My Lovely Journey: Episodes 5-6

by Dramaddictally

Maybe late in 2023 after returning from a tour of England and Scotland (my first visit to Britain in many years) I decided to read all of Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot novels in order.
I am in now in 1937 on my 17th HP novel slightly out of order because of library availability): DUMB WITNESS. (AC dedicated DW to her dog Peter: “To dear Peter, most faithful of friends and dearest of companions, a dog in a thousand.”
Anyway, not a Britishism, but late in DW Hercule Poirot and sidekick Captain Hastings are having a testy conversation with one of the main female characters and she says to Poirot: “Oh, go away!” …..”And take St. Leonards with you.”
Well, that reference went right over me so I had to research that comment. Mystery solved lol. Hastings and St. Leonards-on-Sea are two seaside towns next to each on the south coast of England.

And here is The Magazine in Korean: https://imgur.com/j7j001T

자수회
is @DarkCc ‘s idea. She said:
자수회 = (embroidery society)
But 자수 = confession
so it’s both embroidery society and confession guild
oppa: 오빠
Also, she told me that “Eye of Needle” in Korean is “Ear of Needle” so the last line is:
바늘의 귀는 우리의 기도를 듣습니다 means “The Ear of the Needle is listening to our Prayers”

Other magazines may follow. But not today, I think not.

Of course, it’s an international cult, so here are magazines in Danish: https://imgur.com/QXz1Uib
In French: https://imgur.com/b0GhFBJ … I got a lot of help from Cecee is through Dramaqueening there,
In English, https://imgur.com/RHpnvEN
I have explained the titles for each of them, but the main Idea is that The embroidering Bong-hwan is the God called Oppa!, and that the followers are brothers in faith who do needlework together, under the loving watchful eye of the great needle in the sky.

Here are some of the Cult Followers abroad, advocating their belief in the streets.
They bring Holy Objects like the embroideries they are working on, and the Needle Staff.

Here are some of the Cult Followers taking a break from needlework (so as to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome), they enjoy some reading and PPL: https://imgur.com/x3KjH0y

Are there other good titles for the So-young of the season 2 that should have been?
Your Ideas, and The Cult
When you have seen Flow Chart 2 with all the Books and magazines, I’d love to hear your ideas for book titles.

I saw a book at the library Tuesday and for a short moment was all jubilant:
In Danish, Embroidery is “broderi” [bʁodʌˈʁiˀ] and Brother (with a slightly old-fashioned term) is “broder” [ˈbʁoːðʌ]. And there was a book called “Broderisme” , And I was all: “It’s the So-young of my Dream Second Season!”
But alas, it was just another xenophobe complaining about Islam. [Sigh].
Still, the idea of male kinship, brotherhood, embroidery, and “-ism” combined, it was just so inspiring, so I found out that: After some of those macho books that So-young in Bong-hwan’s second-hand body had fun making, some of her fans became followers, and made a sect, a multinational sect based on ideas of brotherhood and Embroidery. They sold their magazines in the street and preached, elevating So-young to the status of a god.
That was a bit much, and was actually a wake-up call that pushed her towards a more relaxed role as herself, and without telling where she came from, she was ready to embrace more of her doubleness and reach out to the girls and women of this time.
What she is saying here is: Seriously? https://imgur.com/Ysp3awF

You're welcome bong-soo @marcusnyc20, but there's a catch. r/kdramas doesn't have dedicated spaces to discuss current dramas. But that also means members can post random reviews, fun question, quizzes etc... BUT... you have to earn a certail level first. Being a newbie, I can only post comments for now. (one was removed, because I think they suspected my links to a youtube web drama to be a spam 🙄... but in comparison to the terrible level of moderation on the other community i.e., r/KDRAMA... I found the leniency, self-regulation and politeness on r/kdramas quite reminiscent of DB 😉).

@anne18, thanks for the reddit recommendation. The use of the word ‘pleasant’ for another online kdrama discussion group was the hook to join. I was traveling last week and a bit out of touch and missed your original comment but please return when you are recharged.
A number of DB surprises and changes recently but I was pleasantly surprised today when my iPad bookmark for recent DB comments actually worked.

