The way LDW’s character in Hell is Other People says and does all these heinous things so casually is why he is so unsettling. He might as well be talking about the weather.
Started Hotel Del Luna. I thought the first episode was fantastic but this second episode is boring me to tears. I’m gonna stick with it and, hopefully, I like the rest.
Not expecting an epic fantasy romance helps.
I watched it as a heartbreaking show on different people saying goodbye to life and loved ones, and it constantly hit very close to home. I felt sad and wistful throughout it but never bored.
OK, so i tried twice to reply and it keeps saying I’m posting an inappropriate word which I am not. But yes, I know. And I’m just impatient for the characters to fall into the groove of things. The push and pull of the second episode was not compelling.
They even sort-of flirted in the first episode *cries* I wanted her to get back with Da-in. Forget about Mo-gun, these two ladies should just date each other, or if not, spend their lives being awesome together! *cries even harder*
Lol, Ta Mi is such a huge flirt, it’s one of her best qualities. I like Mo Gun a bunch, but he’s also too young to have such a chip on his shoulder or worrying about half the things he does. Some are understandable but I wanted him to stop and smell some roses at the times.
I just want to let Mo Gun and Ta Mi know that neither of them have to be so serious. I’m pretty sure it’s only been like 3 months in show since they met lol. #WWW
Good point! First it takes them forever to get him out of the “fish tank”, and once he’s out, the break-up dance begins almost immediately. There’s almost no time in this drama when they’re just being in a relationship and having a good time together.
I think Ta-mi’s position is that she doesn’t want to be in a relationship at her age when she knows it’s not going to be serious or it’s going to end because of irreconcilable differences (like marriage). I think Morgan’s position is that he wants her to take him seriously because he’s, like, completely in love with her or something. I don’t really know.
Hahaha basically. I understood them both but also it’s only been a couple of months so they actually don’t have to be thinking so far ahead at all. Maybe if it was a year in…
Yeah, I mean there was an element of absurdity or unreality to their entire relationship. Although the relationship found its feet as they drama went on and the actors became more comfortable with their characters (especially JKY), I don’t think the drama succeeded in completely excising the sense that something was unbelievable about their relationship. I still sorta have a hard time understanding how Morgan fell in love with Ta-mi so quickly, given how defensive and intimacy-averse she was for like the first 6 episodes. I think their conflict over the future of their relationship in the last few episodes was well-executed for the most part though.
Aww Ga Kyeong’s husband smiled. He was so happy to eat her bad food and that she was embarrassed about it being bad. He has a nice smile too. Also “fake” bf Ji Hwan is amazing. #WWW
I’m currently watching Search Query: WWW and need some help choosing my next binge. So here are some options I’ve been putting off. I’ll probably watch all eventually, but which one should I launch into right after WWW?
Kill It?
The Ghost Detective?
He Is Psychometric?
The Secret Life of My Secretary?
Fiery Priest?
Sky Castle?
Angel’s Last Mission: Love?
You can help me out by selecting one, or putting them in order, or selecting a few!
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback because, as you can see, I am behind LOL.
The Secret Life of My Secretary or Sky Castle. The former is lighter than the other so whatever you’re feeling… Totally different kinds of dramas but I loved them both!
The Secret Life of My Secretary for something light and fluffy
Sky Castle for some intense fun and satire
Angel’s Last Mission for SHS’s performance and for shitposts (but you can just NOT touch this show coz nothing makes sense here or just watch clips)
Ghost Detective had a pretty solid first half and you can just skip the second part to the ending. I liked the characters and the ghost PPL. Otherwise, skip it.
I haven’t watched the other shows so I don’t know if they’re worth seeing or not.
The Secret Life of My Secretary for something fluff, fun, and heart warming.
Like everyone said, The Ghost Detective started out really good and then turned into a hot, stupid mess.
Just skip Kill It, unless you want to watch it for Jang Ki-young or Nana or some shitposting.
The Secret Life of My secretary!!!! (and might I suggest something that’s NOT on your list? My fellow citizens, which is definitely my favorite drama of the year until now.
For outrageous laughter Fiery Priest. For romance, iconic second lead and leave your brain at the door plot, Secret Life. For Jinyoung being an amazing actor, thrills and mystery, Psychometric. For dark comedy and satire, Sky Castle.
Good-bye~! <3 I sure will miss these two making out right in front of my salads but we'll see them again in the next thing! (Also, I like that show unwittingly portrayed a long engagement).
About to watch the last episode of Her Private Life and I have some thoughts.
First, I want to say there is a lot to love here. I’m so happy to see Kim Jae Wook get loved on and even pettily fought over/the source of envy. It was nice and he is great. I really love both Ryan Gold and Deok Mi. I love them independently and together and like how the show keeps their independence when they’re a couple as well. Deok Mi still has things going on and Ryan still has things going on and these are all good things.
I think the sinker that is the “traumatic childhood connection.” Something I didn’t know was that this was based on a webtoon, so I guess I can’t blame the adapter for adapting but boy oh boy, I think some things should just be left out of the rom-com genre all together and this is one. Perhaps if Writer didn’t bundle all of the sadness into the last couple episodes it might have been better. For example, I like the way WFKBJ handled their male lead’s trauma, balancing it with the rest of the show and think HPL would have benefitted from a similar approach.
Secondly, I feel everyone on their thoughts about the direction of the show. Actually, I always thought the title was a tongue-in-cheek thing for Ryan’s character. Like it was his exclamation on the life she lived and not really the focus of the show per say. Basically, I went into the show thinking this was gonna be about a guy who finds out a secret about a girl at work and gradually becomes her fan/falls in love once he sees how she balances her life. Her through his perspective. In some ways my theory was right. I was surprised to see the show focus so much on Deok Mi in the beginning (even her crushing first), so I admit the second half of the show fell within my expectations more. I think what was missing was Deok Mi’s other side, her Healer-esque character with the crazy camera during this time. I can understand since her fave, Cha Si An, pretty much lived at her work place in the second half but maybe we could have done more with that too and then no one would feel like Deok Mi took a backseat. Her wrestling with wanting to take secret pics of him while he toured the gallery might have been pretty funny.
I DO like that Ryan took time to reassure Deok Mi and her mom that he was OK after the reveals. I thought that was nice and a subtle subversion of what I usually expect where the male lead kind of blames everyone and makes everyone feel bad and only thinks about himself. This saved things a great deal for me that he decided to put things behind him. Because it was mature and satisfying. The whole relationship was because the couple talked everything out. I love communication. T_T
All in all, I’m sure I’ll like the ending but wish for more balance. Please no more childhood connection tragedies. Put Kim Jae Wook top-billing in lots of things. And Park Min Young should really be paid extra. She makes everything look good. Clothes, co-stars, crazy fan culture…give her a bonus!
