Beanie level: Eunuch in drag

PPL in sageuks 😂

Well played, Samyang. Well played.

    That was so funny.

And so interesting to see that ramen noodles would have been wound around dowels to make them curly in Joseon 😂

Well… Find Me In Your Memory had kidnapping, noble idiocy (twice or thrice over), and a timeskip. I didn’t care much for the plot, given that I watched it at 1.5x speed (thanks, Netflix!) and fast-forwarded through most scenes.

I must admit to watching it solely because I couldn’t resist Kim Dong-wook’s sleek anchor look and those little smirks.

Apparently there’s a part of the internet that felt Eun-soo’s crush and lowkey shipped her with Shi-mok heeeeee

Now, it made me wonder if ShiMok sweater was the one EunSoo gave him in return from ruining the one he had lent her.

The sweater at the beginning of S2? That’s what I’m gonna think now!

Beanies, is anyone else kinda missing foxes and snakes this time around? I’m loving the curly hairs, weirdos, and dragon balls, but…

Beanies, given the number of screenshots I took during this episode and judging from the number of times I have rewatched this scene, I think it’s safe to say that I like him… I like him a lot.

I have about 30 minutes left on episode 16 of Tale Of The Nine-Tailed and I honestly wished they had instead let Yeon stay dead and showed everyone else go through the grieving and healing process of losing him.

I know I\’ve been saying early on that Rang\’s redemption would involve him dying, but him having to kill the most precious thing to him was enough redemption in itself, that having to sacrifice himself again after that feels a bit cheap (and so was Yeon\’s death).

Or, they could\’ve gone the route where Yeon and Ji-ah both died, got reincarnated, and found each other again (or would that be a repeat of Grim Reaper and Sunny?). Seriously though, killing off main characters is okay in certain circumstances.

I will never be over Rang’s death. But I guess him sacrificing for his brother is also part of his redemption arch (we can’t forget that as cute psycho as he was he was a psycho who killed too many people over centuries and was on Taluipa “most wanted” list). But it was heartbreaking, specially the fact that he couldn’t get to hug his foxy family.

    2
    1

Yes, Rang needed a redemption arc, but for me it was fitting for that arc to be, You’ve killed numerous people in your lifetime, now you have to kill one last being (Yeon) as the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good and finally redeem yourself. Then they could’ve put more emphasis on him having to kill Yeon (and let him stay dead).

Gosh, their family time was too short. It’s like Mystic Pop Up Bar all over again!

Felt the same! Although Lee Rang’s death was written on the wall ever since he started his redemption arc, it felt a bit cheap to have his life in exchange for Lee Yeon’s return, specially after he almost died TWICE during the drama run. My ideal ending would have been watching Lee Rang growing to trust his found family, and Jiah coming to terms with Lee Yeon’s loss and living her life. As an epilogue, I would have loved to watch Lee Yeon reincarnating and him and Jiah meeting again in a future life (that whole “his soul wont be able to reincarnate” could have been circumvented without Rang’s sacrifice, this drama is full of plot-bending anyways😂).

The ending we got didn’t feel compelling to me at all, specially because Lee Yeon came back as a full grown human but then – taking into account the last minute of the ep 16 – not? The idea of Yeon living a human life for Jiah was good, but then drama goes and makes it a fakeout, the whole thing didn’t make sense to me

    1

Right??? For me they could’ve gone with the ending two ways:
      1. Have Rang swallow the scale and die with Imoogi (though maybe he isn’t powerful enough to resist Imoogi so this would not have worked)
      2. Have Rang killing Yeon as his redemption arc, have Yeon stay dead, crew works to have him reincarnated, everyone grieves and finally heals, star-crossed lovers meet in the next life

I definitely agree that the ending was not compelling because all that agony over their sacrifices seemed cancelled out by Rang’s own sacrifice… And for the last scene, I’d rather believe that Yeon is a part-time demon hunter or something. That makes it easier to wrap my head around xD

This show played so fast and loose with its own rules, it could have kept Rang alive (and pleased us all). There could have been some deal struck with the gods, or something, right?

I think you’re right that they couldn’t have Yeon and Ji-ah both die and reincarnate – I remember people saying there were already so many Goblin echos, I think that might have been too much of a Sunny/Reaper parallel as you point out.

It wasn’t a perfect show, but sure was a lot of fun (at least, for me!).

    1
    1

Yeah it was definitely a lot of fun! The ending could’ve been better but it also could’ve been a lot worse so I’ve made my peace with it. Haha.

Yes! I was like…okay, I can live with this. But I’ll probably kind of just…ignore certain elements of it, haha!

Hi Beanies! I haven\’t been on here for quite a while, still adjusting to added responsibilities at work. Just sneaking in on my wall to catch up with the #2020RoundUp:

Day 3 – That PPL a drama feels empty without: Hmm definitely Volvo in IOTNBO because car chase scenes, Kwak Dong-yeon cameo, Moon-young and Kang-tae\’s genuine smiles while talking about flowers

Day 4 – The drama you just couldn’t finish: Was It Love and Do You Like Brahms (didn\’t have the energy after ep. 14, sorry Brahmsies!)

