Mine episode 3 and 4:
How can a drama containing Lee Bo-Young and Kim Seo-hyung be so boring?
All of woman characters in drama can be classified into two categories- saints and screaming shrews with only exception of Jeong Seo-hyeon played by Kim Seo-hyung. All main male characters are poor little rich boys/guys.
The constant screaming and violence by the chaebol mother-in-law, sister-in-law and nanny is jarring and excruciating painful to watch. The writer should care about their audience’s hearing capacity, it might cause some damage.
Bossam: Steal the Fate
Well, it’s quite serious sageuk equipped with evil minister and scheming concubine. I am afraid it will feature heavy politics as it is set in time period under Gwanghae-gun with minister opposing land reforms.
First two episodes were quite okay, JIW is good. I am on the fence about this show as sageuk in general are not my cup of tea but as usual I will give it two more episodes.
Dark Hole episode 2:
Well things escalated quite quickly. It went from 0 to apocalyptic zombie-land in matter of seconds. It does remind you bit of certain ongoing situation.
Dark Hole episode 1:
We have a serial killer, a monster on loose, possessed people, a washed-out shaman, mysterious dark hole and warning about dark spots on sun disrupting life on earth.
It is trying to pack as many things it can. I don’t have any hopes about it. I just want it to venture into so bad that it is good category.
Law school:
So, each episode we are going to have new law student as suspect? Are we going to have new permutations and combinations every week?
This week it was Yangratis +Joo Hwi, next week it will be Sol B+ Vice Dean?
Personally, I would like Sol A+ Eun Suk combo. I know it won’t but what if it really happened?
Sell your haunted house episode 1:
Things I liked so far:
• Jang Na-ra
• Jang Na-ra in total black outfit
• Jang Na-ra in total black outfit being badass and totally killing at exorcism business
• Last but not least – A mother and daughter bond that could potentially break your heart at end.
Taxi Driver:
I do have a problem with vigilante justice. I know the vigilante justice arises from broken system but it does not address root of the issue.
People enforcing it try to take simple route for deeply complex problem. Fixing the system is not simple thing, there is no short cut or magic wand.
The vigilante justice is just a band-aid, the system remains broken and continues to create victims.
Good question you bring up as It is actually a point in the drama. Lee Je Hoon stated; “As Kim Do Gi protects the victims and drives away the villains, he could tell a story of promoting good deeds and punishing evil, but the story makes viewers brood on if that’s right if it happens in reality and what reason could make it wrong. I think the fact that Kim Do Gi worries about this and becomes conflicted about these points makes him different from pre-existing heroes.” ….the director will make viewers think deeply about the various scenarios.”
That’s a relief! I was actually getting an uneasy feeling while watching because their brand of “justice” feels a bit too much. Like, I agree that sidekick rapist needs to pay, but dude himself seems to be not all there cognitively – it just felt bad to watch them physically punish him. Also, keeping people in assorted containers or dungeons is a big red flag in my books, and I was wondering how the drama would back off from such extremes in order to keep the audience on their side. Now that you say that the drama will question vigilantism, I’m a lot more interested in watching how this will unfold

Beanies,
Can you recommend historically accurate and entertaining k-drama? I don’t think I have watched any. I tend to watch light-hearted fusion ones. I don’t mind if it is hard core, angsty and tear jerking.
I personally really enjoyed Gaksital/Bridal Mask. I’m not sure how accurate it was, but it didn’t hold back in showing the Korean/Japanese conflict and the story is excellent, though it does take a few episodes to really hit its stride, but once it does, it really is worth it.
The closest drama to the actual history was based on the most revered king of Korea “The Great King Sejong (2008).”
Im Kkeok Jung (1996) – Joseon. (The real Hong Gil-dong)
Empress Myeongseong (2001) – Joseon.
Age of Warriors (2003) – Goryeo.
Shin Don (2005) – Goryeo.
In-su, The Queen Mother (2011) – Joseon.
Jeong Do-yeon (2014) – Goryeo, Joseon.
Tears of the Dragon (1998) – Goryeo, Joseon.
Yi San (2007) – Joseon.
Nokdu Flower (2019) – Joseon (The main couple and the Baeks are fiction).
Haechi (2019) – Joseon.
500 Years of Joseon Dynasty (1983).
Jung Hyun-min, Kim Yi-young, Jung Ha-yeon are the more historical consciousness writers around.
Love featuring marriage and divorces.
What was point of this whole show? There is no way I am tuning in for second season. (I may tune in if somebody offered me whole lot of cash but it seems very unlikely.)
That was the dumbest cliffhanger ever. The writer realizes we don’t care about those characters at all, right? Why would you end your season on that scene? LOL

Any point it had was lost when it broke TV Chosun’s ratings record in the first episode, guaranteeing they would make a second season. Even if that hadn’t happened, I think the only thing the writer had to say was men cheat no matter what you do and Korea is the best.
List of people most incompetent at their jobs in 2021 drama world so far: King of Goguryeo from River:
He killed his wife and annihilated the most loyal tribe. He is always intoxicated and easy to manipulate. He is the puppet king who let his kingdom fall into chaos. Control Bureau from Sisyphus: With target percentage as close to zero, I don’t think I have seen most incompetent government agency in 2021. Psychiatrist Jung Hye-in from Sisyphus: She treats her ex-boyfriend and CEO of company for which her father is serving on board of directors. She dates her ex-boyfriend’s best friend, drugs her said ex-boyfriend and tries to get him institutionalized.
I think she is the worst doctor in 2021 so far.

