Catching up on Greasy Melo and this conversation made me so sad for Chil Sung. Of course he’ll save you both 😭

He would save everyone, but then his new brother, friend/SIL and mother will take care of him right back, and that gives me warm fuzzies.

Ep 10 of Mistress and I just realised they\’re finally wearing the outfits from that night! I\’m so excited to see how this gets wrapped up

Mistress is a great show and very good mystery but oh my god if you think about it too much its ridiculous. These people are just chilling at crime scenes the day after a murder and breaking into peoples houses like its not big deal. I don\’t even know how I would begin to break into someones house

2
4

The breaking into people’s houses bothered me too. Don’t they have police posted atleast on the first day? Also these people went in and found evidence! I mean, what police does such a sloppy job?

    1
    1

Yeah exactly and it’s always so easy for them, she tried 2 passcodes and she broke into the insurance guys house. She barely knows him and he’s been lying to her so how can just guess what it is

      1
      1

Maybe she saw him punching it in sometime or maybe she could see his fingerprints on the keypad LOL! these ladies sleuthing skills rival the actual detectives, I tell you!

        1
        1

LOL that’s a good point, its like they all wanted to be detectives when they were younger and were just waiting for some murders to go down so they could put their skills to use

          1
          0

For a show with only 12 episodes, Mistress has so many plot twists!

Who would have thought an insurance investigation reveal would shock me so much

Do you define your favourite drama as the one with the most satisfying ending or the one with the most scenes that you rewatch?

Forgot to ask: what about you?

      1

*writing again because I reconsidered my answer*

Neither? I don’t rewatch dramas – I rehear soundtracks. So City Hunter, Faith, Hawang – I’ve watched scenes over and over again because soundtrack.
And yes, the ending should be satisfying or it’ll ruin the fun.

But mostly what makes a drama one of my favs is the whole thing? ^^; Signal, Solomon’s Perjury, Misaeng, Buamdong, GG 1979 must be the only dramas in which I have not skipped even a second. There’s also City Hunter, but I won’t put it in my list of all time favs. 10/10.

Other favs: Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, The Princess’ Man, Rebel & a few others.

LOL I gave you names but I’m still trying to figure out the common underlying theme.

      6
      1

Ooh good answer, I totally relate to the soundtrack bit. For me I love listening to soundtracks like Marriage, Not Dating and Weightlifting Fairy which I both loved and I love FOS and Misaeng but they’re not shows I really rewatch. But then there are shows like Tomorrow With You and Age of Youth 2 or even something like Sassy Go Go or Gumiho which as a whole weren’t amazing but I love rewatching certain scenes

        3
        0

For me-its the latter. I love R97 and 88 because they were amazing stories throughout. Also IRY- SIG and PBG’S acting was phenomenal.
There is BTIOFL- which is one of my favorites but I can’t watch it again because of one episode. Same goes for JBL and FOS- I liked them but probably won’t watch them again.

    4
    1

Yeah I definitely feel that way too, there are certain dramas I love as a whole but there aren’t particular scenes that I rewatch

      1
      0

For me its the drama which has most relatable story where i need not to scratch my head as why, what and how things are happening. But rather i’d go with the flow as i am trusting the story, screenplay and characters with their decisions.

second most important part is i haven’t FFed even a single second cause it kept me on edge all the while watching.

third.. i need to have the whole story satisfying and not just the ending otherwise just happy ending will not be memorable for me. And even if ending in not upto the mark but story is then its there on top for me.
But again I can’t watch them even second time cause they have that impact on me and i dont want to ruin it by rewatching it.

These are the conditions for my Top most fav dramas, which are Dae Jang Geum, 2 Weeks, Shark.

Apart from this there are others which were entertaining enough even not following all above criteria still i loved them and can rewatch them n number of times which are APAD, Healer, Playful Kiss, Iljimae etc.

    4
    1

Woahhh I haven’t seen Dae Jang Geum, 2 Weeks or Shark! But I’m very interested now cause I definitely feel the same way, I can’t be satisifed with a “happy ending” just for the sake of a “happy ending” and feel the same way about FF’d. I just feel conflicted cause there are some shows with scenes I love rewatching but the ending is bananas i.e. Tomorrow With You or Misty

      1
      1

if you haven’t watched DJG or 2Weeks then you must give them a try. Both are exceptionally great dramas.

Regarding rewatching… i do rewatch few dramas but from my fav episodes (like after confession or one critical suspense revealation). i hv watched Healer 3 times, PK 5 times, Iljimae 2 times, APAD 2 times.

And there is one more Which star you are from 4 timee cause it was Kim Rae Won’s drama and i was head over heels for him then.

        2
        0

Neither. Story of a Man is one of my top three. I was hurt by the ending (but eventually I can accept it) and I still don’t have the gut to rewatch it.
I define my favorite drama as the one with the most satisfying story/plot told by interesting characters. I have to understand the characters to enjoy a drama, therefore most of them are characters that I can relate to or share similar values with me.

    1

Ooh good point, I actually think Bae Doona is the reason I love FOS because she seems like a real human being who is actually relatable with motivations and actions I can actualy understand. I’m interested to check out Story of a Man now

      3
      3

I’m rewatching FoS and I realized just how much I loved Bae Donna. There was something just natural with the way she played Han Yeo Jin. Like she’s fleshed the character and when the curtains closed, the character lived in her own universe. It wasn’t because of her moral justice but the little things like her doodling, her conversations with her colleagues, the way she’d tilt her head… I can’t explain it. Whatever the case is, I’m a fan.

