Actress Kim Yun-jin is one of the first-generation actors from the Korean entertainment scene who has played a major role in an American TV series.

She made her small screen debut in Korea with the drama "Splendid Holiday" in 1996 and starred in some box office hits, like the crime action film "Swiri" (1999) and the thriller "Seven Days" (2007). Then, she went to America and starred in two American TV shows, including ABC's popular adventure drama "Lost," which ran for six seasons from 2004-2010.

As "Lost" gained huge popularity and was televised to more than 100 countries around the world, Kim rose to international fame and was nicknamed a "world star" in Korea.

Now, the Korean American actress stars in "Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area," a latest Korean-language Netflix original that is available in nearly 200 nations from last week.

"In 2010 when I wrapped up 'Lost,' I couldn't dream of this moment, that a Korean-language show produced by Koreans and starring Korean actors is released in the entire world," Kim said in an online media interview with Yonhap new agency, adding that she was a rare Asian cast member in the ABC drama. "It's incredible that Korean-made content has opportunities to be shown globally through streaming platforms," she said.

I remember watching “Lost” as the two characters spoke in Korean to the confusion of other characters and the audience. It really brought home the issue of communication in any situation (survival, work, marriage, etc.) She was a pioneer Asian actress getting an opportunity to be in a prime time US drama. However, it still took 18 years for general acceptance of Korean actors and stories in America.

Happy Friday, all!

Is anyone here a fan of 2014 kdrama "Discovery of Love"? You might be interested to know it has been made into a Naver webtoon - six episodes so far. The first OST for the webtoon has just been released - it is a remake of a 2005 song and is sung by Hwang Chi Yeul "What My Tears Say" :)

You did well to last this long…I hope you find a decent drama to replace it. Are you watching Jinxed at first? I had to let that one go after last weeks episodes.

Hwang In-youp is so miscast. I'm lucky Kim Young-dae passed on the role. I know Kim Young-dae isn't a great actor, but he was perfect in Sh**ting Stars, while Gong Chan in Why Her has the worst characterization.

Gong Chan + whiney/possessive Yoon Sang is the end of me for Why Her? but it hasn't deterred me. The recaps will provide whatever info I missed whenever the FF button starts it job. However, it distracts me so much so that I don't get to enjoy watching team 8 converse when they're (Chan and Yoon-sang) with rest of the group.
And had they made Gong Chan's hairstyle more matured, it would have dialed down the unappealing effect. It's so glaring when he's being a prick and his hair just do one thing - accentuate it more to a point that it feels like a childish tantrum.

Chan and Yoon-sang do not pass the male equivalent of the Bechdel test. Every single one of their conversations revolve around Soo-jae.

The kids in Group 8 take me out of this drama. Why Her should've been an adult drama. Yoon-sang is annoying with Chan, but Bae In-hyuk's acting is great in his father and brother scenes.

Thanks for the heads up, i watched ep 1 and it’s been sitting m my feed untouched. There’s plenty of good dramas to watch!

There's this feeling with watching an old drama that resonates quite well and reading the recaps here simultaneously. That's the vibe I'm getting with You Are My Spring and Marriage Contract at the moment. The recapper's comment section in Marriage Contract especially is making me miss the good ol' days of full recaps.

I read recaps by JavaBeans and Girl Friday for a 2012 drama recently. That was more fun than watching the drama. They were so free-wheeling and hilarious in their commentary.

Saya and Lollypip really did a good one with Marriage Contract. It seems like a co-recap. Whether they are reaffirming or disagreeing to agree a past sequence in their commentary, I love the flow.

It's my second rewatch, Marriage Contract I mean, yet, it feels like I'm going over the recap and commentary for the first time.

Should I consider watching cafe minam? I watched 1st ep just for 15 mins and slept.. wondering if I should give it a chance!

Watching psychopath diary - 3 eps in, It's hilarious and Yoon Shi Yoon is awesome!

and... I'm loving Attorney Woo!! "Even if you read it straight or backwards, I am just Woo Young Woo."

I'm also loving Attorney Woo!

I watched the first two episodes of Cafe M. last night, and am not sure I'll continue. They were a weird mishmash -- sometimes it seemed like the show wanted to be a live-action cartoon, sometimes a crime thriller, sometimes something else... Seo In-guk is having a blast playing a quirky, larger-than-life character, but I actually liked him best in his quieter moments. Although his shaman routine with the bells and the fan is pretty hilarious.... I think the show wants us to believe he's still a crusader for justice, but some of his antics in episode 2 seemed pretty despicable. I hope we'll find out later that he was laying the ground for a lasting arrest and conviction, not just profiting off of crime.

Cafe Minamdang was a bit of a dragggggg, right after the intro. I'm not a person who likes movies executed in Cafe Minamdang fashion but I sat through and it was worth it. The FF button did a few gigs though but it doesn't devalue the watch, it is worth it.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

Always be careful what you wish for, Beanies! I have been talking about decreasing my laptop time for a couple of weeks now, and the universe keeps coming up with the most extravagant ways to make sure my wish comes true. The latest? Mononucleosis!🥱

I had been suffering from high fever combined with horrible migraine and muscle ache for a few nights in a row for no obvious reason and the doctor requested to draw some blood because he could not find anything either. The blood results came in on Tuesday and my body did not waste any time in chaining me to my bed and pillows.

