Beanie level: Noble idiot

Hey Beanies! (: Thought to share this relatively new interview for those of you who are watching Her Private Life and are liking it as much as I do. Someone has also provided a translation of the interview in English in their comments below the video. I’ll repost it here too. Enjoy! (:

[The following translation was posted by “MyFTI_1004”, who in turn credited it to “Sky8blue soompi”.]

Q: Which past drama/film of your co-star left the strongest impression?

KJW: What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim

PMY: For me it’s Mo Tae Gu.

    [Everyone laughs]

PMY: If you’re talking about strongest impression, wouldn’t it be this one? Sometimes when we are filming, and he’s supposed to be staring/glaring at someone, Park Jin Joo and I suddenly think he’s turned into Mo Tae Gu. Sorry, Oppa. You’re supposed to have a ro-co image now.

[note: ro-co is short for romantic comedy aka rom-com]

    KJW: It’s okay.

KJW: I don’t have experience doing this genre. Think you need to have a good range of expressions to act in this genre. Minyoung-ssi is very good at this. When acting with Deok Mi, she shows a wide range of different emotions and expressions. It’s awkward between our characters at the beginning of the drama. We are not so close yet, so there’s a need to maintain a distance. [note: think he said “tension” in english in the original dialogue, but I’m translating the exact chinese subtitle.]

KJW: This is very tough. When you watch her display so many expressions in just one scene, it’s hard to hold it in.

PMY: Yeah, Oppa is always laughing out loud when he’s supposed to be glaring at me.

KJW: Yes, it’s tough. I think I’ve learnt a lot. Learnt about the lingo used by the fans. At first, I didn’t understand the lingo mentioned in the script, so I went to do research to understand the lingo. It’s quite interesting. We have been filming happily.

Q: Did you all idolise any stars before?

    PMY: I liked H.O.T. when I was young. I’m feeling shy/embarassed. Saranghae H.O.T.!

KJW: I liked/followed sports. I was also a big fan of Deux.

    [Note: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deux_(band)%5D

PMY: (sings a line from a Deux song?)

KJW: Deux had a big influence on me.

Q: Please say something to your fans in Taiwan.

PMY: I received a lot of love for Secretary Kim. I also went to Taiwan twice to meet fans, so I feel a sense of closeness.

KJW: Me too, I know that Voice and The Guest was well-received in Taiwan. I haven’t visited Taiwan like Minyoung-ssi. Hope to continue receiving support now.

PMY: Thank you (in english)! Xie Xie (thank you in chinese)!

    KJW: Xie Xie!

Dear Beanies: I\’m scared. This wasn\’t what I thought I\’d be signing up for. #memoriesofthealhambra #ep4
How am I supposed to sleep now?! *shiver* On another note though… Can\’t Jin-woo just log out?!

    Maybe he can’t now….

You are right. I think there is no exit.

He seemed surprisingly calm when faced with the attack. I’d have thought that now that he knew it seemed possible to be actually hurt and killed in the game, he’d be more panicky >.< Instead of trying to log out, he went to call others to see if they could troubleshoot the moment! T.T

      0

I wondered the same thing – why didn’t he just log out of the game? They are really playing this out so well!!!

    3

I wish there was a way to know if he had his lenses on or not. Or maybe yeah, actual and virtual reality do clash now that he didn’t even need lenses on?

At some point in Ep 3 the blood stains disappeared and appeared randomly. I always thought ‘if they are hurt its a game’, but now am not so sure anymore.
Did he logout or did he forget? Or is he not able to logout?

The fact that the ‘dead’ user in the game came back alive the second time was too creepy. But the body disappearing the second time made no sense.
And then he is back in the hotel. is it a bug? a glitch? or is death programmed differently in the game that no one understands death in the AR world?

      1

I know right. I wonder if it’s supposed to be a character trait – Jin-woo generally seems rather unfazed by people and things. He remains calm when receiving a lashing by Hee-Joo, his ex-wife… It feels like his entire life at this point is focused on revenge and hurting his once best friend. So I wonder if that sole focus, not to mention his captivation with the world of AR in general, makes him a bit callous and disregarding of things. He seemed so focused on trying to understand the game, to the point of not being worried enough that he could be hurt by a supposedly dead character who turned up again… so much so that we didn’t even see him try to log out… 😢

      1
      1

I didn’t see him as calm as much as stunned by the eruption of emotions from his ex-wife. Certainly, he was hurt by her leaving him, so he does have emotions – but he doesn’t share them easily.
To me he seemed to be completely puzzled, trying to figure out what happened. The scene in the 6th floor apt changes everything. Now we don’t know what is real or not – and neither do the people in the show.
        Well done writers!

… Just finished watching Life\’s final episode. Not sure what to feel. 😶 Any thoughts, fellow Life Beanies?

