Beanie level: Eunuch in drag

I missed the Mad For Each Other train when it was airing. But I kept on seeing good comments about it so I gave it a try, & it is a really good short drama. Definitely should be more popular.

There’s one thing about My Name that makes no sense to me. It’s not a big deal but can’t let it go. I don’t want to post spoilers, so I’ll put it in the reply of this post.

But her father being an undercover cop makes no sense. I’m not sure how it’s done in Korea but I’m pretty sure undercovers aren’t out here having families while working. And how long was he in the gang for he’s teenage daughter to be associated with he’s criminal activities. For that he must have been under cover before she was born or since she was young.

    5
    2

That’s why everyone felt “meh” from episode 6 onwards 🙄

This is an unpopular opinion, but I just don’t think K-drama crime thrillers to be that good. Their movie crime thrillers are great, some of the best. But the TV shows are usually predictable and/or have this odd turn towards the end.

have you seen the no on the report/intel he sent to cha giho? the last ones was 512th. if he sent 1 intel per week, that’s 512 weeks, that’s almost 10 yrs.

Work Later Drink Now is a little bit more alcoholics with life issues then I expected. The tone of the show is trying really heard to convince me these people don’t have a problem.

If anyone is interested in the voice actors in Yumi Cells, here’s a behind the scenes.

I don’t think KSH career should be over cuz of this, but I don’t agree that he did nothing wrong. I read the ex full post, it’s SO MESSED Up what he did. Sites didn’t post half of it.

10

And the reason I don’t think his career should end is because I’m not a fan at all of the parasocial relationships that Korea cultivates.

    7
    2

I’d never heard of the word before, but it perfectly describes those one-sided relationships that develop into obsessions.

      1
      1

It’s a new concept I just learned about recently myself. I think it started getting more traction because of live streaming. Well that’s when I started hearing about it, from articles.

Apparently it was developed in the 50s. (Wikipedia being my source). You’re right about it becoming increasingly relevant. I was actually scanning psychological research yesterday to try to find an explanation for the outpouring of grief, but this gets it in a word.

Rather than disappointment at seonho, because I never cared deeply about him, I am disappointed for 2D1N. I am also constantly taken aback by how many celebs are so problematic but that is nothing new

      2
      1

I felt really bad when I saw he left 2D1N because I knew how it would end up affecting the show. & just a few weeks ago I just started getting into the show because of how much people on here post about it.

In response to the KSH situation, I don’t like putting too much of my private life online, but because of my careers I’ve been around & worked with celebrities. Most of the time they’re unlikable pt1

6

Pt2. And weird. & it’s really rare to meet one who is chill, I personally think. It’s just kind of the nature of the game, that’s just a career that attracts certain types of people. Obviously that’s not true for everyone, but you can see how it’s appealing to certain people. My point being is you really have to take celebraties off of these pedals & just accept whatever work that they do & that’s it. My advice to friends & family has always been that if you’re a fan of someone, it’s probably best you never meet them.

completely agree.. let fan – celeb dynamic remains as it is.. never even try to become friends as it might take a toll on ones health known their fav The Best celeb in real life..

Hi @elkwesi , can you please elaborate on “It’s just kind of the nature of the game, that’s just a career that attracts certain types of people.” I would like to expand my knowledge based on authentic information since you mentioned you had careers where you worked with ShowBiz.

Well I don’t want to stereotype all celebrities. But if you look at fame as a concept & what it brings, you can see why it attracts people with bad personalities. You just get access to so much things easily and people just throwing themselves at you saying how amazing you are. It just seems like alot of people get into entertainment with that point first, & caring about their craft second. But I have also seen cases where someone has gotten famous & it completely change them as a person. Now you can argue maybe that has always been inside them somewhere, but who knows. But personally fame scares the shit out of me & I want nothing to do with it. That’s why I try hard not to be in certain situations with certain people if it’s not work related because I don’t like the attention it brings. & if it is work, I just want to do my job & go home to play video games & watch my K-dramas.

I love your “go home to play video game”. I think that’s so natural.

Thank you for an insightful suggestion. And yes, I once went to a concert of a famous singer I really really like, I was sit almost at the front row, and I stopped liking that person ever since. He was different from the person I had imagined he would be.