He is some hotshot scientist/engineer with very successful company and he sees dead people.

Finished cheat on me. What an unsatisfactory ending!
I hate the show for treating cheating as plot device. We never got to see cheater to get what he deserved. The most disappointing was that Yeo-Joo found about it at last minute. Did show wanted me to believe she killed her husband?
Yeo-Joo was the main draw of the show. Her journey from traumatized young lady to badass reporter to famous novel writer would have been amazing. Instead of building show around cheating they could have built it around Yeo-Joo and push and pull between her and Soo-ho.
There were many characters which show could have done without- Mi-Rae, Woo-sung, Attorney Park and Woo-Sung’s assistant. It would have been great show if they solely focused on Yeo-Joo, Soo-ho and cat and mouse game between her various law enforcement agency.
It had two great characters and a lot of potential but show ruined it, I will not recommend show to anyone.
agreed! i felt so cheated by the show (pun intended). it was my first drama that i watched seriously after a long time hiatus so i was expecting of a grand final, and so disappointed! i dont mind all the characters present, but i wished they’d focused more on yeo joo resolution and her life after the cheating revelation instead of showing mirae spendthrift and stalking activities on woosung (i mean, does they really thinks viewer would care about mirae decorating building, buying car, and 8 dollar birthday meal? i definitely dont.
Show is trying hard to make us root for Sunbae-hoobae relationship. Personally I want all these people to act like adult professionals and find love somewhere other than workplace.
Ah. I wasn’t sure who you thought the show was trying to get us to root for.
I don’t know what the usual rules are around dating in the workplace, but I agree that the way these characters are bringing their personal problems into their work is super disappointing and unprofessional.
Completed Uncanny Counter.
The show started strong and as it happens with most of the show it lost steam in later episodes due to under developed antagonist, garden variety baddies and several plot holes.
As show progress body count started going up to remind us it is a OCN show. The world and mythology remained un-clear. We know about counter and how they are chosen but what about their Yung counterpart? Are they really needed? How does an evil spirit escape?
The show wrapped up nicely but I might not tune in for second season. It was an okay watch and I would recommend it to people who are in mood for some action.
Lost me when it fridged a female character. But I guess I might finish it. I was uncomfortable with the level of violence and wasn’t entirely sure it made sense.
Violence doesn’t get better, if not it gets worse.
There was something that I was not totally happy with in the second half, and then when you mentioned in some comment how excessive the violence was, I realized it was that. It was making me feel uncomfortable.
Also when female character was killed for no reason.
It’s entertaining, but not that entertaining. At least not to me.
The last three episodes didn’t click with me, especially the 15th one, I think it was the weakest one. As it’s based on ongoing webtoon with season 2 it will have it’s second season also but I won’t probably tune in although I love Seojong.
The growth of power for the villain was done greatly but I can’t tell that about the counter and I have still lots of questions like where the healing possession of Ho Joon’s character went to when his soul entered Mun. It looks like Mun is the Messiah of counters but even Vigen was surprised about it but…
I’m disappointed with this show, tbh.
I know it was an OCN show, but the violence was excessive in my opinion, and the show had lots of plot holes: what part play Yung in all of this? Why was Mun so extraordinary? How can an evil spirit change from one body to another in demand?
The last four episodes could have been reduced to one, and the last episode… what was it all about?
I confess I mainly FF these last episodes and will not sign for a second season for sure.
It was good until episode 10 (why is it that there are so many dramas that are good until episode 10?).
I didn’t mind the violence and I hate horror movies. I didn’t mind the evil spirit doing lot of this kind of things, because he was the top final level of evilness and he could be comparable to reincarnation of Lucifer so it makes sense and Mun as a prodigy child could make snse also but it wasn’t done in the same manner as those evil spirits.
At the beginning I understood that Yung territory was one of many and that it was their part to keep working in that limited of space until Mun was capable to call it anywhere he needed. But what about other territories and why they didin’t join forces with other counters to battle the absolute evil? Finally they were the only one for entire South Korea?! That doesn’t make a sense at all. I didn’t mind the police inspector to be killed because that’s life and I somehow expected it, but how come MuTak couldn’t meet the police inspector in the afterworld?
The last two episodes were the biggest waste of potential and it will be like that all the time because tv-series are not reality shows, you can’t write a good script in a week and work on the set meanwhile as well. I thing they have those first episodes printed already and after start chasing of ppls and popularity.
Everything I loved about the drama wasn’t there in the last three weeks, so to me the drama died of success.
As for violence, don’t get me wrong. I can handle the violence used (Sam Peckinpah is one of my all time favourite directors and compared to him Quentin Tarantino is an amateur), it’s just that to me violence must have a meaning and here it didn’t.
