Day 19: Drama with Squad Goals: Rebel: Thief Who Stole The People
I’d like to be part of this great cadre of people, of this little Robin Hood-esque and incredibly close-knit community, if possible as Mori’s or Gil-Hyun’s wife. *winks mischievously*
“These Hong Chum Ji that lived quietly showed themselves whenever the people cried for help.”
“All of us here, during that long period of time, have never parted each other. That is incredible.”
“If someone were to hurt one of us, we would not be able to refrain from getting back at them.”

17. Drama That Deserves a S2: The King Loves
I’d like to see Won gradually falling in love with Princess Dan and going on double dates with Rin and San. I’m completely traumatized by the ending.
Wow, in November, the first volume of The Untamed will be published in my language. The drama is indeed popular in the whole wide world, including my little country. 400 pages/volume. I’ve read parts of the English translation and the erotic scenes are not my cup of tea. It can be still enjoyable if I just skip these parts of the novel?
#30DaysDramaChallenge
16. Worst Drama Villain: Grand Prince Suyang (The Princess’ Man)
I can feel only pure hatred towards him. He would stop at nothing to get the throne he’s coveted for so long. He eliminated whole families just because they happened to stand in his way, including his own relatives.
#30DaysDramaChallenge
14. Underrated Drama: Triangle
This drama bordered on makjang about three bothers who were orphaned and separated at a young age and lived apart without knowing about the whereabouts of each other for more than 20 years. It is set in a former mining town which is now famous for its casinos. The big baddie is the owner of the casino conglomerate.
This story was like a folk tale in which the hero, an earnest but poor young man from the country, sets off down the road to make his fortune and eventually, thanks to his street smarts and through important connections wins the Princess\’ affections.
Our hero is the misunderstood street gangster middle brother, played by Jaejoong, who fights with his younger brother, played by Siwan, as he is the adopted son of the casino conglomerate\’s owner but he\’s still lonely and is struggling mentally.
The oldest brother is a cynical and world-weary detective who misses their brothers badly. After each episode, I was agog with excitement to see how they will find out that the three of them are actually siblings and how they will react to this shocking revelation. The two youngest brother hadn\’t grown very fond of each other, to say the least. They showered each other with a lot of smirks, threats and punches.
For a good minute, I confused “Triangle” with “Manhole”, especially when I saw Baek Jin Hee and was made EVEN MORE confused 😅😅😅 But I realize my mix up now hahahahaha