The Pres Gu + Dr No-eul ending felt like we’d suddenly dropped into fantasy/one of those rom-com dramatic moments. I liked the ending credits though, which showed each character briefly. And in that moment, their character growth throughout the 16 episodes runs through your mind. It’s cool that each face was given a moment for you to remember, no matter how small their role was. But back to the ending… I’m not sure what to take away from all these. Hospital politics – the beginning of an era to struggle between altruism and capitalism? How are Pres Gu and Dr No-eul gonna resolve their fundamental differences in… political viewpoints/beliefs? Did they? Because I’m finding it hard to believe that they’re just so attracted to each other that they’re throwing all caution to the wind. And poor Seon-woo. While he’s finally getting his dream of being in the sea, his love is with someone else :/ I don’t know what to feel! I’m glad though that at least it seems like everyone’s getting a break. From all the politics, from work, and reaching adequately satisfactory relationship/emotional goals.

Havent watch it but I see a sc showing both of them so I guess they intend to ride that ship all the way to the end.

I thought the ending was okay. First 12 episodes were ace. I forgot which episode it was (14?), but Deputy Director Kim’s monologue was GREAT, as greedy/morally corrupt as he is. It highlighted to me Lee Dong-wook’s acting abilities compared to his peers 🙁

I wanted to love Seung-hyo/No-eul, but their ending didn’t really sell it for me like Jinwoo and the reporter did. And tbh Seung-hyo and Oh Se-hwa had waaaaaaaaaAAAAy more chemistry, ahaha.

I just think the writer tried to do too much/had too many threads going and it ended up being a little unsatisfying in some ways. Still a good drama, just not Forest of Secrets levels of greatness (when it could have been).

A slice-of-life ending, for a slice-of-life drama. I suppose it’d have been too clichéd had the Big Bad Chairman Jo just miraculously been thoroughly beaten. I agree with you, the first 12 episodes or so were great. When the focus shifted from Pres Gu to Chairman Jo though… I guess Chairman Jo just seemed too evil. Heck, he looks like a cartoon characterization of evil. It felt like the plot was winding out someplace which I wasn’t sure I’d signed up for exactly.

I thought Lee Dong-wook’s acting was pretty good compared to in Goblin. Or perhaps it was just more enjoyable to get to see a fuller range of acting as opposed to a poker faces and lots of tears, perhaps. But yes! I think you’re referring to that scene where he let out a rant when he was caught? And started attacking Seon-woo? That was really really awesome. I think I enjoyed that scene the best, in the entire drama. The emotions were so raw and real, especially from Dep. Director Kim, Seon-woo, and Jin-woo.

I liked Seung-hyo and No-eul’s chemistry, and generally Jin-woo’s and that reporter’s. But it made me wonder whether that kind of chemistry/attraction is sustainable in the long-term. I guess it felt like Jin-woo and No-eul, and even Seon-woo, were so comfortable with each other and knew each other so well. Then again, despite that level of comfort, they still kept deep emotional truths from each other and chose to open up in those aspects to the others instead. In any case, it was interesting to see how Seung-hyo and Seo-hyun (the reporter) brought out different aspects in personality of No-eul and Jin-woo.

I liked your sum-up! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts ((: Agree with you too about how it compares with FoS.

It’s quite funny how they’re having such a serious moment – it’s tense and everything as Joon-hee readies himself to “come clean” to Seung-ho about how he’s in a relationship with Jin-ah – when in the backdrop we see some child-like drawings, which seem to poke fun at them while at the same time remind us of their long-standing friendship. #PrettyNoonaEp7

…I can\’t believe there was a Season 2 just for this. I can\’t believe I spent another 16 hours just for this. I can\’t believe our Ahjumma and cranky detective got this ending. #MysteryQueen2 😶🤕💔

    what happened? spoil me!

    2
    1

xD thanks for giving me a space to rant lol. and also gather my thoughts to try and figure out why I felt disappointed.

      so…..

      1. Chief Kim. The mysterious figure who is supposed to be the Big Bad behind every Bad that occurred to Ahjumma, and Detective Crankypants’s ex-gf Seo Hyun-Soo. It turns out that he was this guy who was a father figure to Wan-Seung? :/// Like… for no reason at all??? In the scenes with the two of them, he was so warm and nice to Wan-Seung. I just don’t understand why they had to make him the bad guy. I guess it felt like they had to make up a bad guy somehow? But there wasn’t really any motivations given for why he was being mean and shady and trying to kill people.

