Yunho in talks to join Man From Another Star
by girlfriday
Hm, this isn’t exactly what I’d call a draw, but idol-actor Yunho is reportedly being courted to join the new SBS alien rom-com Man From Another Star starring Kim Soo-hyun and Jeon Ji-hyun. On the upside, it’s just a second lead, and he’s got a similar role under his belt with Yawang earlier this year. I didn’t watch that drama, so you guys will have to tell me if his acting improved. Did it? A little? For this new drama’s sake, I’m hoping magical things happened.
The new fusion rom-com from the writer of You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly and the PD of Tree With Deep Roots will span 400 years from the time of Gwanghae’s reign to the present day, following the life of an alien (Kim Soo-hyun) who crash-lands on Earth and either gets trapped here or decides he really likes it, and sticks around for a couple centuries. Maybe he waits for love, because in the present day he’ll fall for Jeon Ji-hyun’s character, a top actress with a diva reputation and a personality to match.
Yunho is still considering the role, but the character he’s being wooed to play is Jeon Ji-hyun’s fiancé, a second-generation chaebol. He’ll be the main obstacle in the love triangle with Kim Soo-hyun. So Yi-hyun was recently cast as Jeon Ji-hyun’s frenemy, though we’ll have to wait to see if this will be a love square that goes all ways. I’m not excited by either of the second leads, but I suppose I’m not really going to be watching the drama for them. Alien fish-out-of-water hijinks. That’s where it’s at.
Man From Another Star follows Heirs in December.

My reaction was, have they ran out of good actors with so many of them leaving for the army? Don't get me wrong, I love TVXQ. I really do. They have catchy music and Yunho is a decent singer (You can stone me to death if you want, but, I stand by my belief that he is nothing spectacular) at best. Kim Soo Hyun, to his credit, have been a good actor and did manage to climb up to great on some occasion that my noona heart melted every time. To be honest, this will do Yunho a great disadvantage as he will be constantly compared to his junior. I believe that Yunho have potential to grow and become better, but, I doubt the rom-com and repetitive/similar roles will help him in the long run. He have to be smarter in choosing roles and if he knows better, he would look at himself and choose roles where he can nurture his acting ability. As for this drama, I don't think it'll do him good and as a second lead, we should be able to 'pity' the guy or hate him on some level like what Seo In Geok did in Master's Sun (God, my heart breaks for him and in the same time I wanna sucker punch him for being slow)... Maybe a different role for Yunho and the casting directors could look for someone else.

actually, they didn't run out of good actors its just that MAYBE they want this drama to be popular outside korea (but i think having jun ji hyun and kim soo hyun alone will make this drama boom outside korea) ... i just don't get it why they should cast someone who's as stiff like him..

I know that. But, it was my initial thought. Yunho is not the best actor out there. Even when I hope and looking forward to his growth, I just think he should learn to diversify. I believe he can and will get better with effort. As for making it popular world wide, having KSH is enough to make head turns. Though he might not be as legendary as the TVXQ, I do believe that his own personal charm would work well. It sucks how production still think fans are generally stupid and shove predictable casting just to get the worldwide recognition. If he does get cast, I am still gonna watch it on the merit of how much I wanted to see he had grown since his last drama. I wouldn't count him out completely, but, I am still not gonna put high hopes when and if he get cast.
Well... A girl can hope for better ensemble.

I have never seen any of the dramas Yunho has acted in so far so I don't have an opinion about his acting, but I really want to watch this drama, especially since it's Kim Soo Hyun's and Jeon Ji Hyun's grand comeback! I'm not so fond of the second leads either but I might just watch it for the sake of Kim Soo Hyun and Jeon Ji Hyun's sizzling chemistry with one another.

If the network has to cast Yunho, please make his role a Dancer or Singer which he is good at.... But not a Chaebol again like in Yawang. Please don't repeat a previous mistake!

I still think his small cameo in Poseidon was decent. And earlier Banjun Dramas, kkk. Maybe becuz he felt at ease acting with his fellow members.
If he wants to take the role. I'll support him. It's Jun Ji Hyun, his long-time ideal type. Haha, if someone asked me to act with Yunho in a drama, I'd agree right away not matter how much hate I'd receive for my crappy acting. But hey, if my role is a girl who loves Yunho, I think I'll nail it, LOL.
And totally agree about him trying too hard and it comes off as over-acting his lines. Baby tries hard in everything he does. T T

it seems like supernatual dramas (at least I hope this is supposed to be super-natural unlike Cheondamdong Alice {I totally expected some Alice and Wonderland type stuff in there}) are taking off this time since Master's Sun is doing well. I hope it doesn't turn into a time traveling/body switching thing all over again though.

I don't know about his acting but I bet he is excited to see Jun Ji Hyun back on the telly since he was a big crazy fan of hers during the DBSK days right after My Sassy Girl became a blockbuster.
Maybe he followed up with his manager to squeeze in a cameo but it grew to be a second lead :P

Well, it's up to Yunho if he would join the cast or not. And if he will accept the offer, I won't feel bad either.
I've watched Yawang because I was way TOO CURIOUS if Yunho's acting has been improved and I should say...well his acting is NOT THAT horribly bad as others would think of it. Yeah, his acting maybe lacking, but in reference to his previous drama Heading to the Ground, I can say he has improved, but not that lot.
If there would be reason why Yunho should not accept the role, it's not because of his "terrible" acting, but because TVXQ's 10th year anniversary is fast approaching, and in these coming months we're sure he would be super busy as hell as usual. Then adding this drama to his schedule, oh no, he would be dying from burnout hahahaha

I dont wanna be mean but nope.. No no no.. No Yunho... I cant stand his acting!! Please i cant believe theres no -rookie- actors to play the classic chaebol role... my dislike is a bit similar to my discontent with Yonghwa's one facial expression now that I think of it.. If it has to be a SM male, call Changmin or Siwon instead...

Wow, you guys are brutal! I have to say – I am a Yunho fan, and yes I do agree that his acting skills have much to be desired but he did improve a lot from the beginning of Yawang to his death. So the more he acts the better he'll become because Yunho is the type to always try his best. I think a rom-com will suit him better even though in HTHG he did overexaggerate. And yes, he must be excited about the opportunity to work with JJH since he was crushing on her when My Sassy Girl first came out! I can't wait!

I might be the minority here that love to see Yunho in drama again. Absolutely, he is not the best, but he is not the worst. He wasn't doing well in HTTG, but I blame for the scrpit too. His character at the beginning made him like an idiot but it gradually improved during the storyline developing. In Yawang, I cried until my eyes were swollen because of him. So, go for it, Yunho, I definitely support you!!

Yunho's definitely not a great actor, but in his defense, he didn't have much to work with because Yawang had a terrible script.
I rather watch the Banjun dramas Yunho did a while back because romantic comedies seem to suit him more. Not OTT melodramatic dramas like Yawang...