And to add some more questions to my previous ones and yours: if an evil spirit can only get inside someone who’s already rotten (we’ve been told this all drama long) how come Shin gets inside the son of the Mayor and yet he still can be good and have a redemption arch?
The Uncanny Counter episode 11 and 12:
What an unsatisfactory ending for our brave police officer. She fought the corruption and misogyny in the police force alone for seven years. She doggedly pursued justice even if it made her pariah. She saw her fiancé disappear and survived the heartache.
I know why she was a target and why they needed to get rid of her but I just wanted her to have happy ending.
We should never forget this is an OCN drama.
It’s getting darker and darker, and a bit too violent, imo.
The thing I liked the most was Mun’s friends and they’ve disappeared :/
I like latest episode of Lovestruck in the City better than previous one mainly because all couples got fair amount of time. PJW-LEO story is bearable in small amount. I found it mopey and I just want show to get over with it.
I would have liked if Kang Geo and Oh Dong-sik formed deep friendship not just a fleeting encounter.
(In some other instances it could have been start of new love story). The bonus part would have been brief appearance of Oh Dong-sik inside this documentary.
It is becoming Record of Youth part 2. Brilliant star cast – bland, boring story.
I think I will stick to it as other two couple seems interesting and 30 minutes format is not a torture.
I really like the long-term couple, the one with characters played by Kim Min-seok and So Joo-yeon. The other two are amusing as well. However, JCW is not great in this show IMO and the plotline involving his character and JCW’s character is about as exciting as watching grass grow. It sucks that the other two couples have gotten, like, 5 minutes of screen time combined. The way this show is going, it’s just going to be monopolized by JCW and KJW’s mediocre story.
Just finished Episode 3 and it was hard even at 30 minutes. The main couple is so boring. I was hoping the focus would switch from couple to couple but that is not happening.
I still haven’t gotten around to watching episode 2 yet (and as I write that realize how indicative it is of my feelings about it), primarily because I really don’t like the FL character (that’s not a ding on KJW, just on the actual character). I was one of those beanies hoping this would be a way for JCW to get back on track after MMS and BR but have found myself fairly underwhelmed yet again. But I do wonder: am I just being too hard on him? Am I expecting to be disappointed yet again and, therefore, allowing this to become a self-fulfilling prophecy? Or was Healer really just a one-hit JCW wonder for me?
I’ll try to pick up eps 2 & 3 before Friday because I was genuinely interested in getting a glimpse of the other storylines – but I’m not sure I’ll be sticking with this one.
I think JCW is a meh actor tbh. I thought he was bad in Boring Me Quickly and I thought he was meh in Backstreet Rookie. I also didn’t like him in Healer. The only show of his that I’ve liked is Suspicious Partner, although I increasingly think I liked him in that on the strength of NJH.
Re getting a glimpse of the other storylines, I hate to disappoint, but the other two couples basically get a few minutes of screen time in total in episodes 2 and 3. It’s basically not worth watching these two episodes unless you want to be annoyed/bored by the main couple and their dumb past. What little we get of the other characters is nice — they are legitimately interesting and their acting is good, too — but 1/4 of the way in and their part in this show is just too insubstantial. I don’t know what point they serve in this show at this point.
So, basically it’s not sounding great. 🙁 In that case, I might put it on pause until it’s completely aired and just zip through to the parts of interest, depending how it rolls. What a shame.
I’ve finished 2 episodes and so far he’s just okay (you have no idea how much it hurts to say this) and Kim Min Seok lights up the screen when he’s on.
I’m staying because it’s only 30 minutes eps. I hope we get more of the other couples next episode.
The story between JCW and KJW is boring. No, it’s BORING.
I usually love KJW in anything she does, but she’s so plain here.
And JCW is… well, I thought he wouldn’t be creepy this time but this teenager obsession over a woman because of one night, it’s too much. Too much.
Well, there are people in real world who call their obsession as LOVE and go great length for it.
We have watched several dramas where male leads call their obsession as love but it’s 2020 , people.
Let’s move on.

LT is Irresistibly Indifferent and reminded of the slow march of death

Am heartbroken too, why did it have to happen just when Mo-tak regained his memories? Show didn’t even give them a chance to say goodbye T_T

We should never forget this is an OCN drama.
It’s getting darker and darker, and a bit too violent, imo.
The thing I liked the most was Mun’s friends and they’ve disappeared :/

True, that OCN, luring us with so much wholesome and then drown us with sorrow…

I like latest episode of Lovestruck in the City better than previous one mainly because all couples got fair amount of time. PJW-LEO story is bearable in small amount. I found it mopey and I just want show to get over with it.
I would have liked if Kang Geo and Oh Dong-sik formed deep friendship not just a fleeting encounter.
(In some other instances it could have been start of new love story). The bonus part would have been brief appearance of Oh Dong-sik inside this documentary.

Lovestruck in the City

The other actors seem really strong and the other characters seem really interesting. Why is this show boring us with these two?
Also, this show has more or less cemented my view that JCW is a meh actor.
