Kang Ji-hwan returns to musical roots
by javabeans
With the drama Coffee House out of the way, now Kang Ji-hwan is turning his attention to his next role, which comes in a musical called Caffeine (Cafe In). (The word is a pun on “caffeine,” although promos show the English word written as “Cafe In.”)
The story unfolds around a female barista who’s unsuccessful in dating and a playboy sommelier who coaches her in romance. It’s a pretty standard romantic-comedy setup, although I suppose the musical angle gives this one its own character. This is actually Season 2, after the initial musical performed strongly nearly two years ago.
Anticipation for the production jumped when Kang first announced his participation back in May, and he’ll serve both his Korean and Japanese fanbases — he produces the musical in Korea and stars in the production in Japan. (As far as I can tell, he won’t be acting in the Korean run.) The show will open at Seoul’s Daehakro Art One Center on August 4, then moves to Japan in October. Kang Ji-hwan launched right into rehearsals after Coffee House wrapped, and will take the stage in Tokyo on October 16.

For real? Musical roots? I remember watching him attempt to sing on a variety show and the guy could not carry a tune. Hopefully he was just nervous in front of the cameras, although what's he going to sound like singing in the spotlight in front of a packed theater?

I LOVE HIM to bits!! I definitely fell for him in his portrayal of an eccentric writer Lee Jin Soo in COFFEE HOUSE!! Such a brilliant actor!! I don't think there's any other actor who can make a character come to LIFE the best way like he does!! Kudos to KANG JI HWAN, I'm just simply in awe♥

After hearing he sing, Awww it must be a hell of hard work for him to do this musical thing, ha, ha, ha KJH fighting!! Still it will be wonderful to see (not hear) him in a musical.
Thank God he is not the actor-want-to-try-to-be-a-singer type.
KJH is really advisable to stay where you are right now, even with this I've already been rooting for you.

Thank heavens I just became a Kang Ji Hwan fan. So I can still cure my Coffee House withdrawal by watching his other dramas and movies.
The guy is really adorable and very talented.
Thanks Javabeans and GreenFreak for sharing the links. :-)

He has a average voice ... not of a singer type but nonetheless pleasant. I am watching Be strong Geum Soon right now because of him. He sang a full song there not to mention that famous dance move he did there (",). That drama is really very good. It's a shame not gonna be seeing him in a while ( but I hope not too long). Thanks JB for the update. I know going to your blog is a treat ,after all where else will i hear news of KANG JI HWAN? (",)

I want to watch Be Stong Geum Soon, too, but I don't have the stamina and disk space to download all 163 episodes.

Is that a most recent picture JB? I don't like this photoshoot. If he redyed his hair 0 , o I can totally tell by the dullness of its luster. Bad hairstylist. Give the star some hair treatments. I don't like the makeup; it looks cakey. Now here is an example how to block a star's luminescence.
He's working so hard. T , T It's heartbreaking to stare into his eyes. Be well KJH.

Wow, our time flies sooooooooo fast! Ah, he will be ready to act for "Cafe In" musical but I won't watch it, oh well. Cuz' I didn't live in Korea.......=/

@Han Mania
Yup its 163 episodes but its -30 min each. Its quite looong but so worth watching it. Kang Ji Hwan is in his earlier acting chops but he pulled it off beautifully. Watching BSGS made me compared his other love interest in most of his dramas and One thing I realized was KJH tends to steal the spotlight from his female counterpart, his acting is really that good that they tends to become overshadowed. Not the case here in BSGS, I must say I love his chemistry here with Han Hye Jin better because both complemented each other beautifully.
