Beanie level: Eunuch in drag

The first ep of My Liberation Notes was definitely depressing. But the conversation they had towards the end about neighborhood kids made me laugh.

I only ever lived in big cities so I don’t know anything about the countryside or small towns. But I wish those places won’t slowly dying off. Work from home should be a more solid thing so people can decide where they want to live. & if you want to live in a city & go into work, that should be a choice too.

I had no interest in watching Business Proposal at all. But I decided to check it out because of the post on here; & it really just confirms that me & alot of people here just go together.

The show is so dumb, but in a good way. The fake drama scene where the guy got slapped by the pork cutlet 😂😂😂. And the absurd chase scene at their office.

Love! I LOL’d at his big shawl collar sweater that looks like it’s made out of a dinosaur. I’m sure it’s something very fancy like Missoni but it’s very funny looking.

Come relish in the absurdity! I’m loving it!

I love how they watch Run On in Thirty-nine. I was just recently re-watching it myself, still good.

Confused how the leads in Forecasting love already have feelings for each by the 4th ep. Feel like there wasn’t any real buildup to that.

I wonder if Koreans in real life care so much if someone’s in a relationship or not. I couldn’t care at all, besides me acknowledging it exist. Especially if it’s a coworkers relationship.

Me getting ready to watch Love And Leashes. Even if it’s not good, I just hope it scratches the depravity in the dark reaches of my soul 😭😭

The movie I watched with my husband to celebrate Valentine’s Day was this! We thought it was cute, but sent a good message about acceptance. He also throughly it was infinitely better than Seobok. 😂

I had no interest in watching All Of Us Are dead because but I\’m burned out on Zombies at this point. But like alot of times, this site convinced me to at least check it out 😂. I liked it, thought it was pretty good. Thought they did a good job picking unknowns for it. It definitely was too long though, alot of the middle episodes could of been cut.

I am definitely over zombies but I think what Kdramas do good is the emotional aspects of it. My eyes glazed over for alot of the Zombie action scenes, but I loved the character moments & interactions.

Yay, another one! I really hope the DB staff end up opening a meetup thread to comment on AOUAD! Pretty please, @DBstaff ?
I share most of your thoughts (good acting, too long, strong characters and interactions), and have some of my own – like, I agree that some action scenes were repetitive, but a couple of sequences are awesome and the directing is really strong in giving us a clear view of that massive school building and it’s interconnected parts.
Besides, I could have done without all the outside action except the funny Orange dude and Loony Police officer shenanigans, and Honjo’s dad, but a lot less of him (no offense to Jeon Baeso, he’s awesome).
Loved the teenagers having teenager concerns and reactions in the midst of all the mayhem, I think that it was very well handled. And drama does really well the bits where they learn about the zombies by trial and error, and start cooperating, and in general how they evolve into becoming a cool zombie-killing squad. Also liked it that they made clear the grief of surviving.
Another outstanding point for this drama was the humor. The jokes and visual puns (Orange dude and zombie toddlers 😂) are good and a great relief from all the bleakness.
And I liked Namra! She’s the best superhero kdrama has given us

Probably because I went to school for film & media that I think about the structure & context of things more than base enjoyment. I left the last episode of Our Beloved Summer wondering what Koreans think about the tropes in their dramas. Because we\’re about to have a \”dying parent fixing a relationship,\” \”an elder leaving (or more likely dying),\” & a \”leaving the country\” (& I swear if they lose contact I\’m throwing myself out a window) trope.

The west definitely have our tropes too. But I think the big difference is ours are more fluid. But sometimes it feels like they\’re clauses in kdrama contracts that certain things must be in them.

Tbh, I don’t care about watching a hundred dramas with the same tropes/cliches if they made them right.

I love Shopping Wang Louie and what’s the plot? a chaebol with amnesia living with a poor girl. They could’ve make Louie a tsundere and use the amnesia in a more dramatic way, but no, they made those things (and all the other cliches) cute and funny as hell.

So I wouldn’t care about ”dying parent fixing a relationship” and ”leaving the country” if they at least tried. But Ung isn’t telling YS that he wants to go; and the mom did nothing for 14 episodes and now she’s just dying? when the show is about to end?