Today I got to sit on the sofa and enjoy a proper meal for the first time. As a small reward I am writing this post quickly before curfew calls!😴

I'm loving the long hair trend.
I don't know when did it start, I just remember Ryu Jun Yeol looking hot in Human Disqualification and (GOT7) Jae Beom looking hot this last comeback.
I watched a interview with the cast of Alchemy of Souls and I just couldn't stop looking at Yoo Jun Sang and Shin Seung Ho.

Let the hair grow, ma boys, let the hair grow.

I have dropped so many dramas recently that started out promising and then became a waste of my time, I hope the next batch are better. I am waiting for four episodes before I start watching Extraordinary attorney Woo even though it sounds like it could be one for me, the trailer put me off. So far the feedback is great but this has happened too many times now…

I feel the same way. I tried Eve and the whole time I was watching my mouth was gaping. For a person who anticipates a simple kiss scene, it was too much for me. Though I have to say the casting is perfect, the rest is too much for me.
Is alchemy of souls good? I'm on way to starting it.

I didn’t start Alchemy it’s not my style of drama but it looked like it was meeting the expectations of those who are watching so it definitely sounded like it was worth a try.

I left Eve part way through the first episode, thankfully missing the graphic sex scenes, Kiss Sixth sense after the second I think (I started the webtoon and preferred that version) Jinxed at first after 4 episodes, The sound of magic, Wedding hell, Doctor lawyer and Woori after first episodes.
I have not started some that sounded good on paper and have been glad i waited as they have gone downhill quickly.

I'm the same as well. I can't seem to stick to any dramas recently and the only one I think I can follow along is Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Fingers crossed it will keep me enchanted till the end.

I'm on the verge of dropping Alchemy of Souls. I left it at halfway into Episode 3 and have not felt the compulsion to go back and pick it up which means this is a bad sign. Heck, being able to leave an episode halfway is already a bad sign.

I usually do this if the angst sets in and watch something else and come back to it if I can’t stay it goes on hold or is dropped. Was there a reason for walking off boredom or tiredness or just not feeling it?
There’s a whole new batch of dramas coming so I am hoping that there will be something great in the mix.

I guess it's just not feeling it. Like, I don't particularly care if he doesn't learn magic/martial arts or he remains in the dark about it birth secret. Having said that, I managed to push through till episode 6 last weekend and I'm beginning to be semi invested in Jung SoMin's character's back story.

I started Our Beloved Summer just now because it popped up when I logged in to Netflix. So far so good :)

I don't know how they handle visas in your country but in my country if you have any missing or not satisfied document they ask for it again, they don't give rejection because of those things.
I hope you will get good news soon :)

Is anyone a fan of Cha Eun-woo's acting? I believe people tend to be to harsh on him. They say his acting is stiff (which it can be sometimes) but I believe he's gotten a lot better. I don't think any actor/actress is perfect in their roles. Some are better at it though than others though. I always hear negative things about kpop idols turn actors. People tend to always focus on what they can do better instead of praising them for their improvements.

Junho and IU are the two idols that seem to have received the most praise for their acting.

IU is fantastic, it comes naturally to her but for some it's hard to execute raw emotion. Sometimes it can be forced, not just with K idols turned actors but with some of the top k actors to. Some show raw talent while others have to build it and make it seem authentic.

I’ve seen him in two dramas (Gangnam Beauty and True Beauty) and I think he’s improving? I’d like to see him in a role that wasn’t cold aloof guy.

I agree to, everyone has a beginning, if he continues working on his acting it will get so much better.. His main issue is he isnt good at portraying emotions well but overall I wouldn't say his acting is bad. I enjoy his shows so much that I find myself re watching his shows over some of these so called *wonderful amazing dramas* that as soon I start watching it makes me bored and I drop the dramas... You could try watching his drama , The Best Hit, he's like a supporting role, but plays a goofy role and is very charming in it.

Cha Eun-Woo has a lot of fans. He can't complain about it.

I don't think he's good, neither completely bad. I liked in the beginning of Gangnam Beauty but at the end his character changed but not his acting. In True Beauty, he was clearly the weakest for me. I liked him in The Best Hit. In Rookie Historian, his character was pretty useless and his acting couldn't balance it and the 2 others actors were great.

There are actors who are good in second role but can't shine the same in main roles.

In hindsight, maybe putting the words "bombs bursting in air" right in the lyrics of our national anthem wasn't the greatest idea we've collectively ever had.

The funny/ironic thing is that here in my city, we're having our usual summer weather of totally socked-in fog so I can hear every explosion but can't see a damned thing. It's a work night, it's after 10 pm, and this is going to go on for hours.

Eh, whatever, happy 4th of July to those who celebrate.
