More EunJoo and HaWon interactions please! So cuuuute! 😁

HAHAHAHA I love this! And how she’s like – why aren’t you eating the soup? does it taste bad? And he just drinks it like a puppy

Honestly, he’s a puppy with everything that even tangentially touches Seo-woo. What a cutie!

      2
      2

I loved the way he said “Rubbish” to one of SeoWoo’s hundred reasons. I think he got on EunJoo good side with that. 😊

        2
        1

I wonder if he knew what Seo-woo was talking about. I like to think he did, which would mean his feelings for Seo-woo have possibly eclipsed his (romantic) feelings for Ji-soo.

          1
          1

I think he did. I’ve always maintained that his romantic interest in JiSoo was pretty much dead by the time he met SeoWoo. JiSoo was a bad habit. JiSoo was his support system in a strange land and during a really tough time and I feel that he felt a sense of obligation to ensure she was happy. He only keeps obsessing about why she was not happy and seems concerned that her unhappiness was due to him. These are fairly normal thoughts for a childhood friend/first love. Also the relationship with JiSoo seems very unbalanced with HaWon giving a lot. With SeoWoo the dynamic is completely different and a lot more balanced. As they bother said it’s mutual. I hope their mutual love gets them through the tough times ahead.

The most frustrating was the notion that Yuri can hang out with KH and SW only in the absence of MinJung! The show championed the idea of second wives and stepmoms being replaceable! Sigh! 😒

6
8

Hmmm.. Minjeong will always be Seo-woo’s mom. I didn’t see it as her being replaceable. She said so herself, she wants Ganghwa to do a goob job letting Yuri go. It would be super awkward for her to be there during the trip because that was Yuri’s place with her friends and to say goodbye to them.

If anything, I thought the drama showed Minjeong being the mom for Seo-woo even though she didn’t give birth to her. Even Yuri acknowledged that fact. She even took out the books at the kindergarten that painted stepmoms as evil.

    3
    1

I think we are going to agree to disagree. I don’t believe in the whole “it’s Yuri’s place”. The show/writers spent all that time establishing a friendship between MinJung and Yuri so why would it be awkward for her to be around them. I’ve always been frustrated with how the show made it seem like Yuri or her family couldn’t be around MinJung. Maybe it’s a cultural thing but in this day and age behaving like MinJung doesn’t exist is what is awkward. Why is Yuri saying bye involve pretending that Yuri, KangHwa, and SeoWoo are a family unit without MinJung. If it had been one outing I can understand but essentially the way the show portrayed Yuri’s last few days is that MinJung just disappears. KangHwa was quick to take of his wedding ring too. The show could have been so much more if they had treated MinJung’s character with respect from the beginning. Yuri’s mom was the only one who showed any respect for MinJung. Every other character mostly behaved as if MinJung was a obstacle for 15 episodes and how because of her Yuri can’t take her place and live. In the 16th episode we learn that if Yuri stays then SeoWoo can’t stop seeing ghosts and that’s why Yuri can’t live! So why make MinJung the bad guy. Why make KangHwa and HyungJung say stuff like “you can take your place” as if MinJung was just holding Yuri’s place. It was so frustrating. Yuri’s place is Yuri’s place MinJung never took Yuri’s place and Yuri can never take MinJun’s place. Human beings are not replaceable. Argh! It was so frustrating.

I mean you have friends you just don’t mix together. The camping trip was for her to say goodbye to Hyunjeong.

I also have a problem with the rules they set up for her coming back to.life because they didn’t stick to it and really, what’s the point when we got lied to anyway? I didn’t like what they did to Minjeong’s character either. It looked like they all just bullied her.

        4
        1

That’s what was frustrating. The drama was all over the place. HyungJung was supposedly MinJung’s friend too. Why did they spend like three episodes setting up that friendship? It was also frustrating that HyungJung never had any remorse towards MinJung. I know! I know! She said sorry but her sorry and for that matter Yuri’s apology were perfunctory at best.