In Coffee Prince they used the “leaving the country” trope to talk about marriage, control over your partner, and support.
And in most shows they try to make development for the child-parent relationship before killing the parent (My Daughter Seo Yeong, for example).

I think the trope I hate the most is ‘love triangles/squares’, but I love how they used that trope in shows like Ho Gu’s Love, Coffee Prince or Protect the Boss.

Same. Except for Childhood Connection I don’t hate any of their tropes. It’s the way they do it that matters.

I don’t dislike tropes, and don’t think there’s good or bad ones (except childhood connections, that’s really just lazy writing.) I love when they take a trope & use it in a creative way or just apply it naturally into the story. But alot of times it seems like they just throw them in without any thoughts just because they think they have too.

I just commented the same sentiment: I am so disappointed in the show for using these eye-roll-inducing tropes. But the show’s spiral into “nth hour shenanigans” (to quote another beanie) since Ung’s abandonment reveal is so heavy-handed in contrast to its initial charm as an understated romance with an introverted ML.
This definitely feels like a case where the writer was contractually made to include those tiresome tropes.

Subways really trying hard to convince me their food doesn\’t taste like plastic. Maybe it\’s different in Korea, fast food in other countries always better than in the US.

They hinted in Bulgasal that Si-Ho can see things when she touches people so I\’m not surprised. I don\’t think they did a very good job of it though for them to go all in the way they did but that\’s fine. But my question is how was she able to be in a relationship & get pregnant if that happens. You would think that would affect her ability to do that.

If her boyfriend was a normal human with boring past lives, it might not have been too much of a problem. I don’t know if the fact that we never saw the boyfriend means anything, but with her abilities, surely he couldn’t have been a monster.

Thing is, how could she have gotten to her age without having held her sisters’ hand(s)?

Simplest/easiest work around would be to claim that she is only now coming into her powers – with age and maturity.

So, what are the chances that the baby will be involved in yet another twist?

      1
      0

I was wondering if us not knowing the boyfriend yet is an important plot point or not. But it seems like her powers is not only to see past lives but the past of a current one too. That’s why she wanted to help the old lady with her memories. So you’d think she’d know what kind of person her boyfriend was & wouldn’t be surprised he didn’t want to help raise his kid.

I wish Dramas would stop the trope of people going to another country & completely losing contact with everyone. Ok in the 90s and early 2000s sure, even though phones existed back then. But in the modern age it seems even more ridiculous. There\’s a million people video chatting on their phones at this very moment.

The title of ep 10 of Beloved Summer is \”Hello My Soul Mate.\” & After the epilogue, I\’m just gonna assume it\’s about the two Woongs to help me feel better.

Watching Another Miss OH & while I\’m only on the 2nd ep, I don\’t like either of the male leads. I\’m not a fan of either of their motivations & actions.

One ruined someone’s business & sent him to jail because he thought he’s ex fiancee was marrying him. & even if it was true, that’s still not a good reason. & the other emotionally traumatized someone to save them from the pain of them going to jail?! Like bro what.

This is a professional pet peeve that has no importance. But in Our Beloved Summer they keep on running out of batteries, but they should of had a battery grip attached so they wouldn\’t have to worry

Again, a completely pointless observation. But I legit could not stop thinking about it 😂😂😂

The main problem I have with Korean murder thrillers is that the culprit is usually just a Chaebol, politician or both.

Caught up with the last 2 eps of Yumi Cells. While I\’m sad they broke up, I\’m not mad. Woong was frustrating as hell last few eps. I just wanted to slap him on the back of he\’s head.

Don\’t really get why Kyung is on the run. They\’re aren\’t cops, & while we know she committed crimes, there\’s absolutely no evidence. She\’s better off calling the cops on them.

I read the webcomic for Hellbound, the concept is interesting but I\’m actually looking forward to the conversation about the show at the end more than the actual show.

I didn\’t like Kim Hye-joon acting in the first half of 2nd ep of Inspector Koo. But then I realized it wasn\’t her over acting, It was actually her character.
