my eyes are still swollen from binge watching the remaining 12 eps of The Double, I should rest and sleep but I keep thinking of what next (series) to spend my time with 😛
It’s next on my watchlist because I keep reading such good feedback about it! 😊
I’m currently finishing up Season 2 of Cdrama, Lost You Forever and halfway thru Cdrama Best Choice Ever (both dramas feature the same actress as the FL, Yang Zi)
wow, thanks, I’ll check them out. I’m new to cdrama. I casually started The Double without any idea what the story was about but got hooked after watching the first episode.
No problem!! There’s a handful of us on here who watch Cdramas and would be happy to give recs if you want! 😊 Don’t hesitate to tag us!! I can’t remember who all of us are at the moment, but I’m sure you’ll find out one way or another 🤣🤣
cdramas are addictive in a different way than kdramas.
If you haven’t watched it yet I recommend The Love Between Fairy and Devil!!!!
or The Untamed
(I watched both numerous times…)
@zindigo I am also feeling the same about some PARTS about Lost You Forever (more so for Season 1), but as a whole, I think it’s more the characters I will have a difficult time letting go of— especially Tuscan Jing, the FL’s boyfriend— more than anything
I find that between K-dramas and C-dramas, if we really break things down, many dramas from both countries are actually “same story, different delivery”, but C-dramas are waaayyyy better in their delivery that it doesn’t even feel that it’s actually the same from another, imho, and therefore, I don’t feel like Cdramas run into the problem of feeling repetitive, but I do get that feeling with Kdramas after a while
@bebeswtz I think a huge difference is that they base most dramas on novels, which are by their nature more complex than an original screenplay, so each one feels exciting and different. And then they go all in with 30-40 eps, which is totally immersive. Overall, I find c-dramas to be more emotionally engaging experiences because the productions are so much richer. There’s another piece of this puzzle but I need to find the right way to express it. Maybe in a fan wall post 😉
@zindigo Feel free to tag (or not, no hard feelings 😊) once you’ve compiled your thoughts onto a FanWall post!
And yes, maybe I feel the difference because the root of the stories for Kdramas vs. A dramas is different:
As you say, about 80% Cdramas are adapted from existing novels, but for Kdramas, it’s the opposite (20% webtoon or manhwa adaptations) and 80% but will always seem to have changes made during the love-shoots as per what the majority of the domestic Korean population wants, and Korea seems to REALLY like their swoony (and overused imho) tropes 🤣
oh I read many positive reviews re The Love Between Fairy and Devil, added it to my list; will definitely check The Untamed. Thanks for the recommendations.
The Double is a very good drama. Very binge worthy and never a dull moment.
If you are in the mood for another timeslip revenge/redemption storyline, I recommend The Princess Royal or Story of Kunning Palace. If you are in the mood of a hero journey and court politics, Joy of Life would be a good pick. I started the 2024 Special Episodes version and I love it.
Finally, able to complete the series! What a ride. Just sad that some of the characters I like didn’t make it til the end ☹ What was the writer thinking? There’s just several minutes remaining in the show, the writer could have just let them survive and return to the capital ☹ Anyway, thanks for episode 40.5, at least I had a glimpse of Xue Li and Duke Su’s married life. I will now be in the lookout for Wang Xing Yue projects, to see if he’s good in his other roles.

I think this is such a clever ad. I wonder if there have been other couples from dramas who have done something similar.

or should I continue reading Omniscient Reader? it may be better to complete it before the movie adaptation is released.