I really like One The Woman’s comedy & fast pace story. But my eyes glaze over whenever the Chaebol nonsense pops up. After a few years of watching dramas, I dont feel bad about skipping parts anymore

This particular chaebol family isn’t even funny. For this comedy story, they needed to be funny.

I like Dali, but it’s too tonally up & down for me. It’s a Romantic Comedy Chaebol thriller murder mystery. I kinda just skip parts that’s not the main couple.

I’m watching the Veil & I think Netflix shows are starting to affect other networks. This is way more graphic than I would expect.

2

Maybe. I don’t know. All I can say is the car chase/action scene concluding episode two was one of the best of those that I have seen in a long time.

    4
    2

And the music at that scene!!! Exactly at that moment I realized that I am recommending my friend this show.

Yes! Totally agree. Great OST so far. After the car chase I planned to rewatch it. From beginning to end it was terrific. Like I said, one of the best car chase scenes I have seen.
I plan to watch episodes one and two again before getting to episode three.

Yes! That was great!. I often zone out during chase scenes because I’ve seen to many but Namgoong-min really sells the intensity

    i am loving that show

Something that I realized is that my taste in drama genres shrunk over the years. I used to watch all types, now I’m only interested in a few.

What surprised me about Yumi Cells is how many people dislike Woong because of his looks. I guess he doesn’t look like a typical male lead, but in the comics he grows on you & is pretty funny.

I found his styling a bit weird (perhaps it just doesn’t translate well into live action), but I’m so excited to see more of him!

I didn’t expect him to be so smitten w/ her off the bat, and that basically sold it for me lolol 😂.

I was worried for Yumi Cells because I wasn’t sure how the animation would turn out. But I think it turn out well. But I definitely can see why some ppl might not be a fan.

I’m not a fan of the animations at all, so ff those parts.

I’m not mad at you at all, somethings just don’t click. I didn’t watch the Pokémon live-action movie for years because of how much they freaked me out 😂😂

This is super random, and kinda funny, but this pic symbolizes the problem I have with Photography in drama’s. It’s obviously just a video overlay but the settings were so wild I had to go back. pt1.

And I was just thinking while watching ep 2 how odd it is that the 2nd lead who’s a portrait photographer would work as a real estate photographer for a magazine. I guess its like how people think all lawyers are the same.

    3
    1

Yes, that’s weird! They did the same thing with Go Joon’s character in Oh My Baby 😂

😂 I had the same thought watching that too. Baby photography is hard & really takes a whole skillset.

I\’ve been in a big drama slump and been thinking about re-watching shows. But I really am not a BIG re-watcher. But I do want to try going back to shows I enjoyed. It\’s funny what can be hard for you

I’ve always been a bit of a rewatcher of certain shows but just lately I’ve been rewatching some from really early on my drama watching that I don’t really remember. It’s really interesting to see how different some of them are now I understand a bit more Korean/recognise cast members/am more familiar with how kdramas work.

Rewatching is the best pastime during slump. Lately, I’ve been craving to rewatch I Have A Lover in anticipation of the new drama by the same OTP (JJH and KHJ). It was a skipping watch but satisfying – makjang done right in the most delicious way.

That’s what I do when I’m in a slump. I rewatched a lot when I was bored and had time. Watching short dramas or drama specials helped a lot too. Web dramas are nice too!

Anyone ever went through the recap master list (sorted by year) and look at past dramas? It\’s nice to remember shows you really liked, and some you didn\’t like so much.

Been watching alot of jdramas lately & I want to give a shout out to Uchi no Musume wa. A funny, heart warming show with a good friends to lovers line.

I woke up this morning randomly missing Run On. I\’m listening to the OST now, which actually isn\’t helping.

Somehow I’m missing it too. This is a pretty strange case for me, but I’m missing Mi-Joo and her pieces of advice for the ML.

I\’m watching the Japanese version of Familiar Wife & I think it\’s better than the original. They spend more time on his wife & it has a more serious tone.

2016 thru Netflix is when I started watching dramas.

Me too actually. I have a Netflix rule that the first interesting thing I see I have to watch, so I don’t spend 45 minutes looking. Read the description for Age Of Youth and it started from there.

Didnt expect to like True Beauty as much as I do, just watched it randomly. The scene on the bus where he catches her face with his hand made me choke.
