Premiere Watch: I’m Not a Robot, Jugglers, Black Knight, Beautiful Goodbye, Rude Miss Young-ae

More dramas, coming atcha! This week we finally have the premiere of Yoo Seung-ho’s I’m Not a Robot, after about a month hiatus in MBC’s Wednesday-Thursday slot, as well as the upbeat office comedy Jugglers and fantasy romance Black Knight on KBS. I’m still trying to catch up on the dramas that ended this past week and watch the new ones that came along, but time waits for no one!

Jugglers

Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: KBS
Genre: Workplace comedy
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: This office comedy has a solid cast—Daniel Choi, Baek Jin-hee, Jang Hye-jung, Lee Won-geun—and a fun spin with secretaries featured as the protagonists of the story. There’s a whole army of secretaries who make the impossible happen, whether their bosses are picky, demanding, incompetent, or evil, and I think there will be a lot of vicarious satisfaction in watching them rule the workplace in their own way. I just like the setup that Baek Jin-hee is the best secretary in the universe, and her greatest challenge is in meeting a boss who doesn’t want any help. I don’t expect this drama to reinvent the wheel or anything, but I do expect to laugh a lot and cheer for the underdogs, in the vein of Chief Kim and Radiant Office that came before it.

Rude Miss Young-ae 16

Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Workplace comedy
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: Rude Miss Young-ae is tvN’s longest-running drama franchise, back for its 16th(!) season. I don’t know a whole lot about the series since I haven’t followed it (and starting now seems daunting, given how many seasons there are), but many of tvN’s staff directors and writers have gotten their start here. It centers around Kim Hyun-sook’s brash heroine and her everyday workplace conflicts, and this year there will be a huge change for her character as she faces marriage. Appropriately, the whole wedding theme has been turned into a war motif for the drama’s promo. The posters are pretty hilarious, I’ll give them that.

I’m Not a Robot

Time slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Broadcaster: MBC
Genre: Romantic comedy
Episode count: 32 (half-hour episodes, 16 hours in total)

Reasons to watch: This is one of the dramas I’ve been looking forward to for a while now, partly because of the interesting premise, and partly because I need a new Yoo Seung-ho drama to erase the memory of the last Yoo Seung-ho drama. Also, I just missed Yoo Seung-ho. He’s going to play a man with an allergy to humans who falls in love with a humanoid robot… or so he thinks, because he has no idea that Chae Soo-bin’s character is a human pretending to be a robot. As a girl might happen to do. Hijinks will ensue! Circuits will short! I’m also hoping to be wowed by PD Jung Dae-yoon, who directed the stylish W–Two Worlds last year, so I think it’s pretty safe to say that my expectations are high for this one.

Black Knight

Time slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Broadcaster: KBS
Genre: Fantasy romance
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: I’m still not sure what to expect from Black Knight, but so far based on the drama’s promo, it feels like a stab at trying to be another Goblin, with its centuries-spanning romance and mysterious but beautiful fantasy characters. It looks more melodramatic as well, but that might help to differentiate it tonally (a plus, since Shin Se-kyung very recently was wooed by a supernatural water god, and will now be wooed by a supernatural black knight). It comes from the PD-writer team behind Equator Man and Unkind Women, and so far the visuals are lush and hauntingly beautiful. Or is that just Kim Rae-won?

The Most Beautiful Goodbye in the World

Time slot: Saturday & Sunday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Family melodrama
Episode count: 4

Reasons to watch: Star writer Noh Hee-kyung’s very first drama was this short 4-episode miniseries that earned her a Baeksang with her debut. It’s been remade multiple times and this year it’s getting a new life on tvN just in time for the holidays, starring Choi Ji-woo and Won Mi-kyung. It’s a heartwarming story about a mother who gets diagnosed with terminal cancer and prepares to say goodbye to her family, and how that brings everyone together. This project is famous for being a tribute to Noh Hee-kyung’s own mother who passed away, and she’ll be re-teaming with Dear My Friends PD Hong Jong-chan for this remake. Here, just have my tears.

I'm Not A Robot - *Squeeeee to that Chae Soo Bin-Yoo Seung Ho screencap from their poster photoshoot. It is already poster worthy! Why not?*
With PD Jung Dae Yoon directing I'm Not A Robot who happen to have Yoo Seung Ho Chae Soo Bin & Uhm Ki Joon as his actors, I also set my hopes high. But the ghost of Ruler made me look on the writer of the show. She penned 'Shine or Go Crazy' but haven't watched it yet so I still have no idea about her styles. Any beanies who checked out SoGC?

JUGGLERS - Ahh.. a workplace drama, I'm reminded of Radiant Office, I miss Eun Ho Won.. I hope this show somehow give me the same vibe. Plus it's Baek Jin Hee so I definitely have this on my list.