12. Drama that you can watch over and over
The Untamed, Chuugakusei Nikki, Kim Soo Ro, Mirror of the Witch, Rebel:Thief Who Stole the People, Triangle, Black, Prosecutor Princess, Heartless City, Memories of the Alhambra. These dramas are the ones I’m able to watch over and over again and still give me feelings just in the same way as the first time.
I loved them so much!
It was so strange watching Chasung playing a bad guy… he just couldn’t be that bad. I refused to believe it from minute one.
*clearly showing her 2pm bias*
I couldn’t agree more. The lead couple and the plot were a complete disaster. For me, this secondary couple saved the drama. I was always waiting patiently for their scenes. I was wondering whether they got together or not.
#30DaysDramaChallenge
8. Worst NOTP:
Chae Kyung & Lee Yeok (Queen for Seven Days): people were living under tyrannical rule, ML as Grand Prince had responsibilities for his subjects and the FL was so self-centred in this situation that she wanted her lover to abdicate all responsibility for the people just to retreat somewhere in the countryside to live happily ever after. She just lived in her own bubble. I shipped the Prince with Myung Hye who was interested in politics and actively supported him.
Hae Won & Eun Seop (When the Weather is Nice): one more self-centred FL I disliked. She comes and goes in the sensitive ML\’s life as she pleases abusing his feelings.
Cha Ji An & Lee Hyun (I Remember You): I think there was no chemistry between them at all. ML was sophisticated and highly educated and a bit arrogant, FL was plain and boring, I don\’t know what he saw in her. They got together because of the childhood connection, of course.
Eun Bo & Lee Kyung (Selection: War Between Women): the King was a lovesick puppy with the typical cliche of having met the FL once when they were children and falling in love for a lifetime. He adamantly chases her around during the Queen Selection and for some reason, she falls in love with him even though he does nothing other than insist she is the dead Queen for half of the drama. Their lovey-dovey scenes were abundant in the second half of the show and outweighed the strong thread of Enlightenment which was the central premise of the drama beside the queen selection.
I’d appreciate a top 10 list from you, @sicarius and makesz.
Your opinions might differ from mine but I love knowing and engaging in different choices and views. As far as I know scent of a woman is your favorite which I still have to watch.
Yes, SoaW is always among my top 5: Scent of a Woman, Wild Romance, Lookout, Accidental Couple, Deserving of the Name.
Some of my other favorites which obviously tend to shift as the years go by are My Fellow Citizens, What’s Up, Wok of Love, Jealousy Incarnate, and Chief Kim.
And Nokdu Flower is the ultimate flawless sageuk which I will sadly never be able to rewatch. It was perfect, but too real to go through again.
I have to note that my most favorites are shows that I am able to rewatch many many times and enjoy them the same or more than the first time. So although I have loved Hyena for example, I’m not going to name it among my favorites until I have had the urge to rewatch it many times and enjoyed it the same.
My top 10: The Untamed, Chuugakusei Nikki, Kim Soo Ro, Mirror of the Witch, Rebel:Thief Who Stole the People, Triangle, Black, Prosecutor Princess, Heartless City, Memories of the Alhambra. These dramas are the ones I’m able to watch again and again and still give me feelings just in the same way as before.
Woah I totally appreciate hearing from people who tend to have a different view from the rather popular opinion. SDQ is my favorite but, also that OTP is a favorite but now that you put it this way, your opinion about that holds weight too.

7. Best OTP: not a classic one but I think the pairing of Wei Ying & Lan Zhan is easily the best OTP in the history of Asian dramas.
They were intrigued by their completely opposite characters and their matching fighting skills. The smart, lively and cheerful Wei Ying takes pleasure in provoking Lan Zhan. He is so proud that he\’s the first one who can make it happen that the widely respected, rigid, serene and prudent Lang Wangji, one of the Twin Jades of Lan says \”piss off\”. He\’s boasting about helping him break the rules. Their core values, such as helping those in need, are similar, but Wei Ying, if necessary, dares to choose an unorthodox path, unlike Lan Zhan who sticked to the rules his clan laid down until he had met Wei Ying.
Wei Ying mused on how lucky he is to have one true friend in this world who still trusts him after his beloved Big Sis died. Lan Zhan\’s hair falling loose shows how comfortable he became around Wei Ying. He always thought that he and Lan Zhan would be on opposite sides of the fence. Lan Zhan is always willing to protect Wei Ying and turn against anyone who threatens him.
And the melancholical tune of flute in the background always gives me powerful feelings. Their relationship just melts my heart. These two complement each other perfectly. No person, other than the cheeky, principled, sensitive and skilful Wei Ying himself, could have such a big effect on Lan Zhan.

6. Favourite Female Lead: Princess Hwang Ok (Kim Soo Ro)
I aspire to become half as strong as her.
I\’d like to quote @Blue (mayhemf) who gave a good description about Lan Zhan\’s character. This short piece of writing about Lan Zhan immediately reminded me of the Princess. KIM SOO RO was a drama that is named after the Male Lead and was about his journey. But, it was the kind, serene Princess who \”stood steadfast in her love that stole my heart. She was brave, principled, righteous, widely respected, graceful and beautiful. She taught me how to love without much fanfare. Heo Hwang Ok is pure love.\”
If she hadn\’t stood by his side, supported him and believed in him, the ML, who gradually became aware of this, couldn\’t have achieved his goals. At the beginning she just admired him from a distance, but after a brief separation she was reunited with him when he was at his lowest point in life and from that day on, she vowed to care for him for the rest of her life. Much of the bonding between them took place at the time. She also had her own business to run so she was independent. And she was just his Second Love which is considered as a sacrilege in dramaland! Despite this, she behaved without any trace of bitchiness towards the ML\’s first love. I realy like a good slow burn romance.