There were so many inconsistencies and so many mixed messages from the show. Reading comments on the last few episodes with folks talking about Yuri being the original wife & mother and MinJung should step aside. It was disappointing and more than a little distasteful. I had such hopes for this drama.

          5
          1

It seems like the writer got affected by comments because most naver comments want Yuri and Ganghwa together which doesn’t really make sense. Coz I mean, she’s dead. But yeah. I dont understand why people would want those to together and discard Minjung.

            5
            0

I was hoping by the end, they would’ve explained to Seo Woo that Yu Ri is her birth mom, but MJ will always be her mom too. And then they bring MJ to see Yu Ri’s family so that they can establish it’s perfectly fine for the family to be together even after she’s gone. The lot even have their goodbyes together.

Instead we got Kang Hwa telling Seo Woo in her freaking sleep about the mom and Kang Hwa never fighting for MJ but they somehow still end up not divorcing. And all the other ghosts plotline was just abandoned and they went up in a jiffy despite having fought Midongdaek for years. *big sigh*

    3
    2

The way you laid out makes more sense to me. Essentially the show could have portrayed Yuri spending her 49days actually doing the things she came to do – protect SeoWoo, her her family and friends to move on, help the other ghosts. Instead we had 15 episodes of mostly “Sad KangHwa” and “the second wife is in Yuri’s place” and one episode to do all the things Yuri said she was there to do. They didn’t even show her father and sister learning about her leaving and they get to say goodbye in essentially one picnic!

      2
      0

The first paragraph is exactly what should have happened.

I know many didn’t like the plotline with all of the other ghosts, but I did, and I don’t like how they had Yuri promise to grant them one wish and then dropped it like two episodes later.

There were many unbelievable things in Hi!Bye!Mamma, the most unbelievable though was that SeoWoo, a six year old, perfectly understood that Yuri is also her mom and was able to say “Bye Mom”

5
6

I find it more amazing that she was supposed to not know all this time when they all kept talking around her and Yu-ri’s been around her for 5 years saying stuff like Mom’s here. Kids are smart.

    3
    1

Either way makes no sense to me. After weeks of it being about “Sad KangHwa” they pivoted time SeoWoo and spent most of the episode talking about how MinJung is SeoWoo’s favorite person and her mom. Then the last 5 minutes was a six year old who is supposedly super attached to her mom hanging out with a bunch of folks without her mom. Even if all of that is believable, I can’t believe that SeoWoo understood enough to calmly say bye to Yuri who has now been her mom for a handful of days. Yikes!

      2
      1

It’s because they wasted so much time on unnecessary stuff and just assumed everyone would understand how Seowoo gets it. I wished Seowoo talked more tbh because we honestly don’t know much about what’s in her mind.

        5
        1

When the writer made that setup about Seo-woo’s slower progress in talking and learning, I thought getting to know what was on her mind would be a part of the important journeys in this drama. But yeah, we got almost nothing from Seo-woo, which is a shame because it would be interesting to see how she actually processed the craziness of those 49 days and what she thought about her 2 moms.

          6
          2

If there was a show that could have benefited from a (at minimum) four episode cut that would be Hi! Bye! Mama.
What a mess!

I think she’ll develop a kind of motherly relationship with Eun-joo. I hope that’s what happens.

Also, I think there’s going to be some link with the resident doctor, who overheard Ha-won listening to Minjung’s voice on the device.

From what I understood I think she had some relation with her or her mother in the past, or I am making this up?

You are not making it up. Kim MinJung stayed in EunJoo boarding house when EunJoo was little.

I don’t care for any of the auxiliary characters at all, but Seo-woo and Ha-won are so cute and I love how they’re already sort of dating but haven’t put a name to it yet. This show makes me want to sigh happily just thinking about it.

I know I’m going to finish Hi Bye Mamma but I’m hate watching it at this point.
KangHwa’s character is the worst! I now agree with all the other comments that KangHwa does not love MinJeong.