      2. Seo Hyun-Soo. Seriously. ))): This is the girl Detective Crankypants has been missing for 17 years of his life. The girl who vanished before his eyes, supposedly kidnapped and killed by some evil Big Bad. We finally find out that she was his love, and we finally get him realizing that it was her all along, and THEN SHOW DECIDES TO KILL HER?! They didn’t even get a chance to talk! About their lost past, about their feelings, about the years they spent longing and looking for each other. Oh-so-conveniently, she gets shot and dies. So we’ll never get to address and fully comprehend how Wan-Seung’s feelings for her are like, especially when compared to his for Ahjumma. Like, is he over her? Does he not have conflicting feelings when he developed feelings for Ahjumma? How is he going to get closure now, for a second time? It was all just so cruel.

But heck, we get a time slip, and it’s like he shrugs it all off like it’s not a terribly big deal to lose her again

      3. Which leads me to this. There is then no progression/resolution for Ahjumma and Detective Crankypants’ relationship. They just…….. resume, after a time skip, after he suffers two major events – one betrayal from a trusted father figure, and this time having the love of his life killed, for sure, again, and this time, before his very eyes, with him being drugged and unable to do anything about it – they just resumed their bickering and non-acknowledgment of their feelings for each other.

      Whaaat?? I just.. can’t. ㅠ.ㅠ

      4. Other things: Wan-Seung just felt so dumbed down this season. Also his brother randomly decides at the end of the final episode to join forces with Chief Kim or something. We just got a cryptic phone call and some furious staring at the screen.

)): I just felt so let down. I was waiting for the ring to turn up, so that Wan-Seung and Seol-ok could have like some honest and clear acknowledgement to each other about just like. Him buying a ring for her, for romantic reasons. I waited through all the cases and perverts running about the streets, just to get closure here but… :/ It no give me closure.

Sigh. >.< Thanks for letting me spoiler you and release my suppressed frustration, @zgs1994

      1
      1

        Omigosh, really? Urgh!

Is Seo Hyun Soo the bakery girl?

And the non-acknowledgment of feelings is a cruel, cruel way to end this series. Like, what do *want* from us as the audience? We’ve been shipping them like crazy since the beginning and THIS is how to do fan-service? I feel so wrong and angry right now!

And the shoddy development of the mystery pisses me off even more! Like, didn’t you get a 2nd season to SOLVE that mess in the first place? How can you dupe the audiences like that AGAIN? I hope this show never gets approved for a 3rd season.

I feel like the 1st season had a very lightly Sherlock feel about it. And I only just got to know that its because this season had a different director and omg I am AMAZED at how much difference proper cinematography can make on a show. Also, the score and background music of the 1st season was so quirky and engaging while this one was just so bland and typical!

        Augh.

Thanks for spoiling me @rhapsophie ! Not many people are brave enough to do so! <3333 🙂 😀

        1

@zgs1994 well now you know not to watch the last few episodes, to not raise your blood pressure further 😅

and yes, seo hyun soo was the bakery girl >.< it was only hinted at and revealed towards the last few episodes, that she was actually seo hyun soo, just that she has a different face now.

and you're right, maybe the lack of closure on the relationship front was to keep the possibility of a SEASON 3 open 😶

I also agree with you – I preferred the soundtrack and mood of the previous season.

Black Knight #16: Just when I thought Sharon had turned over a new leaf… She goes one more level up in her craziness 😖🗡🤵 I was totally caught off-guard! I wonder what\’s gonna happen next… 💀???

She is the queen of craziness.

    1

All the pain from her unfulfilled longings is fueling her craziness… :/ Or maybe it’s pride?? Over losing to a “lowly servant girl”. She is scarily persistent though. And obsessed :/ It ain’t love at all.

      1
      1

I think pride and the longing to belong to someone, but for sure it ain’t love.

I didn’t watch ep15-16 yet, just saw some clips because I thought 16 will be the finale.
But found out it gonna be 20 so if you don’t mind telling me should I wait or watch cause after watching the end of ep16 I’m afraid(I don’t mind spoilers).

    0
    1

Hmm I think it should be quite safe to watch. The end of Ep16 was the scariest part! xD Hehe so since you got through that, the rest should be quite tame.

To give you some details, there seems to be a shift in focus to Su Ho in these 2 eps. So there’s the challenge he faces with the village conservation project (mostly to try to show that Hae-ra can pull her weight in the relationship by becoming his support instead of always him being the Black Knight), and some rather dull moments in his attempt to pin down his father’s killer. The highlights are mainly how Sharon’s prayers are working; Su Ho is starting to see things, and she takes advantage of that to try to confuse him. I think those parts were very well done (; Or shall we say… Those were the only scarier parts xD The background music felt like ghost whisperings in those moments 💦

The pacing felt a little slower than usual, but it could be just because it’s almost nearing the end. And Hae-ra is being kinda left out of things… You know… being all innocent and “protected” from the truth. Overall though, these two eps are focused on the journey of Su Ho getting to the truth of his past life.

Hope this helps you somewhat!! (:
