Hyeri, Choi Woo-shik up to join Jo Jung-seok’s body-swapping Two Cops

Now that Han Ji-min has officially passed on the offer, upcoming fantasy rom-com Two Cops is looking for a leading lady to join Jo Jung-seok (Jealousy Incarnate), who has accepted the lead role, and has found a potential candidate in Hyeri (Entertainer). Also up to join the cast is Choi Woo-shik (Fight My Way) in an unspecified role.

Two Cops will tell the story of a single-minded, dedicated violent crimes detective who finds himself cohabiting his own body with the soul of a sleazy con artist. Hah, I can easily picture Jo Jung-seok pulling off both “personalities” to great comedic effect, especially after watching him in his most recent film Hyung. Hyeri is up to play his love interest, a reporter who got to where she is now through sheer determination and with no connections to help her. She’s the type to go into a rage if she witnesses an injustice, but is also quick to shamelessly back down when she knows the situation is not in her favor.

I’m not sure whether she’ll end up in a wacky love triangle with the detective and the trespassing con artist’s soul, but judging by the character descriptions, it sounds like the romance will have a healthy dose of bickering, which is always a plus in my book. Also, it’s unclear whether the role Choi Woo-shik’s been offered is the con artist, but I almost don’t want him to be even though he’d be great at it, ‘cause that might mean less screen time for the actor and that would be criminal. He hasn’t had a lead role in a full-length drama since 2015 (his part in Fight My Way was more of a extended special appearance), and I’m eager to see him back on my screen.

I’m taking this casting in a “good news” and “bad news but hoping it’s not really as bad as I think it will be” kind of way. I adore Choi Woo-shik, but my reaction to Hyeri being considered after Han Ji-min backed out has been mixed. I enjoyed her performance in Answer Me 1988 as the bubbly, loud, and unaffected Deok-sun; so much so that I think it might be hilarious to see her as a reporter who studied her way to her position. But on the other hand, I haven’t heard many good things about her acting in her follow-up project Entertainer, so I’m a little wary to see her potentially pairing up with Jo Jung-seok. I’m going to keep an open mind, though, since she did manage to surprise me with an endearing portrayal in Answer Me 1988.

Two Cops is slated to follow 20th Century Boy and Girl in MBC’s Monday-Tuesday slot, which would put its premiere in November.

Ah,i'm torn between the amazing news of having Jo Jung Seok accepting the drama and having him soon on my screen with the inbetween news of Hyeri being his leading lady...I mean,i like her and all but she still has a lot to be on the same lavel as him(to say it nice)...How come they couldn't find a leading lady that can match him with so many great potential actresses, dramaland is not so desolate yet!!!

I was excited to hear that Jo Jung Seok has confirmed this interesting and peculiar role, but I did not know that Hyeri was up for the leading female role! Ugh. I already had to deal with her being paired with the wonderful Ji Sung in Entertainer. I could not believe in that romance.

Someone reposted some scenes between Jo Jung Suk -Gong Hyo Jin in IG today and it made me remember how much chemistry they had in Jealousy Incarnate, which I just can't see Hyeri would be able to do so with Jo Jung Suk.

Hyeri might be serviceable in some fluffy romcom with a partner which is on par with her, not someone who is much much higher level than her. Kdramaland doesn't lack of more competent / experienced actressess though. hmm

My right words,i didn't want to be rude but she is mediocre as acting and even more with such an amazing actor as Jo Jung Seok that will carry the show by himself...Hope she might say pass...
Like mentioned before, there are still great actresses in kdrama don't understand why they are so obsessed in finding so unmatched paires,i mean they could have given a chance to Kim Seul-gi for ex...It's not like they will gain ratings, as we know many dramas floping with idols so can't undertand their obsession...

If it's about JJS upcoming drama, we think about tons good actress automatically, and not an idol.
But I already told you that they'll cast somebody which never ever crossed our mind lol

No, just no. I loved hyeri on reply, so I really want her to do more dramas with actors her age, like see what happened with entertainer. Ji Sung is great, but a wrong pairing can ruin a good drama in making, so I hope she says no this time and doesn't ruin her career. I think someone like Lee Yo Won would look good opposite him.

i liked her in Reply 1988 also, but she seemed way out of her league in The Entertainer... it's almost as if she was intimidated by Ji Sung -- as was Yoon Kyung Sang playing opposite Ha Ji Won in The Time I Loved You. They both looked so nervous and self-conscious in their roles opposite such seasoned actors.

she fit the role in R88 and was cast with actors her age, so she did really well, i thought.

but i worry about this one... i don't think it's going to work.

Joining the "andwae" chorus. I strongly suspect that I only like Hyeri's acting when she's working with the Answer Me 1988 director. But even if her acting ability weren't an issue, I don't see her as a good fit for JJS... at all. I'm gonna be so bummed if she accepts this role.

I won't just write off hyeri, if a drama doesn't work, thats not just an actor's fault, is it? Hyeri nailed the deok sun role on reply, so I find it hard to believe that she's not a lead role material. On entertainer she looked so young and innocent opposite experienced actor ji sung, so I think she deserves more chances, but this isn't the right role for her either, so I hope she passes this on. I also wished Choi Woo Shik would get a lead role by now, he was great on 'hogu's love', and quite a good actor too.