KangHwa doesn’t deserve MinJeong. Nor does he deserve SeoWoo or to be a doctor. For five years this dude has been given a pass at work. I couldn’t believe it when he told MinJeong that he his Yuri’s return from her because she was happy having friends!! The nerve!! 😡 He should have never remarried. Not because remarrying is wrong because no one deserves this dude. All those scenes of him hyperventilating only made me mad. Maybe if the show had chosen to tackle this, I don’t know 10 episodes ago and it hadn’t shown Yuri, HyeonJeong, KangHwa all repeatedly lying and deceiving some on in each episode I might have felt sympathy. Now all I feel is 😤😖😡

      *hid Yuri’s return

      0
      0

I guess I see it a little more as a show about how each person expresses their grief differently and moves on (or not) differently. I’m not giving anyone a pass on how they hid Yuri’s return though.

      3
      1

I was giving it a pass for awhile for that reason. Grief is nonlinear and very hard to deal. I understand that but KangHwa manger to date and marry MinJeong. He did that without dealing with the issues he had at work or his grief related to Yuri. His friends and coworkers enabled him to not deal with grief. Also, the show is not addressing/showing how KangHwa managed to take care of SeoWoo till he married MinJeong. All the montages of him suffering and barely holding it together and all I can think of is “Where is SeoWoo? Who is taking care of the baby?” It does seem like after he got married he just left SeoWoo to MinJeong. A lot of my frustration is that the writer/show has been harping on KangHwa’s great “Sadness” and Yuri “Enduring” his second marriage for 14 episodes. We are told all the issues are due to his guilt and he FINALLY starts to address it and BAM he finds out Yuri is doing to die again unless, wait for it, she takes back her family. So if she were to die now it would once again be KangHwa’s fault because he remarried. It’s a mess!

        0

I felt like it was frustrating because his character was going nowhere all this time. This is coming in super late into the show that it doesn’t work for us anymore.

Also, everything would have been so much better if Yu-ri told everyone the truth from DAY 1.

    4
    0

I think he does love her. In a very different way from how he loved Yuri but still. He has not been a good husband to her however. Love is not enough and one has to make effort in a relationship which he hasn’t been doing.

His grief made it hard for him to give himself wholly to her but he should have tried harder given that he did bring her into his world. I think people deal with grief differently; some rise above it, some work through it and others become so crippled by it that it takes up most if not all of who they are. Kang-hwa didn’t exactly deal with his. He kept putting band-aids on it while getting on with his life…somewhat.

He is a neglectful husband but I do think he loves her.

    2
    1

I was wondering why I got so mad about KangHwa and I realized it was not so much about love but about trust. He (along with Yuri and HyeongJeong) repeatedly broke MinJeong’s trust. KangHwa not only keeps stuff to himself he repeatedly lied to MinJeong and recruited HyeonJeong and GuSeong to lie for him. While I’ve raged mostly about KangHwa, Yuri and HyeonJeong don’t come of looking too good either. The show had us believe that Yuri watched KanhHwa and MinJeong when she was a ghost and knows all about them, so she knows how alone MinJeong felt both in her marriage and among the other mothers. Yuri would have know how hard it was for MinJeong to open up and trust her and HyeonJeong. HyeonJeong too listened to MinJeong pour her heart out to her and then just continues to deceive her. The show/writer wants us to sympathize with these characters but letting them carry on with all the deceit (including not telling Yuri’s family the truth) is making it very difficult to do that.

      3
      1

I agree. They did her dirty by not telling her the truth. They, Kang-hwa especially should have come out with the truth not long after he found out about Yuri. I get freaking out at the beginning but he should have told her before they even hired Yuri. It’s messed up that they didn’t.

Another thing I didn’t like was Kang-hwa telling Min-jeong he withheld the truth for her sake. I hate when people take away other people’s agency like that. She had a right to know and make her decision or choice after.

        1

Argh! 😤
Hi Bye Mama is driving me crazy! How long will they keep harping on how “sad” KangHwa was and how much Yuri has endured because he got remarried.
The endless lying!!!!
