I slept halfway through my 1st attempt. This was my 2nd try.

I didn’t understand the story it was trying to tell. I guess it was too much for simple me to understand. I was given advice that no character is likeable, so I went in knowing that. I did not understand the motivation of the poor family, I just see them as manipulative scammers. They were ruthless. I also did not understand the humor.

I have now watched 4 movies nominated for Best Picture in Oscars 2020…and I didn’t fully enjoy any of them 😅.

Hehe. I slept through English Patient. Didn’t even want to watch it again.😋

Yes, I did. I like it. I was speechless and had many thoughts at the same time. Hehe.

So many liked it, it feels like I’m the only one on DB who doesn’t 😅.

What thoughts did you have when you watched it rabbit?

That’s okay. That movie is not for everyone. I think someone else was not impressed either and didn’t think it’s all that.

Hmmm… can’t remember all, but something along the lines of:
            * Who had this brilliant idea of making a movie out of this?
            * Those rich people are awful, but the poor people are no saints either. Evil is everywhere!
            * They are good. Have they always been a family of scammers?
            * The party and how it ended. OMG. I understood why he snapped though.
            * The evil cycle just repeats itself.
            * The movie ending 😲😳

And I think my heart was numbed. I had the same feeling after Crash (another Oscar winner, btw. I watched it before it won the trophy)

But what evil did the rich family do? I didn’t notice them doing anything evil, unlike the poor family that was clearly evil. They weaseled their way into a rich family mansion, causing several people to be dismissed, used peaches on someone who has peach allergy and mum kicked someone down the stairs and that someone eventually died.

And I didn’t notice the evil cycle that repeat itself. I’m shocked that the poor family only got probation when its mostly their fault and some of it the housekeeper-husband pair fault (both died). Poor family should have been punished more. The ending made it feel that the cops in the movie (in the background) didn’t do investigations properly. It was weird that a boy was bludgeoned in their basement. It was weird that a homeless person suddenly barged in and no one questioned how he came inside. They just questioned how poor dad vanished. The end for poor dad is as if he’s in a prison but he’s not. And he sent morse code to his son using the lights. All I can think of was…he’s lucky they didn’t re-wire the house. Then he wouldn’t have the means to send morse code.

And rich dad died because he wanted his own car keys to send his own son to the hospital. Rich or poor none of them thought of calling the cops or an ambulance.

            This movie is about inequality
and socioeconomic class divide. Rich people had their noses and a** up in the air. Which ticked poor dad and made him snapped at the end. Their evilness is in their ignorance higher than thou attitudes and disregard of other human lives but their own. They were aloof and unconcerned up to the point when one of their own was hurt. You were right. Rich dad could have called for an ambulance to get everyone who’s hurt to hospital. But instead, he asked for car key and only cared for his wife.

Evil cycle -> poor son wanted to be rich and did the same thing those rich people do. Of course, his dream is impossible, but that made it even more disturbing and sad.

I think this article may have explained it better than I did. 😅

Thank you for the link rabbit. It shed some light on the story 🦠.

Rich family didn’t know the 4 outsiders were actually family members, right? Looking at it, both dads were taking care of their own families. Poor dad trying to press his daughter’s wound, rich dad concerned his young son fainted or had a seizure.

No matter which class they were in, rich or poor…they cared about themselves. I noticed that no one was apologetic, no one had compassion and no one had warmth.

You got the point then. πŸ™‚

As a human being, if you see someone was hurt, you’d try to help. Or at least call 911. Something. Those rich were just standing there. No one did anything. Rich dad is not the only one who has a car! And rich dad… these are not people he doesn’t know. These people work for him. A fainted boy is not nearly as critical as a girl whose throat was slit.

No one was apologetic because sadly, that’s how society has become. You think only of yourself. As long as it’s for your own benefit, anything goes.
