Wow I just watched the first episode of Padam Padam and this is definitely not what I expected. The (anti-) hero is volatile and slightly unhinged but in an engaging way and there were scenes which were decidedly shocking compared to to the tame dramas of these days. It’s so different. How come characters these days are all so cookie-cutter and predictable and nobody dares to do some risque choices in their dramas anymore?? Maybe I‘m watching the wrong dramas?
I think all drama-“eras” have their tropes especially regarding protagonists and antogonists, but there’s usually a few dramas every year that take a risk 🙂 Out of the ones I’ve seen this year:
Lookout took some pretty big risks regarding its protagonists’ personalities, lots of moral ambiguity and such.
Chief Kim had some fun, unhinged and different characters.
TLAHL was sort of cookie cutter in some ways, but the male lead wasn’t.
Currently airing Wise Prison Life also seems to be more out of the ordinary, but it’s only a few eps in at this point.
i liked this drama very much… it was different, quieter, esoteric… but to be honest, i liked it mainly because of Kim Bum’s scenes with his WINGS… O.M.G.
worth every minute.