I fell in LOVE with Doona Bae.

        1
        0

It’s neither for me. I can’t give a clear criteria for what makes a drama one of my all time favorites. It’s the same with books for me, it’s something I find engrossing…I guess. Whether the story is fast-paced and thrilling or slow and fulfilling, it’s the story I just end up falling in love with. There are dramas that had me looking forward to every week while it aired but I can’t name as my all time favorites like BTIMFL, APAD and WKBJ. I do love these dramas but they’re not my all time favorites.
There are brilliant dramas on my list like Age of Youth, FoS, Dear my Friends, Reply 1988, It’s okay it’s love, Prison Playbook and then flawed ones like Healer and Master’s Sun. Then there’s Radiant Office, Buamdong Revenge club. There seems to be pattern here but I can’t figure it out☺️
But I have noticed that lately, Slice of life dramas do make the best impressions on me. I enjoy other genres but I’d call Slice of life my current favorite.

    3
    1

Yes I definitely gravitate towards slice of life, I think it’s the relatable characters that draw me in. I have dramas I love that I don’t rewatch and then drama scenes I rewatch but I can’t tell if that means I love them

The only one I haven’t seen is Witch’s Court and now I’m definitely checking it out cause I agree 100% with everything else. I’m curious though, do you every rewatch specific scenes? I don’t rewatch whole dramas but their are certain scenes in dramas which I like to rewatch

    1

    LOL

    1
    0

Neither? I gauge my favorites by how engaged I am watching and how hungry I am to watch the next episode. I’m not really a rewatcher so there are only 3 dramas I’ve seen more than once. I also don’t go rewatch scenes on YouTube or anything.

Hmmm, I think I look at the overall show, but also what I felt during it. I think Liar Game is one of my faves because it is just so well-done and well-acted, but I also consider Oh My Venus one of my favorite dramas, but that’s because it makes me feel happy. The drama itself is just okay and def has it’s flaws. I have an emotional attachment to Boys Over Flowers, which is GOD AWFUL, but it’s the drama that started it all for me so I have a soft spot for it. My Name is Kim Sam-Soon is my fave drama of all time because I love the story and the journey of Sam-Soon. It’s well-done and gets me in the feels.

    1
    1

Oh I feel the same way about Oh My Venus, overall as a drama it’s okay but it has so many great scenes I love to rewatch

I’m really enjoying Little Cabin in the Forest, I actually turned off Greasy Melo to go back to watching it. I don’t even get why I like it, literally nothing happens in it!

7

That’s why I gave it up in the middle of episode 1 – I love Ji Sub, but I could not stop wishing there would be bears, or feral raccoons, or aggressive Canadian geese. SOMETHING to liven it up! Preferably nibbling on Shin Hye (I’m not a fan). I have all episodes, I am waiting until there is literally nothing else to watch.

What kind of show are you in the mood for?

    1
    1

nothing heavy, I watched Rich Man, Poor Woman and I’m in the mood for a classic rom com

      3
      2

i would say Ouroboros but since u said nothing heavy, then it shall be From Five to Nine, or We Married as a Job.

but maybe u have watched them all, haha

How about a KimuTaku drama? They’re the definition of classic rom com. ^^

    1

I haven’t seen either of those, I look them up thanks!

Ok! Dear Sister is very sweet, and has an absolutely adorable male lead, and the friendship between the sisters is quirky – it is a little bit weird at first, but it’s wonderful.

Galileo’s a little darker, the lead is a genius math prof, and he solves crimes. He’s very nice, I really like him. And his relationship with his partner is splendid.

        2
        2

Oh okay cool! I was worried from the plot description that Dear Sister would be kind of dark but a little quirky sounds perfect, plus only 10 eps I’ll give it a try!

          1
          1

At first you think it’ll go down that route, but it turns out ok. 🙂 It’s really sweet, and centered around friendship and love.

            1
            0

Galileo +1! Romance is not the focus though, if thats what you’re looking for.

          2
          1

Yeah, it’s not a romance. But the chemistry between him and his partner is sweet! Friendship chemistry. 😂

Old school dramas used to give second leads so much opportunity, nowadays they don\’t stand a fighting chance (minus APAD, sorry Min Ho #imstillbitter…)

The Japanese version of Rich Man, Poor Woman makes soooo much more sense than the Korean version

7
4

Because Oguri Shun will make everything make sense. 😂😍

    5
    1

I knowwww!! That man has the type of charisma that’s really hard to emulate. And as much as I love mama suho because EXO, he was the worst choice to replace Oguri Shun in the Korean version. First off, everyone in the Korean version looks way too young to be in this drama! I just cringed my way through ep 1 it was just so bad. And secondly, Suho just doesn’t have the same energy/charisma/presence that Oguri Shun did and I cannot take him seriously in this! I’m obviously not going to watch the drama beyond the first episode

      1
      1

i’m not even trying the korean version due to the failed casting. i have nothing against idol actors obviously, but the original had my favo jap actor, so i would need way more experienced actors to get me interested in the remake u see…

        1
        1

Yes same. I just hate that they aged down or made the drama look fluffy which wasn’t the case for the original. The Japanese actors all looked mature enough to be running a business. I just cant take their younger Korean counterparts seriously. So dropped.

          1

I\’m 99% sure Jun Ho is the lead but I\’m all in for suspenders right now! It seems I\’ve learned nothing from APAD #teamsuspenders
