different will get you crucified”, and apparently, letting people get sick and hurt—and even dying— is better than being different and taking a stand and saying something and doing something to make a change for the better uuuggghhhhhh Like, I was sooooooooo glad and happy that year (iirc it was the year Jonghyun of SHINee passed due to suicide) when IU went on stage and said something as she was accepting her award—like, FINALLY—and for a second, it did seem like the industry heard her and were doing things and making headway to change, but then not even half a year later, things went back to how they were before, and it seems to have actually gotten worse as the years went by

I feel the same way as I get older. The last few years since Covid have either felt very lull or I’ve completely written them off from my memory except for a few pretty heavy (some even traumatic) events. This year was the very first year in a long time I felt something but it isn’t very much— i just know that I had a very busy year with work and dealing with family health related stuff, and then just like that December came, Christmas came, and now we’re only a few days away from 2025 🫨
