They really should have gone the Hollywood route, and she should have saved face by going to her scheduled press call today. I would have bowed to the cast and reporters, and apologized for any trouble that she caused to the film. And then I would have put on a strong face, had she done that, people would have at least given her a chance. Tsk tsk..her PR statement was not great. Deflecting blame onto her ex bf, and putting this as lovers quarrel. Sighs. This is one of the few times, where I feel like Hollywood actors have on lock is their PR statements come out asap, not wait (which only makes people more suspicious). If Kim Jung Hyun came out and apologized a few days ago, when people weren’t speculating her, this would’ve possibly died down? Shocked.
I’m surprised KJH hasn’t put out a statement yet, but I guess that is the kind of thing an agency helps draft and run by legal, etc and the conflict with his is probably why this all came out in the first place. I hated everything about the statement from SYJ’s agency but their strategy could work.
From the stuff, I’ve read online and someone in the industry that both his and SYJ’s careers aren’t looking so hot rn, and that sponsors/casting people are looking to exclude now in future projects :/ Their reputations as a result have been ruined from this fiasco. It made national headlines in the news stations too, if I were those two, I would live in an underground cave deflecting any news/sighting until next yr (it seems this is the celeb issue people are only discussing heavily).
SYJ’s agency statement woof indeed. She should’ve gone to her press call today, apologized, bowed down, and cried and apologized to Time staff/crew and KJH. It wouldn’t have appeased her off of her guilt, but at least it would’ve helped show that she is still professional. As for KJH, dude isn’t in an agency rn, he’s currently fighting w/ them rn. So I guess, Insta might be where he’ll write it. When, dunno? But he does have to do it soon, before things get way too late for him. If he has copies of doctor notes/texts/vids/etc, SYJ may never come back from this again.
All I can say is that I’m so sorry for all the wasted talent.

I don’t know how they get to 20 episodes. It can’t be as straightforward as it seems. I’m guessing they catch the killer, time jump, then the murders start up again?
Remember this? She actually said “doing this from behind is not my preference” where the word for preference can also be used for sexual taste. Not this Netflix “it’s no fun” garbage. They missed the punchline, which disconnects the nuance that Mun-yeong then starts to touch him from the front. @eazal the vincenzo comment reminded me of this scene
For a moment, I thought I was in love with Vincenzo (the show) for using the fact that he (the character) is Italian to get away with an anti-hero committing murder in a k-drama. Really thought they were breaking new ground. Alas.
Also, is it just me or does Taec’s acting look promising at the end? As if he’s discovered nuance as a form of expression.
I think it’s fair to say Taec is a culprit of “too much acting” sometimes. I agree, I thought he decent in Save Me, but I don’t think his acting looked very different from his role in say, Cinderella’s Sister. Maybe it’s because of the characters he was typecast as, but the last sequence in Vincenzo was the first time I felt like I saw different side to his acting (I quit the Game Towards Zero halfway).
I’m also thinking he may have improved, because as sweet as he is, he’s just can’t act. But it’s better. He was not bad in Save me (but that doesn’t mean he was good…). But I hope to be surprised this time. I guess I will have to say goodbye to the adorable goofy intern, but let’s see what Taec can give us here.
The CGI was awful, and what about a sniper who has a clear objective for minutes and decides to shoot when he’s with someone.
I keep thinking the baddies here are Empire Stormtroopers who are just unable to hit a target no matter how big and close it is.
Gush, I’ve been meaning to watch this since it aired. It has two of my favs TOGETHER Bae Doona & Lee El!!!!! And Seon Seok_ku is quite terrific as well & just the whole cast!
I’m fascinated with this river crossing because it’s something that we don’t have where I live. There’s a similar crossing used often in the drama Matrimonial Chaos.
It’s striking how the life out of Lovestruck gets sucked out when Jae-won and Eun-oh are in the same scene. Also, was Kyeong-jun a creep or is it romantic since it worked out?
It’s romantic partially because it worked out, partially because she actually sort of seems to have liked from him the outset? Granted, chasing after her is weird, but it doesn’t seem like he pushed things too far or made her uncomfortable at all. I put it up to putting in a lot of initiative.
And yeah, I agree re JW and EO. Eun-oh’s fun when Jae-won isn’t mentioned or in the picture. The show becomes soulless when he’s involved.
Wondering if it’s just me, but I lacked an emotional reaction to the movie? Like aside from the storytelling, I kind of hated all the characters..
I mean, I get that from a technical standpoint, the story is unique. There’s a rich set of clues to support either interpretation of the ending. But other than comprehending this, I kind of didn’t ‘get’ why this movie is so acclaimed? Did the social commentary resonate with you guys?
No…it did not resonate because I neither repress myself to this extent nor do I play with other’s emotions this way. But I think the beauty of the movie lies in the double entendre. You can either interpret it as Ben being a murderer who died rightfully or Jong Su killed an innocent albeit shitty, pathetic guy like Ben when Haemi only ran away from it all.
It’s one of those art house movies that keep the distance towards the characters, so it feels a bit cold. It’s not really as if the characters resonated with me – fortunately I live in a society that isn’t as stratified as the one in SK (at least according to media depictions)- but I get it. I felt empathy towards those lonely kids without any real perspective. I guess we can include this one in the canon of Class Resentment Movies 😉
And YAI is impeccable, as always! 💚
Loved it, loved it, loved it. For me it was the slow burn of envy/outrage in Yoo Ah-In’s character, Lee Jong-su. Nothing is certain, so we’ll never know what happened to her, but Steven Yeun’s Ben is so careless when it comes to others. He treats them like throwaways, human trash. The final scene was deeply cathartic, but also shockingly raw. It was a visual spectacular. The birds wheeling in the evening sky, the voices over the loud speakers from across the DMZ, Shin Hae-mi dancing in the dusk, all created a surreal, mysterious atmosphere that matched the puzzle of what actually took place.
The editing is good and based on how ep 2 ended, I think hwang jung-min will really put on a show. I thought some of the themes were thoughtful and his character growth might be worth watching, but I can see how it could get boring. It’s more Memory than Misaeng.