Shine or Go Crazy wasn't very good. My hopes are pinned on the cast & director, not the writer.

I liked Shine or Go Crazy. Its only letdown was rhe last episode and that wasn't the writer's fault. Jang Hyuk seamed suddenly dead bored of this role and drama. It was very strange honestly, to watch a good actor go suddenly completely out of his role and looking just bored and sleepy. But I didn't have any problem with the writing.

Even if the story is about bringing the family together, I am not sure I can stomach a cancer drama during the holidays.....it was hard enough watching Jang Nara mourning the loss of her mother in Go Back Couple. At the moment I don’t feel the need to shed tears to feel alive.

Tis’ the season for cuteness overload with Jugglers and I’m Not A Robot! ...but first, does anyone else think that Jugglers should select better photos for both men’s bottom halves (uh especially for DC)?

I'm really looking forward to I'm Not a Robot! Give me the cute!

Also, I would like for Shin Se-kyung to be the supernatural being doing the wooing next time, just to switch things up.

The visuals for the Black Knight teasers are gorgeous. However, I'm wary of the final output because good visuals do not necessarily translate to a well-made drama.

I would watch I'm Not a Robot in a heartbeat, if only I haven't been burned by Ruler: Master of the Mask, pfffft!

I think we can blame Ruler on the writers & directors (??). Asianwiki shows 2 of each, and none of the 4 have done anything I especially liked.

I will try I’m not a robot and maybe Black Knight but mostly I care about The Most Beautiful Goodbye. I want a warm-hearted, weepy, touching melodrama.

I'm a bit emotionally drained from live watching BTLIOF, but I really want to see I'm Not a Robot. I might wait for the first couple of recaps, then go from there.

I was supposed to jump into a drama slump voluntarily after BTLIOF, but since it failed to me the last two episodes, now I need a consolation. I will watch the 4 episodes of a beautiful good bye, and that´s it! Off to go study French!!!!! LOL

I'm ready for Jugglers to start. A workplace comedy seems perfect to brighten up the dramaland in the middle of onslaught from all those police and legal dramas.

Unlike many others, I'm looking forward to Jugglers the most and I hope it will be a decent drama and have decent rating as well, at least. Besides, there are The Most Beautiful Goodbye in the World as well, need to prepare tissues 😭

I might check both Black Knight and I'm Not A Robot if I have extra time, I'm especially curious about BK.

I'm already watching Two Cops and the Mysterious one (who can remember what the name is) so with Jugglers I'll have 3 Mon/Tues dramas. Yikes. Hopefully I have the self control to space them out throughout the week, otherwise I'll be dead on Wednesdays.

I've had times when I've had 3 dramas on the same day. It can really get overwhelming, especially if: you like to GIF a lot, participate on recaps, and the eps are longer than 60mins on average. Once recaps don't come out on the same day and too quickly, you should be fine.

Looking forward to I'm not a Robot, I hope it will be a good show to be my rom-com weekly dose..

Shin Se Kyung looks so pretty in all of Black Night posters/teasers, especially in her joseon clothes ! Maybe they cast her because they know she will look hella good in hanbok (just like in SFD)

Oh dear. That's a lot of premiers. I'm most interested in Jugglers, Black Knight, and I'm Not a Robot. I really don't want Jugglers to be another Radiant Office and would much rather it be unique or if anything be similar to Chief Kim. Similarly, I don't want another Goblin in Black Knight. I'm most apprehensive of I'm Not a Robot. That looks like it could go south the most after having a decent start and drawing me in because the premise it not hackneyed yet. Anyways, let's go!

The most beautiful goodbye is totally in my watchlist (it's even in my watchlist tho it's exam period). Partly because I've missed Choi Jiwoo partly because I just need the tears. Jugglers seems cute, gonna check the first week episodes while I miss Kim Raewon as well but he looks too gobliny :(

I can see INAR being a huge hit because no one likes SSK and NTL has already being burned by the audience. It just might break 20% YSH has a huge draw. He even made Ruler into a ratings winner.

Well Ruler also had another big name child actress Kim So-hyun who contributed equally to the high rating, aside from Yoo Seung-ho. Chae Soo-bin might not on the level as rating draw yet, so if this drama goes bad, it might not be a hit. Ruler wasn't a huge hit anyway, sure it was at the first place but comparing with other hits this year, it wasn't that huge. Its average rating was 12.4%, huge hit will be something like Defendant (21.69%)

I say huge hit because it has no competition while Ruler had more tough competition in SP and Queen. YSH had a huge hit in Remember as well and even that had bad writing and no KSH.

Whew, thankfully the only one of these I’m interested in for now is Jugglers. If it’s any good I’ll have 3 live shows to watch which seems manageable.

I’ve been so disappointed in Shin Se-kyung’s acting in the last year. She needs to step up her game, liven up a little. I want to like Black Knight but after Habaek I have little hope