Yes for lead role for Choi Woo Sik. He has debuted for many years already and talented enough. Hopefully by some actors leaving for military service, will give him a chance to lead a drama. He might have 1-2 years more before his enlistment.

I'll take Hyeri as a side character in something, but no to her being a leading lady. She's fine as a fun/silly high schooler, but isn't ready to pull of anything else. If Hyeri takes this it's going to be Entertainer all over again where the male lead is great, but Hyeri can't keep up acting-wise or chemistry-wise.

Also why do they keep trying to push Hyeri towards these men who are over a decade older than her? She's not capable of lessening the age gap.

Why do they continue to act like there are a shortage of actresses 30+????

Right?!? Is there no actress born in the 80s to act opposite him? I can look past age gaps usually, but Hyeri comes across as very young and very green against such a seasoned actor. Fingers crossed either way - Fingers crossed she turns it down. Fingers crossed that if she accepts she acts the hell out of it and has chemistry up the whazoo.

Agree with you, I don't mind with age gap, because there are some capable actressess who can act alongside much older actors, romance relationship or not.

For eg, Kim Go Eun-Gong Yoo have 12 years gap, Park Eun Bin -Kim Joo Hyuk have 20 years gap, Moon Geun Yeung -Park Shin Hyang also around 20 years gap, Kim So Eun-Ryu Jin have 18 years gap etc etc. Park Bo Young - Jo Jung Suk also have around 10 years gap.

It is at the end, still based on the acting talent & skill as well in order to ensure the age gap is just a trivial matter. If they want to cast young actress, they are many good actressess can be selected in 20s aside from Hyeri.

No. Please God, no.

She's terrible. I saw Entertainer. I saw Ji Sung try to carry his pathetic co-stars on his back while he was the only one putting on a good performance. Jo Jung-seok deserves a much better leading lady than this.

I don't understand why these companies can't go to one of the numerous actresses who are quite good, but often passed over for lead roles. Then there are those who are available, have been leads before, but are not given these particular roles often.

Just off the top of my head:

Seo Ji-hye
Han Chae-Ah
Jeon Hye-bin
Lim Ju-Eun
Son Yeo-Eun
Kim So-yeon
Song Yoon-A
Park Ha-Sun
Hwang Sun-Hee
Kong Seung-Yeon
Kim So-Eun

All much better than Hyeri, and many who would kill a lead role if given it. And if I actually thought about it, I could probably list a dozen more.

"But, it's her and huge gab between the leads."
"Then don't watch it. As simple as that."
"HOW DARE YOU TAKE IT LIGHTLY LIKE THAT, CHOI WOOSHIK WILL BE THERE!"

Just me and my cruel internal mind. Sigh.

No offense to Hyeri fans.. but I don't think she is the best option for female lead for Jo Jung Suk! She is still too junior in her acting skill in comparison with Jung Suk. Not match also from chemistry so far. I can see that Jung Suk will give his brilliant acting skill with the character description. But I welcome Choi Woo Shik very much! I can feel the vibe of Bromance already between them!!

I LOVE Jungseok & Hyeri individually, but I don't see them looking great together if they are set up to be in a love line. Can we pleaseeee stop pairing Hyeri with much older men? I think she looked great with Bogum in Reply 1988 and with the few cuts I saw in Entertainer, I think she looked great with Minhyuk too (although, I got to say, I didn't watch Entertainer at all, so my judgement on their chemistry might be wrong as a whole). & I think this is because they are closer to her age range.

Plus, with the experience of Jungseok, I would have loved for him to be able to act alongside an actress who also has the experience and within the same age range as him.

Given these casts, I would rather Hyeri be paired up with Wooshik (because I think both have this bright image) and we'll continue to search for another actress for Jungseok. But of course, this is just my opinion.

What's really squicking me out is the age difference... Hyeri looks like she could be JJS's niece. I loved her in Answer Me 1988, and in terms of appearance and demeanor, her and PBG's characters worked well together, but she and JJS just don't look good together. This was also what happened with Ji Sung in Entertainer. I don't want to make assumptions about her acting ability just yet because even though Entertainer was lackluster, AM1988 was really good, but she looks like a kid next to JJS.

Jo Jung Suk has the ability to make great chemistry with actresses who are a lot younger than him. He used to act with IU and Park Bo Young and had amazing chemistry with them. Age gap is just a number if both the leads have great acting abilities. We can find many more example like that in Dramaland. If Hyeri has good acting skill I think this pairing is working just fine. Let's wait till we see them on their press conference and continue to judge. I'm looking toward for this drama anyway.

I liked her role in Reply 1988 because what she demanded of her was fulfilled, but nothing was expecional. It could have been better if they had a better actress, plus her role was small compared to all other characters and interesting actors.

Now, no offense Jung-Seok deserves a woman to stand beside him and not a girl. Do not get me wrong, for me he needs someone experienced, an experienced woman, his profile requires it. When you need someone who's starting out in adulthood call Hyeri to play the role.

I'm actually more optimistic than most about this pairing. I loved Hyeri in R88, and I'm sure as much as the success of the show was due to the ensemble cast, she did nail Deok-sun. Also, pairing wise, the age gap seems manageable given that I've seen Jo Jung-seok romance IU. That was all sorts of cute!
