Below, the Joseon night owl, a.k.a. the nature sound heard in the background of practically every nighttime scene portrayed in a sageuk…and even in some contemporary shows (Miss Night and Day being a prominent example).
This second link here shows how tiny-tiny these little scops owls are and gives the smallest little bit of background of these birds in Korea: https://youtu.be/_mtNZ-sIEwM
I remember when you asked about this call early in the year, and I thought maybe a whippoorwill or cuckoo, but I should have thought of an owl. The northern saw whet owl has a similar of “whe, whe, whe” call, it just does not have that nice triplet pattern of the Korean one, which is obviously a kpop idol owl. How did you find out what it was? Through extensive bird call research? Impressive!
I’ve heard a lot owls at dusk when I’ve been camping, and every night we hear the hoo, hoo, hoo, of the Great Horned Owl who lives in our neighborhood, a great sound. Owls are my favorite birds, and not just because the owl of Minerva spreads its wings only at dusk, or so I’ve heard.
The thought of a K-pop idol owl has me in stitches!!!
As for how I located it, a better-bird-finding friend found it for me, and I’m greatly appreciative. I, too, didn’t consider owls, despite my own recognition that the sound was heard only at night….

Whenever someone mentions owls, I can’t help it but be reminded of how they sleep 🥹😅