Day 5 – The drama you finished just for the bean: N/A because I\’m too short on time that I\’m only watching shows I really care about.

Day 6 – The drama you know you will rewatch: HOSPITAL PLAYLIST!!!

Day 7 – That OST you’re obsessed with: HOSPITAL PLAYLIST \’99 BAND VERSIONS

Day 8 – The OTP you didn’t think you’ll adore: Do-san x Dal-mi for sure! Seriously, this is my first Suzy drama and first NJH drama after Bride of the Water God. As much as I love KSH, #DoDal is ❤️

Day 9 – The drama you watched just because and ended up loving: MYSTIC POP UP BAR!!!

Day 10 – The drama beanies convinced you to watch and you can’t be grateful enough: A POEM A DAY and START-UP

Well Beanies, it seems that this new job role will be keeping me preoccupied for a while. Nine-Tailed and Start-Up\’s ending week and I don\’t even have the energy and willpower to watch them.

Sleep, I need sleep.

6
6

I know this is easier to say than to do, but remember job is just a job and when you’re home you have to disconnect and have time to yourself. So please, take care of yourself because no one else would do better than you do. And if you need rest and some extra sleeping, take it. Besides, you won’t be good at your job if you’re tired.
    Fighting!

Get your sleep and take care of yourself. Dramas and your fellow Beanies are here when you’re rested and back at it. 🙂

@eazal @carlybisek @ally-le thank you, and don’t worry, I’m prioritizing sleep (maybe too much, even) nowadays.

I think the anxiety of whether I would do well leads me to put in extra effort, but I’m trying to keep myself in check and respecting my boundaries (though it’s a challenge when I’m working from home).

#2020RoundUp Day 2 – The FL you will never forget (for better or for worse)

Let me preface this by saying that 2020 has blessed me with strong female characters:
Yoon Se-ri and Seo Dan of Crash Landing On You
Jang Ha-ri of Oh My Baby
Chae Song-hwa of Hospital Playlist
Weol-ju of Mystic Pop Up Bar
Ko Moon-young of It\’s Okay To Not Be Okay
Nam Ji-ah of Tale Of The Nine-Tailed
Kang Ah-reum of The Spies Who Loved Me

But my winner for this round is definitely Noh Ae-jung of Was It Love, just because she sticks out like a sore thumb from everyone else I\’ve watched.

#2020RoundUp Day 1 – The ML you will never forget (for better or for worse)

Nam Do-san from Start-Up

Do-san ticks off both boxes for me, mainly because this is the first time I’m live-watching a show with such a polarizing main character. He’s been called all sorts of harsh things: manipulative, liar, dumb, fool, petty, cheater, stupid, opportunist, immature, stalker… The list goes on and on lol. He’ll probably be dragged into ship wars for a long, long time and my social media timeline is going to be filled with “Ji-pyeong good, Do-san bad” posts for a while.

Despite everything, I find myself rooting for him to love himself, to find his own dream, and to succeed in his own way. (The Island of Neutrality sure is a great place to just enjoy the show and appreciate the characters)

Is he flawed? Yes.
Is the vitriol warranted? Absolutely not.

P.S. I’m adding When The Weather Is Fine to my watchlist because of all the Beanie posts!

15
9

Yay! I hope you love Weather as much as I do! 😊

    3
    1

Although I’m Dimplecentric©, I don’t understand the vitriol around the characters. The two men share many flaws and NJH was presented as the male lead from the beginning.

When the Weather is Fine is a slower more contemplative watch populated by an entire village of interesting characters (better developed side characters than in Start Up). I still miss the little sister.

    6
    1

I don’t understand it either! Start Up is nothing groundbreaking, characters and tropes are typical kdramas and while HJP is adorable in his Dimplecentric-ness the shipping war and comments are mind-bogglingly cray2. Maybe i’m being too simplistic but I still like the drama…

      2
      2

@parkchuna I’m also still enjoying it as long as I tune out from the ship wars!

@ndlessjoie I actually started watching because of KSH (and KHN), but Do-san and Dal-mi only have eyes for each other, so accepting that and wishing for Ji-pyeong’s own happiness is the key to peace xD

        1
        1

Since APAD’s writer broke my heart, I learned not to be stuck on a ship. I’ll just rewrite this one in my head if I have to so that Dimples gets a happy ending that includes a sweet supportive family.

          0
          0

Yes, it’s a typical K-drama and fun enough to entertain me.

I cannot recommend enough When the weather is fine. It’s such a delightful show to watch! So warm and heartfelt!

Regarding DoSan, I do like his character and nerd DoSan won my heart from minute one. As ML I think he’s not good written, I think (as all the characters in this show) he’s a wasted opportunity.