Yeah! How are we gonna keep convincing Kang Dong-won to keep making dramas if this is a bust? He's been gone too long.

The cast is certainly top notch but what makes it a must watch for me is the writer-and-director team. Their respective track records are second to none (Decision To Leave is definitively the #1 Korean movie in recent times in my book) and Little Women that they worked together previously is absolutely unforgettable.

Aw... that is so sweet of you @dorotka! 😊❤

Fun thing, I am on reddit these days (not the infamously censored "KDRAMA" 🙄, but the quite pleasant "kdramas" community). And when someone brought up glossy lips, I posted this screenshot that I had been keeping to appreciate Kim Sun-ah's lovely lips. I think you might appreciate 😉

I really want to take part in discussions, but the current drama scene is not doing the magical tricks like Kim Sam Soon (you might agree 😅). However, I am totally up to bumming around here 🙌🏻

I have a random squee today. Earlier this morning when I was driving I asked Siri to play "In the End" from my library. I was expecting to hear the track from Law and The City, which I've been obsessing over lately.

Instead, Siri played "In the End" from What's Wrong with Secretary Kim?, a song I used to obsess over. I hadn't made the connection that the two songs had the same title until just then. It was such a fun and unexpected moment.

The song for WWWSK is sung by Yun Ddan Ddan and is uniquely positioned in the drama as the final track of the series, overlaying the wedding scene. For a romcom, this soft and wistful love song is a highly unusual choice to end a series. But then, on reflection, even have a full blown wedding scene like that has become sadly rare, especially one so filled with love and sweetness. It's the best and most realistic wedding I've seen from any drama. The voice over by Park Seo Joon as the final lines of the series was icing and a cherry on top. Watching it again just now was definitely a squee experience.

Here are both songs:

WWWSK

Lol, John you were tough back in the day!

It has been so long but notwithstanding the FL change I recall enjoying SBS’s RETURN. I do remember our evil, bad boys MLs.
For a while it affected my ability to watch some of the bad boys in their future dramas but I eventually got over it.

The Final Final FLow Chart

There are still questions, like how will So-young of Season Identify to herself, and later to others after some years in our time has gone by? And will she fall in love again? Will she be heterosexual and if yes, what does that mean under the circumstances?
Does Bong-hwan achieve the perfect sourdough bread?
And if the two souls share both (living) bodies, how will that Bong-hwan 2020 be?

Also, As I will post about below, I found out about a whole new part of Flow Chart 2, The Potential Season 2. It think it's fun and I hope you will, too!

This is all good information, and good context so thank you for patiently laying it out. I'm old and I should have more patience for this dubbing tradition in cdramas. But to me, it's on the actor to better their voice delivery as part of their skill set -- after all, if LYN totes an acting coach with him to every drama challenge (and look at the results), others can learn too or at least make the effort.

OTH, I recently had this experience. I rewatched KUNNING PALACE, which was own-voice dubbed. I very much like the plot, it's a challenging story. But on rewatch I noticed the line delivery was flat, emotionless, as if the actors were disconnected from the story itself. Disembodied might be a better word for it. My conclusion was a) missed that first time around and b) even own-voice dubbing can fail a production. There must be a lot of technical details about own-voice dubbing that make it effective or fail to do same.

That is what I am afraid of- that this is just a cameo and indeed it would be a waste of her talents.

But by the way; You get a flash-forward as the very first thing in episode one.
He asks an interviewer if she promises he will be anonymous, and she confirms that. Then she ask something like "You were a Chef at the Blue ... [ whatever that royal thing is called], right?"
And he says "Not "a" chef. The
first. "
The interviewer is confused a bit, but the interview starts.
So that's the show's future Bong-hwan.

Tang Jun-sang's first look as L in the musical adaptation of Death Note *gasp* That faint smile got me mesmerized 😊

I didn't know he was a musical actor as well, and L is his first work on stage after a nine-year absence, and his first leading musical role.

I am not so sure Bong-hwan was happy about switching back, really ... the way he laughs when he looks in that old history book is very mixed up with crying, if you ask not just me, but actually also some of the Viki-commentors.
