yes absolutely..
1. I started with Dae Jang Geum without knowing it was kdrama when it aired in indian dubbed in hindi. year 2006 -2007
2. then 2010 i found My Little Bride movie and found Kim Rae Won.
3. then first 7 drama straight of Kim Rae Won:
i. Love Story In Harvard
ii. Which star you are from
iii. Attic Cat
iv. My Love Patzzi
v. Snowman
vi. Say You love me
Oh.. why so ?
i am head over heels for this drama. in 2007 I couldn’t finish it as i had to relocate the city. so when i figured out it to be a kdrama in 2010 i search 3 months all over the net to find its subbed version.. which i finally found and watched then.
The first kdrama that I watched was Autumn In My Heart. It was the first one that I saw without subtitles, in the age of dial-up internet. And I would have to thank Won Bin for that.
I think the first kdrama that i watched is Autumn Tale. Our local tv station used to broadcast a lot of asian drama back when i was in elementary school. So the other four would be Stairway to Heaven, Full House, Dae Jang Geum, Sassy Girl Chun Hyang. I probably watched another dramas between those five but this is all i can recall. Actually i vaguely remembered watching Winter Sonata and Hotelier when it came out on tv but i don’t really remember them so i guess that doesn’t count.
Around 2006-2007 I started watching “Emperor of the sea” and “Dae Jang-geum” when It aired on Local channel dubbed in Hindi. From that time only I wanted to watch Korean dramas but that time I was in schooling days.
In 2011 I watched Perfect match/Personal taste.
Later I watched Boys over flowers, Playful kiss, My little bride and many more which I don’t remember now.
I’m glad I found my interest in Korean dramas and movies. Over the years I started watching Taiwanese, Japanese, Chinese and Philippines (Lakorn) dramas too. ^_^
1. Was trawling through Netflix for a tv show that wasn’t five seasons long, and came across Oh My Ghostess. I was tickled by the premise, and fell in love with Kim Seul Gi and Park Bo Young. I was also intrigued by the lore around ghosts and the afterlife. All the drama tropes were unknown to me then. I was perplexed by the grabbyness of m/f interactions.
2. Followed this with Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, which was such a mixed bag but more PBY + gratuitous violence + Ji Soo + PHS kept me on-board until the end. I was glad to find some polyamorous fanfic afterwards to make up for the queerbaiting in that one.
3. Discovered Viki and watched Suspicious Partner, which introduced me to Ji Chang Wook. Had more mixed feelings about this one but, as with most shows that keep me to the end, the sweetness of the leads had me hooked.
4. Healer. NUFF SAID.
5. While You Were Sleeping. I think I skipped through large amounts of this. I encountered Second Lead Syndrome for the first time. I began to understand the bingo card of kdrama tropes. I watched my first Lee Jong-suk drama, though not my last, and couldn’t warm to him at all.
I think those were my first five. 1-4 are definitely right.
1. My love from another star
2. You’re beautiful
3. Heartstrings
4. Playful kiss
5. To the beautiful you
I don’t remember when my addiction started because I watched completed dramas for half an year until ‘my lovely girl’ and kept following the dramas on that time slot. So 2015 would have to be the drama addiction year since I started live watching a lot of shows.
Absolutely! I began watching in Sept 2016. Starting with a supercut of Sung Joon and Shin Hye Sun’s scenes from Five Enough, which sucked me in enough to make me fall down the kdrama rabbit hole. After this, I confessed to a friend that I’d gotten into kdramas and she recommended my first two dramas to me. Since then, I’ve been hooked.
1) Arang and the Magistrate
2) Coffee Prince
3) The Producers
4) Witch’s Romance
5) Chief Kim (the first drama I watched as it aired)
Jan 2015 was when I got into Kdrama.
I know my first 18 dramas but I don’t know the order except for the first two haha
#1- Pinnochio
#2- BOF
And then I can’t remember the next ones in order because I only started dating when I watched dramas in my master doc in 2016, but You From Another Star, Answer Me 1997, Coffee Prince, You’re Beautiful and Healer were probably next.
November 2016
1. The Scholar Who Walks the Night
2. Master’s Sun
3. My Love From Another Star
4. Shopping King Louis
5. Empress Ki
Haven’t stopped since!
I was first exposed to Jdramas in middle school and in high school a classmate was a kpop and a kdrama fan. She recommended me my first two Kdramas and the rest is history.
1. Personal Taste
2. To The Beautiful You
3. Playful Kiss
4. Dream High
5. You’re Beautiful or Reply 1997 i don’t remember
My addiction started in 2013 with That Winter The Wind Blows.
hey my fellow beanies,
I\’ve been out of the drama world for past few days and I want myself back in. Can someone please suggest some good dramas (any genre) some other dramas not suggested here in db.
The Great Seducer (romance) is about to air on Monday. It looks like a Korean version of Cruel Intentions, but I think they are touting it as a Dangerous Liaisons for high school. I also think Cruel Intentions was a remake of that as well though.
Live (slice of life/human/Misaeng-ish) looks all sorts of good. It just aired but it doesn’t look like anyone is broadcasting it online yet.
Children of a Lesser God (creepy/quirky/Sherlocky) is also great, but it also isn’t covered online yet.
Grand Prince (sageuk romance) is pretty good as well. You can watch this one live on TV Chosun or on Viki.
My Ajusshi (romantic comedy/slice of life) is about to air in a week. This one is pretty high on my radar. It looks great and funny (but not a comedy).
aha! I actually just googled The Great Seducer and it HAD been giving me “Cruel Intentions” vibes (ah, the 90s…) ~!
I’m not sure how I feel about the show though… Reese Witherspoon was “annoyingly” gullible & innocent in the movie and kdramas just have a way of making innocence = “born yesterday with no internet or otherworldy access to information + perpetual deer-caught-in-the-headlight looks”…
Just saw the first episode today and I like it. They have all the same types of characters from Cruel intentions including the amazingly gullible and innocent Selma Blair character which I completely forgot about.
I was okay with all the characters of Cruel Intentions because I knew someone who was like each character.
Lmao! Why is this the universal K-drama to start all K-dram obsessions? It wasn’t even that good and yet, it still remains to this date one of my k-drama cracks. I don’t know why this was so freaking addictive the way it was!
