Song Hye Gyo’s Hollywood debut

Hm...I don't know about this either. She's pretty, and I'm glad that she is a "natural beauty" and will represent Korea and its stars in the correct way. But acting wise, I'm not sure if she'll make hollywood turn its attention towards Korea.

I've never been wowed by her acting abilities, and what about her english?!

Song Hye Gyo and Kim Tae Hee are a couple stars who are most openly accepted as being natural beauties. That is to say, you'll always have your doubters, but their "natural beauty" status is, if not undisputed, then much-less-disputed than others. It's not too hard to believe with SHG since her first professional model pics were when she was 13 or 14 and there are lots of early pics of her floating around.

Mixed-Up Investigative Agency: Case 2

There is a relevance to the 'Toad's Sadness' sequence, albeit a small one. Like it's been mentioned, Hee-Kyung says that she's gotten a part in a production of what I think is Korea's version of Cinderella. In the folktale version, there are two main girls, one sweet and good, the other the greedy and lazy stepsister. Yong-su asks if she's gotten either part, but she chooses to be mysterious and says that she's "something very helpful and important to [the Cinderella character]."

In the folktale, various animals help Cinderella out when the stepmother demands impossible tasks. When she's told to fill a big water urn-thingie even when there's a huge crack on the bottom, the friendly talking toad offers to swim to the bottom and hold the crack closed with its body. There goes Hee-Kyung's glamorous part in the play.

I liked that they added it, though, personally. It was a good way of bringing something that happened in passing back up, and I admit I laughed. The way they set it up it seemed like a big amazing opportunity or job offer for her, was made even bigger by her mysterious airs, and then fell hilariously short - kind of like Hee-Kyung herself.

Anyway, sorry for the dissertation on Korean folktales, but I thought I'd help out. I very much enjoy your recaps, by the way. :)

It feels like Song Hye Gyo isn't like all "I WANT TO GET INTO HOLLYWOOD!" unlike most actors. She seems very relaxed about the idea

I actually think SHK is better than how most people think of her, in terms of acting skills. I saw some of her stuff, and she's not bad. The thing is she tends to try to be safe, probably to protect her image. Even I read that she decided to make 'My Girl and I' because she thought it was a safe project for a first movie. For me, that doesn't reflect a true actor. I'm glad however that now she seems to be a wee bit more daring in choosing roles, like Full House and Hwang Jin Yi, despite the fact that I thought the movie tanked. But Full House remains one of my favorite dramas to date.
